My friends love this place, and now I understand why. The drinks are always great, and the spicy tuna crispy rice is some of the best I've ever had. I ordered the crispy chicken, which was good, but I'd probably skip it next time and just order more crispy rice. My friends also swear by the sides. Great drinks, great atmosphere, and definitely worth a visit.
UNFORTUNATE-My friend and I recently had dinner here and, overall, the food was outstanding and the service during our meal was excellent. The restaurant has a wonderful atmosphere, and we genuinely enjoyed our evening. The reason I'm leaving 1 star instead of 5 is because of what happened at the end of our visit. The meal ended up costing more than I had anticipated, so while I did leave a tip, it was smaller than I would normally prefer. After I paid, our server approached me and questioned the amount of the tip. I was surprised and uncomfortable being asked to explain my gratuity. I understand that tips are an important part of restaurant service, but I don't think guests should be confronted about the amount they leave. It's unfortunate because the food and service throughout the meal were excellent, and this single interaction changed my final impression.
This is probably my 4th or 5th time coming here for GNO/Bday get-togethers. And this place never disappoints because with their extensive menu, we always end up loving what we order and my girlfriends end up coming back with their other friends. Here's a list of dishes and drinks that we've tried and loved: Cocktails: Fusion, watermelon margarita, ventura heat Brussels sprouts chips Yellowtail serrano Green Beans Miso Eggplant Tofu Mushroom tobanyaki (this was the unexpected star of the show!) Popcorn Shrimp Seabass (we ordered 3) Salmon Truffle Roll Butter Cake We went on a weekday night and boy oh boy was the whole place packed for dinner and bar seating, from front patio to the back courtyard! I definitely recommend getting reservations ahead of time. The best seating is the beautiful courtyard in the back. Our server was Aidan. Thank you Aidan for your great service. The dishes were staggered and family style so we didn't feel rushed nor were we waiting too long in between. There is valet parking. Street parking is a hit or miss....this is Ventura Blvd btw so IYKYK. Make sure to bookmark this place, you won't be disappointed!
I had a gift card for here and I've heard good things so I was given the opportunity to try this place out. We went for happy hour on a friday evening and were seated right away. We ended up basically getting half of the happy hour menu. We ordered the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice ($8), Crispy Chicken ($12), Seared Albacore ($16), Yellowtail Serrano ($16), and Salmon Truffle Roll ($16). For drinks we ordered both happy hour cocktails, the Fusion and the Yuzu Margarita ($12 each). Outside of the happy hour menu we also ordered the Chef's Choice 5 Piece Sushi. Everything we ordered was amazing. The fish was so fresh and the drinks were really strong. The crispy chicken definitely helped the most in getting us full. The chef's choice was also great because you get to try out multiple items and see what you like, even though we ended up liking all of them. Our server passed by often and was easy to wave down whenever we needed anything. They checked up on us often and whenever we requested anything they were quick to bring them out to us. It is quite far from me but I'm glad I tried it. I will definitely add this to the list of places to return to when I'm back in the area though!
