This was my first time at this resturant. I am new in town. I pulled the menu online at http://www.tajindia.co/menu/ which listed the Lamb Curry as 9.95.And the Chicken Tikki Masala as 8.95$ and a garlic naan for 3.95. I called and ordered. When the I got the resturqnt I was handed a bill for 35$. The server added an additonal 10$. He explanied that the prices are different depending on the time. This was news to me because no where on the menu site did it indicate a price difference depending on time. When I protested the man explained to me that the prices on their website where not correct. After insisting that this was the vendor error and not mine, he still tried to charge me 35$. Finally he agreed to reduce the bill, but instead charged me 30$ and not 25$, est The food was ok, but the first time service was a turn off. Its unlikely I will not go again. read more

Great place for both lunch and dinner. Love their dal makhani and garlic naans. We tried gulab jamuns too, perfect amount of sweetness, very soft and delicious. Service can sometimes be slow but they have great Indian food right in the middle of Bedford downtown. read more

This place is amazing! I loved everything. I had a chicken dish and tried a eggplant vegetarian dish. They ask if you want mild ,medium or hot, I said medium and so glad I didn't say hot.. The medium warmed me up! I also had the lamb and potato bread it was nice and fresh! I highly recommend this place if you like India food! I think the food here is delicious!!!! I rate a place on their shrimp tikka masala, saag paneer, and malai kofta - and all of those dishes here are wonderful! Add some garlic naan and it's a feast to die for. They're still working out some kinks in terms of service, but everyone there is sweet and polite. Our new Favorite Indian in Manchester. Food is always a good quality and tasty. When we request "spicy" they do not mess around which is awesome! My husband and I were in Manchester Saturday night and wanted to grab dinner before the show we were going to. We don't know Manchester at all and wanted good food but we were running late so it needed to be fast, so I checked with About Town and they recommended Taj India and I'm so glad they did. We haven't been able to find good Indian food where we live (oh, how we miss Boston!) so we were excited to try it and it was awesome. I have only had experience with indian food from buffets, so luckily I went with a friend more educated than myself. When the first question was "do you like lamb?", I was stoked. After going through the quick look at the menu I went with Lamb Karahi. The service was fine (filled up my water generously, as I need it with spicy foods). Have been to the lunch buffet about a dozen times, and have gotten takeout about six times since they opened and I have been impressed every time. The food is freshly prepared and dishes in the buffet are replenished quickly. The buffet food is lightly spiced, which makes it the perfect place to bring the novice Indian food eater. If you yearn for more spicy, they definitely cater to your needs when you order off the diverse menu. The buffet is a tremendous value, they offer fresh salad mix and 12 hot dishes at least . They always have two desert choices as well. The cuts of chicken they have in the Tikka Masala and Mango Chicken dishes are so tender and clean, they just melt in your mouth. Cooking is done to perfection. Also impressive was the condiment of three chutneys/sauses to dip your bread (naan) into that the waiters bring to your table. Ingredients are so fresh--love the mint chutney (the green sauce) especially. The wait staff was very attentive and even brought a complimentary juice box to my daughter who is two, each time we came. Decor at this downtown restaurant includes upscale looking crystal chandeliers and a clean dining room, adorned with Indian artwork. I only wish they played some soft Indian music for added ambience. I've never had to wait to eat here, but the restaurant has been half to near full each time I've been. A real gem in downtown Manchester. Will go back again and again! read more

We went to Taj last night for the first time. Glad we did! Nice atmosphere; super friendly service. Nice first impression. We started w/ Nan - excellent - warm and fresh out of the oven. The 3 accompanying condiments were great. Then, I had the Chicken Tikka and my husband had another chicken dish. Both delicious. FYI - big portions. Our first time here and we will definitely return. Portions are great for sharing, and all of the dishes are packed with rich flavor. The coconut soup and Dal Shorba soup are delicious. The garlic Naan was a great addition to the meal, and the shrimp madras and chicken makhni are great entrees. read more

