    Alaskan Amber
    Stephen W.

We went here for lunch on a gorgeous day in Poulsbo. The 3 star rating is somewhat curious given the fact that we had an excellent experience. We sat outside because the weather was perfect. I had the fish and chips with cod and onions rings. The cod was fresh and had no fishy taste or smell. The fish was not overly battered. it was cooked perfectly. The onion rings used real onions, not minced. They were excellent. The Cole slaw was sweet with raisins and was excellent. The portion was very generous and I was absolutely stuffed by the time I finished everything. The wife had fish tacos with halibut and loved them. The halibut was fresh and had no fishy smell or taste. She got 3 large tacos in flour tortillas. She could eat only 2. The kid had kid's version of fish and chips and liked it! She ate all her cod and most of the chips (fries). My Alaska Amber was perfect pairing with cod. Our server Angelli was professional and friendly. Prices were reasonable for our fish dishes. I mean, fresh good quality fish is not cheap. Overall, we had a great experience and it was an easy 5 stars.

Yesterday, while in Algona, hubby wanted Fish & Chips for dinner. Instead, we had ribs! So, while in Poulsbo, I said: let's have some seafood for lunch. As we drove around for parking, I spotted that looks appealing, places to eat outside. We parked. We walked. Then we spotted: somewhere in a busy construction site-sidewalk, JJ's Fish House. We didn't know exactly how to get inside. Hubby did checked them out on YELP first, and it was 4 stars. We went for it! I found a shaded seat, outside, since the inside was packed. Usually, I would have picked the inside, since we're having heat wave, but this time "shaded, with a touch of wind' is more my kind of environment! We were shaded all through our meal! Our waiter was quite prompt and friendly and took our order right away and came back out and checked how we're doing. For our 51st Anniversary, surprised us with a slice of Tiramisu, with a 'touch of Norway!' Thank you! We ordered a Salmon Rice Bowl, which came with a plate of spinach and sides of cucumber slices, brown rice, and nicely cooked salmon. Very very good, it was even better for my lunch the next day. (We have a cooler, that kept cold even hours later). We also ordered Lobster Roll, Onion Rings & Clam Chowder. The chowder, was thick and full of clams. In my life, I think this is the BEST ever clam chowder, even the Oregon Coast can't have it this good! Hubby agrees with me! I'm talking 5 decades of know-how on clams! The lobster roll was 'excellent', almost as good as something you'd buy in New England or Maine. The restroom could be improved, a bit dirty! Construction was going on, it spoiled the view, but we didn't care. Our parked car was just over there, and we were able to go back, put our leftovers and venture on. All in all, I didn't mind the view, and people watched, and I'm not complaining about the heat, hubby got me his 'neck cooler' using my leftover water, wet it, wrapped around my neck, and my umbrella kept me happy and cool the rest of the day, plus my neck fan. Happy as a clam, indeedy! BTW: I influenced two female (my age and older?) to sit in the shade, across from us. It's pleasant out here! After going inside and see how packed it was, they DID came back, to sit where I pointed out. We were conversing from across tables. When I went to use the restroom, I stopped to converse more, but I think . . . they wanted to ask more about my neck fan. I think, since today's my mom's 7th year anniversary of going to heaven, she's the miracle lady that showed up today, of all days! No matter, it was a pleasant conversation.

We came to JJ's Fish House as a party of six over a holiday weekend and had such a great experience. Even with the crowds, we were seated right away and the service was on point the entire time--friendly, attentive, and always checking in without hovering. Everyone at our table loved their meal, and my clam chowder in a bread bowl was absolutely to die for--rich, creamy, packed with flavor, and the bread bowl was perfectly toasted. Exactly what you want from a seaside spot like this. Will absolutely be back next time we're in town!

It just wasn't great. We ordered shrimp tacos, and the fish and chips. The tacos were super stuffed, and were eating lettuce. The shrimp was a decent size but was lost in the taco. I thought they were spicy so that's a turn off for me. I believe it was a spicy mayo or chipotle mayo. Fish and chips was just okay from the person who ate it. Share the portions are huge! Server was friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Stars are not based on her service. We came close to closing so the ambiance was quiet. Especially for a Friday night in Poulsbo.