TLDR: 5/5 A spacious well lit and fun interior with a nice assortment of tasty food and great service to go along with it Ordered: Shishito Peppers: 5/5 - First time having Shishito and honestly they were so tasty. They're not hot at all so they're just a nice good crispy vegetable with a tangy type of hoisin sauce. Great sharable option Brussel Sprouts: 4/5 - I mean they're great, if you don't know how to eat a vegetable this is a great way to get some in your system but why have the Brussels when you can have the Peppers I just mentioned?? Crudo w Crispy Onions - 3/5 I think this is really good for someone. I just think the flavors didn't harmonize that well for me. The fish was tender though! Salmon Crudo - 5/5 - Simple, light, and a great palette cleanser Popcorn Shrimp Tempura - 4/5 - These do remind me of Funnel Cake in the best way possible. With that said its it's a great shareable option. On its own I think it'd be too sweet and heavy. They give you plenty to go around though! Spicy Tuna with Crispy Rice - 4.5/5 - Oh mama these are a mouthful literally. The proportion of rice to fish is once that every other establishment should take note on. With that said I think the Spicy tuna was just a hair bland (perhaps stacked against the crudo it's a tough spot to be in) but it still delivers. Spicy Albacore - 5/5 - A fan favorite for sure I think we got this twice. Its light and citrusy with a good bite from the jalapenos. These rolls too are stuffed to the brim so when its good, you can eat good as well. Yuzu Kosho Roll - 4.8/5 - Close runner up. At Taisho I think they do the citrus skewing rolls really well here. The flavors are well balanced and make the fish stand out Sweet and Spicy Crab Roll - 4/5 - Definitely run in the mill all these considered out of this line up but that doesn't mean its not good there's just better ones. I think the flavor has potential to be better! Service: 5/5 We made a reservation for 8 ahead of time and were seated sort of in the heart of the restaurant but there's still so much room and arrangements you never really felt like it was super busy. The staff were so on top of it to accommodate. Dishes arrived in record time, glasses filled without us needing to ask, alterations were accepted. We had a birthday and they were so incredibly patient to make sure our whole party was there to bring out the cupcakes we got. God bless them we had no idea they were waiting in the kitchen! But they treated us not only with our own cupcakes served but their dessert as well. Truly unreasonable hospitality Vibe: 5/5 As I said this is kind of a vibe. I think there's a special event for anyone here: whether catching up with the girls, first date, just grabbing a drink at the bar, or celebrating a birthday. Parking: N/A Its ventura, it is what it is. However this is on a not as populated area of ventura so there's a slight ~just slightly~ better chance to find metered parking, which gives me more peace of mind than most of ventura would. I'd recommend this place to anyone. Excited to go back!
I have been meaning to try this gem for quite some time. I came here for a cute date night and the ambiance is very sleek & chic but very inviting & cozy at the same time. Staff were very friendly and other waiters (and even the manager at one point) stepped in to assist when the spot got a little busy. That being said let's get into the food. I don't have many pics of the dishes but that's simply because I inhaled them upon arrival (and I'm not ashamed to admit it lol). We ordered the yellowtail serrano sashimi which was my favorite. It was fresh with just the right amount of heat. The rib eye wrapped asparagus was great but we ordered the rib-eye medium and I think I would have enjoyed the dish much better if it were medium-rare. That's my bad though. The filet mignon japonais was so tender and flavorful I should have ordered a second one! You also can't go wrong with a spicy tuna over crispy rice. If it's on the menu babe, I'm ordering it. I really enjoyed the lobster roll. The miso hollandaise was a very interesting addition, but it works. I loved it! Last but not least we ordered the Kumamoto oysters. They are petite but they are the main event! Should have ordered another have dozen lol!

