Tamayo is an excellent spot for upscale Mexican food in Denver. It has a really solid selection of drinks at the bar, and maintains a simple & straightforward menu. In stark contrast to other Mexican restaurants where you can get lost in the deluge of the 10 page menu, Tamayo's single sheet approach is greatly appreciated. The drinks are made well, and the food really lives up to your expectations of a place of this caliber as well! I'd definitely recommend the enchiladas, and try out an app while you're in too (we had the empanadas and they were solid). An added bonus: reservations! Tamayo allows you to make reservations and that really does streamline the whole process. Attempted to go here for my girlfriend's birthday brunch... All of the week prior to going we kept checking online for reservations and saw that none were available. I then called a couple of times asking for a reservation for Sunday brunch. They said they were fully booked which I understood considering it was a Sunday morning. I tried again and luckily got a reservation!!!! We walk in excited to do the bottomless brunch. I am first amazed that the restaurant is maybe only half full considering all reservations were taken for two people We sit down and immediately a man gives us water. A nice man who's friendly. We then sit and see all the food coming out! I'm curious at what each dish may be and I'm excited to order. We find a drink menu and I plan to order a blood orange margarita. Then two tables behind us have people come in and they immediately receive menus and order drinks. We see many tables getting food and waiters and waitresses are being attentive helping it seems. After 20 MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!! I finally have to wave down a waitress and ask if we can order a drink and get a menu. She hesitates and says "I will have to figure out who your waitress is" another 3-5 minutes go by before we see a waitress and she apologizes for the wait. Usually we are understanding and willing to wait. But it is very frustrating when we wait 25 minutes to even get a menu or a drink. We then ended up deciding to walk out because of the service. I'm not sure why no one decided to wait on us. But service that slow is unacceptable and we do not plan to go back. The idea of the bottomless brunch is very intriguing but we are very disappointed at the service and way we were treated. What a spectacular restaurant on one of the most beautiful streets in downtown Denver. It's on the corner of Larimer and 14th putting you right in the action of Larimer Square. They usually have live music outside in the square in weekends so if you're lucky enough to sit outside, it's a lovely experience. We tried the empanadas, carne asada tacos, al pastor pork tacos, and the Mexican corn. All items were perfectly prepared and full of complex flavors. A delight! The service was fast and friendly. The inside of the restaurant is decorated with modern and sophisticated decor and has a nice vibe. I would definitely go back to this place on my next trip to Denver! read more

We had high hopes visiting Tamayo for dinner after looking at the menu and some photos prior to visiting. The food did not let us down and I would love to give 3.5 stars here if possible. Upon arrival, though, we were unfortunately not greeted by the hostess, and waited a moment before she turned to say something to us. She seemed distracted and unhappy, taking longer than I would expect to even seat us given it was an early dinner with plenty of open tables. Fortunately, our server was great(I really wish I wrote his name down for a shout-out!), making us and consistently checking-in during our dinner. I highly recommend the Queso Fundidio which comes on a large, hot skillet plate to scoop off of - holy queso!!! We chose the Camarones al Chipotle and Skirt Steak Fajitas as our entrees. Both of which were drool-inducing dishes just oozing with flavor. I definitely want to highlight the skirt steak which was cooked just right, ready to melt upon bite. I was highly disappointed with my visit tonight. I had very fond memories of Tamayo and recall how delicious their weekend brunch is. Today we decided to grab dinner before seeing a show at Comedyworks. I didn't bother to make a reservation as I figured at 4:30pm it wasn't necessary. I should have. The hostess walked away as we approached and another server came over to ask how many in our party (which was 2). As he was about to seat us the hostess came back and barked at him NO WALK INS!!! Meanwhile the restaurant had 4 booths occupied- so I wasn't sure what the problem was. We didn't complain and allowed him to usher us to the "lounge" side. We ordered a bunch of tacos, the queso fundido, and the flautas. I understand that perhaps they were booked for the evening but even then why behave like that in front of patrons- she didn't even bother to acknowledge us let alone give an explanation as to why we couldn't be seated in the regular part of the restaurant. We didn't bother to order more food since you can barely put anything on the tiny tables. So we stuck to the happy hour menu and went from there. Everything came out cold. The queso, the tacos, the flautas. We were barely digging into the cold queso when 5 minutes later our lackluster tacos came out. Our server was friendly and we didn't bother complaining but the food was in no way close to the caliber of food I've tried at Tamayo in the past. It was bland and a mess to be honest. The queso was so cold it was a goopy cold cheese mess when it arrived. My friend luckily didn't know any better and we tried to appreciate the food despite the odd vibe. Not sure what happened tonight but first things first- please retrain your hostess to never treat patrons of your restaurant like that. There is a more professional manner to handle a walk in customer. The food being cold and lifeless did not add to the sour experience at the hostess stand. The way it's written one would think it's some kind of happy hour special. However, they only honored it for the first pair and not our second. Not once did they say it was the case until the bill came. It was unfortunate but had to leave no tip to recover the cost of the drink. I feel conflicted about this because I know it's not the waitresses fault and solely the responsibility of the manager. read more