Fish and Chips, Cod was nicely battered and moist inside. The portion size was good. French fries were nice and crispy. The mussels were okay, a little under seasoned. But mussel meat weee tender and broth briny and clean tasting. Service was quick, efficient and friendly. Space is airy And a nice view looking out onto the waterfront. Solid food and great restaurant vibe.

JJ's Fish House is located at the Historic downtown waterfront. The restaurant is facing the water, lots of table to choose from, from outdoor to indoor. There are lots of food to choose from. We ordered 3 piece cod fish and chips. Also ordered the mussels in broth with fries and garlic bread. They were good and generous servings. Fish was big and cooked well. The mussels were good but a little more flavor would have made it excellent. But it was cooked well not gummy at all. Very good size and texture. It was a very busy lunch because weather was perfect. Lots of people yet the servers were good and able to take care of all the tables Perfect ambiance. Would come back anytime.

JJ's Fish House Review -- Soup-seeker edition I came into JJ's Fish House absolutely dying for some soup -- the kind you wrap your hands around and instantly feel revived. What I got was... good, flavorful, and very robust, but it definitely leaned more "seafood stew" than "cioppino." It was thick, almost too thick, and missing the broth I was craving. And just to be honest, what arrived at my table looked nothing like the cioppino photo featured on their website. Don't get me wrong: the taste was solid, the seafood was fresh, and I still ate every bite. I just wanted that warm, soupy comfort I'd been dreaming of, especially on a cold day. What really threw me off, though, was the customer service. For the prices here, I expected a bit more warmth -- maybe even a smile that traveled all the way to the eyes. Instead, walking in felt like I'd interrupted a group of friends mid-hangout. They offered water and did the basics, but there was no genuine greeting, no eye contact, and no real engagement when taking my order. The kind of stuff that makes a meal feel welcoming was noticeably absent. Bottom line: The food tasted good, but the experience could be so much better with a little more hospitality... and a lot more broth.

This is exactly how I imagined a local fish house should be--laid-back, welcoming, and right on the water. Tucked in the heart of downtown Poulsbo, WA--a charming little "Viking" town--this spot nails the coastal vibe with friendly service and plenty of patio seating overlooking the marina. The seafood here is clearly fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Nothing was over-seasoned or masked--just simple, clean flavors that let the ingredients shine. The fish and chips were a standout: thick, crispy pieces of halibut, perfectly golden and generously portioned. The mussels were another highlight--tender, not rubbery, and served in a rich, flavorful broth that was good enough to drink. And of course, local oysters--super fresh and briny. How can anyone say no? If you're in town and craving seafood with a view, this place is a must. Casual, cozy, and exactly what a good fish house should be.

Great happy hour and ample seating inside and out. Popped in for a quick bit, two fish tacos, a wedge salad and garlic fries, a Bodhizafa beer and a Diet Coke. Food was great as was the service. I would image it would be crowded in the summer but coming in mid week on the shoulder season was a breeze

2 piece Halibut fish and chips
    Chadie G.

First time to the area and needed some lunch, this place was packed on a Tuesday afternoon. Ample seating for small or larger groups. Pet friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed the citrus salad. The Alfredo pasta with shrimp (extra Alfredo sauce) was delicious; hefty portion enough for two people. The 2 piece fish and chips was giving!!!! The half shell oysters were very thick and creamy... not a favorite for me. Clam chowder had a very heavy hand of herbs so It almost didn't taste like clam chowder. Over all great service from Brandon! He was all over the place!

Halibut and chips. Excellent and huge!

We loved JJ's! Went on a busy summer weekend with the craft fair going on. It was packed but we waited under 10 minutes for a table. Really nice outdoor patio area with shade and lots of dogs. Perfect! The beer selection is great. I like that there are some local Kitsap options. Enjoyed trying these beers. The fish and chips (halibut of course) was fantastic! Nice beer batter, perfectly cooked, and the pieces were HUGE. I got the three piece thinking they'd be small like most places, but we could have easily split this. We had the coconut shrimp as an appetizer and it was also fantastic. This dish is often overcooked, but not here. Tender shrimp with a nice coconut crust. Best I've had in a long while. Another customer we talked to raved about the salmon and chips, just to throw that in there. Great service, beer, and food. Will go back for sure!

