Popular choice of grub for those broke at the office. I had $3 in my pocket and I managed to grab three crispy delicious beef tacos. The meat in the taco was juicy and it had enough fix ins to make my taste buds surrender. I can only imagine what I can get for $5. Word around the office is this place serves authentic Mexican food. Heck, I wouldn't know. All I know is they serve some bomb food here. I've had a taste of the flautas and the burrito and it was good. Had a wet burrito on my last visit and I enjoyed it immensely. You get a great selection of items for little cost. The $3.50 lunch special is a great deal! All the tacos are delicious! And the chips and salsa are very scrumpshiliumptious. I've been to this place...oh...3 times? First time I went here I didn't have any cash(this place is cold hard cash only) and I had to go next door and pay for the stupid ATM. I generally frown on places that don't take debit/credit so I was kind of annoyed by it but the food was pretty good. I wasn't really amazed by the food but I did think it was quite good and the person at the cashier is always nice and joking around having conversations with their customers. Today though, however, I felt like being a pig and I ordered the Beef flauta and Chicken enchilada special with rice and beans. I thought the beef flauta was good. It was crispy and it came with sour cream and guac. The enchilada was just ok for me because I was expecting something saucier I guess. Now the piggy in me ALSO ordered the posole. Damn, why I have not ordered this before? It's friggin good! Forget menudo(I hate menudo btw)! It has a good soup base, lots of pork, and homony(like big corn nuts?). I threw in all the extra fixins they give you(onions, cilantro, chilli peppers, and lime) and damn, it was good eating! They give you a huge bag of tortilla chips to eat with it too! Unfortunately my appetite was bigger than my stomache and I only ate half of the soup. Tacos Jaliscos is a bargain and the food is so good. I always get the 3 carne asada tacos that come with rice and beans. I either get a horchata (so good) or a agua de jamica (so so good). I love it and the place is covered in Chivas pictures and posters. Oh and for the guys it has the typical waitresses in little black skirts. read more

Best place to get LEGIT mexican food. My friend took me here, and I was blown away by the prices as well as the food. With five dollars you'll have a feast fit for the gods. Living as a college student, this place fits my budget. The food itself is delicious, I loved how authentic it was. The place is typically packed with customers and so obviously there are a lot of people who like this restaurant. I on the other hand would rather go to super antojitos in Tustin as I think that the quality of their food and especially their meat is just that much better. The meat here is not so hot if you know what I mean, the meat is flavorless and somewhat chewy and that is a big no no for me. The staff were very pleasant and the food came very quickly even though it was busy. I'd definitely return. I just went here for a second time last night and it was just as good as the last. I had the taco combo with 3 potato taco's that were all delicious. Lot's of flavor and perfect for after a night of drinking. The atmosphere is pretty standard for a more "hole in the wall" Mexican restaurant but the food is definitely above average. I suppose I can see why people would compare this place to Alberto's and Alejandro's but the truth is, this place blows 'em both out of the water. Then again, I think both places serve some of the worst Mexican food I've had so I guess it's not fair. It's really too bad I found this place after I moved out of Orange County. It's a hole in the wall so you're only going to be coming here for one reason - the food. For the quality you get at the price they charge, it's hard to beat this place. The $3.50 lunch specials are always popular. But if you venture off that part of the menu, the other offerings are just as satisfying and still easy on the pocketbook. Their chili verde is fantastic - pork was tender and the sauce was flavorful and spicy. As to the spice, it's not gringo-ized so if you're used to El Torito or other Americanized chains make sure you order some sour cream. Yum. I love good food especially CHEAP good food. I didn't care so much for their tortilla chips and salsa. It was store bough and not quite fresh. Salsa was okay. Nothing special. Their Carne Asada was abit dry and my friend struggled with it. We had 2 other dishes but both were unremarkable. However, my order, Shrimp Quesadilla was very good. I'd easily give it 4 1/2 stars. Fish tacos have none of the fluffy batter texture of baja and all of the gritty casing of overcooked gordons fish filets. salsa bar is a big plus. A former co-worker who used to live in Orange told me about this place almost three years ago, but I didn't finally go until a over a year later and I'm glad I did. Now I go to this place all the time for lunch. It's a bit of a hole-in-the-wall, but a great one. Going through the reviews I can't believe no one's made mention of the al pastor. It's the best I've ever had anywhere, hands down, no contest. I get an al pastor burrito to go everytime I go there. The one time that I can recall I've eaten in the restaurant I tried an al pastor torta but I wasn't really crazy about it because there was too much bread and mayo and not enough meat. The pastor burritos, however, are excellent. I always get them with just meat and the salsa of my choice inside, and sometimes a little cheese. No beans, no rice, or anything else to interfere with the great flavor of the pork. The mashed potato tacos are also great, albeit a tad greasy. There are a lot of other things I'd like to try here, too, and I will eventually. The prices are great, as well, it's very inexpensive, and the lady who usually works at the counter is cool and always makes sure they get my order right. Overall, in terms of great tasting food (what I've had) at a killer price, this is almost certainly the best value I've ever encountered at any Mexican food joint. read more

