    Calamari

Since moving to SF, I have had a few decent food experiences, but most of them haven't really blown me away. Bosque might have been the first one to really widen my eyes a little. At 7 p.m., I went on Resy and was able to get what looked like one of the last tables available on a Friday night at 9 p.m. for my girlfriend and me. We got there and were seated almost immediately. The restaurant was small but very lively. It gave me the impression of a very chic and happening place. The lighting was low but not too dim, which was welcome. Once we were seated, the service was efficient and non-cumbersome, but most of all insanely fast. Almost too fast--we needed more time to decide on the wines, and the server came back in like two minutes. But to be honest, I'm not complaining. We ordered glasses of wine, a scallop, the picanha steak, the calamari, the black cod, and, to start, a crudo. The waitress also asked if we wanted bread and butter, and I said, "Why the hell not?" Two big pours of wine arrived at our table. Most glasses were priced around $15-20, so I was pleased by this, as that's not too crazy these days. The crudo was great. Pretty basic and standard in terms of flavors, but the fish was incredibly clean and fresh. Every bite was excellent. Then came the calamari... wow. I was expecting the normal fare of battered calamari, but instead we were presented with sautéed rings and tentacles in a very sumptuous anchovy and celery sauce. It was delightful--rich, very umami, and the calamari had a creaminess to it that I haven't experienced before. I was honestly kind of blown away, and it went super well with the buttered bread. Then we tried the cod. It was fantastic. Buttery, but not too heavy or cloying, and the skin was a treat as well. Next we tried the scallop, and this was another star of the night. The truffle on top was subtle but delicious, and the scallop was cooked to absolute perfection. Then the steak came. We were not asked how we would like it done, which imo is how it should be. This was a very slight letdown in terms of texture and was chewy at times, but it was still very juicy and clearly high quality. The calamari sauce made a surprisingly good accompaniment. Plus, the portion was quite large, and at $27, this was an absolute bargain compared to most steakhouses. The potatoes that came with it were roasted perfectly--crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. All in all, we were stuffed. The bill came out to $183 before tip, and honestly, I think it was a good deal for the experience. I'd definitely recommend this place for a date night in Hayes Valley. I can't wait to come back.

I've been here twice now and this place has officially become one of my favorites. From the moment you walk in, you can tell the chefs truly know what they're doing. Every dish is intentional, well executed and full of flavor. I ordered the steak with roasted potatoes, grilled asparagus, mussels and everything was done to perfection. The steak had an incredible char on the outside while staying juicy and tender inside. The potatoes were crispy, flavorful and the asparagus was beautifully grilled with layers of flavor that really stood out. The mussels were fresh and came in a broth that was rich, balanced and honestly something you don't want to leave behind. You can actually sit at the counter and watch the kitchen work, which makes the experience even better. There's a level of precision and care in how everything is prepared that you don't see everywhere. What really made this visit special was meeting the owner. He was genuinely kind, welcoming and passionate about what he does and it shows in every part of the restaurant. This is quality food, quality service and an overall experience that feels intentional from start to finish. If you're looking for a place where the chefs truly understand their craft, this is it. Highly recommend.

I really enjoyed this place. Decided to try it before seeing Stewart Copeland at the Jazz Center. It was a rainy evening and we were the first to arrive in the restaurant. Had the place to ourselves for nearly an hour so if you want quiet time go early. I had nearly everything on the menu because they aren't huge plates. This is total California cuisine - lots of fish and fresh vegetables. Think farm to table. It's all excellent. The only miss was the chocolate chip cookies at the end. I was a little shocked to see them at $9 a piece but decided to splurge on 2 anyway thinking they'd be amazing. They were good but nothing extraordinary and certainly not worth $9 a pop. Still, everything else we had was prepared perfectly. Service is friendly and attentive and the place is a gem nestled just above the crowded inner Hayes Valley strip. A great experience and I'd return.

Stopped in for wine and really liked the vibe! The space feels warm and classy without being stuffy. It's not too dark and not too loud so you can actually have a conversation. I didn't try the food, but the wine was solid and well chosen. Just be ready for SF fees. They bump the price about 25 percent, so with tip you're looking at $25 to $30 a glass. It's on the outskirts of Hayes right next to Salt & Straw. There are two chairs outside if you can grab them. A nice spot for a date night or catch up with old friends.