First time here, and I've been meaning to try Taisho for a long time--so glad we finally did because we were definitely impressed and really enjoyed our time. The hosts and servers were very friendly. Our server, Sarah, was especially kind and helpful. She was patient, gave great recommendations, and truly made the experience even better. Everything we ordered was amazing: the spinach salad, lobster roll, spicy albacore roll, toro sushi, crispy chicken, and a few other dishes I can't even remember because we ate it so fast I didn't get to take pictures. It was all so fresh and delicious. My husband is very picky, especially with sushi, and even he was really impressed--he already promised to take me back. The restaurant has a really nice, date-night vibe, even though we were there with a baby and family. They were very accommodating with the stroller, and we loved the atmosphere and the music--not too loud, just right. Great food, beautiful aesthetic, excellent service, and high quality overall. They also offer convenient valet plus street parking. We'll definitely be coming back soon. Highly recommend!
I've been meaning to try this place for so long after a good recommendation from a friend. Finally go to try it out on a date night last week and was so satisfied. Highly recommend making reservations because otherwise you'll get sat in the very loud main room. I got us a table using my Amex Resy benefit and got sat in the quieter back room near the kitchen. Otherwise, it's way too loud to hear each other speak. Recommendations: As somebody who isn't a fan of Brussels sprouts, believe me when I say these crispy Brussels sprouts will change your mind. They're SO good, they taste like savory chips. Not overly truffley like many restaurants tend to do. If the special is still available, please do yourself a favor and order the Snapper Tostada. They're so perfectly created, no notes. Every bite is perfectly balanced, wouldn't change a thing. Only comes with two tostadas, so if your party is larger, order more. Everything else was good but not so incredible to write home about. Ingredients do taste very fresh and well made however some things are a bit off. Snapper carpaccio needs maybe an oil or a slightest bit of sauce something. Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice isn't crispy enough. Yuzu Kosho roll tastes more of avocado than it does of yellowtail. For the price, I'd probably just get sushi rolls elsewhere. Skip the fried rice. Great portion sizes for every item. Service was incredible (without the service, I'd give the place 3 stars), I never once had to ask for a water refill. They cleaned up so quickly after every dish. Would love to try other items again.
Daniel the manager, our host and the rest of the team were AMAZING they make you feel welcome. This place was damn cute, small but really cute. If you want to have a fun date night out this is the place. Food was really great also. You should try their crispy chicken - i really like this one - so crispy and juicy - paired with spicy mayo Try their sweet and spicy crab rolls - so good too great amount the balance between sweet and spicy is great. Would definitely come back and have a great meal in this place again.
I visited Taisho with a friend and first off... parking was difficult (!) if valet is avoided. There are spots nearby in the residential area, but you'll need to walk a long block away for free parking in the evenings. All of the staff members were pleasant to interact with, and the interior decor was nice to experience. My favorite part was the angled mirrors; even for those sitting facing the wall, seeing behind was easy - no sneaking up! It also gave the illusion that the space was bigger. Lighting was on the dimmer end, giving a more intimate experience with food. We started off with Little Gems, a salad with yuzu and ginger dressing that was impressive. It reminded me of a tangy salad, but it was much more interesting with yuzu. We later moved onto the Yellowtail Serrano - yum! That serrano definitely left a kick! Their Miso Eggplant was up next - also tasty, though the thick sauce was a tad too sweet, almost like a syrup. We next had a spicy tuna crispy rice; the crispy rice was had a thick, sweet fried layer, and the rice was also fairly sticky. I think this was a good take on a new creation, but it wasn't for me. The sushi was just okay. Flipping through Yelp pictures, Lobster Noodles caught my eye; we ordered that, and it was tasty. The lobster tail had no meat, but rather it was cut and mixed into the noodles. The tail also had little meat and was a tad bitter.:/ Though we were stuffed, we tried their butter cake for dessert. The vanilla ice cream was tasty, and that butter cake was... definitely heavy! I've never tried this before, and it reminded me of pound cake. Worth the try? Mayhaps...

