Unfortunately this restaurant was not on point today. We came in for lunch and the manager had to check if the cook had come in. He had, so we were seated. She said all the food was good here so we ordered the nachos to share. Both the chili and cheese were cold. When the manager asked, we told her. She went back to tell the cook and then he came to our table. He was not happy. Our meal was taken back. After waiting 15-20 minutes with no food, we decided to leave. It pains me to give bad reviews because I hate to see how the service industry has been struggling over the last several years. However, I cannot, in good conscience, let others go in blindly to this place. We entered the restaurant right when it opened. Maybe that was our mistake.... it smelled very strongly of cleaning solution and while there are worse smells, I don't want to smell that while eating. We were greeted by the bartender and was told she needed to check in the back to make sure the chef was there because he wasn't there earlier. (Probably shouldn't say that to the customer?) That was another red flag because even though they just opened, shouldn't there have been somebody prepping food in the back? She came out and said there was and to sit wherever we wanted. She also mentioned they had great food. We ordered nachos and when it came out, it didn't look like anything special. I had one chip with all the fixins and it was cold and tasted like everything was straight out of a can. I thought the temp might be an anomaly so I tried another one and no. When the bartender came over to check on us I told her it was cold. She seemed genuinely concerned and took the plate into the back. Almost immediately, the guy who I assume is the cook came out and said something like "What was the problem?" I said "it was cold." He said, "It's supposed to be. It has tomatoes and lettuce on it." I said, "But the chili and cheese sauce is not supposed to be cold. You can stick your finger down the middle of it and see that it is cold." He then turned around and walked away, clearly not happy. About 10 to 15 minutes later, we were about to leave due to the time it was taking. But the bartender must have either realized on her own that it was taking a long time or realized our frustration and went into the kitchen to check what was going on. She came back out and said that It would be right out. 5-7 minutes later, we left. If it's taking that long, they are remaking something *really* special and I wasn't interested in whatever extras might be added. There are so many great places in Tampa. And I know I'll get, "What do you expect from bar food, PJ?" But I've had GREAT bar food in Tampa. There is no excuse for the terrible food or the chef's attitude. There is no reason for me to come back and try this place again. read more

