We came for lunch on a Sunday afternoon, just beating the lunch crowd by a few minutes. The restaurant offers a wide variety of dishes and we opted for the steamed dumplings as an appetizers, soondubu jiggae, and yukgaejang. Their banchans were OKAY, the kimchi was good but the fish cake tasted a bit dried out. The steamed dumplings was the best thing I ate, followed by the yukgaejang. I was disappointed with the service during my visit. I called for a server multiple times, and one of the staff members appeared to see me but did not respond or acknowledge me in any way. Later, when I was ready to pay, I called again, but the staff member was busy eating and did not respond. I eventually had to walk to the front myself just to pay my bill. The food was fine, but the lack of basic customer service made the overall experience frustrating. At the very least, staff should acknowledge customers and let them know they'll be with them shortly instead of ignoring them. I hope the restaurant improves its service. read more

Tang Jip has been on the to-try list for a while. For my 2024 birthday, my friends Sarah and David treated me to dinner here on Oct 22. It wasn't too busy when we walked in at around 6:10pm. We were quickly greeted and seated. The spacious interior was very clean and simply decorated with Korean-themed items. The lone TV was playing the latest K-pop videos. Their menu featured a decent array of typical Korean fare. I ordered the seafood soondubu and chicken bulgogi combo. Sarah got the spicy pork bulgogi à la carte while David went with the beef bulgogi and plain soondubu combo. What I had was pretty decent. The seafood soondubu had a good amount of shrimp, calamari strips, and clams in it. It was spicy but not overwhelming. The chicken bulgogi had good flavor, but the meat was on the dry side. I tried some of the spicy pork and beef bulgogi and they both were flavorful. Portions were moderate for the price. Service we received was alright. The staff were friendly, responsive, and prompt. Overall, I thought this place is decent for NorCal standard. Worth a visit if you are in the area. Honestly amazing food. The food was flavorful, had a kick, and left me satisfied. The rose rice cakes were pretty spicy, I wish it came with more bacon because there was like no meat I think they could've added a bit more. The meat was tender and the cheese really breaks from the spice. I loved the glass noodles and onions, really gave lots of different textures. Service was a bit slow. We loved our first experience at Tang Jip and decided to head back with the family for round two! Unfortunately a lot of the food just fell short this time around. This is nothing like our first experience over a year ago. Service and ambiance were still roughly the same, but a lot of the food was just subpar this time. I'm not sure if we came on an off day or at a weird time (early dinner, around 4-5pm on a Saturday), but even food that we loved the first time around (like the seafood pajeon) was way less enjoyable this time around. We also tried a number of new items, in particular two people had beef soup and this was VERY bland. It was not only lacking salt (which is fine because you can add your own), it's just clear that they did not use enough bones to make the broth or did not allow it to simmer long enough to get full extraction. It was literally like subtlly-flavored beef water, which is not at all how Korean galbitang is supposed to be. It's supposed to be rich, deep with extracted flavor, and complex - it wasn't any of those things. We also had the kimchi soondubu and had exactly the same issue. It was brought out not as it typically is - which is still with a rolling boil. Overall, while we still enjoyed the atmosphere, the food is a far cry from our last trip a year ago. I'm not sure what happened, but that's a shame. We likely will not be returning any time soon. read more

Located in the same strip mall as 99 Ranch. Interior is pretty simple and clean. We were seated immediately on a weekend afternoon. Service is fast-- and their little service robots are funny to watch meandering about. ROSÉ TTEOK-BOKKI (requested no bacon): This. Is. INSANE. Like they mixed vodka pasta with rice cakes. The way the creamy sauce coats each QQ noodle is divine. If it weren't so heavy I could eat this again and again ;u; Large portions-- definitely to share. OX BONE TANG: The epitome of comfort food. So flavorful and savory, with thread-like thin noodles. Has that silky collagen texture without being too thick. This was perfect for a cold winter day. This review is for their take out service to eat Ordered the Brisket Seollangtang, because I was in the mood for some noodles and something soupy. It came with a container of rice, green onions, sides of banchan like fishcake, broccoli, kimchi and soy sauce pickled onion, the smallest serving of noodles and bone broth. The portion of broth was perfect with the rice but the amount of noodles was comical, it was about a soup spoon full of noodles. They provided banchan but failed to provide salt and pepper. Their kimchi is on