Very friendly service and great food at reasonable prices. Were very attentive to our needs and made it a pleasure to visit. It was our 52nd wedding anniversary and they surprised us with a nice desert. The other nice feature is BYOB so we could celebrate with a little proseco and not blow the budget.

This spot is so yummy! The menu is eclectic. We had the mussels for an appetizer and a BLT sushi roll that tasted like a Cobb salad. It was different but fresh, highly recommend!

Both my friend and I had Tanoshii bookmarked for a while, so we decided to try it for dinner after shopping in the area. The decor is cozy and it feels very similar to local neighborhood sushi restaurants I would go to growing up. We got two signature rolls - the salmon truffle honey and the shiitake one, as well as some sashimi pieces. The signature rolls were yummy but we felt both the truffle honey and the shiitake mushroom were the stars of the rolls and that these rolls were tailored maybe more for folks who aren't as focused on the raw fish aspect. I thought they were good but I wouldn't order again. Also, we tried the fish and chips and while the raw fish is a generous helping and well seasoned, the chips were stale and just in general not a great vessel for the raw fish. Def would not get again. For sashimi, we got the scallop and some others and I would say scallop was standout. Overall, I would say this is a good place for their regular sushi rolls (better prices) and a neighborhood sushi spot, but I felt the signature rolls were a bit expensive for what they were and I wouldn't come back here anytime soon / go out of my way to go here if I was someone else.

Came to yet another Asian place in Andersonville. It certainly has quite a few, but this may be the best one. Tanoshii is best known for the great sushi. Basically it's a Japanese restaurant with a full menu, but really the sushi is what people come to get. Prices are pretty good for the portions and quality. Before going we already knew we were getting some of the sushi, and we got to the seats in front of the sushi bar. It's the best seats in the house. There you can see your rolls get made. Cool idea. Everyone talks about how good Chef Mike is, and that's because he's good: he makes some good ass sushi. As for what we got, it was the V-Maki Combi. It's $12 for miso soup and three vegetarian maki rolls. Choose which ones. I got the avocado, cucumber, and oshinko rolls. Good price. There was a lot of food for this. Even though it's best known for sushi, there's other stuff on the menu such as their own version of fish and chips. It's best known for the sushi though. The combos are a good value, and there's lots of options for the fish eaters as well as vegans and vegetarians.

We arrived here about 30 minutes before they were closing with no reservation. They made us wait for a couple minutes. I think she was trying to get the ok to seat us this late in the night. She came back and walked us to our table. We started off with their Gyoza. Pan fried vegetable dumplings that were delicious. These were thinner than what I'm used to but still packed with flavor. We only ordered two rolls for our late night dinner. They're Dragon Roll and their Andersonville Roll. I wanted something with cream cheese and the Andersonville Roll was the only one. It also came with avocado, shrimp tempura, kanikama, unagi and cucumber. The Dragon Roll came with pretty much the same things, except for cream cheese. Both rolls were good as well as the service. I'll definitely be returning.

We stopped by this place while walking Andersonville and tried their omakase which was amazing! The sushi was fresh and taste was combination of ingredients was refreshing. We got 4 dishes by chef Eddie who customized our dishes to our taste and suggestions. We were able to get seated without a reservation fast but recommended reservations during busy hours. The ambiance was lively and all service was kind! Recommend for a date night!

Given the price point, I wanted to give this a better review. I did enjoy the food, however, the service missed the mark for me. Although the fish was undoubtably fresh and tender, the sauces in the omakase perhaps covered up the flavor. The truffle oil and honey were still an interesting take which I enjoyed. The restaurant was deserted and the hostess seated me at the bar. The chef approached me and crossed his arms, speculating that I probably haven't had good sushi before and that I do not know how to appreciate fine dining. A confused chuckle later, I paid the bill and tried to tiptoe out without drawing any further attention. I would like to try more of the menu, but perhaps that will be a delivery operation.

    Chicago Restaurant Week Menu

Tried the 2024 Chicago Restaurant Week menu with my best friend. Did a reservation for 515 pm online. We started with the Lychee and Elderflower martinis while we waited for our food. Started with the fish and chips for our First Bite, which came with spicy tuna, pico de gallo, avocado, tobiko, lemon juice; served on a flour tortilla chip. This was a really starter to the entire menu. Our Second Bite came with Ponzu Sashimi and the Bluefin Truffle Sashimi. I preferred the latter but both were really amazing Our Third Bite included the nigiri flight. This came with the following: hamachi + negi | sake + yuzu koshö | maguro + kizami wasabi. All were really good and couldnt put any of them above the other. Our main Special Rolls for the Fourth bite came with the following: - Hamachi, avocado, soy-wasabi sauce, jalapeno - Maguro, avocado, spicy tuna, tempura, baked Japanese chili aioli - Sake, avocado, truffle honey & gochujang sauce - Escolar, avocado, shiitake mushrooms, chive sauce These were incredible. They told us to start with the Hamachi but then anything else after that. I say that was good advice. Ended with the strawberry and mango mochis for dessert. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for Chicago Restaurant Week. The service was great and the menu was pretty good for the price. The ambience could be good for somwthing casual, but can be good for dates and an intimate group. Would definitely like to come back and the full menu.

What a lovey and intimate sushi spot! If you can, definitely sit at the counter to soak in the snug and cozy vibe. The food was delightful. We started with the fish & chips appetizer--a playful dish where the server mixed fish and served it on a chip (resembling a tiny pizza). The seared tuna salad was refreshing with a subtle smokiness. Among the rolls, we particularly enjoyed the toro truffle and the shiitake roll. We chose the omakase style and let the chef select our dishes. Just note that the bill is itemized, so you pay for each item rather than a fixed price.

