We've now come 3 times. The restaurant is located in a huge plaza with plenty of parking. Now the details: The first time, the food was 5/5, hands down the best galbijjim I've had. The next two times were disappointing. The meat was overcooked, no longer falling off of the bone, and dry. Additionally, the place is severely under staffed as there was a constant 4-5 tables that needed to be cleaned at all times. First off, BOSSAM!!! Located in Willow Pass is a new spot that features Tang (Tang Jip lightly translated into Broth House). And while I wanted to try their Galbitang and other soups, my family was craving Traditional Korean dishes. First off, the inside is modern and clean. Love the simplicity and minimalism. KPOP plays on the screen up top. Love the vibe. Servers were good, although on a Sunday night, severely under-staffed. I would normally dock them down for the lack of service we received, but I could tell, from the young ones to the mama-san's, they were hustling. No one was slacking. All the food was delicious. The items that stood out though was the Tteok-Bokki in Rose Sauce. Holy sh*t. I've ever had it this way, and it is amazing. The bossam is the first I've had in the East bay that isn't dry AF. Delicious. And I could tell by the delivery robot, a lot of people were ordering it. Lastly, the banchan. I'm a big believer in the less they give you, the better the banchan tastes. That is the truth here. Only about 5 items, but they were all delicious. I 100% will be back, especially to try their soup when I visit the bay in the winter for Christmas. I recently dined at Tang Jip and overall, the food was good. I ordered the seafood pancake and fried dumplings--both were well-prepared and flavorful. The service was prompt, but I couldn't help but notice that I wasn't served any banchan. At first, I thought it might be because I was dining alone or maybe because I ordered 2 appetizers and not an entree, but I later saw two other solo diners receiving banchan BEFORE they even ordered! They also never came by to refill my water. It was not busy. While I enjoyed my food, the lack of banchan and the fact that my two appetizers totaled $40 left me feeling a bit disappointed. I've returned to my side quest of trying out all of the new Asian restaurants in the Concord Park & Shop. The variety of regional Asian restaurants to choose from is unmatched in the East Bay. The ambiance was spacious, warm, and nicely done. I didn't have to wait and was seated as soon as I walked in the door. They're known for their braised beef bone broth soup and it was absolutely amazing. The richness and the flavor of the soup was literally "the essence of beef". Visited Tang Jip over Memorial Day weekend and had a great experience! The food came out quickly and the flavors were solid across the board--but the Spicy Galbijim stole the show. Spicy Galbijim - Added Cheese and Glass Noodles: 10/10 Absolutely delicious! The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, and the sauce was rich, savory, and perfectly sweet--not really spicy, but super flavorful. Loved the addition of cheese, glass noodles, rice cakes, and tteokbokki. My only complaint: the veggies were a little underdone. Otherwise, incredible! Rose Tteokbokki: 7/10 Creamy and comforting, with long, thin chewy rice cakes that were a nice twist. Not my favorite, mainly because I'm not a big fan of bacon, but I can see this being a hit for others. Beef Soondubu-jjigae: 7.5/10 The broth was flavorful and delicious! The beef, however, was a bit tough. I also wish they cracked the egg in for you--the soup wasn't hot enough to cook it fully on its own. Not a fan of the cubed zucchini, I prefer it sliced. This restaurant is located in the Willow Oass shopping center right next to JoAnn Fabrics. This has a lot of competition since this mall also has Ohgane and Korea House which are also very good Korean restaurants. However, this actually holds its own. Galbijjim was what I really wanted to try but for a small it was like outrageously priced think at 72.00! So I skipped it this time since we ordered so much already. We ordered the following: Fried dumplings- 4/5 with a great spicy sweet sauce to dip in. Kids love this. Japchae- better than most places bc they filled it with various vegetables including wood fungus mushrooms which is good. So this jap chae is better than other restaurants in the area. I liked that it was filled with different vegetables. 5 stars. Soon Tofu( think they forgot to add my Kim chee) soup combo with beef and I asked to add Kim chee. They forgot the Kim chee but I didn't realize that at first because it was spicy, but realized after there was no Napa cabbage! It was just ok 3.5 stars. Soon tofu soup which is great on a cold winters day or if you are sick! This was a combo with galbi. Galbi was very good. 5 stars. Pork bulgogi was good but liked galbi better. 