My friends and I went out on a recent Saturday night for dinner and was turned away at 3 other local restaurants as we did not have a reservation. We ended up here at Taj India- and glad we did as we had a very nice meal here. The four of us shared the sampler app which was a perfect start to the meal. Taj has been my go-to spot for Indian food in Manchester for years. They have a big menu and everything I've tried has been delicious. The coconut Punjabi naan is my FAV. Everyone who works there is super nice and they are very quick with delivery. To ensure social distancing, my delivery person left the food in front of my door and knocked so I could open it once he'd walked away. They even included plates and utensils in the bag :) read more

The garlic naan was perfect! The right amount of garlic and then cooked to a nice crispy outside and soft inside. The eggplant was also cooked to perfection with the right amount of spices. The sag paneer was a delight and the chicken mulgathai was yummy! We will be back for sure! read more

We headed to Taj India today as we carved for Indian food for the weekend. This place is calm (for the time being) and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. There was the buffet open, but we ordered from the menu and there are a lot of dishes to choose from. We ordered an appetizer called Taj choice of appetizer platter (its the name or may be its similar as far as I can remember ).It was quite plate and the servings were yummy and the fried pakoras, poppadams didn't seemed oily. Which is awesome! And next we ordered a portion of chicken naan and it was too delicate and its filled sparingly with shredded chicken. Bread was filling!! Finally its nothing if you don't order a biryani when you hit an Indian restaurant. The portion was large and sizzling hot! Chicken was nicely cooked,tender and full of flavor. Dressed in cilantro leaves and it was very welcoming!! And I recommend everyone to try /finish their meals by a cup of chai tea. Its creamy very aromatic and calms the spicy gut!! Hospitality was average and it seemed ok... The place is clean,nicely arranged and has the Indian vibe (bright colors,nice chandeliers,Indian paintings depicting Indian way of life and Indian/hindi music in the background) in the elm street! Very bad experience with dinner today. Reached there around 8:30 and ordered a chicken biriyani. I guess they were running short of it and they served me half plate rice and 2 piece of chicken. Even Raita was not served instead gave me cup of curd and onions on side. Upon asked they told thats all they serve. I had also ordered a veg biriyani was full plate ( thats how i knew we were missing some portion of chicken biriyani ) but was horrible in taste and too spicy to eat. Twice we have had issues with other restaurants in Manchester and decided to go to Taj instead -- Once as a couple, and once with all 3 kids. Both times service was great and dinner was very very good. They are unassuming, friendly and the food is really great. The prices make it easy to try multiple dishes and find out what you like. The kids (though young) really enjoyed it, and the restaurant was very welcoming of them even on a Saturday night. What a great addition to Elm St! Fantastic Indian food has finally come to Manchester. I highly recommend the dinner specials they have. You can order them for one or two. Each picks a lamb, chicken, or vegetarian dish. Then you each get dal shorba soup, choice of samosa or onion bhaji, choice of chapaty or garlic nan, and each gets a dessert of the day. Average food with above average attitude from the waiters. The restaurant advertises its closing time as 9:30 PM. However, when we reached there (at 9 PM), the waiter had already started wrapping up stuff and didn't seem very interested in our business. We asked for appetizers and they said the "fire" has been shut down in preparation for closing. We had to literally power through our dinner and in the end they even started "dimming the lights" as a notification for us to leave. I was still working on my Mango lassi and would have finished it in another 5 minutes. However, I was quite irritated by their shenanigans and asked for a to-go cup for the lassi so I can leave the restaurant. Now, in any other restaurant the waiter would have insisted to stay and finish my drink but no such luck here. The waiter brought me the to-go cup and me and my wife left the place - visibly disappointed. This place is great. I have been missing real Indian food since moving to Manchester and I'm super excited about Taj India. It's very clean and comfortable. My first hint that I was in for a great meal was upon delivery of a Mango Lassi, one of the best I've had, with rose water and ground pistachios sprinkled on top. The Paratha and Nan were buttery and perfect. We had the Aloo Tiki (great) Chicken Tikka Masala (fantastic!) and Lamb Vindaloo, spice level hot (so good and perfectly spicy.) Also, ice cold Kingfisher beers. The ingredients were fresh and the food well executed. The service was excellent (my water glass was always full.) The serving sizes were perfect as we ate until we could eat no more and had leftovers for lunch the next day, (and it was awesome.) I'd recommend you give Taj India a try if