So I had a job to do today for a customer. I normally put glass on. But this job was different than any job I had to do. It involve plastic. I didn't have the tools to cut the big board I purchased at there store and realized that the long plastic sheet didn't fit in the back of my truck. Didn't pay attention to the gentleman's name that came out the store after my purchase and came to offer me help. He could've just stayed in the store. After all he got my money right? It's not his problem now right? Nope this gentleman that worked there came and offered me to cut the sheet to make it fit on my truck. Then I left. Got to the job and like a dummy realized I didn't have anything to cut the plastic sheet in order to make the fit for the job. I didn't even know what to use. Like I said I install glass not plastic. But the customer wanted plastic. So I had to do to get the job done exactly how my customer wanted. I go back to the store immediately a woman that worked at tap plastics came to the rescue on my second visit. She offered to cut the plastic sheet to the exact shape I needed. While she's doing her magic the gentleman from my first visit explains the process of the cut and tools to get it done how I needed. He also teaches me what tools they sell to get the job done on my own for future purposes. Long story short. The job was completed and the lady that helped me I believe her name was Elizabeth. Did it all for me. All I had to do was deliver and install it. Great customer service and very nice people that work at that store. read more

One of the best companies I have ever dealt with. I contacted them needing help with repairing my fiberglass pool and had a lot of questions. They (Russ Miller) spent an extensive amount of time pointing me to exactly what I needed and walking me through the process of my repair. Dozens of emails back and forth later I finally completed my project with confidence. Russ even hand drew me some diagrams to use. And this was all done for a small "residential" order, I only spent maybe 150.00 or so with them. What an amazing company! read more

TAP plastics is fine for small projects, but I wouldn't use them for anything that requires a sheet bigger than 16" x 20" -- their quotes on large sheets/quantities are always WAY more expensive than the competition- sometimes twice as much and more. I ended up using Mr. Plastics, right around the corner, instead, and saved my company hundreds of dollars. read more

I've been to a couple Tap plastic locations just to search around and thinking about the materials I needed for my personal project. By far, this location has been my favorite. They were very helpful and patience with me. I had a couple things cut super thin, about 1/2 inch wide, I was told that it's gonna be very difficult for them bc it's so thin. And that it would only cost $1 a piece so they wouldn't even make any money. So I had about 20 pieces like that and they went out of their way to help me even though the guy in the workshop was very busy with other projects. I had talked to about 5 people there and they were all extremely nice and helpful. Overall, I would come back to this location for future projects. read more

Dear TAP Plastics, You are the hero for our students! Thank you --I went in to TAP yesterday and met with Gretchen, the assistant manager. I explained that I was hoping to replace a basketball backboard for an underfunded public school in East Oakland. I needed help. Gretchen was patient, thoughtful, kind and brilliant in her ability to navigate me through figuring out how to do this on a tight budget and with little skills (me). I walked out of there informed, grateful and with a custom piece of new backboard that would fix the students' basketball hoop. I emailed this company off of their web site after finding them through a Google search. Not only did they respond in less than a day, but on a weekend. I'm an individual who was just looking for a very small custom job, and they were very receptive and transparent about the process. They asked me for specifics and sent back a detailed specification of what they'd build. And finally, they offered to do it at a very fair price, despite the fact that they ordinarily build large orders, and my item clearly wouldn't scale well for them. They have been polite, professional, and helpful the whole way through. I wish I had a need for more products so that I could do more business with them. :-) read more

