    Mussel amuse bouche
    Elvin C.

Stopped in for our third visit. (more on our second later). Came in on Thursday night and planned for 6 p.m. when street parking opens up for free directly in front of the resto past the bus stop. Nice and quiet and the chef/owner to ourselves along with to go orders. He's working solo now so he welcomes patrons outside the weekend and patience on busier nights. We got an amuse bouche of mussels with a hot sauce but not so much to overwhelm taste balance. Good temperature to avoid overcooking but not presenting something cold. Will present a little chew as expected since these are mussels and not small oysters. So we went with our favorites so far: crazy roll and futomaki, but also noticed that for both rolls - all neat six pieces, no messy end pieces. I'm guessing minimal cuts at the ends to avoid loss while gaining presentation. (no photos from our 2nd visit to compare). Tried the wawa ramen - bbq ham is leaner but doesn't present the lusciousness of the chashu even via thin slices. Plan to walk through all the ramens soon enough. We did experiment with the seaweed roll during our 2nd visit and I think we decided it was too simple and didn't leave us with a particular impression (or photo).

There were goods and bads here that led to me giving this spot a 3 stars. Food was hit/miss. Service was good. And ambiance was fine. We ordered the chef's sashimi bowl ($29), the chicken katsu ramen ($17), and the karage ($5.5). I think the sashimi is fresh and the portion is decent. Also, the sushi rice was delicious and it came with a miso soup. I enjoyed this dish and the soup. But, the chicken ramen fell short for me. They left the chicken karage drowning under all the broth, so it was very soggy by the time the waiter brought it out. And the cheese they put in looked like a kraft single. Very processed. Texture-wise, all of the panko-breaded skin was detached from the chicken and floating around with cheese clumps, and the chicken was rubbery and overcooked, which I did not enjoy. As for the noodles, they tasted and looked like boiled shin ramen noodles. The chicken karage was interesting. I expected bone-in chicken wings, but these were something like stuffed chicken nuggets. They were ok. All of the chicken meat was ground to a pulp and so it had no texture. It had some seasoning but not really a lot of flavor. The place was cute, and the decor was very unique and enjoyable. And our waiter was friendly. I just don't think the food justifies the price, and I'm not sure I would come back again.

    Cucumber sunomono

This was my first time trying Takibi. I really enjoyed my food. I placed an order for pick up over the phone and it was very easy. I ordered the cucumber sunomono, crispy vegetable gyoza and a Philly roll (Philadelphia roll). The gentleman who took my order was kind and efficient and my order was packed nicely. I thought it was a cute place and will definitely consider visiting to dine-in in the future. I most enjoyed the gyoza, it had a really nice taste. The roll was solid as well. It was my first time ever trying cucumber sunomono so I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I was expecting more of a strong flavor. I would probably stick with the sushi and gyozo next time, but overall a great experience!

I love going to this place. It's like having home cooked Japanese food. The guy who runs it is incredibly nice. The place is small and cozy. If you are nearby, maybe after the beach, check it out.

i came in skeptical but i now it's one of my favorite local spots. husband convinced me to try this place because its a nearby restaurant, and we loved it. we got the salmon skin + tuna(?) onigiri and it was giant and delicious. maybe i was just hungry but i literally would've licked the plate to be honest. i got the chef's choice sashimi bowl and the fish was so fresh and nice, the sushi rice was perfect, and i don't usually like sushi rice. husband got some pork or meat bowl and he said he really liked it too. the waiter/what I'm assuming is one of the owners(?) were very kind. i always see the two working and it shows they put a lot of care into their craft. so surprised it's not always busy here.

Amazing sushi, lovely service, super cute cozy spot. The chefs choice nigiri hit the spot and the tamago was delish! Highly recommend if you're hungry for good sushi and in the area!

This place quietly appeared where a sushi spot used to be and man is it amazing. The chef put exceptional care into everything and seemed to be a one-man show. Service took a little longer but it was well worth the wait. The ramen was incredible and came in adorable bowls. The Hawaiian gyoza was the perfect flavor combos and essentially a healthy poke salad combined with fried, crispy goodness of veggie dumplings. Cute little shop with a sushi counter, window seating, and a few small tables. Great for a date or alone. Pretty sure it was also BYOB.

We happened upon Takibi after spending the day at the beach by Loyola Park. We were so satisfied with our dinner . This is a cute and small Japanese eatery right off of Sheridan Rd. We got a maki roll and the sashimi bowl. I would highly recommend the sashimi bowl as it is packed with quality sashimi. The service is so good too with a friendly staff ( maybe the owners?) that greet you when you come in and take care of you the entire time. Would come back again !