4 stars. A bit gritty in the spices and sauce. Dol Sot Bim Bop was a 5 star because egg was perfectly fried and full of various vegetables- liked the variety of vegetables- zucchini, carrots, green leaves Chinese vegetable which was good, purple cabbage even, mushrooms, etc. Banchan was good with a different variety than others but I liked it! I want to preface this review by saying I normally LOVE Tang Jip and will likely continue to visit. However I am unfortunately leaving this review as my experience picking up an online order today was absolutely unacceptable. I had came in and waited by the host table near the entrance for about 2 minutes without any greeting (totally fine as it seemed it was just 2 people working the dining room) Finally, a female waitress with blonde hair came to acknowledge me, and this is unfortunately the part that is causing me to leave this review. Her initial greeting was an extremely deadpan "hello.." with no smile or expression. When I told her I was here to pickup an order, her response was a snappy "what?". So I repeated myself and showed her the receipt on my phone. She then said "okay, well it's over there" and rather than simply going over to get the order for me, pointed to the kitchen counter and had me walk over there to get this. As I was leaving and walked by her (and believe me, she definitely saw me), she then said nothing, no "thank you" or "have a nice day" or anything else. If I could, I would leave a 1/5 star purely for this one employee as I feel her customer service mindset is absolutely lacking, if not outright disrespectful. This completely soured the pickup experience and I would not want this person to be my server if I were to dine-in. This is my go-to Korean spot in Concord - I do venture of to various spots (Korean or not). However, their spots are delicious and a plethora of options - I am always trying a new soup from them. (And not soup can be found in the bay..) And they have a quick turn-around time (however, might not be the case always nor am I advertising/recommending quick lunches!) which is sometimes a deciding factor when I want enough protein-vegetable ratio/a good meal and might be jam-packed at work and am opting for a shorter lunch. Delicious dining at Tang Jip last night. We were craving ac on a 100 degree evening. The dining room was spacious, modern and did not disappoint. Five types of banchan were provided and they were all well-made (especially the kabocha). We ordered Soon Tofu (extra-spicy) and Pork Bulgogi combo. Both were delicious. The bulgogi was quite oily but perfectly cooked with abundant marinade and the thinly-sliced pork very tender. Kimchi Jeon was tasty as well (could be slightly crispier) and beautifully presented with dipping sauce. Excellent service provided by cheerful staff and robot. Banchan refilled promptly. They also have a robot to deliver your meal to the table. Large restaurant with simple, modern decor. Good-sized for larger groups. House music is playing. Two TVs showing K-Pop videos. We came in for a little snack, so we decided on... Haemul Pajeon: Korean Panacake with green onions and seafood. Slightly crispy outside, and you could see the squid/ octopus and bay shrimp in this pancake. So delicious. The dipping sauce was good, too. Seolleongtang: Beef Brisket Tang: Soup made from beef bones with slices of beef brisket, Korean noodles, and egg. No egg in the picture nor dish. Otherwise, brothy soup that warms the soul. The noodles were ok, as I felt they were a bit soft. This came with a bowl of steamed rice. The banchan was good. The dishes were mostly spicy dishes like the kimchi, spicy cucumbers, and spicy radishes. My wife couldn't eat any of that. I was sold on the food here as soon as I saw the picture of the Rose tteokbokki and it didn't take much to convince the rest of our group to come here after showing them the food pictures. Coming in, they were packed, so it shows the food here deserves the hype. Most tables only sat 4 max but the server was kind enough to try to get us in within 10 minutes so we wouldn't have to wait too long. It was a bit hard to choose the food, but that's only because everything looked so good. The rose tteokbokki was as good as it looked in the pictures. The places I go to tend to make them mild to not burn their guests, but the one here had a really strong kick to it. I was pleasantly surprised and couldn't get enough. It was quite addicting for me but keep in mind you might be asking for water a lot with this. The beef tofu soup I got was piping hot and ever flavorful. Just like the rose tteokbokki it also had a strong kick, but the