I had my baby shower cake here and had it delivered to the place of my event. I ordered a round cake that would be used for photos and a sheet cake for serving. I forgot to ask for a cake knife so I was scrambling a little when it was time to serve the cake. It was weird that when the cake was delivered the round cake didn't come in a box. It was literally just the cake. Since I am not a new customer here I knew exactly what cake flavor I wanted and I couldn't be any happier. Since I know what flavor o wanted choosing a design and having them execute it was no issue. My cakes turned out wonderful.

This is a such sweet and much needed spot in our Pasadena community. Both Lynn and Shazi are very intentional towards us (my fiancé and I came in for a wedding cake deposit). Both women are intentional in giving us all the details and even made sure they understood what we wanted with the filling and design. The attention to details and kindness to customers is much needed in the busy or hustle and bustle of our daily grind. It is. Dry refreshing dealing with people in the service industry that cares about getting your order and the most important day of your life right.

We ordered our wedding cake from Takes The Cake -- they absolutely live up to their name! We got an 8" cutting cake and sheet cake to serve to guests. The cake was chocolate on chocolate with fresh strawberries and a light ivory frosting. We also added the meandering vine design and buttercream flowers. Communication was super clear and fast, and we were able to try a few samples and finalize our order on the same day. Everything was magnificent! I had a very special theme for my 30th birthday. I have been planning this party since I turned 20 and I always knew how I would like my cake to look like . When i picked up my cake I was blown away ! Not only did it look exactly like I wanted it also tasted amazing! ( Got white/vanilla cake with white chocolate filling ) Make sure to order in advance ( I did like 4 months cus I'm crazy ) so that they don't book up . We definitely be back :)

They did a great job on my wedding cake. We were able to taste samples before we picked our flavors and the cake was perfect! We ordered by emailing them. Cake wasn't cheap but it was much cheaper than what other bakeries quoted us. Our wedding coordinator said this is the only place she'd pick up from as she knows they pack the cakes so well. They also give you a grip for the bottom of the cake not to slide in the car and show you how best to transport and cut to serve. 10/10, ordering all our cakes from here moving forward. Our cake was vanilla with white chocolate mousse and chocolate with chocolate mousse.

I ordered a Sonic-themed cake for my son's 7th birthday, and it was perfect! This was my first time ordering here, and they nailed the design exactly as I requested. The communication during the ordering process was super easy, and the cake was delivered right on time. Lynn and Shazi were amazing!All the guests, including the kids, couldn't stop raving about how delicious it was. My son really loved the cake and said " Wow, This is the best cake ever! Hands down best tasting and best looking cakes if you need to make a statement at your party. Customer service is also great! Don't miss out!

Hmmm.... I want to order a custom carrot cake for my friend's birthday, so I call them up and ask "can you make a carrot cake with macadamia nuts instead of walnuts?" Their reply "no, we can't do that." And that's the end of that. Customization FAIL. read more

i ordered a pug cake for my boyfriend 2-3 days before i needed it. I appreciate the fact they were able to do this for me even though i didn't give them that much time. Sent them a picture of my pug since they insisted that they were going to replicate her face.. my pug's mouth and ears are black, but they were brown on the cake, and the taste is WAY TOO SWEET. we had the white cake with vanilla filling. my whole party of 22 that ate the cake agreed it was way too sweet. with that being said, this was a 6inch cake shared amongst 22 people, very small slices because we don't eat too much cake. it was just enough. and even at that small portion, it was still too sweet for our palettes. 6inch cake came out to be $60 dollars. Wedding cake shopping is tough! Finding the right cake design, and flavors are really personal, and it's a reflection on us at the wedding. Out of three places we tried, Takes The Cake was by far the most superior, and very reasonably priced. They were also very easy to work with. Our cake was a three tier (see photo posted) buttercream cake, that had three separate flavors: Chocolate cake with chocolate toffee crunch Lemon cake with lemon mousse White cake with apricot filling All three were amazing, and the design was incredible. They worked with our Grey, yellow and white colors, and the result was stunning. Best of all, all of our guests loved it. Not dry at all, and not too sweet, just perfect! Thank you! read more