the saltier side. Seollangtang needs to be dressed up to your preferences or else it'll be on the bland side. A few slices of thin beef brisket was given as well. Definitely not the best Seollantang or take out I've had. The price was steep for the meal. Would recommend ordering something else if you do opt for take out. Ordering however was easy. But I had to ask the waiter for napkins since it's not provided at the table. Rice cake that comes with galbi jim was soggy. Perhaps overcooked them. The flavor was on the sweet side. Tang Jip is on our regular rotation. The food is great quality and comes out relatively quick. I liked the banchan they had on rotation, especially the bok choy kimchee, Napa kimchee & fish cakes. Their seafood pancake is crispy on the edges and they include a lot of seafood. My favorite dish is probably the bossam - I love the radish, green onions & samjang. Coming from San Jose where there's no shortage of amazing Asian food, we were so happy to stumble upon Tang Jip in Concord--it's truly a gem! The service is always fast, and the food never disappoints. We've had the bibimbap (even ordered it as takeout before), and it's just as satisfying at home as it is fresh from the kitchen. The beef galbi combo with the cold buckwheat noodles is a favorite--the galbi beef is tender with that perfect smoky-sweet BBQ flavor. The pajeon (green onion pancake) is another standout. It's generous in size, fresh, and crispy on the edges. We couldn't finish it all in one sitting, but it reheats beautifully in the air fryer--almost like having it fresh again. Tang Jip used to be Tang Tang Tang like the restaurant in Las Vegas because the owner used to work there. Must've had some sort of falling out if they had to change the name. Either way, IMHO both Tangs are equally amazing. "Tang" in Korean is pronounced more like "tong" and it means soup. "Jip" means house. So Tang Jip literally means Soup House. But Soup House doesn't sound as fun as Tang Jip, that makes me want to sing, let me see that "Tang Tang Tang Tang Tang". The funny thing is that when we tried Tang Jip we ended up ordering the seafood pancake and bossam with bottled makgeoli and soju. The side dishes came out first and it was surprising to see that they were using one of those robot servers. A Tangs-former haha. The side dishes aka "banchan" were hella legit. And the seafood pancake and bossam were very good. Next time we may actually try their soup haha. So yes, the food was so good that Tang Jip made me want to say Whoooooo! Haha Wu-Tang. Services gotten worse during my recent visits. Was standing by the door waiting to be seated, while the two servers were hiding, standing behind the kitchen area on their phone chatting with each other. Without any greeting, they just pointed to the side and said "any tables". The blond ponytail server could really improve her attitude. She slammed our meal on the table and just walked away. When she was bringing us our next dish, her hand was in her hair scratching her head???? There was no one checking on us during the meal, had to grab a togo box ourselves. Food's not as good as it used to be, but employees could really use some trainings. My friend and I are on the hunt for a good Korean place out here in WC/Concord. The bar is pretty high because our go to places are in oakland, and they are all amazing. Tang Jip is the first place we've tried and it was mostly ok. Despite being on the yelp waitlist, the check in process was weird and out of order. They were also very understaffed. From the check in, to putting in our order, to even paying, it was underwhelming. Things we tried: *Bulgogi - it was fine. My friend liked it more than I did. It was lacking something for me. *Tofu soup - my friend got this and he was a bit meh on it. He thought it was too much oil, too little tofu. *Potstickers - these were good! *Bibimbap - this was good, but it didn't get crispy at the bottom, which always makes me sad. Came in on a Friday night, just before 8pm with my boyfriend. Restaurant wasn't too busy. Walked in and it took a minute before a worker came to greet us. Got seated quickly. We got the tofu soup and bulgogi combo and the rose rice cakes. The rosé rick cakes can be eaten as an entree. Also came with banchan which was good. Food filled us up. One of my favorite Korean spots in Walnut Creek! The vibes are great--modern decor, clean interior, and I love how they play K-pop on multiple screens with different groups on each one. It's fun, lively, and feels current. The menu is pretty extensive and what you'd expect from a solid Korean tofu house. The standout for me is 100% their rose ddeokbokki. Instead of the usual short rice cakes, theirs are cut more like chewy noodles--almost udon-like--and it makes the dish so unique and satisfying. The sauce is creamy, flavorful, and just chef's kiss. Other go-to dishes include the seafood pancake (crispy and loaded), their classic tofu soups, and their Korean BBQ, which is also solid. I haven't tried the entire menu yet, but what I've had so far has been consistently good. Pork doesnt usually give "fresh" tasting, but this plate along with the ingredients does a great job at that. Its basically a steam pork "build your own taco" plate, but make sure to put EVERYTHINGGG because each ingredient makes the bite so good! Cheese Gamja Jeon (Korean Pancake with Potato and Cheese): super yummy!! And the side of yogurt didn't seem appetizing with the dish, but was surprisingly so good!! There are many restaurants in this area that we like to frequent, so it was hard to find a time to try out Tang Jip for the first time. I'm really glad we did! Got to the restaurant right when they opened at 11 on a Tuesday during the holidays and we were able to order, eat, and get out by 11:50 to make a noon matinee at the theater. The vibe - a normal Korean restaurant but with K Pop playing and multiple TVs showing different K Pop videos. All our food was delivered table-side with a robot which me and my kids thought was awesome. The food - My favorite thing was the galbi-tang lunch special. There is more stuff in this thing than soup, but it makes the soup super rich and meaty. The two giant beef ribs that come with the dish were very tender. The seafood pancake was a thinner and less robust (softer) version than average. It was packed with seafood. Would recommend as an interesting alternative to the really crispy versions I've seen that I enjoy the best. Dumplings come in a steamer with 5 enormous portions. Banchan was solid - kimchi, radish kimchi, fish cake, seaweed, broccoli. Broccoli was a bit overcooked, but nitpicking here. Overall, very good experience. Was hesitant to try this spot just because I haven't had the best of luck with Korean food out this way but I am so happy to say this is a great spot. The food was delicious and the service was nice especially considering how busy it was. Our food came by robot which was a fun experience. I ordered the bibimbap with beef and it was so good. My favorite thing is that they serve it in the cast iron bowl which makes the rice get crispy. I also had the Korean pork and it was semi spicy but not bad and so tender. They also serve you a bunch of side dishes and all were so good. Every table was sat and everyone I noticed was leaving happy and full. The food going to the other tables also looked so delicious. I finally tried Tan Jip, and I was impressed! There are many Korean restaurants in Concord, but the main difference between this restaurant and others is the different dishes this place offers. This is what we ordered: -Combo Soon Tofu + LA Galbi 4/5: The galbi was delicious, but the combo soon tofu was not my favorite. They actually made a mistake and brought us a beef soon tofu, which we tried before realizing it was the wrong one. They took it back and brought us the combo, which comes with meat and seafood but was not as flavorful. I wouldn't get this combo again, but I would get the beef one with the galbi. -Mackerel 3.5/5: it is grilled fish. The flavor was good, but it was just a bit dry. -Rosé Tteok-Bokki 5/5: I loved this dish! The sauce is delicious! I highly recommend it. It comes with an egg, udon, and fish cakes. The kimchi is fresh, but not too fermented and the fish cake tastes homemade succulent. My favorites here are the seafood pancake, the galbitang, and their oxtail tang. We also tried the galbijim which was good in its own way, but if I were to compare it to daeho (which happens to be opening in the same plaza soon), it's less saucy and sweet. I love this place. Went to Tang Jip for the first time and I can't wait to come back! Excellent Korean food, lots of menu options, good banchan, great service, in a clean restaurant with plenty of seating. We were seated right away on a Sunday night around 6pm. We enjoyed everything we ordered: Cheese Tteok-bokki (4.5/5) - the cheese pull is so satisfying, and the rice cakes are perfectly chewy. This is listed as an appetizer but it was a huge serving! As a side dish, it can be shared by up to 4 or 5 people. There were only 2 of us so we took home leftovers, and it filled an entire large soup container. The spice level is mild. Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake) (5/5) - This was the highlight of our meal! Packed with seafood, served hot, and tasted great with or without the dipping sauce on the side. Spicy Pork + Soon Tofu Combo (4/5) - this combo was a good value at a decent price ($25.95). Two of us split this and we still had extra pork to take home. The soon tofu had a nice spicy kick to it, even at mild level. We also got a small side of white rice with this, that helped level out the combined spice of the pork and the soup. Wonderful first visit to Tang Jip. The showstopper this trip was the Rosé Tteok-Bokki. It was a hefty portion and split well between two. It's a rich carbonara style base with all your favorites of a traditional tteok-bokki. We ordered lunch portions of Tofu soup dishes and I got a side of LA Galbi. Everything was seasoned well and tasted great. A small detraction was service time. They appeared understaffed that day and tables waited to make eye contact or wave someone down to get attention.
