They were so kind and gave her treats and water. We definitely have gluten-free and dairy free absolutely delicious. If you have trouble with spice, you might want to double check with that. We had a large group with 3 children, staff was very accommodating and food was quick. We sat outside, which was very nice especially with the view. The patio is pretty on a nice, sunny day, but that's it. We were greeted by the host, then taken to a table that had a dirty dish bin on it. They removed the bin, but didn't wipe down the table - so unsanitary. I was facing the host stand and saw they did not have a stellar health inspection rating. Someone brought over waters and the cup was filthy. At this point, it was just too much. Our party did not feel comfortable eating seafood here with so many red flags. I will just cut to the chase, the best fish tacos in town period. Everyone says that and honestly I can make better ones at home 99% of the time. However, that's not the case with JJ, they are really big and you could probably share, super tasty and just awesome. We went here for lunch on a gorgeous day in Poulsbo. The 3 star rating is somewhat curious given the fact that we had an excellent experience. We sat outside because the weather was perfect. I had the fish and chips with cod and onions rings. The cod was fresh and had no fishy taste or smell. The fish was not overly battered. it was cooked perfectly. The onion rings used real onions, not minced. They were excellent. The Cole slaw was sweet with raisins and was excellent. The portion was very generous and I was absolutely stuffed by the time I finished everything. The wife had fish tacos with halibut and loved them. The halibut was fresh and had no fishy smell or taste. She got 3 large tacos in flour tortillas. She could eat only 2. The kid had kid's version of fish and chips and liked it! She ate all her cod and most of the chips (fries). My Alaska Amber was perfect pairing with cod. Our server Angelli was professional and friendly. Prices were reasonable for our fish dishes. Yesterday, while in Algona, hubby wanted Fish & Chips for dinner. Instead, we had ribs! So, while in Poulsbo, I said: let's have some seafood for lunch. As we drove around for parking, I spotted that looks appealing, places to eat outside. We parked. We walked. Then we spotted: somewhere in a busy construction site-sidewalk, JJ's Fish House. We didn't know exactly how to get inside. Hubby did checked them out on YELP first, and it was 4 stars. We went for it! I found a shaded seat, outside, since the inside was packed. Usually, I would have picked the inside, since we're having heat wave, but this time "shaded, with a touch of wind' is more my kind of environment! We were shaded all through our meal! Our waiter was quite prompt and friendly and took our order right away and came back out and checked how we're doing. For our 51st Anniversary, surprised us with a slice of Tiramisu, with a 'touch of Norway!' Thank you! We ordered a Salmon Rice Bowl, which came with a plate of spinach and sides of cucumber slices, brown rice, and nicely cooked salmon. Very very good, it was even better for my lunch the next day. (We have a cooler, that kept cold even hours later). We also ordered Lobster Roll, Onion Rings & Clam Chowder. The chowder, was thick and full of clams. In my life, I think this is the BEST ever clam chowder, even the Oregon Coast can't have it this good! Hubby agrees with me! I'm talking 5 decades of know-how on clams! The lobster roll was 'excellent', almost as good as something you'd buy in New England or Maine. The restroom could be improved, a bit dirty! Construction was going on, it spoiled the view, but we didn't care. Our parked car was just over there, and we were able to go back, put our leftovers and venture on. All in all, I didn't mind the view, and people watched, and I'm not complaining about the heat, hubby got me his 'neck cooler' using my leftover water, wet it, wrapped around my neck, and my umbrella kept me happy and cool the rest of the day, plus my neck fan. Happy as a clam, indeedy! BTW: I influenced two female (my age and older?) to sit in the shade, across from us. It's pleasant out here! After going inside and see how packed it was, they DID came back, to sit where I pointed out. We were conversing from across tables. When I went to use the restroom, I stopped to converse more, but I think . . . they wanted to ask more about my neck fan. I think, since today's my mom's 7th year anniversary of going to heaven, she's the miracle lady that showed up today, of all days! No matter, it was a pleasant conversation. read more

We came to JJ's Fish House as a party of six over a holiday weekend and had such a great experience. Even with the crowds, we were seated right away and the service was on point the entire time--friendly, attentive, and always checking in without hovering. Everyone at our table loved their meal, and my clam chowder in a bread bowl was absolutely to die for--rich, creamy, packed with flavor, and the bread bowl was perfectly toasted. It just wasn't great. We ordered shrimp tacos, and the fish and chips. The tacos were super stuffed, and were eating lettuce. The shrimp was a decent size but was lost in the taco. I thought they were spicy so that's a turn off for me. I believe it was a spicy mayo or chipotle mayo. Fish and chips was just okay from the person who ate it. Share the portions are huge! JJ's Fish House is located at the Historic downtown waterfront. The restaurant is facing the water, lots of table to choose from, from outdoor to indoor. There are lots of food to choose from. We ordered 3 piece cod fish and chips. Also ordered the mussels in broth with fries and garlic bread. They were good and generous servings. Fish was big and cooked well. The mussels were good but a little more flavor would have made it excellent. But it was cooked well not gummy at all. Very good size and texture. It was a very busy lunch because weather was perfect. Was doing touristy things in Poulsbo with my mom and my better half on a chilly, drippy, miserable day recently and wanted something simple, but tasty to fill the hole in my belly monster. I wasn't even expecting the food to be anything more than filler, so I asked our lovely server to recommend their best dishes. When a server tells you the unvarnished truth about what's good and not-so-good on the menu (Do you know how rare that is?!), you should listen. We walked out without ordering from JJ's FISH HOUSE today after viewing their absolutely EXORBITANT prices on the menu. A bowl of clam chowder $21, cioppino $38, even a bowl of macaroni & cheese with salmon $36. The servers were polite, the atmosphere on the patio would have been enjoyable, but the "Seattle level" prices felt like a complete slap in our faces! Clearly, JJ's has chosen to cater to Poulsbo tourists, not to locals like us who used to--repeat--USED TO frequent their restaurant. It's a shame, because their food is very good, but their shocking prices make JJ's Fish House a disappointment, not an asset, to the community. read more

