Synopsis: Pretty chill place. Definitely for people who don't want to dance or pay large sums of dinero for drinks. You can get a small mini pitcher for 5-6 bucks! NICE! All other drinks are reasonable. They have karaoke system, pool table, inside and outside seating. Though the view is lousy, the options of where you want to hang out are awesome. Environment: There is an outside area, lounge area, and bar side. The outside area has tables with umbrellas, so it can protect you from light showers. Not recommended for anything more than that. The bar area is open air and fans. I have never felt hot, but then again I have only been here at night. The lounge is where the magic happens with pool table and karaoke. So quite awesome options. It's very good for a small group where it is not busy. If it's busy, not the place to be. People: I have never met rude people. The type of people varied all the time. I have not seen regulars, nor have I met anyone new because I was always in groups. But, if you ever find me there, I'll be in the lounge area being a pool shark. Drinks: Noted in synopsis. This is an open bar that sits what seems to be in the middle of the Hilton Hawaiian Village. It also is situated adjacent to a swimming pool. We dropped by to chat with some friends at about 4:00pm; we sat ourselves down and there many other tables that were already open as well. Hotel guests walked about this area, giving it a very open, casual feel. The price range for the tropcials and martinis are from $11-13, and the beers $6-8. In all honesty, you can probably find cheaper somewhere along the boardwalk. There is also a mandatory 18% gratuity for a party of 6 or more. The only foods they serve are pizza, in all its usual forms, but I didn't linger on the page to note the prices. read more

Decent bar at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. Open air, which is nice, and plenty of seating. Drinks are expensive, but strong and pretty good. Lots of good tropical choices. The local beers aren't particularly good, and they don't have good alternatives (it's all Bud & Bud Light, yuck). The entertainment is terrible. Awful local bands and performers aimed at tourists. Beyond cheesy. Not every song should be sung in the Hawaiian style. Surely the Hilton could do better. But then we don't drink a lot so maybe we weren't in the right frame of mind. ("Where are you from?" "Who's here on a honeymoon?" that kind of thing.) But then again, you are sitting outside on a lovely day in Hawaii, having a drink and taking it easy. The entertainment here is outstanding. We come here every once in a while. The drinks are Waikiki-pricey. Yes, we islanders would love a Kamaaina discount, and maybe the Waikiki establishments will consider discounts for us one day. We love the atmosphere, facing the ocean. The service is fine. No problems except when the place is full, we wait little longer for our food, but we're never in a hurry as we simply love the surroundings. We are a guest at the hotel on Rainbow tower and heard the band playing on our way out to dinner. "Keep all the request coming in..." says the performer on stage (E&T Ernie and Tito). So we sat had 2 glasses of wine and on our 3rd glass we request, Elvis Presley's "A Little Less Satisfaction" while my my husband puts a a significant tip on their bucket, Ernies asks is this a title of a song? My husband retorts if you know Elvis... they just don't know the song... after ordering wine, the waitress tells us it takes 40 to 50 mins to order any food so feel free to bring your food in... it was a sub par service. read more

We stayed at the Hilton so we thought why not grab some drinks from happy hour. The place was packed. And only three items for happy hour that's disappointing. $11 plus for drinks. Food was very expensive with a extremely long wait time. We was going to pay $17 for a pulled pork sandwich to share but decided not to. Taking a walk through Waikiki, sat down at the bar with 4 people at it. Ignored for the first 3 minutes. Doesn't sound like long but for a place that isn't crowded at all, it's too long considering our bartender was just chatting. No jaegerbombs so we ordered two well vodkas with Red Bull. Bugs in both of them. It's Waikiki so you expect hiked prices but $25 for well vodka is crazy considering at Bubba Gumps down the road we paid $4 and the staff was friendly and attentive. I have never experienced a worst waitress than the one we had while at the Tapa Bar while staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. She took our order with absolutely no emotion, thank you or anything. Brought the wrong drink with no apology, and never came back to ask if we wanted another drink or to check on us, just dropped the bill off on our table. It wasn't like she was overly busy but when we experienced her sour attitude the next evening I knew that this was her poor personality. Wish I was able to get her name and gave two stars for the entertainment. On the other hand we had the complete opposite experience at the Tropics Bar. 5 stars for their staff!! read more

Eh just okay it's pretty hard to mess up a mai tai! Drinks are a little over priced 16 dollars for a martini and 13 for a mai tai but it's a resort they make their own prices. This being said I would recommend the tapa bar for a quick drink. read more

