Decided to check out Tan's happy kitchen for lunch. Really glad that I did! I like that they have a variety of dishes available, including lunch, specials, and combination specials! I ordered the combination plate with teriyaki chicken and chicken lo mein. Definitely delicious and had a good price point. Also, really enjoyed the woman who took my order. I believe she is the owner? She was really sweet!

Egg Flower Soup. Pretty good. It's huge.

The Lemon chicken was soggy. Maybe because it was delivered by Uber Eats. The rice and broccoli chicken were just ok. The soup only comes in one size and it's huge. It was pretty good.

Maybe 6-7 pieces of beef and probably an entire onion or two.

Ordered the Mongolian beef over rice and got a box full of onions. You can traverse the entire globe and won't find someone that loves onions as much as me. However, I ordered "Mongolian beef" not "Mongolian onions". They did make my order fresh so that's a plus.

Happy to have discovered this cart! Exterior is clean and they follow safety protocols. Check out the specials menu. The teriyaki Chicken bento box was the perfect portion, flavoeful, and really brought back the home cooked feeling. Mm! Many people were ordering meals for pick up while we waited. We can't wait to come back to try the other dishes!

Uh... what? The flavors from this place were ridiculous! We ordered a nice Tuesday night meal. We held low to no expectations about the experience going into it, but were quickly slapped across our dang faces when the food arrived. Crispy frying, perfect salt level, hot to warm upon arrival, portion sizes are exceptional, and sauce in all the right places. This cart is so worth it!! Highly recommend sesame chicken, potstickers, and fried rice with anything. The frying was still crispy when it got to our place... yes, your mouth is drooling. Our new favorite place to eat at off 82nd!

This is seriously bussin Chinese food. It's my favorite place to get Chinese food, the older woman who is always there is so nice. Their food tastes like it's made with love, you won't regret getting food here.

There's no sign on the trailer, so just look for the purple trailer with the menus in the window.

What a good find! We stopped by Bubble Bar to get some boba drinks, and the owner of Tan's Happy Kitchen approached us to offer us a menu. The items were tempting enough for us to give it a try, and we're happy that we did! There are nine crab puffs in an order, the most I've ever seen in an order anywhere, and they are quite good. The potstickers were probably the tastiest we've ever had, and the egg rolls were very tasty and fresh! The owners are extraordinarily nice, and gave use the egg rolls on the house as a bonus gift with our order. The General Tso's chicken was nice and crispy, and very tasty. The chicken fried rice was good, but not great. Nice bonuses were the good quantities and varieties of sauces, plenty of napkins, and the very high quality to-go containers. The owner also frequently checked in on us as we dined, and offered other sauces to accompany our meals. We'll definitely be back!

Tan's now has combination entrees that you can make to your preference. It has 10+ options to choose from and big portions too. Very good value for money.

Stopped by to pick up dinner and was blown away at the portions and the flavor of the dishes. Pot stickers were slightly crispy and flavorful. Mongolian beef was just hot enough to be tasty but not overwhelming. All in all really enjoyed the meals much more than any of the other full restaurants in the area. I will be back.

But today, I had the time to swing by and fortunately he was open, but SOLD OUT. Fortunately, he had a few things left over. So I said yes to a mix plate. Nolan's Hawaii accent is still thick it made me feel like I was back home on the west side for a second (!!!!thank you!!!!) I met some people outside the food stand, a business man from Hawaii and some California people I mistaken were from Hawaii as well, lol. It was an awesome interaction, from the moment I got there I got greeted by strangers waiting for food, to going up to the window and asking "so what? No more nuttin left?" Nolan's response was "Nah I only get mochicko chicken and kalua, you likem?" Haha that was a definite yes! Won't miss out on home food esp if word of mouth was already out there. So I waited a few minutes for my food, and the box was heavy. Haha it felt like when you would eat at your aunty and uncles house and they pack you the party left overs. I opened my plate lunch and I was greeted by a huge portion of chicken, pork rice and Mac salad. And let me tell you, the Mac salad didn't have so much frills like what you would see in a Portland Hawaii food joint. It was sauced, and seasoned. PERFECT! No need for all the extra add ons. As I started eating, let me say that kalua pork was no joke so moist and easy to eat not even close to dried out. The chicken tasted nice and crispy with just enough marinate and fluff. I haven't found this anywhere in Oregon..until here. Yeah sure there's a poke and katsu bar in the shopping center next door... but I take the random food cart in the parking lot any day over something franchised

