We were invited by my son and daughter-in-law for dinner and we had a good dinner experience here. The place is beautiful with a nice view. The food portion is big and shareable. My son and daughter in law recommended some of the dishes and it was all delicious! Server was amazing - I had mentioned that I was vegan but Unf got the grape leaves which has the yogurt-based sauce on it and we kept the dish but she bright me two plain grape leaves just because which was really considerate. Rose soda was so delicious The bread was warm and delicious and FRESH Their oil at the beginning w zatar was bland. The last thing I'll say about the ambiance was that while I was there w just my husband, there were large families seated from Indian toast Middle Eastern to Asian and white and it was such a warm environment for families. Dropped by this spot while touring the area for my friends who were thinking about moving to Washington. None of us had Lebanese food before specifically! The view from the seat we had was excellent-- several floors above the ground level. There were a bunch of flies in the restaurant (maybe not surprising because the windows were fully open), but because the ceilings were so tall, they didn't get anywhere close to the food/interfere with the eating experience. Loved all the dishes that I ate. There were so many things I wanted to try, so I got the mezze medley. I hadn't had fatayir spaneekh before-- very sweet, salty, tangy flavors; the arambeet was perfectly fried without being overly oily; and I really like their babaghanouge. I love Tanoor and I love their food, service and ambiance. I've been multiple times and it's always pretty consistent. They're fairly busy at any given time but they take good care of you even through that. This time we went, I REALLY wanted to try their pistachio ice cream and normally, we would be informed of last call but we weren't the last time and when we were ready for dessert, we were told that it was too late and that it would take 10 mins for the machine to come on. Apart from that, love their food every time. We never had Lebanese food before so this was an interesting experience for us. The restaurant decoration looked great and it window seats had great view in the summer when the windows were fully open. The food was fantastic. In fact we loved them so much that I even forgot to take photos. I also see a lot of people dinning there in their ethnic clothing thus I think this place must offered real authentic Lebanese cuisine. I'm surprised this place is only 4 stars. I thought the food was amazing as well as the service. I got the beef shish kabob and got the yellow rice with fries as my side. The fries were fried perfectly. It was literally the perfect French fry. The kabob was tasty and seasoned well. My brother got the dajaj mishweh (house special chicken). Soooo flavorful. We arrived at 6:45 on a Friday night- even during the busy hours, we were seated quickly and with a smile. FOOD Mixed Grill for 2-3: An artfully arranged platter with grilled chunks of marinated chicken breast, sirloin steak, lamb, and kofta (patty of ground beef and lamb). Comes with your choice of rice (yellow rice or lentil rice), grilled veggies (zucchini, bell pepper, tomato, red and yellow/white onions), and tzatziki (fresh yogurt based sauce) and toum (garlicky, paste-like white sauce). Also has 3 sides included. Chicken was, in my opinion, over seasoned and too salty. Beef was perfect- from the juicy cook to the rich aroma of meat mixed with spices and the lean yet tender texture. Lamb was good, I heard- most of it went to my dining partners. They said it had quite a gamey flavor. Kofta was a bit on the dry side (but we did ask for well done on that one due to it being ground meat) and flavor was interesting. Gamey, almost too much for my taste, but this was due to the ingredients used and not the actual cooking. I'd say the spices were perfect on that one. For the beef, chicken, and lamb, portions were about one kebab each. Our sides- we picked the babaghanouge (eggplant and tahini dip), spinach fatayir (flatbread filled with spinach and pomegranate molasses), and fatoush (but they gave us Greek salad instead). Babaghanouge was extravagant. Sour flavor from the yogurt, creamy and toasty flavor from the tahini (sesame based sauce), and nice texture from the minced eggplant. I had it with the fresh housemade pita- I was full but ended up eating 2 and a quarter pitas because that dip was so damn good. Don't sleep on this one guys. Portions were generous too- even with 3 people using it quite liberally we had enough to take home. Spinach fatayir had a really nicely baked bread shell, hearty wheat flavor. The filling was a bit too sour for