First time to the area and needed some lunch, this place was packed on a Tuesday afternoon. Ample seating for small or larger groups. Pet friendly. Thoroughly enjoyed the citrus salad. The Alfredo pasta with shrimp (extra Alfredo sauce) was delicious; hefty portion enough for two people. The 2 piece fish and chips was giving!!!! The half shell oysters were very thick and creamy... not a favorite for me. Clam chowder had a very heavy hand of herbs so It almost didn't taste like clam chowder. My husband got food poisoning from eating there. We're positive that this was it, because we hadn't eaten anything else all day. His fish also tasted both overcooked and... off. Why on earth he didn't send it back, I will never know. But there we are. He got sick for the better part of two days. I had a salad with crab meat and it was very good. Fresh greens, with a small amount of crab but enough for me. It did cost $30, however! Service was languid, but the waitress was nice enough. Don't come if you are in a hurry. We loved JJ's! Went on a busy summer weekend with the craft fair going on. It was packed but we waited under 10 minutes for a table. Really nice outdoor patio area with shade and lots of dogs. Perfect! The beer selection is great. I like that there are some local Kitsap options. Enjoyed trying these beers. The fish and chips (halibut of course) was fantastic! Nice beer batter, perfectly cooked, and the pieces were HUGE. I got the three piece thinking they'd be small like most places, but we could have easily split this. We had the coconut shrimp as an appetizer and it was also fantastic. This dish is often overcooked, but not here. Tender shrimp with a nice coconut crust. Best I've had in a long while. Another customer we talked to raved about the salmon and chips, just to throw that in there. Great service, beer, and food. Will go back for sure! read more

Decided to try JJ's out today while in Poulsbo. Restaurant is cute. The tables were clean and restaurant presentable. Is it fancy, no. Using the restroom before sitting g wasn't the best idea. It's gross. It set my mood for the rest of the lunch. I read some reviews earlier and saw there are new owners. I feel they missed something by not replacing, repairing, just flat out cleaning the bathroom. The food was decent. I ordered the wedge salad (they didn't use tomatoes), with a cup of JJ's chowder. My son got the 3 piece cod fish n chips. It was fresh and good. It was a lot. The fries were okay. I don't think I would recommend it unless someone specifically asked for fish n chips. Note-New Owners*** JJ's was a family favorite for us, but with the new ownership our visit was very disappointing... Gone is the warm sourdough bread brought table side as soon as you sit down, along with the great service. Since we were celebrating a special occasion, our group of four sat outside in the beautiful sunshine, and enjoying the waterfront view. The special was fresh lobster rolls. This is a treat as we have celebrated birthdays in New England with lobster rolls, so it felt like home. It was a disappointment as the rolls were not fresh lobster as advertised, and had way too much mayo. For the price (@$30 each), it was not the experience we were hoping for. read more

5/5/26 best meal I have had in Kitsap County in 2 years. Fresh oysters on half-shell were amazing, big, fresh, flavorful and points for serving with fresh horseradish. As a 29-year resident of Poulsbo, our original experience with JJ's many years ago was not good. Our negative impression of the food, service and atmosphere was echoed by many locals. That has changed since a change in ownership. Our dinner tonight reflected the dramatic improvement the change in ownership has produced. My Dungeness Crab sandwich featured a generous portion of a tasty crab salad mixture on a fresh croissant. My wife's fish and chips featured a golden tempura style batter covering two tender portions of cod. Service was prompt and friendly. Patio seating offered a nice view of Liberty Bay. Had lunch at JJ's and were very pleased with the food. Crab cakes were mostly crab (yay!) and the tartar sauce was delicious. Hubby had a salad with a big portion of salmon, which was cooked perfectly. He had to give me some of his salmon to share, there was so much...yum! Hubby ordered a chocolate milkshake, but the server didn't hear when he ordered it. After acknowledging the mistake, you could hear the shake being made and it arrived promptly. Real deal milkshake, and it was delicious! Had to remove a star because the bathroom needed serious attention, enough that I chose to pass on my opportunity. Went all the way out there from Everett and it did not disappoint! Award winning clam chowder and fish (cod) and chips blew me out of the water. Amazing food!! Already explained in each photo. Great vibes! Great atmosphere!! Wonderful server! We came from Kent WA to celebrate my husband birthday. We just chose this town due to history of Norway plus he is fan of history. We looked it up on yelp and find this place. We had to wait for an hour to open so we took a nice stroll and sat on bench across the place to the bay view. Gorgeous! When the place is open at 11 am, we came in to sit. The menu looks sooo goood! Once we ordered food. Each tasted so delicious!! My husband was very happy that he chose this place so he enjoyed his view towards the window for people and the bay park. The server was so wonderful. We were visiting the area for the first time and looking for a seafood restaurant. This was recommended. It was close to the water and the ambiance was nice inside the restaurant. There was construction in the facility so a little noisy. I ordered cioppino which is my favorite. It was hearty and delicious. My husband ordered the fish taco. We stopped by for lunch and sat in the patio with our dog. The waitress was friendly and she was doing her best waiting on multiple tables. We ordered the, oyster Shooter, the cod fish and chips, the clam chowder, and the steamed clams. The fish and chips lacked seasoning and was not fresh and hot when we got it. The fries with the chips taste great. The clam chowder ($20) was amazing. It had plenty of fresh clams, hearty potatoes and bacon with cream.