you're a lover-o-spice. We ordered take-out and had some fish curry with an authentic India appetizer sampler. The curry was hot (our noses were running) and was enough food to split. It's very dense food so be prepared to feel like you ate a rock. The service, location, and staff are all good here. Went out with my boyfriend the Sunday after Valentines, during the snow storm. NOBODY was in the restaurant, which was a pleasant surprise because it's ALWAYS busy when we want to go. We got the Samosas and Garlic Nan for apps, Lamb Curry and Chicken Korma for dinner and Kheer (rice pudding) for dessert. The food was soooo good, we kept shoveling it in! The lamb was falling apart and the chicken was very juicy. Both dishes come with one healthy serving of rice. The Nan was a bit thicker than what I've had before, but that wasn't a problem; it was insanely flavorful! I also got their Masala Tea which was THE MOST DELICIOUS DRINK I HAVE EVER HAD. A few weeks ago we stopped into taj for a meal with 2 colleagues from the uk. We ordered a variety of dishes, samosa, onion bhaji, chicken curry, chicken tikka masala, lamb korma and a biryani. All were fantastic and spiced perfectly. Portions were plentiful so we could all share and try each other's. The naan bread was fantastic, peshwari, plain and garlic. Tried their buffet last week. I was glad to know that they have buffet at noon M-Su, and at a very reasonable price. I always thought lunch buffet was M-F thing. For the buffet, they have several dishes on chicken and vegetables, with rice pudding and naan. I tried all the dishes and they were all very tasteful. Love it. Service is good too. My water was filled very promptly. The only thing I was not very comfortable with was that it's kinda of hard to fit the delicious rice pudding into the plate provided. The plates beside the rice pudding were kinda shallow and thus on my way back to my seats the pudding almost got to my hands. There were cups beside the pudding too, but the spoon was larger than the top of the cup, so I had no idea how to fit pudding into the cup. Everything else was perfect. We were visiting Manchester and went to this restaurant because of the reviews. We couldn't have been more surprised. We were a family of 4, with 2 kids 5 and 2 yrs old. The customer service was bad. They did not have any consideration about the kids to provide any water quicker. When we ordered the food, they provided the naan long before the food came in. Went for lunch buffet today as this was a restaurant we always loved. Not sure what happened but the quality has diminished. First, the advertised lunch time is until 3 PM. There is a lunch buffet. We walked in at 1:35 and the waiter rushed to tell us that the buffet would be removed at 2. We were taken aback but assured him we were fine with that. We were seated at a nice table and went to the buffet. The food looked tired and two containers were empty, but there was enough for us so filled a plate. What was odd was that there were NO chutneys or Raita. We asked for raita- and it was an extra $3, which we only noticed when we received the bill! The rice pudding was Ok but tasted as if it might be canned. The Chai was good. The food was tasty and the garlic naan was fabulous. But the waiter was attentive and joking, trying to be pleasant but it became irritating. He did offer, at 1:55 to have a new entree brought to us but we were almost done, and the buffet was being pulled apart by staff- so we declined. We wondered later if we would have been charged more if we had said yes. Hmmmm. Bathroom was dreary and toilet seat was broken- needs paint and a good cleaning. We are disappointed. It seems like there are no more truly great Indian restaurants in south central NH. This was one of them but is no more. read more

This is one of most authentic Indian restaurants in Manchester and Southern NH. I lived in London where the Indian food is amazing. Also the delivery was prompt and free within 3 miles of the restaurant. The Tiki Masala was perfect and very tasty, which is why Tiki Masala has surpassed fish and chips in England as the most popular late night and take out food in the country . This place is awesome! We have had dinner here 5 or 6 times in the last few months and we love it. We are always so pleased with our dinners and the ambiance is lovely. I have tried to get my fiancé to branch out from his chicken tikka masala, but it's his favorite dish and he loves it here. I have thoroughly enjoyed the lamb saag, lamb curry, and the taj biryani (chicken, shrimp, and lamb) as well as the veggie sambosas and the naan. Oh naan... so delicious. The service is always courteous and fast, the prices are great. It's the only place we can go out for dinner and leave for less than $50; although we don't generally drink alcohol at Indian restaurants. This is the best Indian food I've had in New England. It's consistently very good. It makes us sad that it appears so empty all the time. This place needs to stay open forever, so let's start telling our friends! As far as the buffet reviews I've read - I cannot comment. I haven't had their buffet. If it's greasy, it's probably because the food is sitting in a steam table for extended periods of time and that make the grease float to the top.