Came here on Saturday night for some dinner. They have nice outdoor dining but we were indoors. I would say indoors looks not as good as outdoors. I think ambience was the only thing I didn't like about this restaurant. It was kind of industrial and not very appealing. Service was great, super attentive and friendly. We kept getting our water refilled and refills for salsa and chips. We started with guacamole and salsa. Salsa was great, however guacamole was too creamy and I don't think you can request different levels of spice, it wasn't spicy at all. However it came with a big baked chip which was so good! It wasn't bad but wasn't best guacamole either. We had Mahi mahi tacos and shrimp tacos, they came on the flat plates, very nicely plated and flavors were amazing. We enjoyed them very much. Located in Larimer Square, we stopped by for a late lunch/early dinner, but they were only serving happy hour, which has a decent menu. Ordered a strawberry margarita, but couldn't really taste the strawberry flavor, otherwise was good. Ordered 3 happy hour tacos - Carne Asada, Pork Carnitas, Chicken Tinga... flavors were nice, but the tortilla got soggy fast and broke apart. Ambiance was nice with indoor and outdoor seating and the waitress was friendly, solid service. The dinner menu was a bit pricey but expected from a touristy area... the happy hour menu was surprisingly fairly priced. Food is probably a 3.5 star, but I'll round up for ambiance and service which are 4-4.5. read more

The other reviews are right - if you're looking for well seasoned, authentic Mexican food don't come here. Go to a good truck or a hole in the wall with great reviews as this place is overpriced and not at all tasty. We got the chips and salsa to start. All sauces were incredibly bland. Like almost tasteless. The chips needed salt. Mani mani tacos - mediocre and small street size. Definitely don't get this if you're hungry. Same with the Carne Asada tacos. Partner said they were bland as well. The habanero sauce you can request is also pretty bad. Tasted like a bowl of black Smokey pepper soup. Overall, I'm not sure what kind of Mexican food this is as I've had fantastic Mexican food in California and from Mexico itself, but this is not even close. This is some "fancy", small portion, expensive for what you get, watered down version of Mexican food. No need to return here. Wish we had gone somewhere else. read more

