Tania's starts my tour looking for the best Carne Asada in Tucson, and it was not bad! Not great, but I wasn't offended. A tad bit dry, but flavorful and good quality beef for sure. The service was alright, average I guess? The spot had a real home like feel, reminding me of the many hole in the wall mom and pops in California that I miss. Heard a lot about this place....go by it on the reg grocery shopping at Safeway...would never go back. Ambiance/cleanliness-dingy strip mall. Acceptable. 3 stars. Was looking for a spot to have a chorizo and egg burrito for breakfast. Needed something to fill me back up after a morning at Saguaro National Park. This was the closest spot when I started to get real hungry. You got to the counter place your order and they deliver it to you on a disposable plate with plastic flat wear. Nothing fancy here but the food was fantastic. Almost as good as my nana used to make it. For those that don't know, nana is grandma. My burrito came with salsa and a little green with tomato. The burrito was so good I only used half of the salsa container. The only reason for the 4 stars is I'm a coffee drinker and the coffee was not fresh. So when you come here for breakfast, get a soft drink or a drink from the cooler. Plenty of parking, reasonable prices, very friendly staff. read more

Don't you hate it when you order the wrong thing? I went with the three taco special at $6 and some change. They tasted like a fancy version of Taco Bell tacos. Not even lying. They were tasty and filling but, goodness me, I'd been eyeballing this spot for a year and thought I would be blow away! But Tania's -- a family-owned business specializing in Sonora-style cuisine -- had lots of other things going on! So, no, maybe don't order the crunchy tacos (I thought the tacos would come on flour or warmed corn tortillas; meals like birria and pollo are offered). The menu has much, much more to offer, including burritos, carne asada fries and both red and white menudo. I even love the disclaimer on the wall asking that patrons be patient because the food is cooked with time and care. Seems like the go to items, besides the tortillas, are the red and green tamales. A half dozen goes for $8.50; $16.50 if you want to take the full dozen. In addition to tortillas and chips, they sell their own masa and chorizo on site -- both in little bags kept in the fridge out front. As for the space, room is ample. It seems that most people order to go. There is a television set toward the rear set to a mildly loud volume. You are bound to catch soaps and news -- local channels only, it seems. Also, Tania's serves Pepsi products, and also jamaica and horchata. I was also happy to see a single coffee maker on site. They also sell donuts and empanadas. And they cater. FYI: I understand that this Tania's is related to the ever-popular Tania's 33 in town. But I hear that different family members own the two locations. read more

I was extremely satisfied by this place. I got a giant breakfast burrito for about nine dollars and it had everything in it. The customer service Of this place was outstanding and very helpful in my ordering. I will definitely be here again. They were pretty busy during breakfast, but I don't know about lunchtime or any other time. The portion sizes are very big and I heard that the Menudo is the best in town. I will definitely have to test that out. Still in Tucson, so checking out local fare, weekends to me mean Breakfast Burritos/Tacos. So checked out this spot on a mid-Sunday Morn, located next to a drive liquor store in an older strip mall. Due to Covid19, call in only for pick-up, placed order over phone easily & was told 20 mins. Parking lot was full with a non-stop stream of customers coming & going (good sign). The Patrons were of different ethnicities, leaning towards Hispanic (another good sign). Around 20 mins went in to pick-up food, interior was clean & organized. The set-up was definitely Covid19 precautions in effect, space in line, plexiglass shields between Staff & Customers. Our food was ready, very polite & friendly staff. Our bag was packed nicely with plenty of napkins, and sauce in container inside of a ziploc bag (nice touch) as we definitely eating in our vehicle. The cashier said hope you enjoy & come back again (lost art nowadays, so appreciated). I ordered the Cochio Breakfast Burrito, definitely tipping the scale at least pound. It had everything you could pack into a delicious tortilla, fresh with hint of crisp. It was rough, but I was able to finish it for the team. Felt like I was on "Man against Food", I won, but probably don't need to eat till tomorrow. My