This store exemplifies why franchised American companies stink. I chose the main TAP Plastics store thinking they would have the skilled personnel to execute the timely fabrication of a simple, 5-sided Plex box with a slot on top. It was for a custom donation box for an art gallery. I was told it would take a week to complete and this was indeed the location to have it done. More employees, faster turnaround. Ten days later I went down to pick up the prepaid order. Unfortunately, there were obvious scratches and flame-scaring where the Plex was overheated. I explained my client would not accept this quality of workmanship. The counter person would return it to the fabrication shop for "assessment." The store called a few days later explaining the defects were "inside the Plex" and a new box would have to be made. Another week passed. I called several times and was told the project is done and just needed to be flamed. When I finally was called in the box was handed to me wrapped in plastic with the original Plex paper still in tack. I unwrapped the box and was shocked that the routered edges were neither sanded or flamed. I then started to peel the paper to check for internal defects when another employee, obviously the fabricator, said "If you scratch the Plex peeling the paper I'm not making another one." This was followed by two more startling statements. "In my whole career I've never seen a defect behind the paper" and "I can flame the edges right now but if it fogs it's your responsibility." By then the store manager came out. "What's the problem; the box looks great." I explained that this project is for an art gallery, the first box was defective, so I'm double-checking. Then I pointed to a corner of the box where the Plex had been scratched during fabrication and as I peeled the paper another scar appeared in the Plex. "OK." said the manager. "Listen. We don't need your business. I'm tired of you artist types coming in here and complaining about the work. Take it or leave it." I took the box around the corner to an independent plastic fabricator who agreed the craftsmanship was indeed horrible and offered to do a museum-quality job for 30% less. LESSON: Avoid color-coordinated, Polo shirt-wearing American franchises. Empower independent craftsman. read more

The sign guy here made some signs for my business that turned out great. He took time to make sure everything was just right. He was more particular than me! Every experience I have had in this store has been positive. They are all very knowledgeable but no one makes you feel dumb for not knowing the correct way to explain your project needs. This store has a huge warehouse and fabrication shop in back so it's the place to go for your bigger projects. There is always someone there to help you. I've never waited for service. Now if only they had everything Home Depot has I'd never have to enter that horrible place again. Have fun at TAP. Oh, and they are a locally owned and operated family business. read more

Wow, no reviews for the main location of TAP Plastics? This is the location that has the full fab next door. Pretty industrial looking all around the area, including the store itself. They usually have most of everything you'd find on the website in stock on the showroom floor. The scrap bin tends to have a larger variety than the Mountain View or El Cerrito locations, but for these scraps, you'll always pay the posted prices (the other locations will usually just let you have something if it's a small amount, or you're a good customer). But you can find just about everything you need plastic-wise here, along with all the on-site services such as laser-cutting. read more

Friendly, efficient floor sales staff. They'll approach you and answer all your questions. Had a piece of plastic cut to very specific measurements, it was written up and sent to the shop tech in minutes. The staff offered some tips on how to drill and cut for my final installation/project. read more

I call around now and again looking for plastics for various projects. I do not know if different Tap plastics have different prices, but, and forgive me for saying this in light of our socio political environment, but there is an Indian gentleman who answers from time to Time. I need get his name, but when it is him that I speak to, his price is always the highest of everyone I call. Something feels off. read more

TAP Plastics is BEYOND a store ~ it's a community service ! This place is the very perfection of customer service. Every time I go there my interactions with the staff are not only incredibly helpful, ie they make suggestions for things I had not thought of to extend the life of the acrylic table cover I already have. In other words they often offer alternatives to my buying a whole new piece of plastic ! They are even beyond plastic sellers ~ TAP actually cultivates stewards of plastic, so that the plastic we already have in the world can be better cared for & then we don't need more. Because, let's face it folks, plastic is a petroleum product.... and not ultimately healthy or sustainable for the world. So TAP actually helps us reduce un-needed plastic ! And that Gretchen ~ well, I have never felt so special as a customer. She actually stopped in the middle of a rushed sale (I was the last customer of the day) and said "no, wait, first of all How Are You ? That's more important." I have never had a sales person ask me how I was and actually wait for the answer. I felt better when I left TAP, than I had when I arrived. They are the BEST ! read more