Fries are just fries... the lemon pepper wings were extremely salty and covered in the seasonings. 6 wings for $10.99 meh- they were hot and just but too salty/ overly seasoned. I love the Tap Room!! It's not perfect but it's a very family friendly place to get a drink and eat some good food. The owner is a sweet heart! We do monthly meetings there and I love that we can give this like minded, local business owner business over brands that don't show their customers appreciation. I think it's cozy and spacious inside. They have the high tables and regular tables, plus outside seating for different types of seating options. There is a back area with pool tables we have our meetings at. For the food I've had the tatters and the pretzel with the beer cheese dip. I like it. I always get a margarita when I go cus everyone can make a rita. The Tap room is not the fanciest place, but it's laid back and the perfect type of place I like to spend my time at. Giving this review as part 2 of our Tampa attempt to find a meal on New Years Eve. Just like Tampa Joes clearly staffing is problem. This is a cool place, small bar a few tables good elevated bar menu. Not sure what was happening with the staff but one woman seemed to be working her butt off, a guy who I thought might have had something to do with the bar played pool, and a customer helped take orders. Well, I consider myself a burger connoisseur, this should not be considered the best of burger in Tampa. The burger was a 7... it was over cooked, the bun was not toasted enough, the 2 strings of onion and wilted lettuce should have been left in the kitchen. I do want to share that if the bun was toasted more... I "might" have enjoyed it better. The meat was average at best, nothing to rave or write home about. The service improved... we waited for 30 minutes and tried to get the servers attention, and she just was not interested at ALL! I got the attention of another lady who was running around, and she was great. She apologized sincerely and then made up for it... it was later we found out she has only worked here for 2 months... which could be why she was enthusiastic... but she was great! They also need a water filtration system... the water tasted like metal...... Why 4 stars? Because both of my very different experiences were great! --- --- --- Visit #1: A busy Friday night, where they were hosting a giant birthday party. There was hardly an empty seat in the house. My fiance and I split 3 lbs of crawfish. Visit #2: I called in a pick-up order of a shrimp po boy on a lazy Sunday afternoon. There were 2 customers in the building. In both of those polar-opposite experiences, Tampa Tap Room was a pleasant surprise. I'd driven past this place 100 times, assuming it was just a food-less dive bar. Not the case! Crawfish: Not the best I've ever had, but we enjoyed it. I don't know too many places in Tampa Bay that do crawfish, so it's pretty great to know that one of them is walking-distance to my house! I'd recently just had the Vietnamese version of crawfish in Orlando, and the crawfish were bigger, with a better flavor. My biggest complaint about the crawfish was that they didn't seem to have a lot of seasoning on them... but every tenth crawfish or so, would have enough seasoning to put you in a coma. Whatever they used, it was so strongly entrenched in my fingers, that when I'd rub my eyes over the next 24 hours, it would still burn. The outer-edge of my lips also burned for quite a while afterward, but weirdly enough, they were barely spicy at all while actually eating them. Shrimp Po Boy: Awesome. The "6 inch" definitely seems way bigger than just 6 inches. It's also much more thick/hearty than any po boy that I've ever had. It appeared to actually be on Cuban bread, which was awesome. That type of non-encompassing bread does make it pretty messy, but I think 'the messier, the better' when it comes to sandwiches. Tampa Tap Room - you've gained a new fan! Went here on a rainy Saturday to check out the beers. Totally impressed!! I consider myself a beer snob and the selection ended up being phenomenal. Enjoyed a Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin. There was Founders galore including Devil Dancer and Double Trouble. Just really good effing beers!! The food was fantastic too! Burgers were outstanding and apps were as desired. I had the stupid wings which were completely as hot as expected (I loooooove spicy food!!). They had so many tasty menu options that I will surely be returning to try. I know they've had issues with the health dept recently, but it was actually more of a reason for me to try it. Cleanest kitchen ever at the moment right?!?! Hey, we've all had roaches in our house before. This is florida. The bartender was also fantastic. Remembered our names and had a great sense of humor. Very attentive and got every order right. This guy deserved a big tip. Constantly refilling water and checking in = awesome. He thoroughly accepted our inappropriate humor ;) Currently the plaza is under construction so finding this place was kind of hard. Parking was easy on a rainy Saturday afternoon once we figured out where this place was located. It isn't closed during the construction but it looks like it. A hotmess. Every single wing was burnt and not edible. The gumbo was just as bad. No flavor and a burnt after taste. I ordered my meal off uber eats and I am very disappointed with the food I received. If I was able to drive up there I would have taken it back. I've been visiting this location for a couple years now and it always has a very laid-back vibe! The chicken wings here are awesome, and i'm very picky about my wings. The bartenders are pretty friendly and I love that this location is open until 3am. I think there's a problem with the sewer or something, because the bathrooms always smell awful, but a lot of places in Tampa have that sewage smell. Also, I wish there were a couple more pool tables because they can fill up quickly. Other than that, I recommend if you are looking for a dark hole-in-the-wall type bar! read more

The wife, her bestie and myself stopped in the other night. It's a casual bar with some great creole menu items. Let me start by saying the bartender Mike made the visit go from 4 to 5 stars. Great at his job. He is a big reason we will be back. We were pleasantly surprised by the menu choices. The beers on tap were good as well. Started with the boudin balls which were excellent. I had the burger with all the hot stuff on it. I think it was the 1798 or something like that. It was very good. My wife had the seafood basket with catfish and it was even better than the burger. The bestie got the shrimp Po Boy which she raved about. Sides were fried and gumbo that didn't disappoint. All in all, we were really pleased and the bill was under 100 bucks with drinks. read more