Its very inexspensive and super delicious! It can get pretty busy, so if you just want to get it to go I would definitely suggest calling ahead! Salsa and condiment bar is nice because I always load up on pico de gallo and limes for my tacos. I was pissed once because usually they give you free chips and salsa when you sit down, but the first time I went we asked for it because the table next to us got it and the waitress said you had to buy it. Maybe they though we were dumb white girls, but it hasn't happened again. Last time something amazing happened. I hear a crash, and our waitress is on the floor having a out-and-out first fight with the other waitress! They knocked over a table and the guys came running out from the back to pull them apart. There was swearing and hair pulling and it was a sight to see. Then she brought us our food like it was no big deal! Anyway, I like this place when I'm feeling ultra casual or kind of cash poor, but if I want something fresher tasting and a more charming atmosphere (with a couple of bucks added on), I'll go to Tacos Adobe instead. Cheap, authentic Mexican. Went here on a weeknight and they were actually really busy, and with only 2 waitresses to serve the entire restaurant. They took our order and delivered food in a timely fashion, but getting the check took a while. As for the food itself, the flavors here are strong and not watered down at all. You definitely taste the herbs and spices in the salsa, as well as the mole I ordered. Also, props for having non-watered down tamarindo and horchata. However, the quality of the food itself was only so so. The fish taco was standard and very flavorful, but the al pastor had some low quality meat, and the carnitas were super dry. The carne asada was also a bit low quality. If you're in the area, definitely stop by for some fish tacos and horchatas, but I can't really recommend the other stuff. read more

This place is just plain great. It;s the best hole in the wall Mexican food joint. There's a family feel to the place, and it's always got customers. It's always crowded and you have to wait for a table. I go for the shredded beef enchiladas. The beef marinade are second to none. That with the sour cream, make the perfect taste sensation. The prices have gone up slightly, but then so has the prices on everything else in the world. You wouldn't notice it when you're driving on the street, but that's what makes it such a hidden treasure. It's stuck behind a Taco Bell! It's exterior may blend a little bit with the shopping center that it's in, but once you sit down, you're gonna eat some food that's just out of this world. This restaurant has a HUGE variety of food on their menu. I usually get the Chile Relleno and taco combination. Rice and beans are included with it and the meal is a good portion. Pretty darn good I say. Had a soft pastor taco, crispy beef taco and a carnitas sope. All were delish! Meat was moist, tortilla (be it soft, fried or thick) was tasty. There is a salsa bar so you can add pico de gallo, lime, cilantro, salsa verde or the spiciest red. I had eaten here once before, when I still lived in SD and forgot all about it. With all the Mexican places in Orange - I have been needing a favorite so I do not have to think about where to go when I am having my cravings. Been coming here for over a year now, I take whoever visits Orange to this person because they seriously have some legit Mexican food. I may not be Mexican, but I grew up with a friend and their family always made Mexican food from home. That's what they do here in the place. The food is always freshly made, and the salsa bar is awesome too. They have so many food to choose from, you may not always want the same thing every time you come here. Three out of four were happy with their take out meal! The special of the day, Chile Colorado was piping hot and needed nothing but the corn tortillas it came with. It did come with the standard Mexican rice and refried beans. It was the best recipe I've had since it was very delicious while having a low spiciness factor to it. If you like Chile Colorado, I recommend it. The chicken mole enchiladas and chicken mole dinner were very good. The mole is just perfect in the blend of spiciness, sweetness and texture. It is a substantial sauce and they give you plenty of it. I think it may be the best mole I've ever had since it was interesting and full of long cooked flavors where everything went right, right up to the end when it is ready. Complex and superb! I would recommend asking for chicken breast vs. chicken thighs for this combo dinner. The carnitas burrito was not so great, a little dry and lacking flavor. It was mixed in with chicken which was surprising. Also the refried beans were and never are good in a burrito. Whole beans are much better. I'm puzzled by the golden colored refried beans served with one of the dinners. They did not seem to be pintos but maybe garbanzos? Perplexing. The Jamaica and horchata drinks are excellent. The largest drinks are a little unwieldy and it is nice to have an extra set of hands for take out to have a secure grasp of them so they make it home intact. My next visit, I will try the Tamarindo. I give Mexican restaurants extra credit for having these drinks for their customers since they pair well with the food. Huge menu, friendly service, large inside dining area, and nice salsa bar that is divided into hot and mild. I like that. Parking can be difficult as it it shared with other busy businesses in a small strip mall. read more
