My all time favorite sushi place! I usually sit at the bar when I go. The sushi chefs are really friendly. I order a caterpillar roll and a California roll if I'm alone. I've tried a number of things on the menu but those are my favorite. They give you an appetizer while you wait and tea. Once after a meal with a friend, the chef cut up and orange in a very strange way. I loved it! They close for a few hours after lunch, and reopen for dinner. read more

We came her randomly the other day for dinner. We were immediately greeted at the door & offered a choice of where to sit. The servers were so nice & friendly, as well as the sushi chefs. You could tell who was a regular & who was new but they didn't make you feel uncomfortable even if you're not a familiar face. I ate the soft shell crab salad & it was SO good. She brought it and asked if it was just for me or to share and I was like oh just me, lol. Didn't know it was meant to be shared but my other half doesn't do salads so I took whatever was left home. He had the butterfish. That's a must have! Kind of small but that's only because I like to pick at his food. It's probably the perfect size for one person. I LOVE that the combos come with soba and other sides. My main dish was the sukiyaki. That was good too. I grew up in Japan so I'm unfortunately a Japanese food snob but everything was SO good & authentic down to the rice. We'll hopefully become regulars here. read more

You have your waitress and waiters continuously serving water and tea, the food was good and average priced for sushi. I would return mainly because the service was good, we stayed there close to 2 hours (both hanging out as well as reordering due to not being able to gauge the amount of food) with the largest party and they were attentive from start to finish, never felt rushed one bit. Went here for lunch this time around and while it wasn't busy the service was a little slow because there was only one person doing waitressing.Totally understandable tho since she had to recently fire the other waitress for not doing her job. One of my favorite Japanese restaurants in Hawaii. My favorites are their salmon, shrimp tempura and sushi.

First of all, the host/waiter guy was very rude. Kept reminding us and everyone around us that we got 90 minutes from the time of our reservation to finish our meal then leave. Really?? The place wasn't even crowded. Only had three tables filled even by the time 90 minutes was up. LOL ! What a joke. Make like it's a 5 star restaurant. No way even close. Anyways, then Coreen, the waitress/server was also very rude. No smile, no hello, nothing. Just plain out rude. She wasn't friendly either. She's acting like she's the owner. Omg and even if she was, that makes it even worst. Smh Lol! She kept standing and waiting by me at our table not saying anything. Like yes? You need to at least smile. Dang lady. The food was ehh. Nothing to brag about. This place was just convenient coz it's close to other places we like to go in the area and thought we'd give it a try. Never again though. read more

Came to this place just before closing with my boyfriend. The service was great, the food was yummy and the beer was cheap. We ordered the spicy tuna roll, crunchy roll and the hot soba noodles. The spicy tuna roll was amazing! It's good quality fish and has a super tasty sauce below. The second roll wasn't as memorable (crunchy roll) but certainly better than your average tempura roll. The soba broth was light and the noodles weren't too mushy. We ordered the bowl with a runny egg and were pleased with how the yolk added to the flavor of the broth. The prices for rolls are a little high but the quality is worth the price. Beer is cheap and they have a variety of beers from Japan. This place is great for both date night and a large party. I'll be coming back with friends to order a variety of rolls and drinks. read more

