Home cooked style Vietnamese restaurant with a variety of dishes to choose from. Store is spacious with lots of big group seatings. Service was great. Got the rau ma for my drink and it was refreshing not too sweet. Was premade in squeeze bottle tho. The grilled beef in betel leaves and vermicelli noodles came with fresh vegetables. Wrapped it ourselves with rice paper. The clay pot caramelized river prawn was super tasty especially with rice. Can taste all the insides of the shrimp in the sauce. The sweet and sour soup was on the sweeter side but came with big pieces of fish. Would definitely come back here to try their other stuff! They did forget an item and charged it on my receipt but called them and plan to get it resolved next visit.

Wow. Food was stellar. Ca kho to and Canh chua was on point. Durian smoothie filled to the brim! Service was alright. No napkins, not enough spoons. They were really lax, you can just grab them from any table. Will be back!

I love love love that they put the chicken separate from the pho for the chicken pho. the chicken is juicy and the broth is very clean tasting. I also tried their chicken goi with bap chuoi and that was so yummy (lots of onion crisps if you like that). I have heard that they can take a while (up to an hour) to give you your food after ordering so keep that in mind. I personally didn't experience that since I came at non-peak hours but something to keep in mind.

I'm a weirdo that loves raw fish but hates most cooked fish. Often times, it can be overcooked and dry...and the smell of kitty can be revolting. BUT, AZN style fish? YAS! Steamed, fried, braised...it's rarely dry and the aromatics mask any kitty smells. Unfortunately, can't get Cá Kho Tộ in the city so Man Jose here we come! (Note: Even tho, a few Viet restos in the city have it on their menus, the owners told me, there's no demand for it so they don't purchase catfish.) Soft opening last week, Phở Gà Tân Định is the newest addition to Lion Plaza (sister resto to Bún Riêu Cua Tân Định). M E N U Specialty: Phở Gà, chicken noodle soup. They also serve your typical apps (imperial and spring rolls), beef phở, bún (noodle dishes), claypot dishes, and lẩu (Viet hot pot). F O O D * Nem Cuốn: Grilled Pork Sausage Spring Roll (2 pc-$9.50): https://tinyurl.com/y833fv2m Fresh, chewy rice wrapper with crisp lettuce and cucumber, tho felt plain. A thicker slice of pork sausage, along with the addition of scallions and fresh herbs, would have enhanced the rolls. Served with a warm, thicccc orange sauce made of ground pork, peanut butter, glutinous rice, and seasoning. * Cá Kho Tộ: Viet Caramelized Fish ($21.95): https://tinyurl.com/2wn65akx And, this is what I came for... Five generous catfish steaks - rich, firm, and tender with a nice crunch from the fried shallots. Each piece soaks up the sticky sauce packed with sweet, savory, and peppery flavor. An order of white rice is mandatory to make it the ultimate Viet homestyle comfort meal. GET THIS! * Cơm Bò Lúc Lắc: Shaking Beef w/ tomato rice ($21.95): https://tinyurl.com/5bnt4dw6 - Requested rare While cooked more to well-done, the shaking beef remained tender. The smoky wok hei came through in the crisp onions and bell peppers. Could have used more garlic and black pepper so the tangy soy dipping sauce did the heavy lifting. Served with savory, slightly sweet tomato rice. * Thịt Ba Chỉ Kho Tiêu: Braised Pork Belly w/ black pepper ($21.95) ($21.95): https://tinyurl.com/yv45umn3 After ordering thịt kho, we were told they had run out of eggs from the day before (bummer!), so they substituted with this pork belly dish. Unlike thịt kho, which features thick cubes of pork belly, this version uses thinner, smaller slices along with shell-on shrimp (which were overcooked). The sauce had a similar sweet-savory profile but more peppery. It was fine but wouldn't get again. * Cơm: Rice ($7) Ordered one bowl of rice to share and received a huge bucket to feed 5-6+ people. Lol! S E R V I C E Very friendly staff, raise your hand if you need something. Everything arrived promptly except the last dish that took a long time. Since the space is so large, providing a water carafe at each table would ensure customers always have water without needing to flag someone down. After eating, go to the register to pay. A M B I A N C E Spacious, 90s classy dining room that can accomodate over 100 people. Overall, Phở Gà Tân Định is off to a solid start - will be back for the Cá Kho Tộ!

Great Vietnamese restaurant! The food is delicious, the atmosphere is beautiful and comfortable, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Definitely a great place to enjoy Vietnamese food. Highly recommend!

Newly opened. Service was super slow. Expect to wait 45mins at least for food. 1 couple stood up and left. 1 of 2 people next to us didn't get we food while her companion finished his food already. They decided to cancel and left. Place is clean with comfortable chairs and spacious high ceiling. We ordered mien man ga, bun man vit, pho ga, pho bo dat biet, and mut satay. Broths were tasty, plenty of soup, and came out very hot. However, I will not have the patience to wait next time.

