Traveled for business and ordered takeout via Yelp at the recommendation of my coworkers. Got the Chana Masala with rice, and the dish was hot enough when I picked it up that I even needed to let it cool when I got back to the hotel. The atmosphere of the restaurant itself was clean and vibrant, and had I not been exhausted I definitely would've eaten there! The staff were very friendly. The only con I can think of was that my Chana Masala was a little oily - incredibly delicious!!! But a little oily. Will definitely order again when I'm back in town! read more

Taj India is my favorite Indian restaurant in the area. I've only been for dinner (a few times) so I can't speak to the buffet, but I've been happy every time. From the chutney to the soup to the vegetarian entrees, everything is very good. I won't give it 5 stars because it's not quite at the level of big city Indian restaurants, but it's far and away the best the greater Manchester area has to offer. read more

Not to cast aspersions on Manchester New Hampshire... But this is actually really good Indian food. The service was great, super attentive. This was my first time eating dinner there and I liked it even better than the lunch buffet... Which is pretty darn good. Not surprisingly the entrées were a little more spectacular as they were prepared just for us with the custom level of spice that we requested. Generous portions. Disappointed to see yet another one of our former go to restaurants fall off a cliff. Stopped by tonight after probably two years thanks to the Covid BS and had an all around abysmal experience. The food, which used to be to die for is now mediocre at best. A few HUGE pieces of chicken in our Korma and curry and tiny little portions. I'd estimate no more than 6 ounces of chicken in each dish, and I doubt the total cost to prepare each dish was no more than $3. Menu price? $16. What a joke. Then they completely forget to cook our naan and we were almost done with our meal when it finally showed up. Rather than comp the naan, they provided a second "complimentary" order. What are we going to do with two orders of naan after most of our meal is gone? Then we get the check and they added a surcharge for using a credit card. That may now be legal, but it's a pathetic move by a low class establishment. Cross another restaurant off the list read more

This place has the best Indian Buffet in New England. We live and Boston and have tried all the Indian restaurants. Food is delicious and we like that they change a few dished in their buffet each weekend (we usually only go on the weekend). The chai that comes with the buffet is authentic and spot on. Taj India is the best Indian food that I have ever had. I usually like to get to the curry chicken and the garlic naan. The buffet during the day is a really good way to get to know the different foods and what you are fond of. They offer takeout which we appreciate. We get there take out on a regular basis. I am pretty disappointed how fast this place has gone from "I am excited to eat here!" to "stay away, you can squeeze oil of the buffet food". When they opened, I visited first day and they had good food even for buffet till first week. I ate at lot of places in India and I can say that this is not any way close to how Indian food tastes! I went for the lunch buffet and it was quite tasty. There wasn't a huge selection but pretty much everything was good. The pakora wasn't crispy, perhaps not moving fast enough on the buffet line. They had delicious chai tea in an airpot included as well. My biggest complaint was the place wasn't busy and they didn't clear our dirty plates. Taj has the best Indian food this side of the Pacific. The restaurant is clean and cozy, and the staff is always friendly and helpful. Their chili chicken at the buffet is to die for, and nothing beats their vindaloo. The chai tea is also authentic and spot on, and the prices are surprisingly reasonable. Giving a 3-star because husband it was flavored "ok", and if all the other Indian-restaurant options were closed, it would be "ok", and "it was 'okay' because it wasn't overly salty...... Me? I'd give it a two-star. Didn't care much for the beady-eyed crabby hostess. Manager? Our youngest doesn't like this type of food so we fed him before going to the restaurant. It was very uncomfortable having the hostess/manager constantly monitoring us, craning her neck to see if maybe I was slipping the kid some food. Maybe a piece of the over-cooked chicken? Chicken chicken chicken. At least if that's the ONLY animal protein on the way over-priced $11.95 buffet, how about adding some paneer to the frozen-vegetable-dish dish. Would love to see that dish disappear from all Indian buffets. And was that naan really home-made? Tasted like cardboard-style frozen, reheated. No raita? Suppose we had to pay for that? No refills on water unless you flag someone down? Why were there so few whole spices? Is the start of my headache from packaged msg-loaded spices? Would love to hear from the chef regarding this. Normally we're picking whole spices out of food, when eating at other Indian restaurants. The food had the flavor of packaged spice blends - that usually means MSG, something we don't normally encounter in E. Indian food. I DID appreciate that they have "PLEASE USE CLEAN PLATE FOR REFILLS" (or something to that effect) stenciled on the wall. How many times have you been to a buffet and seen people bringing their filthy plates back up for a refill??? More times than I want to remember.......... Sorry, Husband. I can't do "3". We love indian food! This place was definitely good! The dishes were missing some citrus to break up the cream and the galub jamun was definitely stronger than I have ever had it before but it was still good! Everything was super clean and they had a buffet as well. The rice was perfectly cooked. We went around 2 on a Wednesday afternoon ... no one else was there, tables are a little close together so if it was busy I probably wouldn't of liked that at all. Some of the best Indian food I've ever had! Tikka Masala was incredibly flavorful. The garlic naan was the best I've ever had. Oh and the rice was so good I ate some of it plain (very unlike me). Beware though the food is SPICY. I debated between the medium and hot as most places I'm dissatisfied with the medium level and the waiter recommended I try the medium first. Needs a lot of work. It has potential . But the staff did not impress me. Though kind and can sense an effort. There is something missing . Needs experience management. I really can't see this restaurant staying open for long on elm street if management doesn't step up there game. The ambiance was drab and i did not get a sense that the place was very clean. I never did receive a fork. As for the food... The samosa appetizer was soggy and chewy. On a positive note, the spice was good in the samosa. The entree.. The Chicken tikka masala was good and tasty. Again good spices and flavor.. More chicken portions then there cross town competitor Palace. Other then that, I give this place 2 stars. Not wildly impressed for prime real estate . I might give this place one more shot because I didn't try there naan. If a person is trying to make a decision on Taj or the Palace in Manchester, I would refer the palace on south willow. read more