soup makes it easy to eat. The kimchi pancake was very flavorful as well. We love the beef bulgogi, but the pork and chicken bulgogi are great too. Their spice level is legit. Their spicy is comparable to the black buldak ramen. I can only deal with medium. My new fave is their Rose tteok-bokki. It's soooo good. It's not as spicy as regular tteok-bokki bc it's creamier. It comes with bacon, egg, and fish balls. I love it. Their service is exceptional. Concord has become the most interesting town in the Bay Area. When this happened, I cannot say. It may have always been the coolest, although that certainly is not its reputation. Despite what people may think, you can vouchsafe that places like Oakland and Berkeley have no where near the cultural cache of Concord, CA. Contributing to the municipal richness is Tang Jip, "Broth House" in English. Located in the plaza formerly anchored by Fry's Electronics - may it rest in peace - is this very good Korean restaurant. They have everything. At first spec, it may seem they have too many items. When a menu gets too broad, there often isn't enough support for each and every item. This doesn't seem to be the case here at Tang Jip. A Korean restaurant doesn't typically serve sullangtang and soodubu and tteokbokki. These are usually parsed out to seperate genres. But the people at Tang Jip aren't shy when it comes to genre bending. The mul naengmyeong is the slushiest I've ever tasted. They are more generous with the brisket and pickled dongchimi that go in this soup than most other places. The bossam is also wildy generous. Thick hewn slices of pork belly go with sweet and spicy raddish, garlic chives and raw garlic - which is also sliced thick. The L.A. Kalbi is seared to a nicety on the gas grill. They are also one of the first restaurants to embrace robotics. My food was delivered, not on the customary cart-on-wheels, but by a genuine robot. Really enjoyed my meal here at Tang Jip. My favorite part of the meal was definitely the high quality side dishes. I liked every single one and would come back just to be able to have those again. The tofu soup was a bit watery and I couldn't taste a strong beef/seafood flavor in the broth. I ordered the set meal, so that might be why. My partner got the beef and seafood tofu soup and still said it was a bit watered down in taste. It was still good as I am a soup girl! The pork was good. We also ordered a seafood pancake which I thought was crispy and filled with seafood so really nice. I wish I ate more on the day of because it didn't crisp up as much in the air fryer next day. This place is really good I initially got something that I didn't quite like. The ox knee soup is more traditional and cultural, but I didn't know anything about that so I couldn't appreciate it. When I called the restaurant, I told them what I was expecting and they knew exactly what I was talking about and very gently explained what I'd ordered versus what I thought I was ordering. I kind of timidly asked them if they could do something to fix the situation because it was my first time there and if that was the note that I was gonna be left with I knew that I probably wasn't gonna come back. I really appreciate the way that they handled the situation. It wasn't their fault that I ordered the wrong thing, but they accommodated my lack of knowledge anyway, and prepared a whole new dish entirely free of charge for me to pick up when I got off of work what I ended up eating was the short rib soup, and it was delicious. that is exactly what I was hoping to eat and I'd simply order the wrong thing. What they did to corrected was beyond what I expected and I really appreciate it. It is my personal opinion that this place is awesome and the staff is friendly and the food is really really good quality. The place was clean, and there was a package of wipes on each table. We were given menus and water right away. My friend had already been here three times and said everything she's tried tasted good. We ordered the seafood pancake (sauce was also yummy); Rose Tteok-bokki (we couldn't request a different spice level but it wasn't too spicy, and it had a good flavor) jap chae; LA Galbi & soon tofu soup (mild); and stonepot bibimbop. On a quest to find good Korean food in the east bay, Tang Jip was next on my bucket list. They have lunch specials, which seemed like a decent deal and is a good way to try both tofu soup and different bbqs. My bf and I opted for the beef SoonTofu ($21.95) and bulgogi combo & the combo SoonTofu with galbi combo ($25.95). Portion size was decent. Tofu soup (add $2 for meat on the tofu soup) was decent, but the bbq quality was on the cheaper side. Bulgogi, in particular, was extremely fatty and had a lot of grisly pieces. Flavor was