My husband and myself (we are of Indian decent) have been coming to the lunch buffet for years, especially in the summer months. That ended yesterday. It looks like new ownership or management have ruined this trusted place. The food was ok, not special to write home about and the specials are no longer there. You get attitude with the people serving you like asking for Naan is like asking for gold. Then much to my displeasure I saw the most god awful site that I have ever seen at an Indian restaurant on another Indian person. A business guy came in and asked for a buffet to go, which we have done too, to enjoy at home. This guy looked like he was taking back to work. First of all, the owner guy berated the guy for taking the food, first taking too much goat. I looked at the container he gave him which was very small. Then he complained when the guy took more than two pieces of tandoor. To complete the problem he gave the guy a small dish container to put in the dessert. I could not believe the baloney he was giving the guy. I must give the guy who was Indian all the credit for not telling the guy off or be nasty back to the owner. But seeing this side of an owner of a business complain and hassle a guy of his own heritage just trying to get food, is unacceptable. This was the last time we will ever go here. This new management or owners are not spending our money on. Besides the food is not that great anymore either. I would rather go to the one on South 27th or Bluemound with just as good food, or should I say a bit better!!!!!! read more

The food is absolutely delicious!! Since my boyfriend is Indian, he knows all the great Indian restaurants in MKE and surrounding cities (even as far as Chicago!). Comes with the territory, I guess. :) Anyways, back to this little gold mine. You walk in, and your first impression isn't like, whoa 5 star, but let's be real, I came for the food, and as long as the place isn't dirty, I'm satisfied. You can chose where you want to sit while an employee asks you how many in your party (in our case there were 3 more people who had yet to show up), and if need be they push a couple more tables together for you. And then it's time to tuck in! Like a regular buffet, grab a plate and dig right in! A lot of variety and my favorite Indian dishes were present, love me some chicken tikka masala! After you're seated, a waitstaff member brings you the best naan in the world, so fresh and delicious tasting, I could eat just the naan and be happy (I love carbs, in case it wasn't obvious), and asks if you want anything besides water (sodas, beer or wine). Eat as much as you can handle, stay as long as you like, they'll keep refilling the naan, and you never feel like they want to push you out the door. Their chai is wonderful to sip on after the meal, I took a page out of the BF's book and added one packet of sweetener to it, and oh my goodness I could drink it all day. I will definitely be frequenting this establishment again, and if you're in the market for some delicious and authentic Indian food (for a very good price, under $10/person), then you need to stop by and check this place out! read more

UPDATE: Earlier I rated this place 5 stars but last three visits for buffet have been really bad. I called them at 2:00pm & found out that buffet is open till 3 and I was there at 2:15pm. It was a terrible choice. They were out of Goat Curry and Naan Bread.. I asked them if I can get some more Goat curry & Naans. They lady said they are out. The buffet is small, but has good stuff. The goat curry while tasty, has a lot of bones. You won't look particularly attractive having to pull bones out of your mouth on a date. I found both the chicken masala (??) and the tandoori chicken to be pretty dry, but my date didn't think so. We went here all the time - but never did the buffet. We know what we like, and they've recommended some good ones to us too. Whenever we craved Indian and didn't want to go far, this is where we headed to. Ownership changed about a year ago, but they've kept the same staff and pretty much the same menu. Our faves: Paneer shahi korma Chicken tikka masala: cubed chicken Chicken mughlani: similar to tikka masala but shredded chicken instead Goat curry Onion and Garlic Naan Mango Rose Water Mango Lassi My husband loves the flat cracker (popadums?) with 3 sauces/chutneys that comes out in the beginning too. I have driven past this restaurant many times because I grew up in the area so I finally decided to go in and try the food. ** And as a side note, I used to not like Indian food but as of late, I have grown to love it and have gone to many Indian restaurant in the metro Milwaukee area** When