This place is very good if you purely coming here for a nice, refreshing snack and nothing else. If you come here with anymore expectations other than that you will be dissatisfied. Heard this place is very good for Chaat ( Especially Pani Puri) from one of my colleagues and decided to try it. We went to there on Friday around 8pm and I should say the restaurant is really busy. There were lot of people and we finally ordered Pani Puri, Dahi vada Chaat, Paneer Dosa, Malai Kofta. The chaat are really awesome - I would give 4/5 for the chat especially the Pani Puri which was really good. The Dahi vada Chaat was okayish because the vada was not so fresh but overall flavor was good. The Paneer Dosa was not so good ( The Dosa was crispy and nice) but the Paneer masala had only red chilli and had only spicy flavor with so much oil. The Malai Kofta was definitely not upto the level and not good at all. The tandoori roti was good. Like the name suggests, Chaat is really their USP. Other food may be mediocre to good. They do have a huge menu to satisfy every craving. Good: You can get a hell lot of cheap Indian food, for 25$ we got a pav bhaji, two masala chai, one gobhi manchurian with rice, raita and one big naan and mix uthapam. Couple that with unlimited sambhar(two types) and 4 types of chutneys. Chai was good too. Okish: On food, mix uthapam was good, sambhar was unlimited but not great. chutneys were good too, not out of the world. Naan was really good. Bad: Gobi manchurian was the worst I had in my life. Rice and rayta are provided though not great either. Pav bhaji is like a masala potato slurry, but tastes ok. Forget about ambiance it's something to be left out completely. I was so heart broken when we realized we will not be able to visit this place during our Dallas trip. But then stars got aligned and we got to visit this place ;) Our flight got delayed and we wanted to eat something before take off. And this place is not far from airport so everything worked out well. Entered around 4 pm on a Tuesday evening, place was empty with only 2 customers eating their food. We ordered 2 vada pav for us and 2 pani puri for our friends. With pani puri they had the option of eating it at the counter(India style ;)) or eating at your table. We went with the option of eating it at the counter. Me and hubby just had one piece, our friends had the rest of them. The pani in pani puri was so cold that I had a brain freeze so I am surely not a fan :D During hot summers this might be an ideal option but in winters I will clearly stay away from cold chaat items :D Within 10 mins we got our vada pavs, which were more like mumbai burgers. Different but delicious!! By now we had worked up our appetite so we ordered a masala dosa. It was huge! Me and my husband ate most of it. This place offers self-serve sambhars and chutneys. They had 2 varieties of sambhars; one hot spicy and other one medium spicy. We tried both and medium spicy was our favorite. I loved their coconut chutney and had some of it with the vada pav too..lol. And they had fried chilies, raw onions that you can eat with your vada pav making it extra delicious. For south indian items, they have so many chutneys that you will surely have hard time making a selection. I am glad that we got to visit this place during our trip to dallas. Oh. My. Goodness. Literally the best indian food ever. We are obsessed with this place. It's perfectly spicy, fills us up every time, and we feel so awake and so good after eating here. The people who work there are so incredibly friendly, and remember that we are vegan every time we go in. They take their time to make vegan dishes for us. I absolutely love it! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because of the styrofoam and plastic everything. That's the only thing I would change, because styrofoam can't biodegrade and I don't think the plastic is recycled. So it's not very environmentally friendly. The food is delicious and fresh, tried masala dosa and onion tomato uttapam and it tasted really good; I would say the second best in Irving. The sambhar and chutney bar is interesting and you can taste all of it as much as you want because it's unlimited Very reasonably priced with sufficient quantity, the roasted saunf (fennel seeds) are so delicious. My second return to Taj Chaat proved to be an even better experience than the one prior. With my trusty friend Piyusha and the amazing company of other Yelp friends, we explored to the varied menu of Northern Indian cuisine to South Indian cuisine. I learned what certain menu items are and what they mean in Indian and had a delightful time doing so. The restaurant was packed, but the service, particularly the manager was helpful matched by a cheery attitude. My favorite item on the menu had to have been the bel phuri or the samosa chaat. Oh boy! Do I love this place or what. Authentic Indian street food. I would stick with the snacks though, i really don't love the standard indian dishes here like the paneer, or gobi. I love their pain puri, so I will always get a plate of that. You eat that like you are in the streets of Delhi, the lady makes each one for you, customized to your liking with spicy or sweet chutney and she will let you know when you're on your last pani puri. The other dishes i love is their kachori, bhel puri, papdi chaat. Sometimes their tikki with chole can be good, but sometimes the chole has way too much oil for my liking. You basically tell them what you want as far as the pani puri, and you can write on an order form what you like for the other snacks they serve, they will give you a pager so that you know when your food is ready. The pager also serves as a way to track which dishes you ordered, so once you finish you hand the pager to the cashier and can pay for your food. They also have Kaurina's kulfi and my favorite is MALAI!!! YUM Oh also their dosa is delicious, and they serve complimentary sambhar....YUM YUM YUM! read more