There's a certain kind of mistake that turns into a pilgrimage and like most good food stories,…read moremine started with bad directions and blind confidence. Somewhere between a Yelp recommendation and my own stubborn sense of direction, I managed to drive a full hour the wrong way chasing a Korean barbecue hot honey glaze that sounded like it had been whispered to me by the food gods themselves. What I found instead was disappointment on a paper plate bad signage, worse service, and a meal that tasted like it had given up long before I showed up. But here's the thing about chasing flavor: sometimes you've gotta get lost to earn it. Eventually, I made my way back correctly this time and landed at what can only be described as a modern-day food cart coliseum just off Powell and 82nd. Easy access, right off the road, no nonsense. You swing in, and boom you're there. No treasure map required. And what hits you first isn't just the smell of grilled meat and spices it's the design. This place is two stories of organized chaos done right. Clean lines, thoughtful layout, indoor seating for when Oregon decides to be Oregon, and outdoor space for when you want to sit in the sun with a cold drink and question your life choices over something deep-fried and glorious. This isn't Hillbilly Junction. Not even close. That place has its charm, sure but this? This is polished. Intentional. It's like someone took the soul of a street market and gave it a well-earned promotion. Now let's talk about the food the reason we're all here pretending we didn't just say we were "eating clean this week." That Korean barbecue chicken with the hot honey glaze? Worth every wrong turn, every mile, every ounce of regret from the first stop. Sweet, heat, smoke it hits like a good joke you didn't see coming. You take a bite, and suddenly you're not in a rush anymore. You're leaning on the table, nodding to yourself like, yeah... this is why we do this. And the variety? It's borderline dangerous. You walk through thinking you'll make a responsible decision, maybe something light, maybe something green and then five steps later you're holding something wrapped, fried, glazed, or all three. It's a mecca of bad decisions that somehow feel exactly right. And to be fair, if you're trying to behave, there are healthier options tucked in there too but let's not kid ourselves. Nobody comes here for restraint. There's something else, though. Something personal. Just a block or two away, my grandpa ran Tom's Auto Body on Powell Boulevard for decades. Built a name, built a reputation. So being back in this area it's more than just food. It's familiar ground, just dressed up a little nicer now. And I can't help but think he'd get a kick out of this place. Or at least appreciate the hustle. So here it is, plain and simple: Location? Five stars. You'd have to try to miss it. Value? Five stars. You get more than just a meal you get options, atmosphere, and a reason to come back. This place isn't just a stop it's a destination. And if you get lost on the way, well... you might just end up with a better story.

I was pretty impressed with this mother and son-owned food cart, it was 100 degrees and they whipped up my "salmon-lover's roll" really quickly. The roll was fresh and delicious, and was beautifully displayed even though I carried it out in a to-go container. I also ordered a $6 miso, and while I initially balked at the idea of paying that much for a miso, it ended up being one of the most delicious bowls I've ever ordered. It was a robust serving of soup with hearty chunks of tofu, tasty strips of seaweed, and served at the surface temperature of the sun. Maybe not the best idea for a 100-degree day, but I do love a good bowl of miso soup. I'm continuously impressed with the number of delicious sushi options in Portland, but I can safely say Hayai Sushi is one of my current faves. I'll definitely be returning to sample more from their menu in the future. And a quick note on CORE: There was a moment last year when things weren't looking so good at CORE. The picnic tables were falling apart, the interior food hall space was deserted, and the hours of the individual food trucks weren't dependable. But those days are gone! Something changed and CORE has really stepped up their game. The interior space is clean and vibrant with live plants, comfortable seating, regularly sheduled events, and best of all... strong air conditioning. If you haven't visited CORE in a while, I highly suggest you make a return visit!
