Went there for lunch on Wednesday at around 12:00pm. As soon as you open the door, there is a sign that says 'reservations required for lunch'. I was thinking we wouldn't be able to eat there since we didn't know a reservation was required. The lady who greeted us said for us to make a reservation next time, but she could serve us today. She also said she is the only server today. We sat down at a table and the place is really spaced out. Only about 6 other tables are available and we're taken and they have stacks and stacks of tables and chairs toward the back of the restaurant. The service was pretty quick. The menus, waters, and our food came out reasonably quick. Just a warning that the hot tea is not free, they charge $1. Stumbled upon this gem on a Thursday night. I did not expect it to be so busy but each table was filled as we walked in around 5 pm. That's a good sign! We were greeted by a gentleman. Though the place was packed, he was able to accommodate us. We were seated with distance from other tables which I liked. Our friend had ordered everything for us so I don't remember everything that we had but every dish was delicious!!! For starters we had some fresh nigiri-- uni w/ quail egg, ebi, tataki, agedashi tofu, dynamite roll topped with yellowtail, bentos, butterfish, and even a bottle of lychee sake. Every single bite we took of the food was so fresh and yummy. Though we were full, we still kept pushing. How could we waste such good food?! I loved the creamy rich uni and was surprised with the agedashi tofu. I don't normally order these things because I've had bad experiences at other restaurants but really enjoyed it here. It was my first time going to Tadashi and their portion for food is HUGE. At first I was wondering why the price of a combo was expensive, but I realize that the portion can feed one really hungry person, or two people. I order the combination of Butterfish and tempura. I had some friends who order the tempura and sashimi combo, which I regret to get. The sashimi was big and looked better than most places. They gave you variety of different sashimi, which I thought that was amazing for a combo set. These combo set included miso soup, rice, and side dishes. After our meal, I was full! Recommend making reservation and you cannot do any take out at this place. They have limited of spacing as they still follow the COVID protocols. If you're in the Pearlridge area and Ono for Japanese food than please stop by Pearl Kai Shopping center and check out this gem. First time we went there we were greeted by the most friendliest staff (dinner time at 5pm). They asked us if the 90min dine in policy was alright and we said Yes because we were starving. When seated we were immediately offered water/hot tea/ sake and they made sure that we were comfortable. Evan was our server and he was THE ABSOLUTE BEST! Always prompt with our orders, spot on with the recommendations and he is a cool down to earth Braddah that will make you feel comfortable. We enjoyed our dinner and we were blown away by the service. Second time we came back, Evan remembered us and he was still the same consistent server. This goes for the rest of the staff as well. The food was super delicious, spicy poke bowl with side Unagi was my favorite as well as the Hawaiian roll. The highlight of my evening was when my sake bottle (Evan recommended me that sake) came in a cute little ice bath, I thought that was the cutest thing ever. I've tried many restaurants on the island and this is Still the best butter fish on the island! This is a Family run Restaurant. It is a Challenge for them which as far as I can tell is the owner his wife his son and one other person they hired to take care of all the people in the restaurant. I was surprised how fast the food came as I can imagine it is challenging to get everyone served. They politely indicated that they would like everyone to adhere to their hour and a half limit so that everyone will be able to dine at their fine restaurant! The dining area for Tadashi was nice and roomy. It was also clean and inviting. The workers were all very nice and friendly. We ordered and the food came out pretty quickly. Everything tasted good, similar to most other Japanese restaurants. Didn't try the sushi this time, but someone at our table had sashimi and she said the fish was fresh. I called to check if we needed to make reservations, and the guy was very nice. We were about 10-15 minutes away, so he said to just come. But he did remember my call when we got there. Again, he was very pleasant. The restaurant was about half full when we got there. The server who took our order was also super nice. She told us right away what they were out of. Our food came out in a timely manner. My husband got the Chirashi deluxe (oh shoot, I forgot to take pictures!), and I got the sushi and noodle combo (hot udon). Mom love this place wanted to go for this year 2024 Mother's Day. Reservations was made by my niece for 1pm, they already ran out of Ribeye, however we were going for the Butterfish combo with tempura, so all good! Our service was spot on, no complaints, our table was near the window but they space the tables comfortably a part so that's nice, no bumping into someone else's chair, hearing someone else's conversation, etc. Recommend their Butterfish if you enjoy Butterfish, had 3 different rolls of sushi, we were so full could not eat dinner. My party of 5 to cancel a 40th anniversary dinner at Tadashi last-minute because my toddler had a cough and runny nose and we couldn't bring him into the restaurant due to health protocols. Ok, I'll be honest, I was half expecting this place to be big hero 6 themed. Tadashi is the best big brother. It's not themed lol. But that's ok. There was only one other couple eating here at lunch time on the weekend. :/ We looked through the menu and I decided on the cold udon and shrimp tempura Over rice combo. The boyfriend got a special combo (salmon and tempura). In hindsight, the special combos are a better deal because ether come with miso soup and tsukemono. The salmon was also pretty large. My cold udon was good and the tempura was crunchy. The bill came to $50 for 2 people. So it's a bit expensive. The service was decent and parking wasn't a problem. I don't come to aiea very often, so idk when I will be back. But I was surprised to see there were so many places I would try in this little strip mall. read more

