Went to Taco Sushi in Aiken, SC last night. I was disturbed when I paid my bill, with cash, and the waitress chose to round up and keep .59 cents. It threw me - so I at first thought it was a mistake and inquired - and my answer was - well we round up. I said, I did not agree to that and I want my .59 cents. WHAT DO YOU DO WITH ALL THE EXTRA MONEY YOU GET FROM YOUR CUSTOMERS. What about giving the exact change or hey how about rounding it down. Nowhere was this written - it is lunacy - When you pay with your bill via credit card - you have no problem laying out the tipping percentage and 20% is always the first line. I WAS ROBBED but I confronted the thief. I worked for lawyers & know this is not legal - there was not full disclosure - it was hidden, deceitful and I consider this to be robbery. I did tell the waitress that if this is in fact a policy, it needs to be in writing and spoken about before you take someone's money. This review is not about the food it's I about the audacity of Taco Sushi to think this is ok - IT IS NOT. It is not about the money - it's the principal and respect of this issue (or shall I say disrespect). I will say that since the new owners took over - it has gone way downhill with regards to the quality of the food. Very disappointing on every level. Improvements need to be made in every way. It took 15 minutes to get a coke and water bc they had no clean glasses and the waitresses were having to wash them instead of attending their tables. The manager was too busy hanging on the hostess stand and going to the bar complaining about her job and everything else in her life than helping out washing the glasses so her waitresses could attend their customers. Actually almost every employee was standing at the bar complaining about their job. We were at a table by the bar and heard it all. Barely apologized at all and everyone around us had their food and large party had already been served appetizers and orders were coming out- 3rd time here and last time. Also we were the only table given plastic to go cups to put our soy sauce in while everyone around us had actual dishes. I'm a huge supporter of this place and Bodega Ultima. This father and son duo have 2 great restaurants. I've only been to Takosushi 1 time but it was fabulous. The food is definitely a hit or miss. I think the only reason I was able to give it four stars was the service was really amazing. The margaritas are good and the Shumai was really good. The salmon tar tar was a little chewy and the salmon quesadilla was strangely okay because I could only taste the cheese. However, our server was very kind and sweet. She sprayed the seats and the tables down before we were seated. So overall I'm not unhappy. I am definitely going to go eat something else after this. We stopped by Takosushi while visiting Aiken on recommendation from friends. Sitting outside on a comfortable January day our food and drink orders did not take long nor disappoint. Amongst us we ordered Firecracker Shrimp, Tuna Tartare, Tuna Carpaccio, and Potstickers. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and fabulous. In the area for business and thought I'd try this place. Atmosphere is fine as it's tucked in the Alley in downtown Aiken.