This place is AUTHENTIC Indian food, which you can quickly tell by the fact that my friends and I were the only non-Indian customers in the restaurant. Most of the "normal" dishes I order at Indian restaurants weren't on the menu so I trusted Yelp (and the cashier) to give me and my friends suggestions. First we had Dahi puri which are little crunchy pastry shells filled with potato, chickpea, onion, and chutney and sauces. They are cold, and I was surprised by how sweet they were! I had ordered them spicy, but didn't actually get as much heat as I'm used to when I usually order spicy at an Indian restaurant. Either way, these were a tasty start for the table. Masala dosa is like a big folded over crispy bread (you can order it soft or crispy, and I would recommend the soft because it looked better after I got mine) and it has a tasty potato serving in the middle of it. You can also use chutney on the bread which is yum. Pav bhaji was by far my favorite thing, it was potato and I think beans and reminded me a bit of dahl. THIS one actually packed a little heat when I ordered it spicy and it came with little discs of fried bread which was fantastic. I ended up eating almost this entire plate by myself because it was too hot for the rest of the table. Most definitely would order again! As a non-Indian, Taj Chaat might seem intimidating at first, but it is THE go to place for authentic vegetarian Indian food. Taj Chaat has a relatively large menu. I couldn't pronounce about 90% of their selection, but be adventurous and try something new or ask the recommendation of one of their servers. Their ordering system is a bit complicated and un-orthodox, but their staff was very friendly and helped me place my order. You get a number and electronic device. You place your order to a woman near the kitchen and have a seat while enjoying complimentary soups and sides. When the device vibrates, you pick up your food from the kitchen. You can go up and order more any time, just show them your number. When it's time to pay, you hand in your electronic device to the cashier, who will have an automatic tab ready for payment. The food itself is delicious with plenty of allergen and vegan friendly options. You can customize how spicy you want a dish, and for non-regulars, I recommend the lowest amount of spice, especially to start off. Finally, experiment with different dishes, and finish off whatever you ordered with a mango lasee. You won't be disappointed. read more

So Irving might have more Indian restaurants per capita than India does - so competition is fierce between them. I honestly do believe that Taj Chaat House stands above all the rest. A few things to note: the inside of this place is not glamorous. It is pretty plain with minimal decoration- but you don't come here to look at art, you come for the food! The next thing is that this place is vegetarian. As a devoted omnivore, this might have turned me off initially- but I ate here twice before I even realized they have no meat on their menu! The last thing is that they have a huge menu, and almost none of it is in English. I strongly recommend that you pull the menu up online before going to figure out what you want. This will save you some anxiety when it comes time to order. OK, one more thing to know - to have the optimal Taj Chaat experience, you will need to like spicy food. All of their best dishes are at least medium spicy, and only go up from there! They have a little chutney bar off to the side with lots of delicious (and spicy!) things to dip your food into. As far as recommendations- if you're new to Indian food, get the sampler plate. This will let you try a variety of foods to see what you like. I personally get the Medhu Vada every time I go (imagine a savory lentil doughnut), dip it in the tomato chutney and you are in heaven! read more

Having had chaat on the reg in India, I can confidently say that this is one of the best places for chaat in Dallas. Samosa chaat is my favorite but everything else I saw looked great! This place is filled with people who are natively from India which I think is the best marker for the quality here. I'm not sure if this area is officially the "Little India" of Dallas but being next to an Indian grocery store, eyebrow threading salon and not too far from an Indian clothing store, I think it unofficially takes that title. My husband and I LOVE experimenting, and we had been looking for a good Indian place. Once again Yelp came to our rescue! Upon entering, we realized we were super overdressed (it was on a Sunday). But nobody seemed to care. The guy at the front was awesome! We had no idea what to order or where to start but he was so helpful and ended up choosing for us. There are so many Indian restaurants in Irving that it's hard to choose which one to try when craving Indian food. I have been to Taj Chaat House multiple times in the past and I must say that they have the most authentic and fresh tasting Indian food in the area. The restaurant is well maintained and the food is so tasteful. They only have vegetarian options so it is a good place to come to if that's what you're looking for. I always get a chaat from the chaat area and then some garlic naan and paneer bhurji. They make it fresh as you order it. They also have a little area on the side to get sambhar, pickled sides and salad from. All the chaats are delicious. I like to get the pani puri on the counter because you can modify the spice level of the water as you like and they make them one at a time for you as you eat them at the counter. The garlic naan is a must when you come here. They are probably the best ones I've tried in the area and you can taste the freshness.