Back at Tadashi for some dinner with a couple of friends. We made reservations for 5pm on a Monday night. Best to make reservations bc they get quite busy. This time around, I ordered the cold noodles (udon) with nigiri. It came with maguro, salmon, hamachi, and ika. i also ordered a side of ikura nigiri. 2020 Pandemic Review (aka Take Out) We've been to Tadashi a few times over the many years they've been located at their Aiea location. For some reason it never came to mind but with most of our dining options being take out over these few months we were happy to rediscover Tadashi Restaurant. They have reopened for dine in service but reservations only as they've had to reduce their seating by 50%. Food: Big fan of their take out menu. Our go to usually some combination their New York Steak, Tempura, Butterfish, and Sashimi. While I expect some quality to be sacrificed when taking food out, Tadashi's items have been very reliable. Portions are generous and you still get all of the nice side dishes with your order (i.e. soba, miso soup, etc). Favorite so far has got to be the Chirashi bowl and the New Steak teishoku. Service: Easy ordering process, check out their online menu, give them a call, then head down to pick it up. All dishes packed securely and ready to go when you arrive at your designated time. Social Distancing: Tadashi is setup nicely to account for Covid. Take out orders are picked up in a side area, if it's not ready they politely ask you to wait outdoors. Dine In service requires temp reading and tables are spaced far apart. Value: Good Japanese food is not inexpensive but the Tadashi Special Combos are a great value. NY Steak and Tempura combo for $22.25 is an awesome deal! Overall: If the family has a craving for good take out Japanese food you could do much worse than Tadashi. Looking forward to the day we return to dine in but for now we are more than happy to keep ordering their take out! read more

KISS (ie Keep It Simple Stupid). My neighborhood sushi spot for years. They have it right. Simplicity, freshness, at a reasonable price. The big three; hamachi, maguro, and salmon omnipresent, never frozen or treated sit alongside local catch like Kona kampachi, onaga, opakapaka, Kauai shrimp, Kona abalone. Imports from Japan? Rarely. It's too expensive. The same principles apply in the COVID era. That said, they have streamlined their menu to items that will survive best as take out and created new value combos. Rice - well seasoned short grain rice. A more generous pinch of salt has been added to the sweetened vinegar mixture that really helps bring out the flavor of the fish. Nigiri - large pieces of fish on large balls of rice. Two biters. Always fresh seafood. Zero complaints. Vegas style rolls - once huge, now shrunken down to fit the take away containers. Expected combo of ingredients that deliver great flavors. Correct saucing and toppings so as not to overpower the flavor of the seafood or cause the pieces to fall apart. The "Hawaii Five-O Roll (unagi roll topped with slices of ahi, hamachi, slamon, avocado, and tobiko drizzled with kabayaki sauce) always good eats. From the limited ala carte menu, the tempura is the surprise. Maybe due to the lower volume of orders. Kabocha, sweet potato, carrot, and green beans still retain some snap, the eggplant yielding and not oily, the shrimp (3 in an order) sweet and properly cooked. Went back to Tadashi for the first time since the pandemic with some friends and it did not disappoint. I am a traditionalist when it comes to sushi, so we had an assortment of sushi. We always go for the best deals, dinner for two, comb meals, etc. At Tadashi, both my bf and I got a teishoku, which comes with tsukemono (pickled vegetables), soba, daily appetizer, rice and miso soup. My bf got the tonkatsu teishoku. The tonkatsu was on the bigger side, but it was just okay tasting. It comes with a small salad on the side (thumbs up emoji). I got the special combination of salmon shioyaki and tempura teishoku. I LOVE tempura so I enjoyed eating that. The salmon was a tad dry, no special sauce or seasoning. Meh. We also got the kake, which is a Japanese soba noodle soup. I LOVE soup as well so that was good! We usually get at least one sushi roll so we got the Tadashi roll, which has a bunch of delicious stuff in it (see menu pic for what's inside). I've been here for both lunch and dinner. I highly recommend making reservations for your meal here especially now with social distancing rules, there are less tables. When you call for a reservation, the person answering lets you know that temperatures will be taken prior to seating you, there is a 90 minute time limit, and a contact tracing form to be filled out will be left at the table. This is a great Japanese restaurant in Pearl Kai. I like that there are ample parking spaces here, even with so many businesses open, you can usually find a space close to where you are visiting. The spaces fronting the businesses are just a little bit bigger than the ones in the middle of the area. The menu is quite extensive with ala cartes, teishokus, rolls, sashimi, nigiri and more. Of course I tried the miso butterfish my first time here and it was grilled to perfection!!! The miso butterfish/tempura teishoku was quite filling!! Miso soup, small soba, tsukemono and one other seasonal dish starts your meal. The miso soup was yummy, soba was too!!! Tsukemono complemented the butterfish and tempura nicely!! The butterfish skin was slightly burnt - which I enjoy - and the fish was flavorful and moist. The tempura - 2 shrimp - 2 string beans - 1 kabocha - 1 eggplant was very tasty!! We ordered uni (sea urchin), hamachi, hotate (scallops), and my husband and I ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura and butterfish teishoku. Re visiting Tadashi's after being away for a while. As always, the food is well prepared and delicious. Tempura is hot and crisp, teri chicken (the heavily sauced kind), miso salmon and steak all delicious along with all the usual teishoku sides. But good Japanese food is kinda easy to find in Hawaii. Prices a bit high, but thats everywhere right? Tadashis is a good restaurant but feels different this time. 90 minutes time limit, which is fine I guess Reservations are needed altho they graciously found a table for us as we were the 1st ones in at 5pm. No take out, altho they did let me add a togo order to my meal. Svc charge for credit cards. Extra charge for extra bags. The signs are all around.
