Fresh Ethiopian coffee - must have
    Kim P.

This is the perfect hole-in-the-wall restaurant for you to enjoy traditional Ethiopian food and coffee!!! Service on a Saturday afternoon was great and the food came out timely and super fresh. The vegetarian delight is so fun to eat and share. If you've never had Ethiopian food before, the injera is a spongy flatbread that I would best describe as a sourdough crepe haha. You use that as a way to grab onto your food with your hands and eat that directly (no utensils!). It's a very fun (and messy) experience. We also ordered the chicken dish to add to our vegetarian dish and it complimented it perfectly. The Sambusas we had (both veggie or meat) came out piping hot and yummy as well. And finally, the coffee is made fresh - it is like an espresso that's very rich and powerful (to be enjoyed as is or with sugar). Also, at the time of writing this review, there is a fun surprise in the bathroom (the sink's faucet has a fun display) that you'll have to experience for yourself haha. I hope this restaurant survives forever and I can't wait to support them again.

My first time trying Ethiopian food was not too shabby! I was shown to this place by a coworker and thought this could be a chance to try something new for my love of cultural foods. Tana Ethiopian Restaurant located in Anaheim, at the intersection between Magnolia and La Palma. The area was kinda weird and had an off-vibe to it, and we thought that they were closed because all the windows were tinted super dark from the outside. But when we stepped in, this place was a cozy mom-and-pop shop with one lady greeting us who we assumed was the owner of this place. There was not a lot of customers even during the lunch rush hours, and the parking lot seemed pretty empty. We got the Vegetarian Delight and some Sambusa to share. The base of the main entree was called "injera," which is a staple Ethiopian food that was made from teff flour. She gave us a basket of extra injera on the side as "utensils." We picked up the food using these pieces of injera with our bare hands. The seasonings of these foods were more of a curry-like, warm-spices based feelings, something that I was definitely not used to, but still very interested in trying. Sambusa was a deep-fried, thin, flaky dough stuffed with lentils and a kind of meat, like ground beef or chicken. Although I'm not really fond of the kind of seasoning that Ethiopian foods use, we did enjoy the experience that we had here at this place. Customer service was really nice and prices were ok overall. I'd recommend that you come here to try the food and learn a bit about the culture if you are in the area! Super cool!

So I would love to give this place 5 stars for the homemade and loving vibes, however I can't and I will explain in a moment. To start everything tasted wonderful! I have been craving Ethiopian food ever since I found it in San Diego years ago. I finally eventuate to one of the locations in Anaheim and was glad I did. I went with my significant other and a bother couple and we both opted to share combination trays and are we glad we did because we got to try so many wonderful dishes. Seriously everything in Ethiopian cuisine is so flavorful yet so different from one dish to the next and the mechanism for eating the fermented crepe is so much fun and so unique! That alone will make me keep coming for Ethiopian time and time again. Also, my bf and I shared a sambusa, do yourself a favor and get yourself one! So flaky and wonderful (they have meat or potato we got meat). So the factors that lost the star are 1. My friends drink had something floating in the water cup that looked like rice or some sort of grain. Either way never good to find unnecessary things in beverages. 2. Everything was only like warm when it came out which normally when I have had Ethiopian it's almost to hot to eat from stewing all day. And 3. We could see and hear the microwave being used to reheat everything up from where we were seated. So all those things aside everything had such unique flavor, good price, and the lady running the spot was so sweet. So definitely check it out from the stance of some good take out where you can reheat everything to your temperature liking, but maybe skip the dine-in experience.

Yummy and unique! Stellar friendly service. 10/10 There are only a few Ethiopian options in LA, and this is definitely a winner! The food is so fresh and flavorful, and the bread... omg, we ate the whole basket. The space was clean and the staff was professional and helpful with answering any questions. I highly recommend a visit!!

Vegan and vegetarian platter was so

Ethiopian food has a wonderful flavor, good for those who do not want hot and overly spicy food. Served with injera (made from teff grain) -sort of a bread type crepe that you use to scoop up the different portions. Great for a group of 4 friends. The vegan/vegetarian platter was so good that we did not miss any meat (can order meat dishes too) and it was absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended with nice decor.

Amazing vegan friendly food, friendly owner and family feel. Incredible flavors. Can't wait to come back

I had been to Tana over 10 years ago, and finally made it back! The interior looks very nice post-renovation. There was only one woman (the owner) taking orders and preparing the food, and she was juggling four separate tables when we arrived. Nonetheless, she was very friendly and provided excellent service. Like many restaurants at the moment, Tana is short-staffed. The menu is not too too big, but there is a good variety of dishes and prices are very fair. We ordered the combination which comes with all veggies and two very tasty meat stews. All of the food was very tasty, and I definitely highly recommend Tana if you're in the mood for Ethiopian!

The food here was really good, but the girl was a little condescending when I said I had never eaten there before (which I find surprising that she would find it surprising that I had never been there considering it was empty for the hour and a half we were there on a Friday night). But again, food was delicious. We got the vegetarian Delight and the lamb. Normally I don't eat peas, but these peas were wonderfully flavored and not too mushy. I also really enjoyed all of the decorations throughout the dining area. The Sambusas were delightful pockets of warmth and the Tej was delicious (essentially a mead). The restaurant was a little dirty and the microwave was audibly being used to heat foods (even though we were the only ones there, so who knows how old the food was). Lastly, the prices on the menu did not correlate with what I was charged. (At least $1 up charge per item).