I was given a cake from here by my office for my birthday. It was divine. The chocolate melted in my mouth and the entire office was in heaven. My mom's birthday is a week after mine so I insisted on ordering a cake like mine for her from there. I wanted something that was reminiscent of strawberry shortcake, as that is my mom's favorite. The cake was just perfect! The only reason they got 4 stars instead of 5 is because I did receive rude customer service when trying to order my husband's birthday cake. I ended up going elsewhere because I can be a petulant brat, but will return again when another birthday comes upon us. Truly delicious and so beautiful to look at! I took tons of pictures of my cake and my moms. And they were just regular birthday cakes that looked and tasted amazing! read more

Long overdue review. I ordered two half sheet cakes based on their tasting samples, i.e. chocolate and vanilla. The birthday party theme was a decades dance party. One of the bakers immediately came up with the cake design for both cakes. My guests and I loved the cake decorations and the taste. Plus the price was reasonable compared to other bakeries. They really did an excellent job. Would highly recommend them for your cake needs. read more

We used Takes the Cake for our daughter's 1st birthday. We were in a tough bind as our original cake maker had to cancel due to hand surgery leaving us with only two weeks to get a cake. When my husband called them, they were understanding of our situation and were available to help us. They even invited him to their store the same day. My husband went over and showed them our "vision" for our munchkin's fiesta themed cake complete with inspiration from my daughter's dress, flowers, and papel picado. They drew up sketches and we were able to finalize the details in a few days which included a cake tasting. When he came home with the finished product, I was blown away! It was beyond gorgeous! All of my guests could not get over how beautiful it was. And to top things off, it tasted wonderful! It tasted just like a churro. ^_^ We will definitely keep them in mind for future cakes as they do an amazing job. read more

We got a fantastic, nicely-detailed "Dr. Who" birthday cake that was as great to look at as it was to eat. The cake was moist, the two inner layers of frosting, the outer layer of fondant -- so fluffy, rich and good. Too bad we can't eat like this every day of the week. Important to note that, in the age of Covid, the customer service was friendly, distanced and safe. Tiniest little hole in the wall- but the most fun bakery!!! I was picking out a cake for my 40th bd. They have tons of pictures to choose from or you can design your own! Stumbled upon this lovely little bakeshop while perusing Yelp for a custom cake maker. I was a little nervous about ordering a custom cake over the phone just two days in advance; however, I was met with sheer enthusiasm and absolutely impeccable customer service. I wanted a medical themed cake and the employee promptly emailed me photos of previous designs. I replied back with several photos of what I had in mind, and boy, was I blown away when I came to pick it up two days later! The cake was absolutely better than I imagined it would be and it tasted incredibly moist to boot! I got the chocolate cake with espresso mousse. I would come back in a heartbeat. read more