Large Sashimi, Lollipop "Out" Roll, Garlic Edamame
    Jennifer B.

I visited Takibi on their second day of service, and I am looking forward to many future visits. I ordered the large sashimi, and the Lollipop "Out" Special Roll Tasty (fresh salmon, fresh tuna, scallion, yuzu ginger truffle). My arrival at the restaurant was warmly and graciously welcomed by both the hostess and the chef, and I immediately relaxed into the cozy yet spacious environment. While waiting for my to-go meal to be prepared, I realized that I would've equally enjoyed dining in-house; the ambiance was tranquil and peaceful, a notable contrast to the bustling energy of Sheridan Road. After hurrying home to try my food, I sampled a bit of everything. No more than three savored bites into my solitary smorgasbord? I immediately called the restaurant and offered immense gratitude for them having some of the freshest, highest-quality sashimi I've tried in the Chicagoland area. Additionally, I mentioned that the flavor combinations they presented were nuanced, yet deliberate. I also reiterated that they would see me again in the very near future. I initially made that statement prior to trying their food, as I had a feeling it would prove true; I was pleased that my hypothesis was correct. While it could be said that there are several restaurants offering similar types of Japanese cuisine in the Rogers Park area? It could also be said that they each provide a different representation of the same cuisine. I hope that Takibi finds their space within our neighborhood, as when I was at their home - and when I enjoyed their dishes in mine - I was transported to a place that felt like a different version of home.

Ate her when the previous owners were here and was sad to see them go. The new owners and their new restaurant, takibi are more than worthy successors. I'm kind of a ramen head and it was rather cold so I gave this a shot. Solid broth, good toppings and ok pork. If you're feeling cold, this stuff warms the soul. Best ramen egg out there helps. Service is very professional and you can tell the sushi chef is passionate about his craft. Cute wallk art and very clean interior. Definitely coming back for the sushi

this is an amazing spot to grab sushi. Although the restaurant is small and it's also intimate and has a creative vibe. The sushi is so amazing and tasty. We tried a couple of different rolls and none of them bad. If you're in Rogers park you have to try this place.

Sashimi bowl - more than enough for two especially with rice
    Eugene F.

What a great spot! Service is fantastic and the chef/owner has a really positive energy and attitude towards cooking - you can tell in the food. The music is very relaxing and very chill spot. We got the sashimi bowl and the nigiri platter and both were excellent! They make their own tamago here which is a telltale sign of a quality sushi spot (majority of sushi spots in Chicago just buy it). The top pieces were the unagi and the tamago. The rice was also fantastic and the the price was great too! I honestly thought compared to everything else in Chicago and the quality this place is a deal! We went during off hours and loved that we found this spot! Check them out!

I found this new place (maybe a new owner), and I am glad I did. It's a small and quiet place. I found out that the owner is an artist and has drawings that he drew displayed on the wall. This explains how his carefully prepared dishes are delicious and artistic. Highly recommend.

I got the salmon bowl, the salmon avocado maki, and tuna crispy rice. The salmon bowl was definitely my favorite. The salmon was cooked very nicely so that it wasn't dry, and I loved the miso glaze that they put on top. It added a very nice sweetness to the salmon and created a very nice char. It was pretty small portion size though. The salmon avocado maki was solid too. It was the most filling! You get 5 pieces :) The tuna crispy rice was just alright. The rice part was good, but there was a bit too much mayo in the tuna. The miso soup that came complimentary with it was good too! I like how generous they were with the seaweed. Such a nice vibe inside! It's definitely a nicer spot, but still casual enough for lunch. I wanna come back for dinner! Service was quick and server was kind.