The food was too good. One of the best Ethiopian restaurants that I have visited so far. The owners were nice and courteous as well. Loved the vegetarian special platter and the vegan sambusas. My SO tried this cuisine for the first time and he just couldn't stop telling how good the food was! :) We ordered the vegetarian plate, so obviously had to wait for a little while and it was totally worth the wait. Will visit this place again for sure.

This restaurant surpasses them all. We came to celebrate my friend's birthday (she eats here all the time, has lived in Africa for years, and knows the owner and his family) and ordered the vegetarian combo, okra, Awaze Tibs (beef), hot bubbling Tegabino shiro, and a fried sambusa (lentil filling) appetizer to share. The flavors and seasonings used in the veggie dishes and beef had a nice balance and went exceptionally well together. The injera bread was fluffy and had a good mouthfeel, with enough bounce and texture to pick up and hold the delicious food and sauces together into the perfect bite-sized morsels. Injera bread was so good that I would eat this plain. As a sourdough flatbread, their injera was not overly sour nor dry. We also finished 2 bottles of Ethiopian honey wine, which was less sweet than I expected and closer in profile to a light Chardonnay, than a sweet wine. Wine was a perfect pairing for the food. As far as beverages go, they have a small selection of beer and wine in the menu, along with Ethiopian coffee/tea which is freshly brewed to order. They also have a nice traditional coffee/tea setting in one corner of the restaurant and I was told they provide a special freshly brewed coffee service on weekends. Definitely a top recommendation from me, for authentic Ethiopian and Eritrean food. My friend informed me that this restaurant is a labor of love/care from the owner, who had a very successful engineering career before he opened this restaurant, which was a dream of his to share the foods he grew up with to the local Ethiopian and Eritrean community. Even more reason to love and support this restaurant! We went on a weeknight for early dinner and it wasn't crowded. Plenty of parking as they're located in a small shopping plaza.

The lack of reasonable time limits for rooftop seating, the apparent favoritism toward certain customers, the painfully slow service, and the disappointing quality of the food all contributed to an unacceptable experience. I understand that some customers may come primarily for the rooftop view and may be willing to overlook mediocre food and poor service because of the atmosphere. I am not one of those customers. A beautiful view does not compensate for low-quality food and inadequate service, especially at the prices your restaurant charges. Perhaps instead of defending the experience, management should take these criticisms seriously and focus on improving the food, service, and overall treatment of customers. A great location may bring people through the door once, but good food and good service are what bring them back.

I loved every bite we had, especially the gomen (braised greens), cabbage and carrot, and the kik alicha. The dereq tibs, though? That was AMAZING. Tender beef, sweet stewed onion, the perfect amount of spice from the serranos. I loved that the dish is accompanied by senafich (a spicy, horseradish-y mustard) and mitmita (a DELICIOUS chili powder that I want to put on everything lol). The beverages were delicious, I love an arnold palmer and this one is probably the best i've ever had with their spiced tea. Their coffee was decadent and strong and perfectly balanced. And the banana split! I am not usually one for dessert but I knew I needed to try this and I'm SO glad I did. A symphony of textures and complex flavors. We may or may not have used our fingers to get the last bits from the dish. The place itself is like a little oasis from the hustle and bustle of the strip mall outside. This was super tough a rubbery, which is a disgrace and also impossible to eat with injera. But all the food was overspiced, which is a shame for any cuisine, let alone a the shining peak of deliciousness that is Ethiopian food. Let the ingredients shine a bit. Lentils are good, split peas are good, shiro is good. I get it that we are far from Fairfax here (let alone DC) and it's a great intention to bring Ethiopian to Eagle Rock, but for those that have eaten and cooked Ethiopian you are going to be disappointed.

I got this via delivery and would have loved to try it in person. I'm a big fan of Nigerian food so…read moreI was happy to find this place. I ordered their fufu combo which comes with egisu, goat meat (there are other options if you wanted something else), and fufu. I wanted Eba as well but they didn't have anymore. Instead they gave me an extra fufu. The Egisu was really good! It made me so happy to enjoy this lol. The spices were wonderful and not overpowering. The fufu was smooth and doughy. The goat complemented all the other components really well. The only downside were the hidden chunks of bone in the meat. I crunched down pretty hard and was shocked that I didn't see it coming. Otherwise the food was amazing and I'd order it again! Also got fried plantains and they were a nice way to complement the meal.

The egusi was amazing and the fufu ball was perfect consistency, light and moist, a wonderful cloud to accompany your egusi. The egusi was my favorite, but the rice, fish and plantains were good too. There are plenty of tables, seating and parking. I loved the small but private parking lot. There is pretty are on the walls and a TV playing if you want entertainment. The ambiance is peaceful and tasteful. Service was kind and friendly. There was a man who was very helpful and considerate of our lack of knowledge. He made recommendations and we asked for low spice--and the spice level was perfect in the egusi! The egusi had just enough spice for flavor but not too much to ruin out meal for us (spice wimps!). We are thankful. This weekend we were just passing Long Beach, but we will definitely return again, looking forward to more Nigerian food - worth the trip just for the food.