I love this place! Last weekend was our second time trying bottomless brunch and it is amazing! My boyfriend does it with alcohol which is $50. I do without which is $39. But I also get coffee and orange juice which I think are $4 each, so price turns out about the same. We started with bacon, potatoes, plantains, and the fruit bowl and inhaled it all. Then we did the salad and flautas. Then we ordered more bacon and more flautas because it's so delicious. Then we went with the huevos motulenos and the chicken tinga tacos. Fantastic. We thought we were finishing so we went with the pan Dulce. Then the chocolate ice cream. But then my boyfriend somehow got hungry again and had the chicken enchilada. Throughout the meal our server kept my coffee full, and I think my boyfriend had about three or four mimosas then two or three margaritas. Came here with a huge party of 13 hungry people and they were able to accommodate perfectly. Heads up tho, we did make a reservation beforehand to make sure we secured a table. Chips and salsa were included for the whole table :D Drinks: STRAWBERRY BASIL MARGARITA -- def recommend. Some places make their margaritas too sweet and make you feel like there wasn't any alcohol in it, or vice versa, but this one is the perfect flavor combination. I'd love to come back and try their other options! Food: TRADITIONAL GUACAMOLE -- FRESH ANDDD REFRESHING. From the very first bite, you can taste that they've perfected this staple appetizer. The housemade chips are the cherry on top, providing a perfectly crunchy and thin vehicle for the guac. SMOKED CRAB GUACAMOLE -- my friends and i honestly thought this would be a gimmick but still decided to try it out cause it's not something you see often. And we're SO GLAD we did!! Chef's kiss. I'm not even a big crab person but it worked soooo well with the guac. Just as refreshing as the traditional, but with a couple extra layers of flavor (1 layer for the crab, and another for it being smoked lol). 10/10 would recommend. Also perfect for sharing among 4-5 people as there's a pretty good amount. LOMO EMPANADAS -- sooo cheesy and delicious. They also came with a side of chimichurri and a spicy red sauce (unsure if that's the creamy guarjillo). I assumed the almonds included in the filling would be crushed/worked into smaller pieces, but there were pretty large pieces of almonds in there lol. You can actually smell the almonds once you cut into the empanada. It took me by surprise but i appreciate that it was something new & different. So far so good! Found this Mexican place on Yelp while walking from Union Station to my hotel in a pouring rain storm. Nothing like a cross country flight to work up an appetite. Seemed like a good first stop on my Denver trip. Started with a Sangria Rojo and followed that with a pineapple margarita. They were still in happy hour so I started with ordering the majority of food from that menu; queso fundido, carne asada taco and chicken Tinga taco with salsa and chips, After indulging in the first 2 courses I finished it off with 2 ears of Mexican street corn on the cob. Great meal. Shelby provided great service and good drinks. I sat at the bar and there was a somewhat lively crowd enjoying their happy hour margaritas salsa and chips. You get a free house margarita if you save the coupon in the back of the DPAC Playbill from each show. It's an added treat. The food is good. I've done bottomless brunch here twice now and it really is good. They have a large menu and you can either sit back and let your server course it out or you can pick your own dishes which id recommend if you're not looking to dilly dally with fruit plates and potatoes (not to say these aren't delightful because they really are). $50 for two hours all you can eat & drink works for me especially given the fact that two cocktails already puts you halfway there on the price. Service and ambiance are wonderful - we sat outside this time and enjoyed the lovely weather. The plantains are amazing - not enough places have them so i'm always excited to see this on a menu. The flautas are served with some of the prettiest bright pink pickled red onions that make the dish one of my faves. Tacos are great too!! For the dessert portion I loveeee the pan dulche which is essentially a Mexican french toast it's so tasty. Only complaint it the food comes out somewhat room temp - I wouldn't say anything we got was hot or even really warm but hey it's all you can eat and you get what you get. We ordered the carnitas plate and shrimp enchiladas. The carnitas plate came with a few slices of pork belly that were harder than a piece of card board, which rendered it practically inedible. The carnitas itself were okay. The shrimp enchiladas came with shrimp that tasted old/about to go bad and we could definitely tell they were frozen. We also ordered the queso fundido which was good, but it was a ~$6 charge for the "chorizo" that was added?! We are fine with paying a steep price, as long as it warrants the food provided but it was borderline ridiculous. Plenty of other options in the square to choose from. read more

Incredible drinks and cocktail menu is full of eclectic options, tons of different tequilas too. 5 of us ate here yesterday; tofu tacos were ok (should have been pieces instead of 1 thick block,) guac and salsa were standard but good, salmon entree was incredibly tender, and my mahi mahi tacos were delicious. Friend enjoyed the chicken tingas tacos. Black habanero salsa (upon request) had an intense, addictive heat. Broccolini was tender with a nice acidity. Rice and beans were a total disgrace, though. For $7, please don't serve the beans in a watery mess of a bowl alongside flavorless rice. All 3 orders were the same like that. We were told we shouldn't each get r&b because it was enough to share but that proved difficult to do since we received wooden rounds with food-paper on them which made it weird to add (watery) food to so those were basically untouched. #wewantplates Really 3 stars for this visit but bumping up to 4 because I feel like they have potential with other dishes and the drink menu alone makes it great to come enjoy a drink and quick snack, if nothing else! read more

Get yourself to this bottomless brunch! I am a sucker for the plantains and bacon, and I could probably do brunch with just that and the mimosas -- but the dishes here are pretty solid. Not too spicy, not too boring, just right for a $46 all-you-can-eat-in-two-hours. We like to get the flautas and enchiladas as well as all the desserts. Bring your appetite. And be kind!