Ran in to their store in desperation...and was blown away by their service. Needed to solve a design issue for a restaurant in Texas (no tap plastics in TX)...asked them for some custom cut white plastic. Not only they did get it done within 10 minutes over the 4th of July weekend but when their assistant manager, Gretchen, realized I was flying with it she recommended (wisely) that they could wrap it for me to make it easy to check. I'm in the service industry and I can't say enough about this shop and Gretchen. read more

Tap plastics rocks as a company. This store does not. Standing around for 30 minutes waiting for service and watching these folks struggle is painful, to say the least. The bearded fellow running the cash register needs to adopt more than the blank look he gave me when I asked him a question. A simple acknowledgment that I will be taken care would've sufficed, if I didn't watch person after person walk in front of me and getting totally ignored by the owner and his lackeys. Hire more people. There's obviously enough demand. And in this day and age, credit card machines are obsolete because they cost a ton and fail. Get your self signed up with square or PayPal now. Or some other easy to use service. And don't yell at the frustrated customer as he walks out the door. It doesn't help your cause. Next time I will just drive the extra 30 minutes into the city of San Francisco. They know how to treat a customer. Fail!! read more

These people are liars. I went in to this store after speaking to a gentleman at TAP Plastics in Pleasanton on the telephone two days ago to purchase three 8' by 4' 1/8" thick tinted plastic sheets. They are expensive, running $135.00 apiece. The gentleman on the phone had offered to cut the three sheets to size, which would mean two cuts to create the triangular shape I need for the openings I need to seal. So I get there today and the manager not only doesn't honor the offer to make these simple cuts, she smugly says she is going to charge me $150.00 to do so, and that they NEVER do two cuts for free, only one "straight line" cut. Her inference being that I am a liar. Oh my, her attitude was awful . Ms. Lucero should find a job where she doesn't deal with other people if today's example is any indicator of her typical personality. She went on screaming at me, saying she has the right to kick me out of the store and because I AM SO RUDE, that I needed to leave and never come back. Well, believe you me, I will never do business with this site again, not as long as this person is there. I hope you read this, Kim. Four strikes and your fired. Do not pay in advance for any fabrication work. That was my mistake. In my case I gave them a piece of plexi and asked them if they could duplicate it, was told no problem for them to do this. Bottom line, after four tries they failed to duplicate the piece, refused to try again and would only offer to refund the material cost ($8 of the $60 they charged). The really infuriating part was that this TAP store agreed that they had not duplicated my original piece but simply refused to keep trying. That in a way was just as well since after four separate trips to pick up the piece I was really tired on the run around I was getting. I was charged full bore pricing for incompetent workmanship and basically told to like or lump it. Four strikes and your fired. read more

I love this place. The store is clean and the employees are knowledgeable, always willing to help. With that being said, it saddens me to have to write this review. Saturday 1/25/14 while visiting the store, one of the employees had a bad body odor. The stench was overwhelming, therefore my visit was cut short. I think this is poor customer service when an employee comes to work and not take the time to practice proper hygiene. Management needs to enforce some type of policy otherwise my next visit will be my last. read more

I recently installed a National Cycle Dakota windshield on my motorcycle, which was way too tall, even at the lowest setting, for a safe and convenient viewing of the road. A couple of rider friends had referred me to TAP Plastics in San Leandro, CA to get it trimmed. Took it there last week and met Russ and informed him what I wanted. The large plastic square piece (54X54) I ordered for a kitchen table was perfect from Tap Plastics! Gretchen, the assistant manager, was so knowledgeable and helpful as I tried to figure out and picture how the varying thicknesses would work and look on the table. She offered to create small samples for me to take home to help me visualize the differences in thickness and size of bump-outs (bumper buttons). At the end, I went with Gretchen's recommendation based on her experience and it turned out perfect -- the plastic was flawless, the sizing and radius corners fit to a tee and the thickness was perfect to create stability and no sliding with the smaller size bump-outs. She even provided samples of cleaning packets to maintenance the table top. Thank you Gretchen! Great customer service, great quality product and highly recommend TAP Plastics. read more