Who'd a thunk it? I found a great spot for Cajun & Creole food tucked into the back corner of a sprawling urban shopping center in the middle of Carrollwood, and the name of this place is the Tampa Tap Room. The Tap Room, formerly known as Bilmar Station, and then Tank's Tap Room, was reincarnated to the Tampa Tap Room (TTR) and has recently been renovated to it's current state. You'll find TTR in the same shopping center as Bonefish Grill, Panera Bread, and The Melting Pot off of N. Dale Mabry in Carrollwood, but the trick is knowing where to find the place. The pub / restaurant is located close to the newly-renovated Publix, behind the paperback book store, and near the Melting Pot. It's best to enter the shopping center from the S. Village Drive entrance and park near Book Swap of Carrollwood. Walk down the sidewalk into the courtyard around The Melting Pot and you'll find TTR on your left behind the bookstore. The big glass windows are painted over with large murals announcing the location of the pub, but unfortunately that doesn't bring in a lot of natural light. The owners have knocked out the old drop ceiling, which gives the place a more open feeling, but the ceiling is painted black. On a bright sunny afternoon there is plenty of light inside, but late at night I'm sure TTR looks more like a dive bar. Along the right-hand wall is the bar with a ginormous number of beer taps, reflecting their ever-changing selection of brews and craft beers on tap. They also have a full liquor bar, which means that you're not confined to just mugs of frosty cold adult libations. Off to your left are a couple of big pool tables, along with electronic dart games and other popular pub games around the room. You'll see plenty of big screen TVs tuned to your favorite sporting events. There's also an outdoor patio where all of the smokers congregate. I was there for a late Sunday lunch after having read an article about their award-winning burgers and chicken wings, but was quite surprised to see the menu contained crab beignets, boudin balls, blue crab fingers, charbroiled garlic oysters, and blackened wild catfish with crawfish etouffee. Happy, happy, happy!!! I ordered a cup of their gumbo ya ya which combined Andouille sausage, chicken, seafood, and veggies in a deep, rich broth, and that was served over the requisite spoonful of white rice. For my main course I was torn between the jambalaya, the etouffee, the Muffaletta sandwich, the BBQ Shrimp, or a po' boy. There were just too many very good choices on the menu! I finally decided on a fully-dressed oyster po' boy (that means lettuce, tomato, pickles and mayonnaise on the bun along with the fried oysters). For a slight up charge I added a small bowl of red beans & rice instead of the normal side of chips or fries. The food was delicious -- very authentic and extremely tasty. It's nice to know that this place offers so many great Cajun dishes along with their well-respected burgers and wings. Yeah, this is a great place to drink, but it's also a very good place to stop in for some mighty fine Cajun food in the heart of Carrollwood. Laissez les bon temps rouler! read more

This is not your average bar. Although you can grab some of the traditional pub foods like wings and burgers, I love the NOLA inspired creole and cajun options they offer on the updated menu. The owner Norman Haney is a great cook, who has always had a love for creole and cajun food. I am so glad he incorporated some of his recipes on the menu at Tampa Tap Room. Over several visits to the restaurant I have sampled some of it all. The burgers are great and award winning in fact. The wings are pretty good too. Both of which are nightly specials during different days in the week. But I will say that I go to Tampa Tap Room for po boys, red beans and rice, etouffee, gumbo and other Louisiana options like this. Not only is the food good but this place is a local bar, so this is truly a place where the staff makes you feel at home and comfortable. REAL Cajun Food! I wanted to comment on a previous review by John W about the price of the shrimp poboy and see if he actually ordered it or was just complaining about the price without any knowledge about the food. I ordered the half order of the shrimp poboy last night... which is 6 inches instead of 12 of the full size, the half order is still 10.50 and completely worth it! And they do actually 12 inches, unlike Subway that the footlong isn't really a foot. They use large pieces of shrimp and every bite I had a shrimp in it so its not like they are cheaping out on how much they use. The bread was AMAZING! It is actually from New Orleans and used at almost every place in the city.... if you want TRADITIONAL Cajun food, well then everything is gonna have to be shipped in from there and that isn't cheap. I believe even at 10.50 for a half order the price was completely fair. If you want untraditional cajun food then this is not the place for you. I personally have no trouble paying the prices for the amazing food. The ettoufee and bbq shrimp are wonderful as well. If you know REAL cajun food and poboys... you will not be disappointed at all!!!!! read more

I suggest only coming here if you're an aggressive patron. I had to get up and go to the bar twice to ask for the tab, condiments, etc. Twice we waited over ten minutes--for them to take our order, and then for them to come check on us afterwards. The wings were above average. I highly suggest the hot Cajun sauce. Very tasty. The gumbo was decent. My first time having it at a restaurant instead of at home so I don't have much to compare it to. It seemed a little bland to me. The po boy was mostly bread. I had expected a bit more shrimp but this was also my first po boy so maybe I just didn't know what to expect. We both ordered Yuengling and it was barely cooler than room temperature. Both of the servers were also staffing the bar and seemed to spend a lot of time talking to each other and the regulars. The service was very friendly, albeit slow, and the owner was exceptionally nice. He introduced himself to me. We'd go again if we had a coupon or discount or such. read more