we walked in, we were greeted and seated right away. It was not super busy when we arrived (around 12:30 pm). The buffet was small. There was a decent selection of food. Since I've been to other Indian restaurants, I had high expectations on what the food would taste like. But when I sat down to try the food, I was severely disappointed. The food seemed to lack flavor. The chicken tikka masala just didn't look right but I wanted to try it anyway. The sauce was not good. The rice I had put the chicken tikka masala on was hard & crunchy, which I don't think rice is supposed to be. Really good Indian food at reasonable prices. When I try a new restaurant, I always like to order my favorite dishes for that type of restaurant so I can get a good baseline for the quality of the food. For an Indian restaurant, those dishes are chicken tikka masala and chicken curry. I ordered these dishes and the garlic naan for takeout. Every item was really good and had a good blend of flavors. Tandoor makes these dishes almost exactly how I'd like them to taste. The meals were around $10-12 each and they are well worth it. The portion sizes are pretty good too. Since they make my favorite dishes so well, I think they probably have some other dynamite meals that are hiding on the menu. Thanks to other Yelpers for the reviews leading me to Tandoor. As mentioned, the decor is bland, but the food more than makes up for it! The complementary popadums are served with a red onion chutney that I wanted to slather on everything. I ordered samosas, and the three goodly sized samosas brought to me were sealed in a crisp and flaky crust, reminiscent of really tasty pot pie crusts. For my entree, I had the saag paneer, with a side of made-to-order naan. I am a big eater, meaning that I usually can find the bottom of my plate and my wife's too, but the entree and its lovely basmati rice were the winners of that round. I went alone as I was traveling for work, but if you ar going as a couple, I suggest ordering an appetizer and splitting an entree -- but get the naan. Num-num-num-aste. read more

We had the lunch buffet last week, every item was excellent and the price was reasonable. the atmosphere is not awesome, but the food totally negates that, service was good for the buffet, waters were always full and dirty plates collected quickly. Having never really had Indian food, I let a girlfriend talk me into getting takeout from here last night. And since I'm currently devouring my leftover chicken vindaloo, I figured I'd review this place. The decor is a bit scary--it looks very dark and plain--but the smell when I walked in was absolutely mouth-watering. We called in our order and the lady at the front was prompt in taking my payment and handing us our food, which was ready and waiting. Everything was piping hot and fresh, even after the drive home, and none of us had any complaints about our food. My vindaloo has just enough spice to be interesting (I'm a wimp when it comes to heat) and the naan was delish. This place is our regular go-to for Indian food. We love the food. I can't eat anything spicy, so when we ask for mild, the food is - in fact - mild. The fish pakora is divine; I would eat this as a "fish fry" on a Lenten Friday - moist and flavorful. My favorite dish is the shrimp masala. It has lots of big shrimp in great sauce. I went for Buffet lunch at Tandoor today after reading the rave reviews. Being a North Indian, I think I've the authority to determine whether an Indian restaurant is serving authentic (or near authentic) Indian Food. Given the fact above, Tandoor is definitely not even near the good Indian Stuff (they primarily serve North Indian menu) and coming from NYC, I would say that the food as as good as the worst Indian food you can get in NYC (even in NYC, you have to hunt for the better Indian restaurants) Here's the true verdict: Tandori Chicken: Undercooked, flavorless - Worthless! Chicken Kabab: It wasn't even a kabab. I don't know what the hell it was and how can they even call it kabab. Goat Curry: The only thing, I can say I liked on the whole buffet. Goat was soft & tender & curry was OK. Dal: OK Veg. Biryani: OK Chicken Tikka Masala: Not even close to teh real deal - Worthless! chicken was clearly not fresh. (same goes for Tandoori Chicken) Pakora (Indian veggie fritters): were kinda good with chutneys & pickled onions Kheer (Rice pudding) : was good Masala Tea: I liked - close to real North Indian chai. I'm giving them 2** for the variety & that I liked the options of Green Salad, chick Peas salad, Raita (Yogurt based), pickeled onions & green and red chutneys. Verdict: $10 wasted! This is the first Indian restaurant