Food was really good, the vibe was nice, and the service was friendly. I also really liked the bench by the window. It made the place feel cozy and homey.

I cannot rave about this place and the food, service and workers enough! I hosted a private event here on a Saturday night with 35 guests and everything was perfect. I don't have many photos of the place and the food we had throughout the night, but everything exceeded our expectations. The food: I pretty much ordered the entire menu and every dish was a hit. I had a couple of vegetarians and people with allergies in my party and the staff was extremely thoughtful and attentive to our needs. Myself and my guests' favorite dishes included the mushrooms, scallops (pictured), cod and the steak. Given my event, I had pre-ordered from the menu, but many of my guests kept asking for additional items as they were too delicious to not get a second serving. The space: Bosque has the perfect cozy seating, lighting, music and atmostphere for an intimate and personal event. The space feels warm and inviting, also perfect for a date night or a night out with close friends. I had a couple people fly in from out of town for my party and they were so impressed by the space. The lighting and aesthetics were perfect for the many photos we took throughout the night! The service/staff: The wait staff, kitchen and managers of Bosque were all so friendly and accommodating for my event. They really emphasized making sure everything was to my own liking and really went the extra mile with the music and AV set up. Throughout the night, the wait staff was attentive to our party, making sure our glasses were filled and that dishes came out at the right pace. I had been planning this event with the manager for about a month and all of our interactions were warm and professional. He's also super knowledgeable and patient about wine selection which I greatly appreciated, and all of his suggestions worked out. Again, cannot recommend Bosque enough to anyone that would like to host a private event or even just come in for a delicious dinner in an inviting space! Shoutout to the Bosque team for helping make my event happen, it was truly a night I won't be forgetting! Can't wait to go back and indulge on more wine and yummy dishes on another night.

This place is such a cute spot! Came here for a wine night with friends, and the inside of the restaurant was so open and beautifully decorated! Loved all the festive garland for the holidays. We split a bottle of wine between us 3, and the waiter was very kind in giving us a recommendation for an orange wine. Would absolutely come here again for a drink and to try the food!

Charging the $10 event fee on discretion before the posted event start time seems... shady? illegal? My two friends got in a few minutes before with no cover. I was dealing with a bike lock while they went in. We were not there for the event but rather as volunteers from the weekly cleanup refuse crew in the Mission. You get perks as a thank-you for doing your part in making the City a cleaner place. We had just had a lovely time at another participating business (Beehive) and planned on Arcana being our final stop. Thankfully I was able to use the restroom without a fee, with my gear held up outside by the security team. While waiting in the restroom line, I told a staff member about all this, and the worker seemingly went up to the front to find out what's going on. The line took a few minutes, my friends also bumped into me, and I told them I'd likely wait for them outside the business post-restroom while they finished their wine. Already reported to the Mayor's Office. Maybe I'll add BBB. Should be honest and equitable! Four out of 200+ reviews by me have been one star, so I rarely share negativity. It's all rather unfortunate as other visits here went off without an issue. I warned a group of four about all this while I waited out front, and after talking to the front door folks, they left and thanked me for the advice. Please be careful if you visit here. . . .

The energy is vibrant without feeling overwhelming, and the noise level is just right. It's quiet enough to have a conversation and get lost in your own thoughts, but not so quiet that you feel awkward sitting in silence. Plus, the people watching was pretty entertaining, which definitely added to the experience. The three of us only tried two different wines. My friend ordered a glass of Masha, while my other friend and I both ordered the Los Chuchaquis. The verdict: Masha was really good. Good enough that a second glass was ordered! As for the Los Chuchaquis, I personally didn't love it. I found it a little too tannic and bitter for my taste. If you have a low tolerance for bitterness, this might not be the wine for you. That said, my friend, who ordered the same wine, absolutely loved it and thought it was delicious. So maybe I just ordered the wrong wine for my palate? ‍ Either way, the wine is only part of the experience. The energy here is fantastic, the bartender was welcoming and friendly, and the crowd was cheerful without being obnoxious, which I really appreciate. I'm not usually much of a night person, but I genuinely had a great time. It was one of those evenings that reminded me how nice it is to get out, enjoy good company, and simply soak in the atmosphere. I'm really glad I took my friends up on their offer to go out. Definitely a 5 star experience for the atmosphere, the energy, and the overall vibe. This seems to be such an interesting neighborhood. I'd love to come back and wander around, explore more, and discover what else this part of the city has to offer.