wife loved her Chicken Burrito, she definitely wants to come back. The sauce was delicious, just enough spice to enhance the Burrito flavor. My next visit will try some other more specific burritos in a smaller version as my wife's burrito was amazing flavorful, mine was very good, but flavor was spread out due to size? I hate to write this review, I loved Tania's, it's in our hood; but, after several 24 hour bout of "repercussions" of the Chile relleno burrito, I really have to say it out loud. Something has changed at this restaurant. Sure the tortillas are huge, but the fillings have gone downhill considerably during the last 10 years. And the prices up. We can't eat here unless we have a bottle of pepto and some rolaids to wash it down. And even then, we're in the "baño" for most of the night. Eat at your own peril. OMG, who is reviewing this place? How off could they be?!? First off no tamale and tortilla with chilaquiles, no tortilla with huevos con chorizo, the chorizo is tasteless, the chilaquiles is a pile of mush, the menudo has no flavor. also ordered 2 dozen tamales...after warming 2 of each, threw out the rest. under cooked and what a mess...do you have no idea how to construct a tamale?? and yes having a wife from Chihuahua and owing a very prominent, AUTHENTIC, mexican restaurant, we know the difference. OMG...the breakfast burritos are awesome, possibly the best in the state and I get around. Grab some tamales to go before you leave, the red beef are some of the best I've ever had and 2 make a great meal. I had the joy of having tamales from this place today at a potluck. My co-worker says this is a great place inside. The people are friendly and the food is usually good. The tamales that I had to day were an exercise in authentic deliciousness. I had some red beef tamales with green olives inside and some green chili and cheese ones. They were really good. Hands down the absolute worst Mexican food I have ever had. Everything was salty and cold. The rice stuck together in one giant chunk and was overcooked and mushy. The beans had cheese on them that never even melted. The tortilla was gummy and undercooked. The red chile beef was overly spiced, cold, salty, and the sauce was way too thick. We were so disappointed with our order. Our son ordered the Nachos and the chip were stale on top and soggy on the bottom (soggy was to be expected with the juice from the meat that they were soaking in). My carne asada burrito tasted more like slow cooked meat not asada. Husband's chorizo and egg burro was mostly egg with a sprinkle of chorizo. And the tortilla for burritos were thick and cold. Came for the 1st time to this location and it is small & cozy...almost feels like home. It is clean and the people are friendly without being overpowering. I never had their chorizo and they gave me a sample...didn't even have to ask. It was great. It also appeared as though they had free refills with coffee, soda, tea & aguas. We drove about 10 minutes out of our way to this place to get some fresh authentic tortillas to take home with us to Phoenix. It is in an older shopping center. We were excited to see there was a line in at this mom and pop kind of place. We ordered a couple of bags of fresh tortillas and were thrilled to be handed steaming hot fresh tortillas. We took one tortilla out to eat as we headed back to our car and quickly noticed that while they were hot they also lacked in flavor and were unfortunately dry and extremely salty. Worst experience ever! Besides the terrible customer service experience the food was horrible. How hard is it to cook beans and rice? The beans were bland, the rice had a weird taste and were mushy! Mushy Spanish rice? Like the first time I did it when I had no experience. Come on get it together! The customer service, however, is what did it. We waited at least 20 minutes, had no hurry. Not only did they forget to place our order they were rude about it. My boyfriend went to ask and the managers response was "I don't know what happened to your order, I didn't take your order". Food is usually good. Thank you COOKS ONLY!!! Customer service has always been lacking. If they happen to mess up your order and you have to waste your time/gas/money, don't expect a sorry or any offer of making it up for their mess up. Also don't take anything they may tell you seriously such as the incorrect item will be ready for you when you return. But they will ask you several times if you called the right Tanias. Maybe a little more attention to people's orders instead of worrying if people called the right restaurant. And maybe reconsider your idea of fixing YOUR MISTAKES.