I've been to, since I moved to MKE (a few days ago) and if this is the best restaurant (per the reviews) - I'm never going to eat at any Indian restaurant in MKE region. I'm still fairly new to Indian food so it was perfect for me to go during lunch for their Buffet. Everything I had was delicious. There was an excellent variety of new things to try but also the traditional indian dishes which most people recognize (samosas, chicken masala, palak paneer, etc). To date, this is my favorite place to go to in the Milwaukee area. The restaurant itself is quite plain, nothing special but it serves its purpose. Tandoor is hands down the best Indian restaurant in Milwaukee. Don't let the modest storefront and interior fool you. The flavor of the food is awesome, the service is great, and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend the samosas, paneer masala, vegetable korma, chana saag, garlic naan, chai tea...the list goes on!! As far as heat goes, ordering medium will get you some solid spice. This is my favorite Indian food restaurant in Milwaukee. We get take-out from here at least twice a month and have tried several other Indian restaurants, none of which compare. The Chicken Mango is my favorite- a wonderful mix of spicy and sweet (I order It medium spicy, but if you are timid on spice, definitely order it mild.) Their 3 chutneys that they serve with their delicious papadam are the best! The reviews that are lower on here must not be reviewing their actual food off of the menu because it is wonderful! read more

Good masa bread, delivered to the table. The food is pretty good - the Chicken Tikka is the best I've had at the area Indian restaurants. The only complaints I had here were the extremely high humidity level (during winter) in the restaurant, and the uninterested attitude of the wait staff. Owners were least interested in addressing the customers...out of the entire buffet options not even a single item looked fresh..every item had an oxidized layer formed on top.. My husband and I are huge fans of good Indian food so we thought we would give this place a try tonight. We live about 30 min north of the restaurant so I opted to pick up a called in order. I arrived to pick up my order around 4:35pm. The building it's in is a very small building that consists of 2 or so other business'. Parking is in the back of the building by the service doors, not too customer friendly. The entry way leaves much to be desired. Very dirty, dark glass, I would have never guessed I was walking into a restaurant had I not looked this place up. I'm wondering if that would explained why the place was empty with the exception of the very nice employee who greeted me with a smile as I walked in. I told her I was there for a pick up and she knew right away what I was there for, unfortunately for everyone else, I must have been the only called in order. The inside is in need of some major updates. The bar looks as if it hadn't been used for some time. I paid for my order and left a tip, I'm sure the woman who helped me cooked it as well. On the way home, the aromatic odors filled my nostrils with delight. I was excited to get home and sample my feast. Here are the items we ordered; Garlic Naan and Onion Kulcha: Both were delicious however the Kulcha was no different than the Naan, but you could taste the difference. The Naan was a pungent garlic flavor that wasn't too overbearing. The onion was twice as good. I recommend both. (We ordered all our dishes as medium hot, but you can get as hot or as mild as you'd like) Chicken Makhani or Butter Chicken: A classic Indian dish. Small pieces of chicken, too small in my opinion, in a creamy tomato curry sauce. The sauce is very thick and is very flavorful. It was good and I would order it again, but was I was the least impressed with it and Chicken Makhani is always my favorite. Lamb Shahikorma This dish was absolutely delish! It is lamb cooked perfectly in a herb and ground cashew cream sauce and I was in heaven. The lamb was perfect. Nice meaty chunks and just the right tenderness. The seasoning to the sauce was delightful. Medium spiced was just right for me, anymore, I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. Chicken Saagwala I love spinach. Just love it. And I think spinach is one of the most perfect accompaniments to a good Indian dish. And basically, that is what Saag is, spinach. This dish came with larger pieces (larger than the Makhani) of chicken, again, the perfect size. I would prefer this size to the Makhani chicken size. This is not a side dish by any means. This dish can stand alone. It was the best out of all three and the spiciest, surprisingly. It was full of