Thanks to yelp and all the great reviews I decided to go with TAKES THE CAKE. I highly recommend them for the following reasons: The price of the cakes and design were reasonable. I found this place by googling "custom cakes LA", and called them right up to order a cake. They told me to send them an email with the specifications, so I did. I guess it didn't go through, though, because when I called in to check the day before it was supposed to ready, they had no idea what email I was talking about. But still, they managed to make the cake in a day. And it was perfect. I mean PERFECT. I had ordered a cake in the shape of a TARDIS, which they hadn't heard of before, and they obviously did research because it was far beyond my expectations. They had even put stars and cosmos behind it/on the sides, something I never would have thought to ask for. THEN, as if that wasn't amazing enough, I got stuck in a jam (literally- LA traffic) and couldn't pick it up. I was near tears so I called up and asked them to deliver it last minute. One of the women who works there (I'm so sorry I forgot your name) agreed to deliver the cake AFTER HOURS in RUSH HOUR for the normal delivery price. Not to mention the cake was delicious as hell... One of the best red velvet cakes I've ever eaten. The cake was gone in minutes, which I've noticed is a very rare occurrence. This place is AMAZING. Buy all of your cakes here. Takes the Cake did a fabulous job making the PERFECT cake for my son's 2 year birthday. It was a train party and they created a delightful Thomas cake based on just a few pics I showed her and my ideas on how to keep it simple. It was so perfect, I didn't want to cut it. But my guests were happy I did! The cake was delicious and moist and the layers of frosting were light and airy. We did a four layer cake with chocolate and white cake with strawberry frosting filling. Adults who don't normally like birthday cake told me how much they enjoyed it. My experience from the start was nothing but excellent! My cake tasting was easy and delicious. I decided on a small 3 tier cake consisting of a chocolate cake with chocolate mousse, a white cake with strawberry mousse, and my personal favorite, a chocolate cake with mocha mousse. The design of the cake was simple and I later added my own flowers. I had someone pick it up for me and she had nothing but good things to say. They were really helpful and made the pick up less stressful. The cake itself was delicious and beautiful. Exactly what I had wanted. I had many people ask me where it was from. Officially my go to bakery when I need a cake for special occasions. Taste amazing AND the decorations are always on point. Recently had my sister in law get me a cake for my baby shower. We wanted a cake that was based off of the "It's a Small World" ride at Disneyland and Takes the Cake delivered what we wanted to perfection! Not only did we love the outside, but the cake itself tasted delicious! We got the spice cake for the bottom layer and funfetti for the top. I'm a very happy customer! The cake looked awesome! Guests were asking where I got it from. Some of them asked for another slice, that's how good it was! Cake was moist, tasty and it was just the right sweetness! I was surprised how delicious it was. We got the red velvet for the top tier and white and chocolate for the bottom. I think my family and I have found a new bakery to buy birthday cakes! Ever since our favorite cake bakery was shut down we have been looking for something close by and able to make customs cakes at an affordable price. This year I wanted a Drake themed cake and it came out better than I expected! What I enjoyed the most was that they bakery was able to accommodate my order in less than a week before I was asking for it. I will ALWAYS get our cakes from here!! Takes the cake is amazing and their cakes always taste soooooo good! They can create anything you can imagine. LYNN is always so sweet and genuinely kind. They did a wonderful job for our son's stormtrooper Cake. He had the biggest smile when he saw it and we didn't want to cut into it. But we are glad we did as the chocolate/fresh strawberry cake was delightful. The only issue was communication and inability to confirm details easily. read more

Otherwise, it tastes as expected. I think I paid $7.25 or so which isn't too bad nowadays. Parking does suck, it's at a weird location on green street. I parked on the street and walked over. Not a lot of seating area to enjoy on site.

If you like that nutty, sweet, and earthy flavor this one is for you. I could taste the coconut, but it wasn't overpowering. There were also little chunks of halva in there that added a slight bit of sweetness. The texture was similar to cookie dough, but softer. Aside from the taste, I loved the simple presentation of the small rose on top of the scoop. It made it look elegant. As you can tell, I am definitely coming back and highly recommend stopping by.

I am very pleased with this Bakery. Its small, but packs a big punch! I had a bridal shower for my future daughter-in-law, and found this bakery at the last minute. I didn't make an appointment. Just walked in, and upon tasting 4 slices of cake, picked the flavor I like and ordered the cake. I chose the white cake, with Strawberry preserves and cream cheese! Yum! The cake was light, and the filling was yummy. I basically ordered a mini wedding cake, and it came out beautiful! And, very very reasonable! Everyone at the shower loved the cake, and asked where I got it from. I actually ordered more than I needed, and gave the bottom tier to the bride to be. She and my son, are on a strict diet for the wedding, so she took it to work. Needless to say, the people at her work, demolished it. Not a crumb left. I could not be happier with my experience with Takes The Cake and Lynn! We had a dinosaur themed cake made for my son's 2nd birthday. Sadly my son caught a terrible virus a couple days before the party and we were forced to postpone by a week. Lynn was understanding and gave us no hassle about the last minute change, which was so kind of her. The cake we got a week later was perfection! Takes The Cake recently did my husband's groom's cake and it turned out great. Very whimsical. It had an outdoor theme and were able to incorporate the funny cake topper I got at Michael's without a problem. The cake was white with a raspberry filling and was quite tasty. Fresh. I still go to them when I need a specialty cake for a birthday or other special occasion. They can be on the pricey side, but I don't mind that for a special event. read more