blander than typical bulgogi flavors. The galbi was slightly better taste-wise, but also quite cheap in terms of meat quality. We were served 5 banchan side dishes: kimchi, radish, fish cake, broccoli, and some sort of potato salad with peas. Decent overall; kimchi was probably the best of the five - tasted quite fresh so it wasn't super fermented. Not sure if they do refills, but since they never checked on us we didn't ask. Service was nonexistent beyond ordering our food. Server seemed unhappy to be there and we were never checked on besides to pay. At the end of the meal, when my bf was in the bathroom, she suddenly came over and asked me if I was ready to pay. I was taken aback but I said sure and she whipped out the handheld automatic card reader. Note, every other table around me got their receipt printed out before they paid and no one I saw paid via the handheld card reader, so I don't know why she pressured me to not only pay immediately but also via the handheld card reader. In the Bay Area where great Korean food is abundant, this place didn't really stand out and the service left a sour taste in my mouth, so I probably won't be back. Ambiance: Super spacious restaurant with lots of tables and robots delivering food to the tables. It was a very loud and casual environment. Service: 1/5 -3 waiters serving the full house but the service was almost non-existent EXCEPT from the female waitress. 1 of the male servers saw us from across the restaurant having our hands up for attention and straight up IGNORED us. I wish I could've gotten his name because that happened not once but THREE times. -We weren't served any side dishes (banchan) until the female waitress noticed it while she was walking by with other dishes and decided to come back around and give us some. -We asked for a water refill from a male waiter and he took the bottle but gave it back to the table next to us. -Flagging the staff down for ANYTHING was literally impossible. Came Here for the first time to meet long time friend. She hadn't eaten here either but suggested the Galbi Jiim and we got it spicy. Omg the meat was so soft and so flavorful. You could tell it had been braised for a while. They torched the cheese on top tableside and it added to the richness of the dish! The two of us couldn't finish it so I brought the rest home to my husband. He literally licked the bowl and every bone clean, it was that good! We also had the Rose Teok Bokki and it was super creamy and yummy. I thought it was unusual to have the longer noodles for this but it was still tasty (just harder for me to pick up with chopsticks because I'm not the most skilled). If I weren't driving back to Stockton afterwards I probably would have really enjoyed some soju too. This restaurant was almost empty when we got there at 4:30 but by the time we got out a little after 6 on a Saturday night, it was packed! People were waiting for tables (I didn't realize how long I had been catching up with my friend). They have robots that deliver the food to the tables, but the staff still takes it off the robot to give it to you. Can't wait to come back and try some other dishes. Honestly, me and my home girl love this place. The food is really good and we enjoy every part of the ambiance provided here. There's so many options and the flavors here are what you would want in your food. We always order a la carte anytime we eat Korean food because how can you just eat one dish, when there's plenty to share. And I honestly can say that the food here is reallllly good. I just didn't like how I had to kind of ask them for many things (i.e. our table did not have napkins, and extra bowls since we wanted to share soups). Tang Jip serves up Korean comfort food that hits the spot. I've gone twice for their lunch specials--each time left full, happy, and slightly poorer (more on that in a sec). The soondubu (tofu soup) is rich, cozy, and just spicy enough to feel like an achievement. The spicy pork bulgogi is flavorful and tender, and the side dishes are varied and delicious--like a mini parade of fermented joy. Yes, there's a robot that carts your food over. Just don't expect something from Star Wars (yet). As such, some find it disappointing (sorry, Mom), while some find it cute and entertaining. I haven't branched out to the rest of the menu yet, but I'm definitely coming back. That said, I'm docking one star because the lunch special price made my wallet raise an eyebrow. Food was served so fresh right off the stove. Everything was very tasty. The tonkatsu was delicious and not dry at all. Beef bulgogi and chicken bulgogi were very flavorful and not full of sauces like most places. This place was so clean they had wipes at the table and all spoons and chopsticks were covered.