This is a great family restaurant. I say this because I went with 12 members of my family! And the restaurant easily and efficiently accommodated us (and this is not the first time). Waitstaff was polite, and unobtrusive. They also made sure we had enough water, refills of hot tea and brought all of our requests quickly. Solid and tasty local Japanese food. I say local because having lived in Japan and returning to Honolulu years ago, I realized that a lot of the food I thought was Japanese is really local Japanese. Miso butterfish for example is something I never had in Japan but is on every Japanese menu here in the Islands. When friends from Japan come to visit, they comment about the tasty and ingenious ways food comes together here-stuff they can't get back home. We were happy with everything and all the food was tasty too. A good family restaurant to me means several things--enough free parking to accommodate multiple cars, a table where we can all sit altogether, a menu with a variety of offerings that everyone can get something they like, prices that are not outrageous. Plates to share, attentive service for a larger party, a friendly atmosphere that doesn't mind children, and has high chairs in case you need them. This place is on my SHIT LIST because it gave me the SHITS! We ordered the Dynamite Roll, it tasted pretty OK until later on that night when I had stomach ache and constantly had to use the bathroom! I do not recommend anyone going to this place, everything about it is CRAPPY!! One of the male servers also gave us the wrong order. He brought some kind of soft shell crab salad to our table which I knew for a fact wasn't ours. So I called our server to our table and told him we didn't order it, he insisted that it came with my meal. After picking on the salad, he comes back to our table and says there has been a mix up with the orders and that the salad was not ours. You would assume that they would make a fresh salad and give it to whoever it belongs to.....WRONG.......He goes ahead and takes the salad from our table and brought it to the people who were sitting next to us.. GROSS!!! I would never eat something that someone else has picked on!! I think this guy lacks proper training with the handling of food.. He either needs a new career (definitely not in the food industry) or do some training that will teach him how to do his job the RIGHT WAY!! We came for sushi and we left stuffed, happy and planning a return visit. Very good signs when it comes to sushi on Oahu, of which there is no lack of selection. Our friends told us we MUST come here after we joined them at the monthly wine tasting at J n J (http://www.yelp.com/biz/j-n-j-food-and-beverage-store-aiea). This is their favorite spot and we were hoping for the best, sushi is a tough scene to really stand-out. We sat at the sushi bar and this is THE place to be, skip the tables and enjoy the best seats in the house. The service was attentive, kind and we were made to feel like family friends in no time. The food was prepared excellently, quickly and made us wanting more. I had to try their Agedashi tofu, which is my favorite way to start the night. The sauce was perfect, the batter on the tofu could have been "slightly" less fried but overall a great start. Tempura ala carte was good, just what I wanted but nothing over the top. The real star here is the nigiri and next time I'll most likely skip the cooked foods (maybe not the Agedashi) and jump right in. The White Tuna, Hamachi, Unagi and Spicy Tuna handroll were my favorites. My wife also really liked the Uni nigiri which is rare for her to find a place that doesn't have Uni with a "doodoo" taste. The nigiri as most people have pointed out has a HUGE piece of fish and a small bit of rice... the way sushi should be prepared. The fish drapes over all parts of the rice, easily 3-4 times the size of the rice that is hidden. We have high expectations with Morio's, Kona Kai, Sasabune and now Tadashi but if you're not in town Tadashi makes an amazing choice. read more

Tadashi's local-japanese food and casual ambiance remind me of Gyotaku, except with bigger portions and better sushi. but oh yeah i'm not a sushi-lover i'm an alcohol-lover, and it totally turned me off when we got the check to see an 18% "service charge" on the bottle of wine we bought. no i didn't say "brought" so it wasn't a corkage fee, this was a straight-up whack way to make even more money off of something that they prolly already make over 200% off of! hello?! who does that?! maybe i woulda understood if they actually poured the wine and gave us mini shoulder massages but uh-uh they didn't do either!! anyhoo i've had the butterfish, tonkatsu, soba and tendon - everything pretty yums. but butterfish is the best, maybe the most generous size on the island. the food also came out fast which is a plus for families with kids. our waitress last night wasn't the friendliest, but busboys kept our hot teas and waters filled so i guess it sorta balanced out. bottom line: i'd return to eat but they've lost me (and my money) on (lots and lots and lots) of alcohol sales. read more

The current rating for tadashi is totally skewed. I'm seeing "hella good sushi" and "my new favorite sushi place". Contrary to popular opinion, the sushi here is not good, the fish is not fresh, and the other entrees don't save this place. The first time I went here, the sushi was absolutely horrible. There was _way_ too much vinegar on the sushi rice. It was almost inedible. The second time the rice was fine and the fish was decent. My problem with this restaurant is the price. I can't remember exactly how much the rolls were, but I think they were in the $15 range. Yes they offer a variety of hand rolls, but the quality just isn't there. If the rolls were in the $8-$10 dollar range, this place would be so much better. It might even be a deal. For entrees, I had the tonkastu and mixed tempura. The tonkatsu was overcooked and the tempura was mushy. Bleh entrees for the win. The waiters fill up your drinks quickly and were helpful. The restaurant is big, but I can see it filling up on the weekends. I'm actually puzzled by the assortment of reviews for Tadashi. To me, this restaurant feels like a local Japanese restaurant that caters to people that don't mind that food is just OK. I might compare this place to Big City Diner. The food is average, but it's a local favorite. Maybe they'll read this review and lower their prices. Then it might be worth it to come back. Until then, I'm staying far far away. read more

