I visited Mexican Cactus Taco Bar expecting your typical strip mall taco joint with decent tacos…read moreand some TVs to watch a World Cup match, but WOW did I underestimate what I was in for. I knew from the second we walked in, based on the list of made-in-house horchatas and agua frescas, that we were going to be in for a good meal. The menu was refreshingly unique compared to your basic street taco style setup or the usual Tex-Mex mashup of inauthentic tacos topped with shredded cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes. Our group of 3 adults, plus my 7 year old niece, shared a bowl of guacamole, which was phenomenal and came mixed with sunflower seeds and topped with crumbled cotija, alongside house-made corn tortilla chips. We also split an elote cup, which was great. My wife got a classic horchata, which was deliciously sweet (but not overly so) with a nice slight punch of cinnamon. I went with water but will definitely try an agua fresca next time. I ordered two tacos, both on house-made flour tortillas (I like corn tortillas but prefer flour when made fresh). The Pollo Azteca, with marinated grilled chicken tenderloin, mango pico, and a drizzle of crema, was phenomenal, and had more flavor than most chicken tacos I've had before. The star of my meal, however, was the Al Pastor, with adobo marinated pork tenderloin, diced pineapple, onions, and cilantro, with a slice of lime to squeeze on top. This was hands down one of the best tacos I've ever had in my life. I was floored. I also tried my wife's Carne Asada tacos, which came topped with cilantro and onions, and a slice of lime, on their house made corn tortillas. The steak was incredibly flavorful, and the corn tortillas were tender without being chewy. We shared a side of rice and beans, which was good, but not the star of the show. The rice was your typical Mexican yellow rice, and the beans were more of a soupy whole-beans style, which reminded me of my Colombian mother-in-law's recipe. The staff makes four homemade salsas, ranging from mild to pretty spicy, and I loved all of them with the exception of the mild. My niece got the kids' cheese quesadilla, which was a simple melted Oaxaca cheese between a flour tortilla, served with rice, beans, and a little side of crema. The last thing I will rave about is the service. The staff was incredibly nice from the minute we walked in, pleasant to talk to when delivering our order and asking how everything was tasting, to the moment we bussed our tables and headed for the door. I cannot wait to come back again, and I hope they stay very busy until I'm able to do so, because I want this place to be around for a very long time!

The food as a Mexican was amazing especially when you know different regions from Mexico and you know each regions have their flavors and staples. It has been a pleasure for my palate to enjoy those flavor again. We always like asking about the background and origins of the restaurants we visit and we always note and comparare details. The flavors just to reiterate.... Awesome! Atmosphere and service totally outstanding, today was our second time and the person even apologized for us not getting the same booth, we were like what??? You remember that and us? Well we are sold and we found the new place for us to invite friend and have family celebrations! Maybe I can not give a Michelin Star but for sure a "Miguelin" star! Thank you all! Jeziel, Isri, Eli, Charlie , Rolando, we do not know all the names yet but we will acknowledge every one properly and please know that little things come a long way and make a difference!!!! Addendum- for some reason my original post did not post when intended but now that I can, still going there and love it still!!! We have had family gatherings, great moments to celebrate and even when lows, we still found this place an amazing place to be. In all honesty, we feel like they are family, almost like the show Cheers... "sometimes you want to go where every body knows your name". It has been for us a great balance of consistency all around, service, the food, the drinks, even if prices went up (given the economy right now), we know it will be great! Even during these times they have never tried to cut corners or even increase prices!! We love you guys and will continue supporting our local businesses!!

The coconut doesn't over power the drink and it's not too sweet. The pink color is perfectly pink just like a Malibu sunset. The food was amazing and the service was excellent.

The tacos were soooo juicy, and bursting with flavor. The consume did not make me feel icky/greasy after the fact, which i LOVE! The only thing to note in regard to that dish is that there is a LOT of cheese, which for my personal preference, was too much, but I ate around some of it! Also, the limes were dry, so it was hard to get that yummy flavor! 9.99/10 The queso was about average, a white queso with decent flavor! 7/10 I was not a huge fan of the chips, as I loveee a salty chip. These ones were fresh, thick, and not as salty to my likely, but a fine chip indeed. 5/10 The guacamole was sooo refreshing and yummy! 7/10 The loaded french fry nachos (Papas al trompo) were SOOOO yum. They hit the spot! There is A LOT of nacho cheese, so if you don't like soggy fries, I would recommended choosing another entree, or see if you can get the cheese on the side to prevent that. BUT they were still SOOOO YUMMY. The pico was soo flavorful and refreshing. 8.9/10 LOVE THIS PLACE! Decently priced, and a nice shop with lots of hispanic snacks and treats.

Each drink was fine, nothing overly delicious, but was expected. The chips and salsa were fine, though I wish the salsa had a little more salt. The chips were crispy. For food, we ordered the steak macho nachos and the pork belly tostada. As I said, the tortilla chips were crispy, however in the nachos they were heavily wilted. The nachos were absolutely drenched in queso. I love cheese, but this was overboard. Aside from the chips on the top layer, everything else was really soggy. Each component of the nachos tasted fine and would've been much better had they not been drowning in queso. I do wish there was more steak for how many nachos there were. The pork belly tostada was a total miss though. It appeared very difficult to eat due to the pork belly being one large piece vs being cut up. It was crispy in parts where the bbq sauce wasn't. The sauce was sweet, but not great; could've used more flavor. Didn't pair well with the pork belly. Overall my experience was not great by any means, but I'd be open to going back for drinks and trying something else.