Friends and I came when we were craving sushi and wanted to try something new. They explained to us that they had an omakase which consisted of rolls. Not being too crazy of rolls we still wanted to experience it for a change. Sadly I think most of us regretted it. Overall the quality of fish wasn't terrible to say, I felt many I'm components such as truffle oil just masked the actual taste. I felt like everything was a California roll with a hint of a the chefs fish choice and avocado. We kept trying because we thought things would switch up but to us it still tasted the same. For the price I wish I would've paid a little extra and got an omakase experience I was used to. For rolls people this could be a good experience! I just want to be able to enjoy the fish.

    Chef Mike at it!

The salmon was cooked very nicely so that it wasn't dry, and I loved the miso glaze that they put on top. It added a very nice sweetness to the salmon and created a very nice char. It was pretty small portion size though. The salmon avocado maki was solid too. It was the most filling! You get 5 pieces :) The tuna crispy rice was just alright. The rice part was good, but there was a bit too much mayo in the tuna. The miso soup that came complimentary with it was good too! I like how generous they were with the seaweed. It was the views that attracted us to this venue. It turned out to be a perfect evening with beautiful weather for dining al fresco. Since it was a Monday evening, the large modern dining room was not too busy. As expected, the outdoor terrace was bustling. The terrace is basically divided into 3 sections. We were seated in the first section closest to Navy Pier and Lake Michigan, and this area filled up fast shortly after 6:00 pm. Service was friendly and professional throughout the evening. Our server Justin was very knowledgeable of the menu. Both the hostess and Justin wished our daughter a happy birthday several times. A birthday dessert with a lit candle on the side was presented to her at the end of the dinner, making it a special meal to her. Our daughter ordered a cocktail called Happy Days ($23) that came in a Japanese cat shaped jar/glass. My husband had a glass of Chablis ($21), and I had a mocktail Setting Sun ($14), which has fresh yuzu, Valencia orange, lychee, Soda. However, I could only taste the soda, I wished I could taste the lychee. For dinner, we ordered the following to share: Kani Kani Crispy Rice ($34) -- Justin recommended this dish. I really enjoyed the crispy rice and the minced crab meat topping, which was flavorful and not too spicy. However, my husband did not feel that was a crab flavor. Tempura Rock Shrimp ($19) -- a nice quantity for sharing, shrimp was fresh, but nothing too special. Crispy Spring Rolls ($28) -- 6 very small spring rolls were filled with Maine lobster, pork, with Thai orange sauce. They were delicious but we couldn't really distinguish the lobster or pork in the minced filling. (For the nigiri and sashimi, each order came with 2 pieces. Everything we tried was fresh.) Unagi +1 piece ($14 + $7) -- BBQ Fresh Water Eel Seared Salmon Belly Nigiri +1 piece ($23 + $11.50) Kinmedai ($18) -- Golden Snapper Chutoro ($21) -- Medium Fatty Tuna A5 Wagyu Nigiri ($49) - This was a surprise disappointment. All 4 pieces of Wagyu were tough and had gristle in them, so chewy that we had to spit them out. It's definitely not the melt-in-your-mouth A5 Wagyu experience that I was looking for. Duck Yakisoba ($28) - This dish was mixed on our table by a server, that added more fun to a dish that had egg noodles, duck confit, and ginger. It was flavorful with a good amount of duck. Black Cod ($44) - It was nicely seared and prepared. However, my first bite had a very slight fishy smell in it. Otherwise, it was a good dish. Black Sesame Mochi ($18) -- Charcoal-Vanilla ice cream, black sesame praline, and mochi sponge. Surprisingly, this was the highlight of the night! The flavors and all the different textures worked very well together. I could easily eat a couple of these myself! I am still craving for the aromatic crispy black sesame praline and creamy charcoal-vanilla ice cream a week later! With a 3.5% restaurant surcharge, our total bill came to $431.80 before tip. Valet parking was originally $50, but with restaurant validation, it was brought down to $35. All in all, we had a wonderful birthday dinner for our daughter. The stunning views and ambiance with excellent service made it a memorable evening, while the food was very good overall, there were a couple of disappointments. For us, Miru is a 4-star experience overall, with 5-star ambiance and service.

For a slimmer 5'4" gal (my friend being literally a 4'10" gal) with a pretty decent appetite but nothing crazy, that shouldn't be happening consistently!

So pleasantly surprised! Came in on a Friday night for a 6:30 reso and the place was empty BUT it…read morewas packed, seemingly by regulars, by the time we left. Service was a little slow at time but they got slammed very quickly and and we weren't in a rush. What we got: - chuturo nigiri - so buttery - hamachi nigiri - good flavor and cut - chili hotate - love the flavor - negi toro maki - good flavor - unakyu- fine a little on the sweeter side - Amai - not my favorite and I think the tuna had a strong fishy flavor Overall, good meal and pretty reasonable bill. Will definitely be coming back to check out the rest of the menu!

Such a wonderful spot! Fantastic happy hour. Everything was made fresh and tasted delicious…read more Service was super friendly, and they even brought out a free birthday mochi for my friend. We got the karage, three of the skewers , and the spicy salmon and tuna rolls. This place, along with the entrance is a bit hidden, so would love to see them market themselves more as I think it's a spot people would really love, especially for more affordable sushi in the River North area. Quiet and cozy ambiance for casual outings but also cute enough to be a date spot. Got seated immediately. Service was a bit slow, but that's only because they seemed to have one host/server working at the time, who was working super hard and kept a super pleasant and attentive vibe. I will definitely be back!
