Ceviche Mixto and Papa a la Huancaiana
    Shanina L.

I was missing the food from my trip to Peru, so I decided to satisfy that craving at this place. Overall, my cravings were satisfied and I was happy with the whole experience. The restaurant even reminded me of the feel of restaurant in Peru, it felt authentic. They have amazing Lomo Saltado, which had the perfectly cooked filet mignon, juicy tomatoes and had the right amount of sauce. The ceviche was exactly what I was expecting based on all the ceviche I ate in Peru. I love that it was sweet potato on the side to balance the flavors of the dish. I'm usually picky with the sauce for the Papa a la Huancaina but this place had the texture and flavors I was looking for. We ended our meal with picarones, which I highly recommend. It came out hot and fresh! To top it all of, the server was friendly and always smiling. We felt at home. Parking was super easy since they have a parking lot beside the restaurant. I will be back when I have a Peruvian cravings again.

Just finished eating here. Can never go wrong with Lomo Saltado mixto (shrimp, chicken, and steak). It is a little pricey. For a plate and drink, it did come out to $30. However, I devoured the plate. Service was great. The cashier/server was chill and had no problems.

Food took a really long time to arrive, so me and my husband had to eat in rush (we were in our lunch break) - so people who don't have much time, watch out. The lomo saltado was impeccable, every item of the dish was well seasoned, even the regular rice. The ceviche came in a big portion, but the sauce was too lemony to my taste, maybe it would be better as an appetizer. But it was really tasty and fresh. Solid Peruvian experience.

Food is a bit overpriced but good. HOWEVER we went for breakfast because the website said they had a breakfast menu...and they didn't have any of the items except for tamales. Also they serve you tamale and don't give you bread/don't offer bread during breakfast at all. If you're Peruvian you know tamale and bread together are a MUST! Please don't mislead customers and remove the breakfast menu from your site if you aren't offering it. Such a shame too because that breakfast menu looks good!

Great flavors. Ceviche mixto is fire. Wood burning oven for the best Pollo a la Brasa you'll ever have. The manager is very upbeat and always happy to help! Family owned for over 15 years. Highly recommended!

First time, incredible. Second time, after the expansion of the restaurant, food was nauseating.

The ordering process was quick and easy, and my food was ready right on time when I arrived. I was in and out with no hassle, which I really appreciated. The tacos were delicious -- the pineapple added the perfect touch of sweetness that balanced so well with the savory flavors. The sauces were also amazing and really brought everything together. Each bite had a great mix of flavor and freshness. If you're looking for a tasty and affordable Taco Tuesday option, this online special is definitely worth it. I'll absolutely be ordering again!

I got a whole chicken with the sides and I decided to try the Peruvian ceviche. The chicken was good, seasoning was there. It was already precut for me so that's was kind. I was really looking forward to the ceviche and it was not good. The lime juice or the leche de Tigre was very bitter, and it just didn't taste good... Something was off about the ceviche, perhaps it spoiled quickly as my drive back home was an hour, i unfortunately had to throw it away because it did not taste edible. Service is quite friendly, and quick. I'd come give it a second try for the ceviche, maybe it was not the freshest batch or my commute was too long but I don't think food spoils that rapidly. Either way I definitely recommend the rotisserie chicken with the sides!

It has been many years. I haven't been in that place. I was…read moresupposed to meet my two friends at Takatis Peruvian restaurant also on Van Nuys Boulevard, when unfortunately, it seems to be closed definitely! So we went to Chios well the parking lot is very easy to park, it is adjacent to sizzler's restaurant. My friend Laurence chose a chicken tamal, Peruvian style, and fried plantains. My friend Evelyne chose a vegetarian Tallarin, with green fettuccine, and a bowl of vegetables, since she's vegetarian! At first, they had brought her the tallarin with the chicken milanesa, but she returned the order since she's vegetarian, and received the tallarin with vegetables: shereally love it! And personally, I ordered de aguatito de Pescado y mariscos: it is a green colored seafood soup, with peas and rice; it was my first time ordering that and I really liked it although I thought the green broth was a little bit too thin so I ordered a little more rice to put in it! Also, I ordered a tallarin saltado de mariscos to go, for my home. I love their food: it is so delicious and fresh I ll come back here anytime ‼

On one such date night, our most recent, Chio's managed to deliver what they usually do - filling Peruvian fare that contributed even more to the confidence that we'll eat here again down the line. We're grateful to have a Peruvian place in the neighborhood (we're lucky enough to be in the middle of the two Van Nuys locations) and the time has come to talk about it. I got the pasta sampler - the Fettuccine Dos Sabores - house made pesto fettucine; a not-quite-Alfredo, Peruvian cheese fettucine, both topped with steak and grated parmesan. I'd be remiss not to mention the au jus that made the creaminess of both pastas shine. The result was a savory steak and pasta dish that almost ate like a cheesy stew - which worked. I had enough of the cheese sauce in my beard to attest to the positive experience. And the spouse got Tacu Tacu a Lo Pobre, Chio's crunchy rice plate. It was alluring because the crunchy rice included beans in its makeup. Of course, served with grilled steak, a fried egg and fried plantains. The spouse observed the menu and Yelp pictures, and she thought it looked as advertised. She just wasn't sure if the rice and beans were supposed to be crunchier. She would have appreciated more of a bite in that direction. Sometimes, the good places don't need to be four and five stars to be gems. The ones that are alright, that you don't mind coming back to, to have at your faves or try something new, the continued patronage says it all. Looking forward to having us another meal at Chio's soon enough.