This place is fantastic-and not to be missed if you enjoy Indian food. I have only been here once, and hence have only tried the Chicken Tikka Masala and a Naan bread. This one visit however was enough for me to confidently recommend this place to anyone who is looking for some great Indian Cuisine. It wasn't very expensive considering the quality and location of the restaurant either-my meal cost just 20$. The atmosphere inside was great as was the service, and the food came out pretty fast. They also have a lunch buffet which looks and smells wonderful. They offer delivery which, while I can't comment on as I haven't used, costs only $3 and it is a cool and unexpected option for such a nice restaurant, and is always a plus. Loved the lunch buffet!!!! Just opened looks great inside, just went during the week it was very busy around lunch time so not much area to wait in entrance is really the only complaint. The food was very tasty and fresh, not too spicy. It was the perfect variety of options at the buffet for $9 per person you eat very well! Very good food, good buffet at lunch. The only problem at lunch time (at least when I went there) is that the line for the buffet completely overwhelmed the smallish dining area and left the waiters scrambling to get patrons' drinks (they were trying their best, but the line actually obscured some tables. Great food and they customize it as per your needs. I had eaten chicken curry, aloo mutter and chicken tikka masala on the three occasions I have been there. All were good. Liked the chicken curry the most. But the service isn't good. There were only two servers for the entire restaurant. Things may get better though, as it is a young restaurant. read more

This place is awesome. My husband and I were regulars of India Palace, but once we tried Taj, we decided that it's our new go-to place for Indian food. It's always very clean, the staff are always friendly, the food is flavorful and hot and the ingredients are fresh. I'm in LOVE with the food at this place. So far, I've had the pleasure of having the chicken pakora, garlic naan, chicken tikka, shrimp biryani, lamb vindaloo, makhani chicken, chicken madras and the chicken mango. I order my food hot (for spicyness) and it comes out PERFECT every time. Also - they bring these three chutneys over to the table with appetizers (or if you ask, like I always do). They're no charge and consist of one red pepper/onion relish that is VERY hot, a tamarind sauce and a mint chutney. They're all amazing and I use them on everything. We had a couple of friends who wanted to try Indian food for the first time, but were a little overwhelmed by the menu, so they asked us to go with them. We ordered 4 different dishes (plus garlic naan, which is a MUST) and just shared them all. They're total converts and have been back numerous times. In fact, we're headed there for a double-date on Valentine's Day. :) The prices are reasonable, it's clean and the food is awesome - what more could you want? read more

Walked by this place while in Manchester a while back, looked at the menu and we agreed we would need to give a try. Today was that day. When we opened the door, a wave of indian spices smells greeted us, always a good sign. Came for lunch and instead of the Buffet we ordered off the menu. I had the Chicken Korma (mild), he had the Taj Byriani (hot), we split an order of the Punjabi Nan, and got some raita, since Byriani is usually hot. Chicken Korma is my favorite and is always my go to meal on the first trip to an Indian restaurant. If it is good, I trust them. This Korma wasn't just good, it was the best Korma I have ever eaten, and he agreed. The bowl was filled to overflowing, the seasoning was so good, complex and savory and it had lots of big chunks of chicken. His Byriani was very good, although he said it could have been hotter and the serving was huge, big enough for 3 meals for him. The Raita was filled with chunks of cucumber and had none of the bitter aftertaste that some have. It was delicious. The Punjabi Nan, was huge, soft and filled with coconut and I think nuts. It was so good. We ate until we were ready to burst, and still had plenty to bring home! This is a definite redo. The inside of the restaurant is lovely, painted in bright colors and there are numerous crystal chandeliers of varying sizes hanging instead of the usual track lighting. There are numerous indian paintings and prints framed on the wall. It is really quite lovely, which only added to the overall enjoyment of our meal. read more

My husband and I started ordering take-out here a few months ago, and we have become pretty regular customers. Everything we've ordered there has been delicous! Some of our favorites are the Chicken Korma and the Chicken Mughalai, which we usually order along with some naan. The Lamb Curry is tasty as well. I like that for most of their dishes they ask you how spicy you want it, so it varies according to taste. We also have tried the lunch buffet, which I really enjoyed because I got to try several new dishes which I hadn't had before. Now I have some ideas of what to order later! read more
