This spot has been around for a while and I've eaten here quite a few times over the years. It's been a minute, but I drove by recently and was craving some Hainan chicken so I decided to stop in. I ordered the half and half rice set with both fried and steamed chicken. Pickup was quick and the portion size was actually pretty generous. The chicken was done really well. The steamed chicken was tender and soft, and the fried chicken was crispy and flavorful. The rice had a nice chicken flavor to it too. What really took it to the next level for me were the sauces. They paired perfectly with the chicken and made each bite better. Also want to shout out the person who helped me, she was super nice and made the experience even better. Honestly was a bit skeptical of this spot since the pics on Yelp looked a bit outdated and the pics showed the food being discolored. Trusted my friend's rec and went for lunch on a Sunday. Parking is fairly easy as it shares a parking lot with the big plaza nearby. Immediately when I walked in I noticed that the place could use a bit of revamping, maybe some decorations. Overall, the food was enjoyable and I would be back for a quick lunch spot that serves solid chicken rice. Half fried/half grilled high on chicken rice, 8.5/10: both the grilled and fried chicken were hot and crispy. The chicken was cooked well and nicely seasoned. I thought the chicken could use a tad bit of salt though. The soup it came with was piping hot and accompanied the rice and chicken well. The rice itself could have used a bit more seasoning and chicken fat in my opinion. Keep in mind that it wasn't even busy (there was just one party there) and 5+ tables uncleaned. It wasn't even busy and they told us to wait almost 15-20 minutes before they could seat us and they didn't even apologize! The menu had a lot of variety to choose from, such as popular Thai dishes like pad Thai, different kinds of curry (red, green, yellow), crab fried rice, papaya salad, etc. There was also Hainan chicken in different variations - steamed, fried, and grilled ($13-14). Pricing was very reasonable and most entrees were $14+ The Chicken Pad Thai ($13.99) was pretty decent and the portion was very big. The noodles were very good and not too salty or overly sweet. I really enjoyed that there was a lot of pieces of chicken and egg inside. This was 4/5 Pineapple Fried Rice ($13.99) was very delicious and had lots of chicken and shrimp inside! The rice was very flavorful and I really liked the chunks of pineapple, bits of raisins and cashews inside. This was 4/5 Tom Yum Noodle Soup ($13.99) was very underwhelming. This used to be my #1 favorite place to eat at before covid. I used to eat here all the time when they had the jars of ginger on the table. I also used to bring all my friends here to eat bc I love their half and half chicken plates (steamed and grilled) with papaya salad and soup. I used to order the crying tiger too but sometimes it gets overcooked and tastes gummy. I still eat here but i guess i get annoyed that they want to charge 99 cents for each extra ginger. Red Chicken is stand alone building located in the corner next to the Sam Woo and O'Reilly Auto Parts plaza on Las Tunas. There is minimal parking in the lot in the back, but there should be plenty of street parking. We came in for dinner at around 6 PM on a week night and the restaurant had minimal people and no wait. However, we noticed a bunch of take out orders lined up and as the night went on, a lot of people were coming in and out to pick up their food. This must be a very popular restaurant for take out. The server was very friendly and took our order. My wife ordered the Pad Thai with chicken and I ordered the Spicy Basil with Pork, spicy level spicy. My wife enjoyed her Pad Thai and I really enjoyed my spicy basil. The pork was flavorful and the spicy level was on point. A few days later, we called to place a small party tray for Pad Thai and party tray of 40 Satay Chicken. The Pad Thai comes with the toppings separated out on top in case you want to take something out. Otherwise, you can mix it up after. It also came with lemon and peanuts on the side. The satay chicken came with satay sauce in a separate container and another sauce with cucumber in it. Our group of friends really enjoyed both dishes and it was enough for about 6-7 people. There's plenty of parking in the nearby plaza with the grocery store and this place really only does fried and steamed chicken rice on their menu. Definitely a hidden gem in San Gabriel! It doesn't have a big door, not much decorations in the store, nothing fancy at all, but very practical. I was excited to eat here due to the positive reviews but found that the food was overhyped and overpriced for the quality. I got takeout order, which may have affected the quality. The takeout may have decreased the quality, but if it did, it must have decreased it significantly for what I was expecting based on what I have heard. On a side note, there was a language barrier, which made it take about 50 percent longer to place an order than at other places. I got the Half&Half rice set, which was half fried chicken and Hainan (steamed) chicken. The steam chicken was one dimensional in flavor, savory, and given its dry, fibrous, texture, it was a complete miss for $14. The fried chicken was pleasantly crispy and not dry (but not juicy either). However, the skin was clumped up in certain places, creating too much crunch and noticable fat. At least the chicken rice was enjoyably savory and gingery. I tried the pad thai, and it was decent since it had a pleasant balance between sweetness and savoriness while highlighting the tangy tamarind notes with fish sauce umami. It did not have much shrimp, pork, or tofu, and the pork that they gave was dry. There was a large undercooked scallion white in there, too. Overall, it met the idea of pad thai, but had unpleasant details like the scallion or dry note. It felt a bit expensive for $13. Lastly, the (deep fried) beef jerky was absurdly dry to the point that regular beef jerky would be less dry. The fish sauce funkiness was overwhelming, and the portion size was half the size of a small chinese takeout container, including the empty space between the jerky pieces. For $11, I would have expected more, like Banana Bay's portions, which are almost double the size. Overall, I was looking forward to eating here due to the beaming reviews, but the takeout quality was abysmal for the price range of around $15 per dish. read more

Discovered this little gem one day when Savoy was closed and haven't looked back! This is by far the best hainan chicken I've had. They give you an option to how your chicken is prepared: steamed (my personal favorite), grilled, or fried. Each chicken is served with different types of sauces as well that pair perfectly with the chicken of your choice. The rice and soup is always on point. Another great item is their papaya salad. I find myself always comparing other papaya salads to Red Chicken's and it's always unmatched! I end getting the half and half chicken and rice sets. The soup was plain, but had a clean settle taste. The papaya salad was not good. I definitely have had better. The dark Hainan (steamed) chicken was very good! Unfortunately the pairing with sauces weren't anything like Savoy or Green zone. I ended up tossing most of the sauces as they weren't my preference. We went to Savoy, Sanamluang, Cluck2go, Heng Heng, etc. We were surprised to find this one in SG, a little bit far but might be a good discovery. We got there at 8pm almost closing time. We met Auu, the waitress and Amm, the owner. They both were courteous, friendly, attentive and gave good service. My husband ordered signature steamed chicken and I got the grilled one. The meat was fresh, soft and juicy with many kinds of sauces. I liked the ginger and black bean sauces. It came with rice and soup. The soup was not warm but when we mentioned it, the owner brought out the new hot bowls right away. We appreciated her concern. We also ordered crying tiger, tasted good, well marinated and to go order for steamed chicken, half white and dark meat.