flavor, I mean full. The spices were perfect as was the texture. I am in love with Saagwala. The chicken was tender and delicious. I can not rave enough about this dish. I did discover that they threw in two containers of rice, one large and one small, that was great. The traditional Basmati Rice was light and not at all sticky and flavored with cumin seeds throughout which was a great touch and certainly not overpowering what so ever. They also gave me a container of Gajar Halwa, which is a carrot dessert. The only thing that would make you recognize it as carrot is the color. It was nice and perfectly sweetened with some type of white frosting that wasn't much sweeter. I don't think I would order that when I go again, but not because it's not good. It's just not my thing. Give me carrot cake :) All in all, I really enjoyed the food from this restaurant and I would definitely would order out again from there. As for eating at their restaurant, I don't know if I'm that daring. I like the concept of not finding out who the man behind the curtain is. Yes, ignorance is bliss. Because this food is way too good to pass up on because of the location and condition of the restaurant. read more

Ignore the shabby appearance and the strong flavor of curry that wafts through the entrance, pay no attention to your co-diners whom you will certainly hear in the banquet hall type of setting that affords practically no privacy, gaze but fleetingly at the stereotypical Moghul paintings randomly placed on dour white walls, and concentrate only on the delicious dining options that this Indian restaurant affords - breads, rice, entrees - they're all good here! Service is quick, the price tag is oh-so reasonable for respectable portions - go hungry and I promise you will leave satiated. Today's work lunch was tandoor. It was carry out so I can't speak of the service or physical restraunt. Over all every one liked the food. We all had something different. The non vegetarian platter with 4 fish, 4 chicken and 4 sausage looking thing looked interesting. I had the lamb vegetable in hot curry sauce with basmati rice. The rice was that nice individual firm grain and not clumpy or mushy which I like. The lamb vegetable curry was good and hot. My eyes watered but I didn't head sweat like other hot stuff. My only complaint is that the vegetables were over cooked and mushy. If the veges were some what crisp like some Chinese restraunts do this would get four stars. The lamb ratio to veges was good and they didn't fluff the dish with mostly veges. A Chicago cheff that is my friends father turned me on to curry many moons ago blows this away but he is retired and there isn't a lot of curry dishes on most menues so this was nice. Some Chinese places have Singapore noodles which scratches my itch from time to time for a curry fix but it's not meaty. The dish cost $12.95 and was piping hot when it got to me. I would like to sample more of the menu because I like to eat different things. The last time I had Indian food was in Chicago on touhy ave a long time ago and it seemed more authentic but I'm no expert on Indian food so maby I have to try other Milwaukee Indian places and offer reviews. I went there on a Saturday evening and for a moment I was put off by the shabby appearance of the building. Inside the decoration and ambiance or lack thereof was not surprising. I was quickly seated, only one other couple was dining. The service was efficient but without typical American traits of smiles and chatter. While I'm not an expert on Indian food I found the tikka masala among the better ones I had and the naan was delicious. I finally went here for the first time yesterday during their lunch buffet and WOW, I was not expecting to be so impressed. Literally every single thing I tasted was ten-star delicious. I've been to a lot of Indian restaurants and the buffets usually serve the same dishes in all of them, but Tandoor's had a significant amount of ones I have never seen before! It was like eating Indian food for the first time all over again! I really loved the experience of trying new foods. The buffet was only $10 and came with masala chai tea. It was mostly meat dishes but there were a few vegetarian dishes, as well. Great samosas! I went around noon on a Friday and there was a pretty steady stream of customers, which is a great sign. Thankfully, there's a parking lot in the back, so you don't have to park on Hwy 100. The restaurant itself is pretty plain - not a lot of decorations; but the service was good and the food, unbeatable. The menu says the lunch buffet is 7 days a week, so I'll definitely be coming back on a weekend with a friend. :) read more
