When visiting NJ, my brother reached out and asked if my wife and I liked Mexican food. He mentioned he found this "new" place we had to try. He made reservations for 6 of us. The venue is quite unique. It has an inside area with TV's surrounding the bar area. Then the bar area opens up to an outside area on the other side. For the warmer months, this is where you might want to be. They had quite a few craft beers on draught, specials, happy hour and a great overall menu. I had the shrimp and spinach quesadilla which I highly recommend. It was very savory, cheesy, and totally satisfying. The food and drinks here are absolutely delicious from start to finish. You start with complimentary chips and salsa. I loved the chips. They tasted home made and not greasy. The jalepeno queso dip was one of the best queso's I've tasted. The fundido appetizer is good too, but the jalepeno is over the top good and not as thick. The steak and shrimp chimichangas were perfectly seasoned and packed to the brim with tender, high quality steak. I've stopped ordering drinks at many places because I feel like they basically charge you $20 for juice but not this place. The drinks were excellent too! The margaritas were well made and didn't skimp on the alcohol. One drink had me feeling pleasantly tipsy, and I honestly would have ordered a second if I hadn't been driving home. The service was friendly and attentive, and the outdoor seating is a great bonus. Between the outstanding food, strong drinks, great service, and inviting atmosphere, I'll definitely be back soon with more people. read more

Grabbed lunch here this past week and it was the right pick at the right time. I'll keep this one short n sweet. Stuffed jalapeños were fantastic. Chorizo potatoes n cheese with this dipping sauce that should be served with all their dishes. Salsa verde and their traditional red salsa were on point. We made the 40 minute ride and it was so worth it. We got right in on a Saturday night at 6:45 PM. We started with a pineapple and passion fruit mojito. Fresh chips and salsa/salsa verde were brought over immediately too. The place was busy, with a lot of larger parties and the servers were hustling, but everything came out so quickly. We ordered the yucca fries with chipotle aioli because I had them before and needed my husband to experience them. He also insisted on getting the taquitos because he was so hungry. The yucca fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy and an amazing vehicle for the chipotle aioli. The taquitos came as an order of 3 served with lettuce, cheese, and crema on top. While they were good, the yucca fries were the star of the appetizers. For our entrees I ordered the quesabirria tacos and my husband did the steak quesadillas. I have had birria tacos at many places and I find that the key is the flavor of the consommé. This was flavorful and the perfect consistency. Some dripped down my dress and I didn't even care lol. My husbands quesadillas were huge and definitely cheese heavy. It was safe to say he was in heaven. His favorite Mexican spot closed down about five years ago and tonight was the first time since then that he told me how much he loved a new to him Mexican restaurant and declared it his new fave. We went to Tacos el Tio the other night for dinner. We only had to wait 15-20 minutes for a table, which was pretty good since it was a busy Friday night. We went to the bar first to get drinks and I had a white sangria. It was a little too sweet for me, but not bad. They gave us complimentary chips and salsa to start. We used to love Tacos el Tio in Medford but over the last six months or so I feel the restaurant has changed. Three margaritas, one chimichanga and one steak fajitas was $98.00. (without tip) That is too expensive. You have to ask for a glass of water and if you don't ask for the table, they only bring one glass. This should be a standard question from your server automatically. We requested extra cheese for the fajitas and we were charged $1.00 for the tiny plastic cup of cheese. That's ridiculous. If you like taking your food out as take out, only to find part of your order then bring it back to the restaurant only to be asked why you didn't check it before you left, this is your dive. It has prices of a 4 star restaurant and yet it's got staff belonging to a McDonald's. Especially the shift managers/supervisors and upper management. This place was great when it opened, but now it's just a trap to take as much of your money as they can, regardless of the quality of food and poor service. Taco Bell has better Mexican food and supervisor staffing. That says a lot if you've eaten at Taco Bell the last 10 years compare Taco bell to this place. Taco bell's gross. Think about how gross this place must be compared to the slop Taco Bell serves. I