The new owners are amazing and very polite. We ordered a lot of dishes for appetizers and main course and we loved everything. The Crispy cauliflower, dal tadkha were my favorite. Our group also ordered tandoori chicken and loved the flavor. Would definitely recommend trying this place if you looking for authentic Indian food. read more

We had a minute before finding this place tucked away in the corner of a small strip mall, but we're so glad we did. We went for lunch ... you should too. Take your time though, and if you're in a hurry just order ahead for take out, or to make sure it's ready when you are. Good food takes time, people. Service was impeccable and the food was some of the best Indian Food I've had in years. I had the Chicken Biryani (there was so much I had the rest later for dinner) and my husband had the Chicken Tikka Masala ... also quite a bit of food. We topped it off with the good ol' garlic naan that really is GOOD, and two mango lassi that were the real deal. The flavors were incredible, and I'm always a little scared to ask for "mild" but it was. My husband got "medium" so I could really tell the difference in the heat. They do pay attention. And yeah, so the floor was a little sticky by the bathroom, and we did wait for about 25 minutes for the food (totally worth it ... by the way). It's our new favorite place. read more

We ordered takeout from this new restaurant, so I cannot comment on the ambiance or the table service, but the people who took our orders were nice enough. My meal ok, but nothing beyond that. It was under salted and under spiced, and generally flavorless. I had requested it to be hot, and indeed it was, so good marks on the hot peppers. But the taste was just not there. Portions were generous, with a lot of rice in addition to the curry. There's better, tastier options around. I hope that they will improve. read more

I don't usually write negative reviews, but I am pretty upset that I paid 20 dollars for this dish. Maybe I also set the bar too high, I have been hunting for a Malai Tikka dish ever since I stayed in Japan, but this was not it. It was dry, overcooked, tough, and bland. My wife got the butter chicken, which was substantially better. The garlic butter naan just wound up being a soggy mess. I would stick to the curries from what I can tell. I also picked up instead of dining in, maybe effected it slightly, but overall not too impressed. read more

Service is and has always been awesome. They are so polite and courteous. The place is new and very clean. No fuss no muss. Fourth time here and loved the food every single time. Working my way through the menu and have not been disappointed. Food is so delicious and the prices are very reasonable. Must try the garlic naan. Went tonight and dined in. We were the only diners there during our meal, though someone came in to pick up a delivery at one point. Staff were kind and very attentive. We tried the chicken tikka masala and chicken coconut kurma with garlic naan, both curries were good and had optional spice levels. I ordered the taj lime drink but didn't enjoy it. Overall was decent, the Naan was fantastic, and the texture of the basmati rice was done right, but the chicken Tikka masala lacked flavor. I got a mild and there wasn't any heat at all. I would also recommend adding more tomato as it lacked the base tomato flavor. Outside of the service was great the were even understanding to my situation allowing me to leave for 10 minutes and come back mid meal. Overall I would definitely come back. read more

Just ate dinner at the Taj Mahal in Poulsbo. This is our third or fourth time going. We have only had good experiences here. The food is always delicious and flavorful. My husbands go to is the chicken saag. I had the chicken tikka masala. I would encourage everyone to give this place a try. The staff are so friendly, the food comes to the table hot and quickly. Don't let the exterior scare you away. The restaurant is clean and well kempt. read more

We went in with high hopes since we had seen so many positive reviews, but unfortunately, we were disappointed. The dishes that we tried were very bland and lackluster. I order one to two stars spice at the most, my husband likes to burn his tastebuds off so we tried both sides of the heat spectrum, and both held the same lack of flavor. Which is saying a lot since my husband is English... ;-) We ordered the pineapple chicken, aloo mattar, paneer masala, veg pakora, veg samosa, peshwari and garlic naan. The naan was the only thing on point, hence the two star rating. We frequent Punjab and Namaste in Poulsbo which offer very different flavors, I cannot say we'll be back to Taj Mahal. We really enjoyed the service. Indian food is supposed to be spicy but they know this is Poulsbo and the demographic can't quite handle it. However, we wanted our dish spicy and asked for chili for the table. They insisted on adding the spiciness into the dish themselves so the flavors were right. They were right, adding spice table side is different compared to spice being worked into a dish in the kitchen. We truly appreciated the staff, their genuine willingness to help, and truly enjoyed the experience. read more

I was excited to give this new restaurant a try. I ordered my favorite dish, chicken korma and it just tasted like tomato sauce . I was disappointed and really wanted to like this place. Inside seating wasn't available due to sewer issues so we ordered to go. The food was quite nice and the young man at the register was very pleasant and helpful. He was giving a 20% discount to make up for only take away ordering. Nice gesture, thank you! All of the food was tasty and fresh, I look forward to the next visit and the chance to sample some of the ice creams offered. This was an awesome experience. What made my experience an awesome you may ask..... the butter chicken was awesome, and the mango lassi was soooo delicious. The mint chutney was great. I will definitely be back to try more! Great service and great people. We have been here twice, service is great, and the food is amazing. I had the saag paneer, my bf had the chicken curry. I noticed another comment on here about not enough salt, but I thought it was perfect and honestly more authentic than the average overly salted Americanized versions. The garlic naan is amazing as well! Spice was good, my mild order was enough to just barely taste but not enough to burn even a child's taste buds. My bfs hot order was not burning hot but hay enough for a little sizzle, and if you want extra hot they're always offering hot sauce or to add more spice when cooking it to compensate! read more

We took family up from San Diego to Taj Mahal this evening. It was our first time there. What a treat! The pakoras were fantastic. Our vegetarian entrees were great. The sweet naan and chai were just right. I tried a sip of a lime drink that was wonderful. The servers were very attentive, informative and fun. And patient when we changed our minds about an order. I was impressed with the level of service. I was glad to see so many people there at such an early hour (5:45). Although the space isn't terribly large, it did not feel crowded at all. This was our first time here and this place is easy to miss being tucked in the corner of a run down looking strip mall. Don't let that deter you from trying Taj Mahal, the interior is a different story. It was clean, spacious with beautiful Indian inspired decor. There was one other couple in the restaurant but we were greeted immediately and given menus to look over for our take away selections (a very gracious host). Our standard is chicken tikka masala and lamb biriyani so we with that. While waiting we were offered water which is a very nice touch. The food smelled great on the drive home and we couldn't wait to dive in. The chicken masala had a very red sauce, not what I'm used to but it was delicious. I especially appreciated the way the chicken looked/tasted like it was cooked in a tandoori oven, not such chicken slices thrown into the sauce. We asked for medium spice and it had some heat but I probably will request medium/hot next time. The lamb biriyani was also more colorful than I'm used to, not the typical yellow looking rice with chunks of lamb. This dish had a vibrant look and taste that we throughly enjoyed. And, did I mention the portions are generous too? We definitely go back and highly recommend Taj Mahal!!! read more

Don't let the parking, and seating area turn you off - the food and service more than make up for what the rest lacks. This is a new restaurant and it's apparent that they're still trying to get things going but the food was very good and our server was extremely generous and helpful. If you go and have to park in the "upper parking lot", don't let that be a reason for not giving it a try. We were worried when we parked in the upper lot and went inside but we left very satisfied and looking forward to going back soon. read more