One of the worse Vietnamese food I've tried in VN town. The service can definitely be better too. We ordered Chicken and intestine hotpot and they didn't give us the chicken until 20 minutes later, claiming "they forgot."

Amazing chicken pho that actually hits the spot 3/14/2026 I've been chasing that perfect bowl of pho for years in the Bay, and I finally found it. Ordered the chicken pho and wow did it deliver. The broth was super fragrant and had that deep, slow-simmered flavor without being overly salty or sweet. You can tell they actually care about the aromatics, perfect balance. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked. They earned a customer for life!!

It's always a good sign of authentic Vietnamese food when I don't quite understand the full menu. It also comes with the whole rice paper wrap setup, where you can grab rice paper and efficiently dip it in water to soften it up. I love that the dipping sauce is in a giant bowl, composed of the classic fish sauce concoction with sugar and some garlic and optional chili. I could honestly drink the bowl of fish sauce if I'm being honest but I'm fortunately more civilized than that. Service is very quick. The food comes out fast and it's pretty efficient. A local friend from San Jose took me here as it's the only place his family ,(originally from Vietnam) will go out to eat. After trying their Bun Moc I see why? Between Saigon and Hanoi, I went on a full-blown bánh cuốn quest, trying different spots almost daily. Street stalls, little hole-in-the-wall shops, famous spots--you name it. At some point I stopped being a tourist and became a rice-roll inspector. So yeah... my standards are unfortunately very high now. The best bánh cuốn I had in Vietnam was paper thin and almost translucent, with this delicate chew that somehow breaks apart and melts in your mouth. That's the texture I'm chasing. Coming back here, the rice sheets were noticeably thicker and didn't have that same delicate texture. They also weren't as fresh and warm as I remembered, which makes a huge difference with bánh cuốn. This is one of those dishes that's at its best when the sheets are freshly steamed and hit your table warm. The meat filling was also underwhelming and not nearly as flavorful or savory as another bánh cuốn spot I've had in San Jose. With a dish this simple, there's nowhere to hide--the rice sheet, filling, freshness and nước mám chấm (fish sauce) all have to work together. It's certainly not bad, and I can understand why people enjoy it. But after eating my way through Saigon and Hanoi in pursuit of the perfect bánh cuốn, this one is kinda meh for me now. My old review gave this place 4 stars. Vietnam ruined me.

We've probably eaten here 50+ times with family and friends, and one thing I can say is that they are 100% consistent. We've never had a bad meal here. There's a great variety of Vietnamese dishes, so everyone can usually find something they like. The chả cá (fish) is one of their popular dishes and a favorite. They also have good chicken phở, broken rice, vermicelli noodles, spring rolls, roll-your-own options, and plenty of soups beyond phở. You can order individual dishes or share family-style, which makes it especially easy when coming with a group. It's very casual, family-friendly, quick, and straightforward--nothing fancy and probably not where I'd choose for a date night. But for a dependable meal with family or friends, it's a great spot. Kids like it, parents like it, and my mom likes it--which says a lot coming from an older Vietnamese person who knows her Vietnamese food! The staff is always efficient and nice, and after all these years, the food remains consistently good. The biggest downside is parking. The entire shopping center has become so busy with restaurants that finding a spot can be overwhelming, especially during peak hours. Also, keep in mind they do not take credit cards. Bring cash, or you can pay electronically through options such as Zelle/Venmo. Overall, this is one of those longtime neighborhood restaurants we keep coming back to because we know exactly what we're going to get: good Vietnamese food, plenty of choices, friendly service, and consistency.

Unfortunately, the service was not very welcoming--the staff came across as blunt, impatient, and at times rude--but I could have overlooked that if the food had fully lived up to the hype. The broth made a good first impression and clearly included many of the right spices, although it was also quite salty. As I got further into the bowl, however, the flavor started to feel flat and lacked the rich, slow-simmered depth I expect from a restaurant that specializes in this dish. It tasted more heavily seasoned than deeply developed, so experienced bún bò Huế fans may find it underwhelming. The meat was also not as tender as I would have liked, and the congealed blood--usually my favorite part--was overcooked and dry rather than smooth and tender. The visible holes suggested it may have been cooked too quickly at too high a temperature. Overall, the meal was decent and had some good flavors, but the broth, meat, and service did not meet my expectations. It's not outstanding, but it's definitely enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service ruined the experience. As soon as I sat down, I hadn't even had a chance to look through the whole menu before the server kept touching my shoulder and repeatedly pressured me to order.
