Wow! Driven by here so many times and finally stopped in. So yummy. Wanted a round two Sunday but they were closed. Had Sonoran hot dog, Yaqui taco with carne asada, and a deluxe bean burrito. Hot dog was outstanding- better than Guero Canelo. Soft bun hiding the chargrilled dog surrounded by beans, pico, mayo, mustard ... everything that makes these do addictive. The taco has so much filling you can easily make it into two tacos. Condiment bar is fantastic!!! One of the toppings was an interesting cucumber/mushroom relish with a slight soy sauce flavor. Lots of salsas to choose from - we tried them all and they're killer. Looking forward to a return trip soon. read more

Aqui Con Nene comes up a lot in discourse over good Carne Asada as well as being a great Tucson staple. I will say, that Nene isn't a bad resturant. I mean, is it a must try? No. I think you can live in Tucson, or visit Tucson and never try this place and you'd not miss it. I will say though the Sonaran Hot Dogs are good. The Al Pastor is good. Those definitely are solid options. But none of it is great. Not to the degree of giving this a high marked review, you know? It's definitely "Tucson Good". Which to real foodies, is barely okay most of the time. I've been to this location several times, and finally just stopped. Even had a date here. The service has never been exceptional, it's hit or miss on cleanliness, and the food is just okay. The Carne Asada is absolute trash, and I despise that it's mentioned as one of the best in the city, cause it is NOT. See my other Tucson reviews as I go out of my way to try Carne Asada here. Tucson is home to some of the best Mexican food, and Aqui Con El Nene is a great example of that. It's been a while since my last visit at this location, so I stopped by on a Thursday night. It wasn't too busy, and the service was fast and friendly. You order at the counter, and they bring the food out to you. They also have a salsa bar with a variety of options. Everything was stocked and clean. I ordered two Quesabirria tacos ($5.85 each) and a Horchata ($4.32). Everything was soo delicious. I definitely want to visit again and explore more of the menu. Great spot to stop and get good quality Mexican food. Their tacos are delicious! Their carne asada is good and the al pastor is as well. The cabeza tacos are good and I've had them in the past but this time they were a little bland but still good with some salsa and cilantro and onion from their awesome salsa bar. We just tried Aqui Con el Nene, after seeing all bunch of YouTube videos in this establishment and it was amazing. I had a Taco Chicken Yaqui, which was delicious, but I have to warn you, you'll have to use the provided utensils. It's two tortillas with a Pablano pepper loaded with your preferred protein. We also had the Sonoran Hotdog and the Birria Tacos. Everything was delicious and reasonable, well worth a visit. A wonderful place to grab a quick bite to eat, we love going for a lunch break. They employees are always very nice and they work quick, food comes out shortly after you order. Although I have been to this location for lunch before.. I had the pleasure of taking my bf who had never been before. It was nice that they were open later than I thought which was nice . Everything was delicious as always. Service was fast and friendly, everything was clean inside. After experiencing the lunch rush most times it was nice to come in and get a seat at one of their big solid wood tables. Salsa bar on par also! This was a goto place when before I retired to go with friends from work. I was missing it, so I headed over for some tacos. This time I got the 3 taco combo (#3). Each taco has a different filling (i.e. asada, pollo, and adobada. I got all of them on flour tortillas (corn was the other option). There is a self serve buffet for fixing to add to the tacos (e.g. cheese, mushrooms, salsa). All where great, but liked the adobada the best. In addition, I got a small quesadilla again on flour. I've been traveling Baja, Komiefornia, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas over the last 30years. This by far has been the best Mexican food I've had in a while, best ever in Arizona, and definitely better than New Mexico and Tejas. We order Tacos, a Torta, a Specialty Chile Taco, and a unique Hot Dog. The Hot Dog caught me by surprise. Wasn't expecting Carne Asada(marinated tender flap meet). Crazy good! The Torta was just as good. That meat prep is phenomenal. My wife had the carne asada tacos and the chile taco. Looked and tasted awesome(I snook a bite!). And the wonderful full line of condiments with the well grilled peppers and onions... beautiful!!! It's a nice spot, next to another Mexican food spot that was also jumping, but Aqui, it's not your normal Albertos, Heriberto's, Himbertos, you catch my drift. I walked here mid afternoon on a Friday. I ordered a chicken burrito to go, to eat later. I walked into a darkly-lit and cool dining area. That felt so good as it was 98F outside. Service was fast. My burrito was wrapped for take-out and I helped myself to the salsa bar. You can wrap the extras with aluminum foil to keep everything fresh. This is my pit stop after picking up a visitor from the airport. Clearly it's a local favorite lunch spot. It's a great way to introduce a style of Sonoran/Mexican cuisine that is not encountered elsewhere. My favorite and go-to meals are the carne asada and the Yaqui tacos. They taste fire-grilled and are very satisfying. The salsa bar is varied, fresh and immaculate. Fresh, made-in-house horchata, lemonade and Jamaica are available and a welcome libation after being on a dry airplane. Tall, booths of darkened wood with expansive tables near the windows create a cozy spot to tuck into your tacos. It's a busy, bus-your own table kind of place but I never have felt rushed to leave. read more

I decided to stop by this place based on the high Yelp rating. Driving up, I was a little unsure because it did not look like much, but I'm glad I stopped in! It's a simple, straight-forward Mexican joint that serves up a variety of tacos, burritos, etc, as well as hamburgers and hot dogs. I had a taco (corn or flour tortilla, choice of meat, and cabbage, ~$3) and lorenza ($4). The latter is something I had never heard of, but it's basically a tostada with melted cheese, choice of meat, and cabbage--it was yummy! They have a salsa bar, complete with different types of salsa (red, green), pico de gallo, onions, limes, jalapenos, radishes, cucumbers, etc. This is all self-serve and complimentary. I came here for lunch and next time I think I'd order 3 lorenzas. The one thing this place could improve upon is there vegetarian options. Usually, I appreciate a Mexican joint that tries by offering options with beans, cheese, and veggies. Won't find much of that here. AOkay for cheap tasty eats. I ordered a Carne Asada and Cabeza Taco ($2.30 each) and their Sonoran Hot Dog. ($5) Ever since I moved to Tucson people have been telling me to try a Sonoran Hot Dog. I have never been a fan of "tube steak", even if it is Kosher. The dog was okay, but I prefer other types of Mexican fare. The 2 Tacos were okay and delicious, but nothing special to rave about.