This review will be a bit long, but I feel it's important to acknowledge when businesses go well above and beyond... into orbit in this case. Not only did they work to exceed expectations, but to set the ultimate standard for customer service and to demonstrate a commitment to caring for people beyond the customer-business relationship. This post is also a message both as an endorsement for diners, but also an advisory to every other business in this county. Take note - this is a roadmap for how you win forever customers: Last Saturday, my daughter got married in Poulsbo, in a ceremony that involved guests from Alaska, California, and Colorado. On the Sunday morning afterward, my wife Gayle and I threw a brunch celebration for our out of town guests as a thank you for making the journey for our daughter's special day. We made the reservation back in February in order to ensure they would have room for 20+ guests. At some point between then and now, Sully's decided to stop serving brunch. We didn't need to be their problem. It would have been easy to call or email us and let us know that our plans would have to change... with sincere apologies and an explanation as to why - blah blah blah, and with enough notice to get a reservation elsewhere, maybe. They didn't. In fact, they didn't even tell us they'd stopped brunch service. Some of our guests were calling us and asking: "Hey, Google says they're closed. Are you sure about this?" We didn't know, but figured we'd show up and find out. Instead, Sully's made sure to have enough staff a few hours early on Sunday, enough food, broke out the old brunch recipe book and dusted it off, and cleared the patio and set it up. All of that work just to ensure our guests had brunch. And a fabulous time. This was solely for our benefit. They weren't going to make a lot of money on just our party. Truth be told, they might have even lost some on it. They could have just shrugged us off. But they honored their commitment, even though it was a hassle, and a lot of extra work. Even though it meant knowing they'd have to special order food just for us, even though it meant more expense. And - not to belabor the point - they trusted US to honor *our* agreement to come. They hadn't taken a deposit. We could have ghosted them, especially if we'd believed Google's page saying they were closed. After all, we were strangers to them. But they treated us like family. And then... ...they crushed it with the food, the drinks, the service. They setup a special U-shaped table, complete with linens and flowers, and showcased a view of the Duwamish Sea that is unmatched in Kitsap County dining. I'd list all the food items and give a review - each one a culinary gem. But that would be cruel. I'd be bragging about food we had that won't be available to the community at large again (unless they bring back brunch... pretty please). No, what I wanted to call out was how deeply touched my wife and I were at their willingness to honor their promise, our reservation, and then go the extra mile to make it special. They didn't have to. But they did. And our guests were incredibly impressed, both with the food and the service. Thank you, with our whole heart, to the people of Sully's... from the owner on down to the staff. You made our day so very special. And while they may not serve brunch anymore... I urge you to go there for lunch or dinner. Support a restaurant that demonstrates loves for its community through its actions, not just words or fancy FB posts. And get the wings! (My personal fave) You won't regret it. Cheers to you, Sully's! We'll be diners with you for life.

Just the right amount of heat for me, but probably not for folks who are sensitive to hot foods. Had the Chile de Arbol on the chicken, and it went really nicely with that. Never experienced anything like this before. You want great tacos and birria? Go to Jessicas Taqueria in Silverdale. Her business hours are legitimate and won't refuse service because of laziness. My husband and I came here last evening craving for some tacos. Growing up in the bay area in Cali, tacos are a huge hit and I can definitely say a small place like this in Washington really did their thing. Tacos were good. The birria tacos were okay but definitely were a little dry and definitely could've had more meat and cheese. The consomme was very bland so dipping the birria tacos in it didn't really make the tacos taste any better. Burrito was okay however, it was very flat. Flavor was definitely there and was really tasty. I just wish there were more ingredients added. Honestly it felt like I was eating a quesadilla rather than a burrito. My husband had cocktail which he liked very much and I had horchata. Horchata was good but a tad bit grainy. Our server was very nice! Service definitely was great. We were served our food very fast and even then the food was HOT! This spot is very compact and intimate. Would not recommend for larger parties 4+. All in all tacos were the star of the show. Would return just for the tacos only and horchata.
