My sister-in-law had shared one fried banana with me at one time. It was really good. She got it from Tantawan Thai Kitchen. I was craving for some fried bananas so I dropped in to get some. They are located on Garvey Ave within the Vikon Center in Rosemead. This spot used to be a Vietnamese restaurant a very long time ago. It brought back some nostalgia when I walked through the doors. Upon entry, I was greeted by a nice gentleman behind the counter. He may have been the owner not 100% sure though. Good interior seating space. Nice and clean. Lots of windows with great sunlight shining through. Their menu has quite a variety of Thai dishes and some intriguing ones, too. Prices were fair. I usually get my go-to dish which is the Pad Woon Sen (glass noodles) with seafood. This time I got it with just shrimp. Of course, I had to get an order of fried bananas. They make them to order. Just know you're getting them fresh from the fryer every time. I also got one Thai Green Tea drink. Everything from noodles to bananas to drink were very good. I appreciate the 5-6 big shrimps in the Pad Woon Sen. Glass noodles were firm and not mushy. Tomatoes and green onions were fresh. Wok flavor was on point. Good quality dish! I would get it again. As for the fried bananas, they weren't as good as the first time I had them. Don't get me wrong, they were very hot and fresh. Good portions, too. I just think they were thin with the batter and also they probably needed to sit a little bit prior to eating them. Thai Green Tea was refreshingly good. I love drinks with crushed ice! Been wanting to try Tantwan for a while and finally got the chance to on a Wednesday evening. Upon entering, we were kindly greeted by the staff and immediately seated. The interior was well lit, filled with pretty flowers, and they even had some Thai music playing! After looking through the menu we finally ordered. Our table ordered the chicken red curry, shrimp butter fried rice, beef pad see ew, and pad gra pow. Everything was pretty standard across the board, just very good authentic Thai food. I ordered for delivery, and I was pleasantly surprised that the food was still piping hot when it arrived. I got the Tantawan Fried Rice because from the description, it looked like it was basically their version of pineapple fried rice. It tasted exactly how I imagined it would. The rice had a really nice wok flavor, and everything blended together really well. It had that slightly sweet and savory combination that I like in pineapple fried rice without one flavor overpowering everything else. There were only two pieces of shrimp in the fried rice, which I do wish there were more of, but the shrimp themselves were excellent. They tasted fresh, were juicy, and were cooked to perfection. I also got the pad see ew with beef. It was not bad and definitely tastier than a lot of other pad see ew I've tried, but I don't think it would be my favorite. I was glad to see that they use gai lan instead of regular broccoli here lol. It makes such a difference for me and is what I expect in a good pad see ew. My only real gripe would be the portion sizes. I wish they gave you a little more food, especially since both dishes were pretty tasty. Saw this spot recommended by Eater LA so I had to see how it compares. It was authentic Thai food w/ a few modern twists. The servers were mostly friendly. The food came out as it was made. We tried a number of dishes: Pad See You - good wok flavor. We ordered it with pork. There wasn't a lot of meat in it but I did like that the meat was thinly sliced. Crab Fried Rice - once again, good wok flavor. Lots of flakey crab meat and chunky egg pieces. Crunchy Tofu - we all loved the texture variation. The deep fry technique definitely leaves it with a crunchy shell. It was good with or without the sauce it came with. Pork Jerky - everyone enjoyed the marinade. We noshed and picked at this throughout dinner. Yellow Curry - we got it with beef, mild, no spice. It was tasty, the coconut curry was delicious. I was surprised at how much I loved this especially since the gravy was more soupy than gravy like. Puffy Carfish - wasn't sure what this was but saw it on a number or posts and had to try it. It was an interesting texture. I think I read after eating dinner that it was a salad. OOPS we didn't eat the cabbage! The sour apple slaw that comes with it is DELICIOUS! The dish is consistently packed with lots of protein, spice, and savory goodness! The noodles are always perfectly well-coated and cooked in the delicious umami sauce. This is the 2nd location of Tantawan, with the other being in West Covina. It's hard to believe they're the same restaurant. The decor in this location is lacking and dull. The service is mediocre as I have to remind them we need utensils, water ... etc. the staff doesn't seem to be too excited being here. The food here isn't as good as the other location either. The dishes we got on our past visits all lacked that Thai spice and flavor. It's very one dimensional. I have to go ask for condiments and peppers, only to be given 1 small to-go container of pepper, while I saw another table with 4 glass jars of various condiments. I met my friend at Tantawan Thai Kitchen for lunch. Never been to the restaurant, but it was one of her go-to spots and I was excited to try it. I found the restaurant in a strip mall with several other businesses. I was worried about parking, but I was pleasantly surprised at the abundance of spots especially around lunch time. The restaurant was busy at noon, but we were able to get a table without any issues. Tantawan Thai had such a huge menu, and everything looked really tasty. I would've went for pad see ew, but the combo plates caught my eye. I opted for the chicken satay and shrimp plate, and my friend got the pad thai with tofu. I had a bite of her pad thai, which was great. Exactly what I expected from pad thai, and I liked how the noodles were nicely al dente. The good thing about my dish was that it was flavorful. Do not sleep on the sweet vinegar sauce with pickled cucumbers and peppers if it comes with your dish. So good! The bad part was the imbalance of protein. They give way more chicken satay skewers than they do shrimp. I only had 3 pieces of shrimp, but I guess you can say that the menu picture was an accurate representation of what you get since the picture only showed 2 shrimp. I've found chicken satay to be a hit or miss. In this case, I felt like more skewers were misses than hits because of how dry they were. But hey, smothering the peanut curry sauce on the skewers did the trick of masking the dryness with flavor. I was on a time crunch and needed to finish lunch in an hour. I appreciated how quickly our food came out, but it took longer to flag someone for the check. read more