I ended up calling the Printer's Row location and had the team talk to the manager at the Chinatown location, and the manager at the Chinatown location kept their stance that it does not work, stating Printer's Row location does not know why the gift card does not work at the Chinatown location, and will not make any exceptions to accepting the gift card. It was the views that attracted us to this venue. It turned out to be a perfect evening with beautiful weather for dining al fresco. Since it was a Monday evening, the large modern dining room was not too busy. As expected, the outdoor terrace was bustling. The terrace is basically divided into 3 sections. We were seated in the first section closest to Navy Pier and Lake Michigan, and this area filled up fast shortly after 6:00 pm. Service was friendly and professional throughout the evening. Our server Justin was very knowledgeable of the menu. Both the hostess and Justin wished our daughter a happy birthday several times. A birthday dessert with a lit candle on the side was presented to her at the end of the dinner, making it a special meal to her. Our daughter ordered a cocktail called Happy Days ($23) that came in a Japanese cat shaped jar/glass. My husband had a glass of Chablis ($21), and I had a mocktail Setting Sun ($14), which has fresh yuzu, Valencia orange, lychee, Soda. However, I could only taste the soda, I wished I could taste the lychee. For dinner, we ordered the following to share: Kani Kani Crispy Rice ($34) -- Justin recommended this dish. I really enjoyed the crispy rice and the minced crab meat topping, which was flavorful and not too spicy. However, my husband did not feel that was a crab flavor. Tempura Rock Shrimp ($19) -- a nice quantity for sharing, shrimp was fresh, but nothing too special. Crispy Spring Rolls ($28) -- 6 very small spring rolls were filled with Maine lobster, pork, with Thai orange sauce. They were delicious but we couldn't really distinguish the lobster or pork in the minced filling. (For the nigiri and sashimi, each order came with 2 pieces. Everything we tried was fresh.) Unagi +1 piece ($14 + $7) -- BBQ Fresh Water Eel Seared Salmon Belly Nigiri +1 piece ($23 + $11.50) Kinmedai ($18) -- Golden Snapper Chutoro ($21) -- Medium Fatty Tuna A5 Wagyu Nigiri ($49) - This was a surprise disappointment. All 4 pieces of Wagyu were tough and had gristle in them, so chewy that we had to spit them out. It's definitely not the melt-in-your-mouth A5 Wagyu experience that I was looking for. Duck Yakisoba ($28) - This dish was mixed on our table by a server, that added more fun to a dish that had egg noodles, duck confit, and ginger. It was flavorful with a good amount of duck. Black Cod ($44) - It was nicely seared and prepared. However, my first bite had a very slight fishy smell in it. Otherwise, it was a good dish. Black Sesame Mochi ($18) -- Charcoal-Vanilla ice cream, black sesame praline, and mochi sponge. Surprisingly, this was the highlight of the night! The flavors and all the different textures worked very well together. I could easily eat a couple of these myself! I am still craving for the aromatic crispy black sesame praline and creamy charcoal-vanilla ice cream a week later! With a 3.5% restaurant surcharge, our total bill came to $431.80 before tip. Valet parking was originally $50, but with restaurant validation, it was brought down to $35. All in all, we had a wonderful birthday dinner for our daughter. The stunning views and ambiance with excellent service made it a memorable evening, while the food was very good overall, there were a couple of disappointments. For us, Miru is a 4-star experience overall, with 5-star ambiance and service.

I've been here 2-3 times and each time it's just because I've gotten such a strong omakase craving and my other go-to spots are full for the night but this one just doesn't do it for me. There's other less expensive, more innovative omakase places in Chicago, I promise Upside: Chefs are absolute gems. The vibes are chic, cool and intimate, so my boyfriend and I have gone as a date spot. We got the upgraded "bougie" package and a few additional rolls cause again, basic menu doesn't hit the spot. Taken a friend there before too also opting for "bougie" because we wanted more rolls, but we split some dumplings on the way home if you catch my drift lol. For a slimmer 5'4" gal (my friend being literally a 4'10" gal) with a pretty decent appetite but nothing crazy, that shouldn't be happening consistently!

So pleasantly surprised! Came in on a Friday night for a 6:30 reso and the place was empty BUT it…read morewas packed, seemingly by regulars, by the time we left. Service was a little slow at time but they got slammed very quickly and and we weren't in a rush. What we got: - chuturo nigiri - so buttery - hamachi nigiri - good flavor and cut - chili hotate - love the flavor - negi toro maki - good flavor - unakyu- fine a little on the sweeter side - Amai - not my favorite and I think the tuna had a strong fishy flavor Overall, good meal and pretty reasonable bill. Will definitely be coming back to check out the rest of the menu!

Such a wonderful spot! Fantastic happy hour. Everything was made fresh and tasted delicious…read more Service was super friendly, and they even brought out a free birthday mochi for my friend. We got the karage, three of the skewers , and the spicy salmon and tuna rolls. This place, along with the entrance is a bit hidden, so would love to see them market themselves more as I think it's a spot people would really love, especially for more affordable sushi in the River North area. Quiet and cozy ambiance for casual outings but also cute enough to be a date spot. Got seated immediately. Service was a bit slow, but that's only because they seemed to have one host/server working at the time, who was working super hard and kept a super pleasant and attentive vibe. I will definitely be back!