The staff was very friendly and attentive. Constantly checking in with you to see if you need anything and answering all the questions we had. The food was delicious! We ordered an array of items and I must say everything was yummy and potions were great. Food was amazing and well seasoned. I came in by myself and was seated in a quiet corner which was perfect because I wanted to get some work done. I was given hot tea and ice water immediately. My server came a few moments later and asked if I had any questions. I did not but I ordered tempura. It was light, crispy, fresh and cooked perfectly. I sat awhile and was never rushed. My plates and bowls were cleared immediately as I emptied them and my tea and ice water stayed full. My server was warm and friendly as was the woman who sat me. Probably not worth the price! Izakaya Kei was packed so we came here instead for dinner on a Friday night. We ordered the beef sukiyaki bowl, a rainbow roll, hamachi and ebi nigiri, a spicy hamachi bowl, and the tempura. First off, the waitress got my spicy hamachi bowl order wrong but I don't blame her, I'm pretty soft spoken. What sucked was the waitress said "they" wouldn't let her push my order up even though my boyfriend already received his food so I'd have to wait "a while" for my food. I just cancelled it. I'm not sure who "they" are but they obviously don't know much about customer service. Beef sukiyaki was good but way too pricey. Could've gotten the same quality sukiyaki down the road from Ezogiku. In fact you could've gotten 2-3 beef sukiyaki bowls at Ezogiku for the price of 1 at Tadashi. Only difference is Tadashi puts an egg on top and big pieces of mushrooms. No complaints at all about the sushi and nigiri. They were awesome and decently priced for the quality. I especially liked the thick pieces of hamachi they had on the nigiri. The tempura was $14-15 and definitely not worth. Nothing special about the batter, the shrimp tempura was tasty but the veggies were bland. Overall, the food is good but not worth the price with so many other Japanese food places around them. Our waitress was kind but maybe the sushi chefs or management need some better customer service skills. read more

How have a lived on the Leeward side for half my life an never went into this place?! Grade A sashimi and sushi. Their fish is really fresh. I had a sashimi teishoku and it came with 2-3 massive size pieces of ahi, hamachi, clam, tako, salmon, and sweet scallops. I couldn't even finish! The meal came with miso soup, 3 appetizers, and a bowl of rice. The other members of our group ordered tonkatsu and nigiri teishoku. Equally winners. My cousins and I have been coming here for years, even before they extended. Lately, it's been the go to place since it's closer for everyone as opposed to somewhere in town. It's "cozy" as Krysti G. says. The wait staff are cool, even when we can been kinda loud (hahaha!) Tea and water cups don't go empty often. It's also a place that's kid friendly and good for the whole family. We all like the butterfish. If you like butterfish, I totally suggest it. I also like the soft shell crab salad. Probably the only not-so-good experience I have here is when they didn't have enough butterfish for all the orders from our table, so some of us had to sub for miso salmon. It was good, but it sure wasn't the butterfish. Parking is sometimes a pain. It's definitely not as bad as when 24-Hour Fitness was there. read more

Its been about two weeks since we ate here and I'm still happily thinking about my meal here and planning a return back. We came for dinner on a Sunday night and were seated promptly. Service was excellent and we were given water and tea and handed menus to look over. Our server greeted us and asked us if we had any questions about the menu and gave us some time to look over the menu and decide what to order. We decided to share a Hawaii 5-0 roll to start, and I ordered the sushi dinner and my husband ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner. The Hawaii 5-0 roll was absolutely delicious and I loved how each piece of the roll had a different piece of the fish with it and how you didn't need any soy sauce to enhance the flavor of the roll. Both of our meals came with a soba noodle salad, miso soup, and pickled vegetables. The sushi dinner came with a great assortment of negri and a tuna maki, and my husband's chicken teriyaki meal came with a bowl of rice. Judging by the fact that we were both members of the clean plate club, I think we both really liked our meals. Throughout our meal, our waters and tea stayed filled and our server checked on us regularly to see if we enjoyed our meal or needed anything additional. Once we were done eating, our plates were cleared off the table quickly, but we never felt rushed to leave. We were too stuffed to try desert, but will definitely be back. The parking lot is large and we found parking easily. I'm sure parking may be hard to find on busier nights, but its definitely worth it. Looking forward to a return trip. read more

The other day we came here after a long day of homework and realizing it was Sunday and things close early. Figured we would give it a shot since it is a Japanese place with somewhat good reviews. We got the butterfish and the tempura combo dinners. The butterfish is $20 and comes with the side dishes of miso soup, soba, seaweed salad and pickled veggies. The butterfish appetizer was around $15, so you are paying the extra $5 for sides. The butterfish was not worth it. We have definitely had better, nothing exciting or special about it. Tempura is tempura, hard to mess it up. In my opinion the food is way overpriced here and the servers are not friendly. Most of the time we were there they stood behind me at their station (assuming). I could feel their eyes burning a hole in my head as they watched everyone eat. You could tell they wanted everyone out, even though it was still an hour before they closed. We will not be coming back. read more

