As a child, it was traumatizing. As an adult, it was frustrating, and painful. Dr. Alford, and his staff, provide an entirely different and welcoming approach. When I told the hygienist I wanted minimal polishing paste for the cleaning, there was no pushback, just a simple agreement, professional, no drama. When I mentioned that I did not want ultrasonic cleaning as it was very painful, I was told they already noted that in my chart, and the subject was immediately dropped without pushback. That was a first! Not only that, between the hygienist and Dr. Alford, my cleaning was so thorough that afterwards I couldn't feel any rough spots from my problem areas that get a lot of tartar! My teeth are also whiter than they've been in years. I'm still kind of amazed, because I'm used to LONG sessions, and having to live with sandy areas because that was "The best they could do without the ultrasonic." I am super grateful to finally have a competent dentist to go to where I feel comfortable, safe, and my concerns and wishes matter. Dr. Alford is easy to talk to and put me right at ease, as did his hygienist. I don't know if it's because this is a pediatric specialty office, but the entire staff is naturally kind and considerate. It definitely takes a lot of empathy and patience to work with kids! I used our dental insurance's website to find a local dentist and was pleasantly surprised when these guys said they could get us in the same week. We met first with the hygienist for X-rays and a cleaning. Then Dr. Jackie came in. She was nothing short of amazing. She was soooo good with my daughter and made sure she was comfortable the whole time. Unfortunately, an extraction and a few caps are in our future. But Dr. Jackie explained it all so well and even gave us the option of an alternative to the normal novocaine shot and drilling. We are scheduled in a few weeks to have the work done. Pain started on a Friday and couldn't get into any dentist office over the weekend not even the emergency numbers. We came in first thing Monday morning and was able to get an appointment the next morning. The staff was so friendly and caring. They walked us through everything and went over the payment plans. I highly recommend this place to anyone. It maybe took an hour for everything. They truly care about you and your teeth here. They make sure you are comfortable and not in any pain. **READ BEFORE USING THIS DENTISTRY**…read more Extremely disappointed in my experience with Northwest Reno Smiles and would recommend every single person to turn away or get a second opinion before proceeding with any work from this office. Here's my story... With new insurance came the need for a new dentist. After an initial visit I was told that a routine cleaning would not suffice and was quoted a few thousand dollars for a deep cleaning/scaling. With some research, it was found that the pricing was higher than average but agreed to the procedure, trusting it was needed. After the cleaning was finished, it was recommended that I meet with the offices contracted Periodontist for a post cleaning consult which I was told was protocol after the deep clean. Within 5 minutes of the meeting the Periodontist told me that "due to the severity of my periodontist" I needed osseous surgery in 3 quadrants of my mouth and was given a quote near $20k before insurance. This was jarring. Not just the cost, but the severity of a bone graft surgery given I am in my 30s with no mouth/teeth pain. After requesting my X-rays and records I immediately went to a periodontal specialist for a second opinion. After meeting with the specialist, they found that not only is an osseous surgery completely unnecessary, but that I don't have any signs of periodontist. They also commented on the absolute unnecessary need for a deep cleaning/scaling. It's hard enough to find any person or corporation you can trust but take my advice and stay clear of Northwest Reno Smiles. Absolute scam.

I had an appointment 11 AM and was called into work. So I called here to let them know that I needed to re-book an appointment. I was on hold for about 45 minutes. After 45 minutes and answering service answered. Said they were out to lunch. I told her that might be now, but I've been waiting for 45 minutes. The answering service took my information. I asked her to have the office call me back to rebook the appointment. They never called back. So I just went to another dental office. After about a year, I finally got an appointment and the day before the appointment, I got a message on my answering service that they canceled my appointment for a cavity fill as I had not been to see them for a year. And I need to make a different kind of appointment? That is the strangest concept. You have an appointment for your teeth, but we're going to cancel it so you can make a different appointment for your teeth... So my wife called corporate and someone called back and got a hold of someone at this office and they sorted it out. 2 Star Once I arrived, The girls at the counter are a little rough and aggressive. Maybe they are used to dealing with people that have public assistance or no insurance... Not sure. but wouldn't be the type of interaction I would want in my office. When checking in, the girl asked me to fill out a packet, I told her I've been here a few times and they had the packet. Nothing has changed. She said it's required every year. Just staring me in the eye. I took the packet to fill out, and they told me they would call me when it was my turn. They called me back within five minutes and I had not done near any of the packet. All I was doing was writing things like on file no change and stuff like that. 5 Star In the back, everything changed. Very professional, very polite. The dentist is pretty amazing. Dr. Tyler Pine. I felt comfortable and at ease with him. he had good bedside manner even though the office was quite busy, he took plenty of time in dealing with my issues.