Some friends of ours asked us to join them here, and I'm glad they did. This place is AMAZING !! The place looks small until you go inside, and it opens to a nice back patio area. We were greeted so nicely and sat promptly. Our server David recommended some great drinks, and appetizers. We ordered the Fusion and the watermelon margarita, and for appetizers we ordered the shishito peppers, yellowtail Serrano, and Kumamoto oysters which were all outstanding. In fact the oysters were some of the best we've had. We then ordered the A5 wagyu short ribs, popcorn tempura shrimp, lobster noodles, and the crispy whole striped bass which were all amazing. And for dessert we ordered the butter cake ...OMG it is by far the best we've ever had. The owner did come by and give us some special saki and a chocolate saki for dessert which were fantastic. Definitely recommend this place and ask for David, he is one of the top servers that we've encountered. Whenever we come back to LA, I don't care where we stay, we will definitely be back. read more

Can I just say I LOVE IT HERE??!?! Service has been amazing the three times I've visited. Parking is annoying, but usually find meter parking. They do offer valet :) I recommend making reservations, but they absolutely accept walk-ins for the bar area. Bathroom is usually kept clean! Food is a bit pricey for the tapas portions, but everything I've tried has been QUALITY. I highly recommend if you are a fan of Japanese cuisine and ordering plates to share! My new favorite spot. Can't wait to come back and try more menu items! NEWS: they just opened for weekend brunch!!!! Ventura heat margarita - 9/10 if you like spicy with some fruit taste! Yuzu margarita - 8.5/10 kinda sweet but so smooth! Lobster noodles - 8.5/10 Spicy tuna crispy rice - 10/10!!! Just wish they gave more than 4 pieces :( Yellowtail sashimi - 9/10 SO FRESH!!! Vanilla butter cake - 10000000/10!!!!!!! I dream about it Elote - 7/10 good flavor mix and a nice little snack to eat while you wait for your other dishes Short ribs - 9/10!!! EXCELLENT!!!! 5+ STARS We had a double date night with our great friends and had one of the best times that we've had at a restaurant in a long time!! When we arrived Patrick greeted us at the front hostess stand and from there everything got better thru the night until we walked out the door for the evening. Superb service throughout the entire evening!! Nate was our server and we said next time we're in we're asking for him. ;) The entire night was very magical with amazing and fresh foods and drinks. I tried the Fusion cocktail and it was delicious! I wasn't driving so I had 2 and that was perfect for me. When I say Taisho is worth it to splurge on sushi for a night out, it's worth it. The menu is laid out in order of how the restaurant suggests you eat your meal. From the "Bites" section we got the Crispy Brussel Sprouts (super crunch and chip like - not like the usual oil-soaked Brussels), as well as Poke Taco and Avocado tacos which weren't listed on the menu. SO good. From "New-Style Sashimi" (a modern take on/presentation of sashimi), we got the Tuna Avocado. Delicious. From "Hot Dishes", we got the Green Beans, Tempura Cauliflower, Spicy Kurobata Fried Rice (with pork belly), Popcorn Tempura Shrimp. My fave out of all of these were the Green Beans; incredibly simple yet so insanely delicious it almost didn't make sense. My husband got some of the "Robata-Yaki", which is essentially the "protein on skewers" section (although some just come grilled on a plate). He enjoyed the Pork Belly and Shrimp & Bacon. My BIL ordered the TAISHO Chef's Choice Sushi and it did not disappoint. Every piece was fresh and flavorful. From the "Sushi Rolls" section, we had the Sweet & Spicy Crab Roll, as well as the Spicy Albacore Roll. So good and not drenched in sauce. Highly recommend reserving in advance; even at 10:30 PM when we had our reservation, the place was PACKED. The servers were kind and we never felt like we had been forgotten about or that we had to wait too long to get our food. The restaurant gets VERY loud when it's full, so be prepared. Street parking is avail along Ventura, but they also have valet if that's what you prefer. read more

The outdoor seating was fantastic, but the food was mediocre. We weren't impressed with the fish, particularly the taste of the tuna. On the bright side, the strawberry and yuzu mocktail was delicious, and the service was outstanding. read more

This is my husband and mines favorite spot in the Valley. We've had Aidan as our server twice now and he's so personable- makes you feel like family. Not to mention the manager Tom and Chef Anthony are the best in the biz! Thanks for always taking fantastic care of us! My husband ordered a double of the special off menu item and it was superb. We had a robata party last night! Tried pretty much everything from the grill! And the crispy rice is so on point! Thursday night is my favorite night to go! The vibe! The service! The energy! The bartender that throws up the martini shaker! He is so fun, I enjoy him so much!!! I love this place so much, I'm looking to get a house nearby! Lol read more