my taste but spinach was cooked perfectly and I liked that it was dairy free. Greek salad, while not what we ordered, was pretty good. A bit too heavy on the dressing and cheese (even though we asked for dressing on the side- must have been lost in the process of transcribing our order.) The herbs and veggies were super fresh and tasty. Rice was perfectly cooked, not oily and salty like some other places. No, this rice was light and delicious with hints of herbs and spices throughout. Portion was perfect for a family of three. The flavor paired with the meats and grilled veggies perfectly. Speaking of the grilled veggies- divine. There was oil on them, as one does when cooking vegetables, but not too much, and they were thoroughly cooked while still retaining that fresh, crisp crunch. The seasoning was perfectly light, allowing the natural deliciousness of the vegetables to shine through. The sharp sweetness of the onions paired perfectly with the richer meats and savory rice, and the umami from the grilled tomatoes and mushrooms turned the flavor of the whole dish up at least two notches. And how could I forget their housemade pita? It's a complementary part of the dining experience- brought out still fresh and warm from the oven, all puffed up with the heat of baking, and served with a simple olive oil and herbs dip. In one bite, you will be buffeted with a cloud of sweet fluffy, chewy, warming dough, with a flavor of light wheat that reminds one of a grassy field on a summer afternoon. Great on its own and even better with a housemade dip. I'd eat ten of these if my stomach and metabolism allowed me to. Of course we had to get dessert, so we opted for the baklava trio. Delicious and flaky and not as sweet as other places (though still quite sugary for my taste). Perfect portions to share with a family. Our waitress was extremely patient with us as it was our first time there and we weren't sure what to order, and cracked a few jokes with us and tolerated a few of our own as well. She also let us order dessert after the bill came because we were indecisive about it. Great service, even with so few staff members on a busy night. Food also came surprisingly quickly for the quantity and quality of it. Bathrooms and dining area were well-maintained, clean, and very modern/sleek looking. It's summer right now so they had the huge windows open, making the whole restaurant essentially outside seating. View from the table was killer. The one thing I will dock points for is that they got part of our order wrong. We ordered fattoush salad with dressing on the side and instead got Greek salad with dressing mixed in. Fine this time, but if they got the order wrong for, say, someone with severe allergies, and no one noticed, the outcome could be quite disastrous. All that aside. Who would have thought Monday evening would be busy? We didn't have a reservation. Waited about 15 mins for a table. It was fun watching them make fresh pita breads in the big oven while waiting for our table. I have no idea why we never dined here ever. So glad we finally did. Since it's on the top floor with huge windows, the interiors are very brightly lit and decorated tastefully with those big, beautiful chandeliers. We were seated at a table near the window. Our waiter brought out fresh, hot pitas and a sumac, zataar oil dip of sorts. We ordered the mezze platter of 5 mezzes - spicy hummus, baba ghanoush, Muhammara, arambeet and spinach fateyr. I love that they have so many different options to choose from. The cauliflower was perfectly fried and a good sized portion. The dips were all plenty. He brought in more pitas to mop everything up. We also got a falafel plate that came with rice and a side order of fries. And the size of fries was huge! Everything was lip smacking good. Also got a rose soda that was very refreshing and a Turkish coffee. Ended with a piece of baklava. We couldn't finish half the food and brought it back for a nice lunch tomorrow! The food at best is not consistent and its a hit a miss. The service is just awful. A bunch of teenagers who care barely communicate. They will get your order every time. The so called managers not sure how to handle dispute and make up rules as they wish if you demand a refund for an order they screwed up. The demand a minimum 18% tip. I was super excited to try this place, but was very disappointed. Both the yellow rice and Kaftan Kabob meat were dry. The meat tasted like a hamburger patty that was super well done, almost crumbly, a far cry from the juicy tender image they have on the website. The Batata Harra was good, but not the Batata Harra im used to, it's just fries instead of cubed Potatoes. All and all it was just a dry salty experience.
