I love this taco truck. I've been going for years, so delicious. Thanks for the great food.

What's left from the beef tacos I got less than 5 min ago. They were spicy & filling & just $2. And I just ate the other radish. Yum!

Just devoured 2 beef tacos I got less than 5 min ago. They were spicy & filling & just $2. Yum! And they are super nice. Next time I am hungry or hangry in Emeryville, I will come here again.

I felt a little bit the fool the fist time I tried Tacos El Rey... Me: "I'd like a steak super burrito please." Guy behind me in line: "3 fish tacos please" Girl behind him: "2 fish tacos please" The next lady: "2 fish tacos please" So today time I came prepared: "I'd like the fish tacos please!" They were delicious. $4 each, featuring super fresh flaky fish, two nice soft corn tortillas, and served with rice, tomato, cilantro, onion, salsa, sour cream, lettuce, guacamole, and cheese. You'll find Tacos El Rey parked almost every day next to Ironworks gym near the bottom of Ashby ave. They also park briefly at 8th and Parker from 10:00am to 11:30am on Wednesdays to serve the folks that work at Bayer Berkeley and the surrounding neighborhood. Fair warning: if there's no crowd, they might up and leave before 11:30. I've more than once shown up at 11:20 to find there's no tacos for me. Oh, that carne asada burrito? It was ok, the beef was kinda dry, and the flavor was decent, but it didn't even come close to my fav Berkeley burrito (Gordo's of course!).

Meh. Very OK food. They use cheap meat, their salsa / hot sauce lacks any refinement, and their beans are overcooked. Prices are high for a truck too. Good only if you are hungry.

My and my buddy have been looking for a good burrito joint around the eville area for the past week. We tried Juan's place and los canteros taqueria. Both didn't satisfy our desires for a dirty flavorful burrito. I mean dirty in the most endearing way possible. Coming to save us was the shiny silver Tacos El Rey Taco Truck. I've tried both the carne asada and al pastor super burrito. Hands down the al pastor burrito was superior. The meat is flavored well and it has that tiny kick to it that gives it those extra points. Best of all it was only $5.50. I probably would get extra salsa on the side for 50 cents next time. The truck isn't that easy to find. It's right by the bmw dealership. Funny thing was the dudes working at the dealership would drive the couple hundred feet they would need to in their golf carts to grab some food from the truck instead of walking. Nice, I would do that same, be lazy that is.

Tacos El Rey is my favorite taco truck in town! They are super friendly, the prices are good and the food is great. What more can you want? I especially like their Carnitas, Al Pastor and Chorizo.

Quesadilla with Meat: $7.50 Al Pastor (spicy pork). Delicious. Pretty pricey but I recommend it. Yum! Loaded with guacamole & sour cream. It's greasy so watch out for grease drippings trickling down your fingers. Jalapeño, lime, radishes and a few tortilla chips on the side. Taco: $1.50 Carne Asada. Regular taco. Small portion. Not bad for the price paid. Not the best but still good for my taste. Jalapeño, lime and radishes on the side. Overall, I definitely come back again. It was my first time checking out this food truck today. Will try the burrito next time.

Lunchtime at Tacos El Rey. Delicious!

Tacos El Rey makes simply delicious tacos. They're simple--yummy meat topped with salsa, onions, and cilantro. And for vegetarians, their tacos are loaded with scrumptious stuff--guacamole, rice, beans, cheese, sour cream and more! Mmm. And I hear from Ausencio, the very friendly owner, that after staying at the climbing gym during the day, they'll be headed over to 40th Street, Emeryville near Target and Panera Bread in the evenings and during the day on the weekends. Now I can get my fix 7 days a week! Just writing this review whets my appetite. I'm going to head over there right now!

The lady asked if I wanted salsa, I said yes. She gave me what I think is a salsa verde. I had taken the tacos to go eat at home. I noticed that the tacos came with a lemon instead of a lime. The tacos all had onions, parsley and maybe some salsa on top. The radishes were dry. The lengua seemed to have the most flavor than the other two. The carnitas had a couple dry pieces of meat but with some added salsa it was better. The carne asada was fine, could have a little more flavor. This taco truck will not break your wallet.

I was immediately greeted by chef Elmy and his staff. I ordered a gyro to go as I knew my wife would want to try as well. I was expecting a gyro neatly wrapped like a burrito in foil that I could place in my bag. Instead I was presented with two heaping plates of food covered in foil. Luckily the bike I was riding had a basket. Chef Elmy told me which plate to keep on top and instructed me to be careful with the food on my ride home. "Yes sir". I got home and present the plates to my wife. She removed the foil unveiling two colorful delicious looking plates of food. We were both glowing. One was the gyro I had ordered and the other was a mix of some of the most delicious beans I have ever had along with a salad, a roasted pepper and pickled vegetables. The portions were huge, but more importantly delicious. Food like this could only be made by someone who loves feeding people which I believe Chef Elmy does. He also gave us bottles of water to keep us hydrated. The plate consisted of two wraps, chicken and kofta, with a couple of sides. We were not sure what the sides were (besides the delicious corn that was crusted and seasoned beautifully) but everything had us smacking our lips, especially the fried one. The food was intentional and made with so much love and care, something that is so rare to find nowadays. A real hidden gem and they deserve all the support! We are in search of a Baja fish taco that is satisfying since both of the places we loved either closed or stopped serving the baja style. We went to Mersea earlier for the views and to check out TI and it was uninspiring so we rambled back to the east bay and decided to try Mercado. Reviews looked good (thanks y'all, I appreciate you) and despite a few misses on the baja taco (according to some reviews) we decided to take a run at it. The man was feeling jaded after the am stop and wasn't going for the fish, I stayed neutral...no one wants their little taco loving heart broken twice in one day...ultimately, he decided to try the fish taco plate with 1 baja and one grilled. I had the poblano mole tacos w/chicken. We shared the guacamole with chips. I had cafe de olla (it is called something else here) and he had the mocktail with the ginger beer. The ordering at the counter wasn't my favorite but the spot was pretty quiet for a Friday midday and the service was still exceptional. They were attentive and responsive. I would definitely go back at the same time cuz I don't like crowds. On to the food. Dayum! Everything was good. Well seasoned, beautifully plated, and sufficient serving size. I pigged out. For real...I waddled out of that joint. Brought every drop of the leftovers home so I could have the chocolate custard (DAYUM) for dessert with the remnants of my coffee. Him: he preferred the baja style to the grilled fish. As some others have said, it can fall apart (really stuffed with goodness) but he didn't want his fixins on the side. VERDICT: he'll be back for that taco. Me: I enjoyed the mole but the chicken in chunks didn't work for me. I would have preferred it shredded. I'll try something else next time and there will be a next time. Oh, and the black beans and green rice were flavorful as well. Standing order: guacamole and chips Cafe Chocolate custard... What? No pics? Come on now. I wasn't thinking 'bout y'all when my food came. Go take your own pics.