bet the health inspection is lower than 89% If I had been their health inspector inspecting this restaurant during business hours, I'd shut them down for the greasy floors and food scattered everywhere. It's like they don't know how to send the bus boy out with a broom to sweep up during the cleaning and resetting of tables after customers leave. It's gross, it's greasy and treaturous. I'm surprised some old person hadn't slipped on a glob of guacamole or a greasy piece of fat, all wiped off of dirty tables. I'm taking my business to On the Border or Chilli's. I was planning to have a birthday dinner here until this past experience. I bet if they paid their staff a gainful wage, the staff would have more pride in their work place. Minimum wage gets you minimum effort. Obviously. This place is a joke, really. Too expensive, poor service, poor food quality and terrible crew of supervisors and managers who can't do a supervisors job. You can't trust the staff to complete your take out orders, DON'T DO IT!! You'll be repremanded for leaving without your whole order, it's your fault that their staff can't be competent enough to complete take out orders for the customers who over paid for small portions. The mark up on this menu has to be 350% remember when you order. Full price for 1/2 portions. This place is nothing special. Nothing. But they charge you like it is. Just look at some of the simple items and think about how much they have in that 1 burrito. They make it for less than $1.50 and charge us how much?? $18.00??? gtfoh. Oh, add half a tablespoon of beans and half a tablespoon of dried up rice that's so dry it's crunchy. Ridiculous, go somewhere else. I haven't had the opportunity to dine in before, but their steak fajitas are my go-to when I have a cankering for a meal with peppers, onions, and a tasty protein. The portions of their fajitas are great, with huge chunks of roasted bell peppers and onions that are incredibly seasoned. I'm not a huge fan of the tacos here that I've tried, but it may be a consequence of taking out instead of eating them fresh from the kitchen. We wait a minimum of 5 min before they even bring us menus every time. They bring chips and never any napkins/utensils till you ask for them. We wanted to order more drinks and it took them 20 min to even circle back around to us and the only reason they did was because we managed to finally wave down another bartender. We had a nice dinner here - solid options if you are craving Mexican food! They have everything from your traditional guac and tacos, to some really interesting plates like their "mozzarella sticks" which were deep fried and served with a mild chipotle dipping sauce. We have always been big Don Pablo's fans, we were very sad to see it dissolve, however Tacos El Tio is a fine replacement to Dons. My wife and I have dined their twice. The atmosphere is casual, the service is excellent and the Food is delicious and flavorful. The only exception is the refried beans are more of a soup consistency, I prefer more beans. We don't drink so I can't comment on the bar, soda and tea tasted fine. We have had their tacos, los Nachos, salad entrees and the Trio Fajitas. All very tasty. We will be going back soon. read more

We called in at about 5:30 for takeout and were told only 30 minutes for our order! We had 4 entrees and 4 appetizers! 30 minutes was a great wait time! I've seen plenty of reviews here stating that the staff, not the food, is the problem. My boyfriend, who placed the order, wanted me to include that the girl who took our order over the phone was so so nice and very helpful! Food: My boyfriend got the chicken tinga tacos. He enjoyed them! Myself and my brother got the chicken chimichanga. The portion was HUGE! With my appetizers, I could only get through half of it. Loved the side of guac but I wish it would've came with more sides. Normally, a chimichanga comes with a side of rice and/or beans. Here, you have to pay extra for that side. However, my side of refried beans was a very large portion! Did not expect that! They were liquidy, but yummy! My dad got the shrimp chimichanga and had no complaints. He was so excited about shrimp (never seen that before) and even he struggled to get through that large of a portion! My family got the queso fundito appetizer and said it was a little strange. They didn't know what it was to begin with, so they didn't know what to expect. It did come takeout though, so we are going to blame the car ride and cold weather for it. It came as a clumped together piece of cheese and chorizo. However, he did say the flavor was delicious! Again, we blame it on the takeout. For appetizers, my boyfriend and I got the corn, steak nachos (no beans) and empanadas. Personally, I did not like the corn. My own palette is to blame, not the restaurant!