Okay, Anderson .Paak, you influenced me. I've been seeing it on his stories and had this place bookmarked for a while. I was excited to hear that some of my fellow colleagues wanted to come join me for a holiday dinner here! This place is poppin'. There were so many people here on a Tuesday night. Even the small outdoor patio had a few peeps. We ordered some delicious cocktails, apps, and of course, sushi. I can't remember the name anymore but the spicy margarita was bomb. I'd like to say I probably had two of those at least while munching down on my food. The oysters were super fresh, brussel sprouts were nice and crispy, sushi rolls were good, and the vibes were nice. I'm giving them a four star instead of a five because although the food was good, the price is definitely a lot heftier than other Japanese restaurants that I've gone too, but i guess you're coming here for the vibes and not JUST the food. This is a place where you want to be "seen" in the valley IMO. read more

Been here a few times now and they are very consistent in food, service, and ambiance. Each visit has been a great experience. Specifically this last visit with Mike as our server! He was very knowledgeable and made great suggestions. Can't wait to come back! read more

Such a great experience. Our server David made sure we tried all the best things and share some off menu items as well. You can't go wrong with any of the items here. We tried the crispy Brussels sprouts, shishito peppers, a few sashimi dishes, tempura cauliflower, crispy rice with salmon and tuna, robata avocado, beef and fish, and some sushi rolls too. Everything was delicious, the restaurant was beautifully done, quick service, ample street parking and valet, and we were gifted hot chocolate sake to finish off our meal. They also have happy hour but it is limited to bar seating. A must try and will be back again! read more

Went today as a surprise from my SO and we had the Dine LA menu. Drinks and food were fantastic and great service from Michael. Highly recommend for value for Dine LA! We took quite a lot of leftovers home :) read more
Visited Taisho for the first time on a Tuesday night. I got there at 7 and it seemed pretty mellow. The waitress informed us that weekends get pretty rowdy in there and people "twerk around the bar". Sorry to have missed that! Love the ambiance and vibe of the restaurant overall. They were great with checking vaccinations at the door too! The waitress who helped us was so friendly and made great recommendations. I highly enjoyed drinking sake by the glass! As far as the food, I guess I was expecting mind blowing sushi but I honestly wasn't super impressed with the yellowtail sashimi or tuna crispy rice. My favorites however were the wagyu short ribs and the oysters. We also ordered the brussel sprouts, and the spicy fried rice. Those dishes were absolutely delicious. In my opinion the sushi wasn't better than any other upper scale sushi restaurant in the valley. My take away, stick to the hot dishes! Those are definitely worth it. ALSO, the butter cake and the chocolate chip cookies were bomb dot com! Simple, but suuuper tasty. There's some patio seating with high top tables but not too many heaters out there so bundle up if you are sitting outside! Valet or street parking available. read more

Well, this was my 2nd time trying this place and I'm very disappointed. 1st time we went I only tried cooked rolls and it was okay; so we decided to go again to try other items. We ordered whole fried fish looked nice but horrible taste; too greasy and too much bread I could not even taste the fish itself. After it I had heartburn for at least 5 hrs:( I have to mention about their bathroom which was very dirty. I am not going back to this place anymore! read more

I loved this place! It is hard to get a seat outside in the back which is the cutest area but it was still nice. The hosts were so sweet and it got pretty busy even on a Wednesday when we went. That's how I know it's a true hot spot. The fried seabass is on the hidden menu, it's $80 but it's so worth it. Everyone there was so friendly even the guests and it didn't feel weird even with Covid and all. read more

I've never had a problem with my pup on the patio, and they've brought her water. I'd assume if anything obviously not at night when super busy.

You can definitely bring kids but some tables won’t allow for high chairs and it gets pretty loud for dinner with the music and everyone enjoying themselves. It’s more of a date night / celebration spot but there’s no reason you can’t bring…

There wasn't a dress code that I was aware of. People were dressed casually, some a little more dressed up but nothing over the top.