I told her not to deviate from traditional Thai dishes and sure enough she was left disappointed in the end. The Crispy Pork Belly was too crispy. It didn't have the proper texture. Don't order this dish! The Pad Kee Mao was pretty solid. It was much better than the one we had at Thai Paradise in MPK. We would order it again here! We thought that Fish Cake was lovely! The wife and I devoured real quick. This was the clear winner of the meal. Honestly, I would rate the food a 3.5/5. I will round up to 4 as I gave Thai Paradise a 3 and the food here was a little better. I don't think we would be in a rush to come back here, but you wouldn't have to twist our arm to come back either. This place is more of a take-out spot. I wouldn't eat-in again. Some places come with it or some don't have it at all. I like that they have the option. It really gave the soup flavor an extra boost in my opinion but even without liver would've been great! Papaya salad with blue crab was amazing at medium spicy level. The crab here is the most lump and plush crab I've had in all papaya salad dishes I've ordered so far from anywhere. Most places that list blue crab on the menu just have tiny claws or mini crabs. We also got Rad Na chicken with gravy and a chili chicken lunch special. I'd heard a lot of great things about this spot but was always hesitant to try it out since it's in El Monte and let's be real, the Thai food scene around here isn't exactly known for being top-tier. But on a random Saturday, I came here with two of my buddies, still recovering from the night before and seriously craving some kind of comforting soup. We ended up trying the boat noodles, and honestly? They were fire. I've had boat noodles in Thai Town and Long Beach, and this place held its own. The broth was super flavorful, the noodles were cooked just right, and they didn't skimp on the meat either. We also ordered the mango sticky rice which is usually a safe bet at any Thai restaurant and it didn't disappoint. Their menu is quite extensive in a good way. The restaurant is cozy with older room scent but it is a welcoming spot serves up delicious Thai dishes with bold flavors. Whether you're a fan of spicy curries, savory stir-fries, or even duck on rice (more on that later). The staff is friendly and attentive, adding to the overall warm atmosphere. Green Thai ice tea - which is Thai ice tea with jasmine tea was too, too sweet. Very disappointed. Pad Thai is an absolute must-try. perfectly balanced with a hint of sweetness and spice. Claims Stir-fried - this is my favorite. The dish has a nice kick that builds as you eat. Plus, the portions are generous, Duck with rice plate. That was a bit ofd offered at Thai restaurant. We bypass this notion, we ordered it and my sister said it was decent. However, I was disappointed as the duck certainly wasn't prepared that day but had a 2-3 days older taste to it. Look at my name. Now look back at this review and know that I have some merit in saying that this is good Thai food. I moved to the SGV a little over a year ago and I have been sorely disappointed by offerings this nook of LA county has to offer *ahem banana bay*. I found myself driving to the SFV or Thai Town whenever I was too lazy to cook Thai food on my own. I decided to take a gamble with this restaurant and I am so very glad that I did. It's so good and authentic that I have come out of yelp retirement (Yelp Elite 2016-2020) to leave this review. I ordered four things as take out: Issan Sausage, Pad Kra Pow Minced Chicken, Spicy Fried Crispy Cat Fish, and Drunken Noodles. I was told that they were out of the Kra Pow Century Egg and stewed pork leg over rice. Hopefully, I'll get to try it next time! Issan Sausage: Good portions. Flavor is very good, a little sour, a little salty, and a hint of sweetness. I think the flavors could be a bit more bold with the sour but overall the flavors profile is as it should be. Frying it also added a nice crispiness to it. Spicy Fried crispy Catfish: Flavors were really good. Sweet foods is typically not usually in my flavor profile, but this is one of the few sweet entrees I actually like. Catfish can be a bit more fried but that is moreso a preference on my part. Drunken Noodle Beef: Good char on the noodles. Flavor was really good as well. Not that much beef but the star of the show are the noodles. I was a tad confused on the egg in my drunken noodle but to each their own. I would probably order it without the egg next time because it does change the texture a bit. Pad Kra Pow Minced Chicken: Now here's where it gets interesting! Tantawan actually uses holy basil (Kra Pow). It's harder to find but it has a very distinct flavor that Thai-American cuisine has for the most part substituted due to scarcity with Thai Basil (Horapha). I don't think you can get more authentic than actually using the right herb. Funnily enough, I think it can throw off people that have never had authentic Kra Pow as my partner said it tasted herbally. Thai food can be very hit and miss even among the Thai community as we all have different preferences when it comes to the holy trinity of sweet, salty, and sour. I am personally on the spectrum of sweet should be hinted at and never the forward flavor. Tantawan with the dishes I ordered definitely held to my flavor profile. Very well cooked and good flavor profile. I didn't have to add any seasoning as everything was cooked just right. I called my take out in and they said it would be ready in 20 and it was when I arrived. Even as the food sat in my passenger seat as I drove home I could tell from the smell emanating from the take-out bag that the food was going to be good. Quick and courteous service! read more

The service was terrible too! The only waitress was rude and even though she tried to be nice at the end, it was too late. The times we have ate there, service has always been attentive. The parking lot can get packed though. Especially with the new businesses across the street.
