The food was subpar at best and the highest price menu item was disgusting if not dangerous. The $40 Black and Blue Prime Rib came out cold. Not just too cold for my liking it was refrigerated. It was well below room temperature. So I kindly explained it to the fairly helpful server and he took it back. It came back with a slightly warmer microwaved look and a ton of white goop they call blue cheese, I think. It had so much old bay type seasoning I, tried to use the goop to get it off. My wife had the burger that was mid/meh kind of rubbery and my son had a french dip that he wouldn't order again. They did take a few dollars off my steak after I asked for a refund but they shouldn't have charged me at all. I think they rely on travelers who stay at the 2 hotels next door. The travelers will keep coming because they don't know any better, but thats a sad way to run a business. Shame on you Tailgators if thats the truth. read more

Food and service were average. I wouldn't say it was anything over the top but our needs were met. I had the Parmesan garlic chislic. Flavor was perfectly seasoned! Did have a few fatty pieces but noting horrible. Husband had the black and blue chislic which I assumed would have some blue cheese sprinkled on it or something but it didn't look any different than the regular. I terms of services we did have to ask for plates after appetizers came. The queso was really yummy! And the kids got the fried cheese curds which they devoured right away! When we got the containers back to the room and opened them, we discovered: We had paid $18 for 14 little cubes of tough chislic, which is basically little beef cubes with some salt. eef, For $12, we had NINE (i) battered green beans. This place is located just off the I90 freeway at highway 11 in Brandon. I used to live north of this restaurant and went there all the time. They were always consistent with food and service. Last night I went there again for the first time in ten years and had a great experience. This is a full bar but also a full dining experience. It is great for families or heading out with friends for drinks. They have a full menu that includes burger, pasta, salads, burritos and more. It is pretty easy to find something you like here. I ordered the Buffalo chicken penne which was like a mix between hot wings and Italian. It was pretty good and nice to have something different. This is an established well run restaurant. Come here every time I'm in Brandon and it's always the same. Typical locals joint, nothing fancy. I had the beef chislic and fries. They are very consistent and are always good. I was extremely pleased/surprised with this place. Parked my trailer next door and walked over for some dinner and to watch MNF. It wasn't super busy, and to go with their multiple TVs, they even had a local high school football game on. Now usually, when you're parked at a truckstop your options are garbage fast food, a garbage chain restaurant, or some local spot that is either very solid or very bad. Sat at the bar, greeted immediately, got my beer and placed my order. I ordered the grilled chicken w/side salad and broccoli. The salad was your fresh, typical side salad. The broccoli was cooked exactly how I like it and the chicken was the star of the show. Grilled chicken cooked to perfection, drizzled with their signature 'Gator Sauce'. I'm not quite sure what the sauce was made of (some sort of BBQ sauce base if I had to guess) but it was really nice and not smothered so you're still able to enjoy. Long story short, you find yourself in Brandon, SD, and hungry, give them a shot. It won't blow you away but it will be a much better option to fast food. read more

Tailgators is a staple in the area. You can always count on good food and excellent staff to get you what you want when you go to Tailgators. If you're driving by the exit and need a place to eat, be sure and stop by. Or if you just want to go somewhere for a drink, it's a great place for that too. You can watch your favorite game on TV while you're there as well. Plenty of TVs to watch. It's a friendly place with excellent food and appetizers. Not to mention above average/larger drinks than most places. The staff is always wonderful and there are always plenty of people working, which is something you don't see every day in today's world. Stopped here after checking in to the holiday inn express as it was so close and had decent reviews. I have no complaints. The service was great as was the food. I had the beef chislic (sirloin beef tips) which I had no idea what it was. Our server Emily was very patient explaining what it was and encouraged me to try and I'm glad I did. Excellent. My husband had a pepperoni pizza which he said was very good. Very good food, very good service, very convenient to our hotel. I get through there about four times a year . This last week the food was mediocre at best . First night : black and bleu prime rib , tasty . Dinner salad was watery and the baked potato was warm on the outside / undercooked inside . It took 3 potato's but they got it right . Second night : pizza . Great breakfast. The Frisco Breakfast Sandwich on Sourdough bread was awesome and very tasty. Nice combination of flavors. Big sandwich. And a lot of food for the price making this a great value for the price. We'll be back. Still keep thinking about that Frisco AND my breakfast. I have driven across the country twice, and the first time camped outside Brandon, SD and asked the attendant at the camp site for a recommendation for dinner. She recommended Tailgators and I had a great time. I was looking for a place where I could sit at the bar and talk to the bar tender and some locals or other people passing through and was pleased I was able to! In addition, prices were great coming from the New York Metro area, and everything was quick and tasty. I had such an enjoyable time that on my second cross country journey I knew I had to stay in the general area one night on the drive out to Yellowstone, that I planned to stay at the same camp site to go to Tailgators again. Like the first time, I had a great time and met some great people. It seems to be a place where a lot of people go as they pass through the area off I-90, so if you are interested in good food, good prices and meeting good people, I recommend a stop here if you are looking for some food on a trip along 90. read more

Solid restaurant. Food was "okay" but we didn't expect much going into it after experiencing the hotel next door. Ordered the nacho's with guac, wife had a taco salad and I had chicken fingers. Ate here for lunch while visiting family. We had three two year olds with us. Two have strict dietary restriction. The waitress would not let us order scrambled eggs for the children. Then the manager (Amy) came out and rudely told us it's against their policy to make eggs after 11AM. Despite the place being empty, the service was painfully slow. The food was mediocre at best. I guess when you are one of two restaurants in town, then Midwest hospitality and serving the customer are not necessary. I will not eat here again. We went on a Monday night around 6:30. Place was packed and understaffed with inexperienced staff. We waited 20 min to get a round of drinks then ordered our food which was cooked great but the waiter forgot some of the items that were ordered. We didn't bother telling him because it wasn't worth the hassle. We had no drinks for most of the dinner then we started ordering 2 at a time so we could stay ahead of his poor service. I had a gin and tonic and it was in a tall glass which I didn't order a "tall" and it tasted like there was almost no gin in it at all so I had a beer for the rest of the night. If you go here and it's busy leave and go somewhere else and you will be glad you did. The food that came out was great. Cooked perfectly, although inaccurate from what was ordered, but still acceptable. But forget about getting any condiments for fries and steaks, they would be cold before they arrived. Overall great food was overshadowed by poor service which ruined the meal and our night. Should have stayed in the hotel and had beers there and ordered pizza. read more