Butterfish! Butterfish! Butterfish!! So so yummy!! Seriously it is so good! Some dishes you can get with a complete meal type option, which I highly suggest. The soba noodles and miso soup are delicious! Dynamite roll is defintiely worth trying. My dad is not a sushi fan, but yet he was going back for more bites of that roll. The reason why I put it at 3 stars instead of 4 is because the prices are on the slightly higher end. The quality of ingredients are great, and that reflects in the prices. This place got two thumbs up from me for being open on Sunday! First of all, I don't really understand the ratings for this place since they range from 1 to 5 stars, but I haven't had a bad piece of fish in the 5 times I've been here. Go figure... some people just get unlucky I guess. I ordered the Salmon shioyaki which was perfectly cooked comes served with assorted tsukemono, miso soup and a side of soba. :) My boyfriend had the tempura which also came with the assorted sides and my son got the zaru soba. We also ordered the Hawaii 5-0 roll. Winnahs!!! It is unagi with salmon, ahi, and maguro(?) and avo over the top. Hard to explain, but broke da mouth good. I think I might just order that for a meal instead of just a few pieces with a full meal next time. I'm not too keen on the dirty carpet, but the service is friendly and the rice (which means everything at a Japanese sushi restaurant) is high quality. It's good to me. Plain and simple, but according to the variety of reviews, I'd say check it out for yourself and make your own decision since we can't seem to come to a consensus here. Tadashi serves local-style, overly sweetened Japanese food. Prices are pretty cheap, so it's a good deal if you want quantity but not quality. I prefer traditional Japanese cuisine, but my dad likes local food, so we recently had a family dinner here. I had the sukiyaki--vegetables, bamboo, tofu, mushrooms, and ribeye slices in a very thin, very sweet, light shoyu broth. The broth was too light and way too sweet for me. I don't like my meat--or my meal, for that matter--to be almost candy-sweet. My mother had the nabeyaki udon and she didn't care for the broth either. The noodles were overcooked as well. My father had the hamachi kama and he's happy with anything. We had some sushi also and it was okay. Service was fine and we had a good time, but we didn't eat anything worth returning for. read more

This is a nice Japanese restaurant located at the Pearl Kai Shopping center in Aiea. It's a nice restaurant with a lot of room and tables to accommodate many guests and large parties. You find the sushi bar on right, with seating at the bar. But it seems quite popular as on a Saturday night, guests had to wait outside. This was my second visit to this restaurant and I found the food quality to be very good, but not quite excellent. My parents ordered and enjoyed the miso butterfish and tonkatsu. I ordered the salmon shioyaki teishoku which came with miso soup, soba, tsukemono, and rice. The flavors of everything were very delicious, but I found the grilled salmon to be a little dry and the skin was a little burnt. I don't mind some char, but it did appear to be on the grill a little longer than needed. It was served with suri daikon, which really enhanced the flavor. They served hot tea which is great with the salmon. Here are some of the negative things. One thing I noticed on the wall next to our table was a sign that said "18% service charge for 6 or more people" - so that's a warning for large families and groups planning to go here. Also, we sat near the front door which slams loudly when it closes. I found that to be annoying. Also, with a lot of open tables (no booths), it can get loud during peak hours. All in all, I would recommend this place if you're looking for good Japanese food. Obviously a lot of locals come here and have a good time. Good, but price is just too much. -- Shrimp & Assorted Tempura, with (hot/cold) Udon/Soba, and 4pc Nigiri. ~$22.75. Love the portion on this one! I got lots of assorted veggie temp (carrot, pumpkin squash, eggplant, green bean) & 3pcs of shrimp tempura. Hot udon was bland though. But 4 pc nirigi is great! (Ahi, salmol, hamachi, and ika). Nigiri type is not chosen by customer but by sushi chef so it could vary (*BTW, love how server asked when ordered if you want wasabi under fish for nigiri)!! (4/5) bc udon lacked in flavor. *BTW, get their hot tea. So so yummy! Big cups, too :p Server was excellent! So sweet and always checking on all her tables :) she was the only server there when they opened, did great with 5 grps of customers. -----Pretty pricey despite the Yelp page saying only "$$". There was a half-hour wait to get into Off-the-Wall, so we went here. We sat at the sushi bar, my wife commented that the restaurant was expensive when we got the menus - but it was kinda my birthday meal and I was hungry and didn't want to drive anywhere so we stayed. We ordered the sashimi set ($35) and turned in the menus - we went a' la carte from there. An eel roll ($15); salmon roe; two small saki bottles (that is the only size they offered) later and when we got the bill - it was sticker shock / gut check - with tip, it was $100. The quality of the fish was good and well-prepared but truthfully it just wasn't worth the price points. I suggest you do yourself a favor, drive to town and go to Sushi King and eat as much or more for $40 less; hell, drive to town and go to Nobu for this prices and they'll do it up right and you'll be in much nicer digs; want local? go to Sushi Spot - the quality may not be as good but you'll pay a third and it's BYOB. This place is a special occasion / your-rich-cousin-who-you-don't-like-is-paying kinda place. read more
