Dr Sims and his staff are absolutely wonderful! I had tried a number of dentists upon moving to Reno and was always put off by the unpleasant staff at some of these offices as well as the constant upselling. You will find none of this at Dr. Sims office. The staff is friendly and accommodating and they don't try to sell you anything. I love that they run on time and do a great job on the services. They make sure that any pain is minimized and take great care to make sure you are comfortable. Insurance company initially refused to pay for my husband's bridge work on a technicality but the Staff eventually persuaded them to pay the majority of the cost and we received an unexpected check for $2,774 from Dr. Steven Sims with a post-it and smiley face celebrating their successful claim. It's hard to find a good dentist, at least in my experience. We've seen Dr. Sims since we moved to Reno in 2011. He is very thorough and professional, in addition to having a warm and fun personality. The hygienists are excellent also. Dr. Sims has a 3D printer to make crowns on the spot! He is by far the best dentist in Reno I have been to Absolute, & Dentist of Carson city, I had one Dentist glue the same old crown on three times and it fell off I even asked that Dentist in Carson to make me a new crown and he never would. Steve Sims told me he could make me a new crown that would fit in the office and HE DID IT. He has the equipment that is state of the art and he knows how to use it. This new crown fits snug and tight and I believe it is here to stay for a very long time. He took his time fitting it and with the computer made me a great new crown. Well, here we are again. As usual another great checkup and the kidletts loved the experience. Who knew a visit to the dentist could be so enjoyable. All 4 children had a good time. Our 8 year old, Persephone even said " That Steve is a cool dude" always nice to hear your kids like their dentist. While waiting we put on the Disney channel, had hot cocoa and read Highlights magazine to pass the time. The staff took their time answering the kids questions and made them feel at ease. And the best part is Dr. Sims doesn't travel to Africa to kill protected lions. No complaints. read more

I took my 8 years old boy to Dr. Sims to have his cavity fixed. I told them during out last visit that my son is scared of needle. Dr. Sims assured me that this will not be a problem. Well, my son freaked out when Dr. Sims put the needle into his mouth. Dr. Sims said to me, "We do not let parents come in during the procedure. Because it only makes the situation worse. But since you are here, just step aside and let me show you how we handle this." I did as I was told. Dr. Sims explained to son what need to be done and why. He let my son touch the instruments in the hope that he will cooperate. Then he asked my son if he is ready to do it. My son said yes, but quickly got scared when he saw the needle. Dr. Sims then told him again the reasons why he need to tolerate the shot and asked him again if he would do it. My son said no. Then, Dr. Sims said, "You are behaving badly. Your folks will be mad at you. You are not brave." He then took off his gloves and said to me, "I do not want to be the dentist to force him. You will need to take him to a pedicatric periodonist to get his gum fixed. Then you can come back and have me fix the cavity." My son got off from the dental chair. He saw me at once and cried frantically. I hold him into my arms. Dr. Sims saw this and said, "Do not let him get the better of you." Now this does it. I said to him, " Fear is real." My son calmed down after I acknowledge that it did hurt to get shot. I told him that what the dentist said is wrong. He did not behave badly and it is ok to be scared. I told him that he will need to work on his fear and we will go back to see our old dentist in California. He had cavity filled at California. It was not a plesant experience, but it is doable if the dentist is skillful. I will not recommend Dr. Sims to anyone. He is so full of himself. Just because he cannot get my son's cavity fixed, it does not mean that other dentists can't. And my son certainly does not need an expensive medical trip to a pediatric periodonist's office. It is plainly wrong to tell a kid that he has behaved badly just because he is scared. Dr. Sims will need serious study on child physcology and positive encouragement. read more

Dr. Sims is by far the best dentist I've ever been to. He and his entire staff are so nice and accommodating. The prices are very reasonable and they treat you like a friend. Also, they actually keep their appointments, so you're not waiting around ( though the office is very clean and they have snacks!). read more

Steve Sims has been my dentist for just over 20 years. When he moved his office from my North Lake Tahoe neighborhood I followed him to west Reno. While over the years I have seen changes to his staff, his current office manager Monica and hygienist Sharon are always friendly and professional. With the move to his new Reno office he added many new improvements. Most noticeable to me was the digital (low radiation) x-ray machines and a camera that can show detailed pictures to the patient. I recently had a crown made as was so impressed by the new (to me) technology called Cerec single visit crown procedure. His assistant was so friendly and completely competent. Dr. Sims has always stressed my dental care (brushing, flossing and use of fluoride) to avoid costly dental procedures. He has never recommended any treatment I didn't truly need. He is a man of the highest integrity and I absolutely feel that his concern for the health of my teeth and gums is above concern for his practice or income. read more

I first met Dr. Steve Sims several years ago. It was a Saturday and I was in a lot of pain with a tooth that had been bothering me. I had been to many dentists over the years, none of them very great experiences. This left me needing to find a new dentist who would help me on a Saturday. I reached him and to he met me down at his office on his day off to help me. I was so grateful. He has been my dentist ever since. He is gentle, extremely thorough, intelligent, and I have gone from despising going to the dentist to enjoying it! I never thought I would say those words. His staff is always so kind and friendly. Stephen Sims has been my Denists for about 4 years now and I can't say I have ever had a bad experience with him or any of the Oral Surgeons he has sent me to. He has great bedside manners and always has a smile on his face. I am extremely scared of the dentist (don't tell anyone), and him and his staff (Sharon) always make sure I am comfortable and keep me informed on what is going on. My experience at Dr. Sims dentistry was horrible! he was very rough when placing the anesthetic. I kept on telling him that it was painful and the anesthetic was not working. Instead of listening he kept working! The fillings he placed on my front teeth looked horrible and they felt very rough. I will never recommend this dentist to anybody! read more

Worst dentist I've ever experienced, first off the receptionist seems like she is on drugs, so out of it and loopy, when I was getting my fillings done he put silver to fill them before asking me, I did NOT want silver on the front part of my mouth, then he made me buy this $8 toothpaste that I didn't wanna get, he said I had to get it to keep my cavities slow acting then the next day after my appointment I woke up with blisters and puss all over my lips and mouth, (I'm sure they used dirty tools) because that has never happened to me from seeing a dentist and when I called and told them about it they told me "that's normal" gross!! So a year or so goes by and I had an outstanding balance with them and I had filed bankruptcy within that year and I decided to go back for another appointment, I called them to schedule and the dentist himself called me back and told me they won't see me because I had an outstanding balance and I would need to find a new dentist, he didn't care that I was having financial problems before or that I had filed bankruptcy he didn't wanna see me at all, I would never recommend this place to anyone from my experience, just a horrible place and horrible people read more
