"How's Fortune Cookie?" That's the question I asked the tennis pro when getting my racket restrung next door (tennis pros are widely known for exceptional opinions on Chinese restaurants). "It's alright," he said. I took that as a challenge. Maybe he had the Egg Foo Young and Peking Duck, whereas I was going for the Wonton Soup, Roast Pork Lo Mein, and Teriyaki Chicken. I stubbornly decided the tennis pro was going to be wrong. When I entered Fortune Cookie I was in Chinese takeout paradise. The place was immaculately clean, the staff was friendly and dressed in clothes with Chinese flower patterns that reminded me of botanical gardens, and the place was crowded. On top of that, the food arrived quickly. I dove into the Wonton Soup (not literally), but it was blah, blah, blah: one blah for each Wonton. The Teriyaki Chicken looked like pork. Based on the inside, it was Chicken, but it was definitely pork-ish. The taste was just okay (unless you like pork-ish). The Roast Pork Lo Mein was pretty good but not amazing. The food was average, but I'm giving Fortune Cookie a 4 for cleanliness and service--and for the possibility that the Egg Foo Young and Peking Duck are outstanding.

Location is tucked away and I feel as though I found a little hidden treasure. Visited the location on a mid-day Saturday. Food was ordered and came out correct and quickly for our entire family. The food was flavorful and portion size was plentiful. There were plenty of seating options for dining in. Restrooms were clean. I will definitely be back very soon!

I ordered lunch using Uber Eats. The delivery was very well done and prompt. The food was somewhat of a disappointment. Using Uber Eats, I ordered scallop with Garlic Sauce, spring roll, house Lo Mein and Plain Fried Rice. Didn't know why I was able to order both House Lo Mein and Plain Fried Rice. Some restaurants give two kinds of carbs, lo mein and fried rice so I figured this is one of those places. There was no fried rice. I wasn't sure if the order choice was incorrect with the system or they simply forgot. The sad thing was that the garlic scallop was soupy so I needed some kind of rice, rather than lo mein to finish the garlic scallop. Lo Mein noodles were soft and it seemed over boiled. Overall I would give 2.5 stars for the taste.

I didn't even get a picture of it because I was in a trance. I also had the braised beef noodle soup (pictured), top tier please visit this place. I'm plotting my next outing JUST to go here. I am a foodie at heart. My friend had the Ma-La Dried Peppers Chicken, that was also incredible. Everything has sooooo much flavor. The eggplant was hands down the best I've ever had in my life. Go on their website, the food looks just like the pictures in real life. It's also super clean inside. Just go, you won't be disappointed !

I was in one of those "I need noodles immediately" moods, and Sun's Kitchen did not disappoint. I called my order in for takeout, and everything was packed perfectly. No leaks, no mess, still hot when I got home, and the portion was surprisingly generous for the price. The dan dan noodles here are rich, savory, a little spicy, and incredibly comforting. If you're not familiar with them, dan dan noodles are a classic Sichuan street food dish from Chengdu traditionally tossed in a spicy, numbing ma-la sauce with pork, scallions, and pickled vegetables. Sun's Kitchen does a really delicious version that's flavorful without feeling too heavy. The noodles have that perfect chewy texture, and every bite has just enough heat to keep you going back for more. If you're someone who's curious about ethnic food but maybe unsure where to start, this is honestly a great entry-level dish. Yes, there's a little spice, but it's approachable and balanced. The dining room itself is modern and beautiful, and now that they serve beer and wine, I definitely need to come back and enjoy a full dine-in experience instead of rushing home with takeout. The only caveat is the parking lot can get a little chaotic since it's shared with neighboring businesses, especially during busy hours. But trust me, it's worth circling for a spot. Charlotte, there's a big wide world of food out there, and places like Sun's Kitchen make exploring it easy and delicious. Get out there and eat your way through it.

It was pushing 97 degrees outside, and after a long afternoon of computer work and errands, I finally stopped in for the crispy scallion chicken and pan-fried dumplings. Huge portions. Fair prices. Friendly people. Consistently solid food every single time. The best part today honestly might have been the air conditioning. They've got a cool, comfortable space to wait while your order is prepared, which felt amazing after baking outside all day. I forgot to take food photos because I was hungry and ready to get home, but trust me, they pack these takeout containers like a game of Jenga. Nothing spills. Nothing shifts. Everything is packed tight and thoughtfully. Only tiny downside: the dumpling sauce goes into the same container as the hot dumplings, so by the time I got home, it had softened the bottom a bit. Still, the dumpling wrappers are thick and crispy enough to survive the trip. Into the air fryer later they go. One warning: the parking lot can be chaotic since it sits right off busy Providence Road. Just be patient. Cars are constantly pulling in, backing out, blocking entrances, and today people were absolutely treating red lights like suggestions. Saw it multiple times, including a bus cutting across traffic when I had the right-of-way. Charlotte drivers... please relax a little. That said, the food made the trip worth it. Taipei Express is one of those dependable local spots that always comes through when you need a solid meal without spending a fortune. Life is too short to not eat well. Get out there and eat your way through Charlotte.

It is busy enough that plenty of other people had also called in for takeout. The price was higher than I thought it would be by a significant margin; I thought something was off but then rechecking their menu I saw it was indeed $20 for a vegetable entree. On the upside, they did offer brown rice at no extra charge. Still, I'll get three meals out of it and as someone who eats a lot of takeout, this was not a great value. In terms of quality, I was thrilled to find that they offered a stir-fried okra dish. This is a ubiquitous Indian dish, and of course okra is common throughout the tropics globally, but I'd never seen this offered at a Chinese restaurant before. And the rapid cooking technique typical of the cuisine produced a delightfully crisp vegetable, which went great with a black bean sauce and some very hot dried chilis. On the other hand, their interpretation of ma po tofu had some fermented broad beans but minimal vegetables (sometimes you get mushrooms or peas or at least some leeks or something) and no numbing sensation. They had a bean curd roll dish that I enjoyed, and some quality dumplings. Overall, not huge portions and a mix of okay to great quality.