This is the worst bar ever. I'm giving it one star because I can't give it any less and because my amazing husband and his work associate somehow salvaged the night with their senses of humor. Named for the sacred cloth made by Hawaiian women, there is nothing special or even uniquely Hawaiian about this joint. Our waitress was a dour woman who deliberately mislead us about the size of portions in order to sell more menu items. She warned us that the kitchen was running behind and that it would take 45 min for food. It almost seemed like she was trying to talk us out of the food and perhaps we should have just left at that point. Nonetheless, we told her that we were fine with a wait because we wanted to drink and talk a bit. We ordered our food and tucked in to wait. For $120 ($103 plus an unearned tip), and 20 minutes later, we got three mediocre drinks, 2 salads (each with exactly 2 slices of tomato, 2 slices of carrot, 2 slices of cucumber, and five crappy croutons), 10 slimy buffalo wings, and a clunky, greasy sandwich that was impossible to bit or to cut. The waitress just dumped all the containers all on the small table and left. In hindsight, I think the food came straight from the poolside Wiki Wiki Market. The food was terrible. The salad was perhaps "okay" but the rest was revolting. I had about a bite or two of each item and have been sick ever since. When it came time to sign the check, the waitress didn't bring us a pen (I had to wait at the bar and get the attention of an elusive barkeep to ask for a pen with which to pay for the trainwreck of a meal.) As for drinks, the waitress just sort of set them on the table without explanation. Our friend's merlot was easy to discern from the three choices but we couldn't really be sure about our two cocktails. What I thought was the "Kamekona Margarita" I ordered was, in fact, not a margarita at all. Any fan of the rebooted television show, Hawaii Five-0, knows that the name, Kamekona, implies a huge drink to match the personality of the television character but I was served a strange, sweet, pink concoction in a flimsy 10 oz plastic cup (not even a SOLO cup). (I have since learned that my drink was actually a "Kono Kalākaua" and not at all what I ordered.) The "Yakuza Tea" was an unappealing, murky grayish-brown drink served in a 12 oz plastic cup. On that note, for a bar that is sprawled through the lobby of the Hilton Hawaiian Village, I would have expected glasses, plates, and real utensils. Nope, everything was pre-prepared and served in plastic clamshell packaging. (Why were we told by our unhappy server that we'd have to wait on the kitchen if the food was not even fresh?) We were provided paper plates with ridiculously tiny (and ineffective) forks and knives. I could have had, and have had, better food at any 7-Eleven or in economy class on a budget airplane. So disappointed with the entire experience and embarrassed that I even suggested eating at Tapa in the first place. The Hilton let me down terribly and I'll not forget this dreadful experience. (Did I mention that my husband has been a Hilton Honors Diamond member for years? That might have to change.) I'll never bother to walk to that part of Waikiki again for anything and I'll never stay at the HHV either. As far as I'm concerned, Waikiki now ends at the Hale Koa (which is where we should have stayed for dinner). Seriously, the tourism board ought to have a look at this embarrassing establishment. Conrad Hilton is surely rolling in his grave. Avoid this bar like the plague. Save your hard-earned money and go somewhere--anywhere--else on Waikiki. read more

I only go here when Jerry Santos is singing because I'm a diehard fan. However, it was my birthday and we were passing by so we stopped in after dinner. The place was completely packed and we had to wait for seats. It only got more crowded as closing time approached. Even though it wasn't Jerry Santos, the music was better that what you hear in a lot of hotel bars. The drinks start at $11.00 and go up from there. I had a pina colada, my husband had a Hawaii Five-0. Both drinks were good sized and packed a real wallop. My husband is accustomed to having a drink in an evening, but he fell over as he started to walk away. That's never happened before. (Maybe we're just getting old). I'd go again, but I'll definitely make sure Jerry's gonna be there. read more

This place kind of sucks. The staff don't seem to care about anything except getting a tip. They really don't want to be there and it shows. The location is between towers and a pool, so the view and atmosphere is like the lobby of a Motel 6. But do the prices for this dive bar make up for it? I have visited this bar numerous times. The mai tais are delicious and the daily happy hour is a great deal for Honolulu. Unfortunately most of the servers and bartenders are quite slow. Luckily I found a great server named Teresa. I make sure to sit in her section every time we visit. She takes great care of me and excels at customer service! She is a real gem at the Hilton Hawaiian Village. She has made every experience at the Tapa Bar outstanding! I look forward to the next time I visit Hawaii and Teresa! (I think the "Maui Mai Tai" is my second favorite in Waikiki, behind the Hale Koa's.) They make a very strong Tropical Itch here. Large seating area much bigger than Tropics but usually almost as crowded. In between three towers of the HHV and typically noisy. It's great for a quick drink before dinner or just to hang out afterwards. It's closer to the street so no view of Waikiki Beach. A plus is the live music. read more

We're currently staying at the Hilton Hawaiian Village & decided to watch the Super Bowl at Tapa Bar since it's right below us. The bartender Larry was great! He was super friendly & makes awesome drinks. The rest of the staff was also very friendly. The Super Bowl Buffett wasn't too bad after a few drinks. So, Friday, after the fireworks, of course it's packed. Of course I expect to have to wait a bit to get service. We decided to listen to the live music at Tapa bar and we were lucky enough to snag a table. My son loves anything with drums and there was a cool percussionist that night so, yeah, awesome. I was ready to pay for overpriced drinks and some overpriced pizza, just so my son can enjoy the percussion along with the guitar playing singer. Twenty minutes later, I was like oh yay, a server is coming to take our order. Nope. She didn't even acknowledge us. Took the menu off our table and gave it to some tourists at another table. (We're locals who were doing a staycation). Nothing against the tourists, I hope they enjoyed themselves, but that is no way to treat anyone visiting the bar. We decided to leave at that point. I wasn't about to wait another twenty minutes for some rude server to take my order. I kept my money that night and used it to have a fabulous lunch the next day somewhere else in Waikiki. Sorry Hilton, we tried to throw our money at you, but your people didn't want to take it. read more

This place, near the Tapa Pool at Hilton Hawaiian Village, actually has a decent happy hour (vs.Tropics, which is terrible). Beers are $4 and Mai Tais are $5 from 4:00-6:30. That's a good price - if you can actually get service. We waited nearly 30 minutes in between drinks, futilely trying to get the bartender's attention. Then two minutes after happy hour ended he said we'd missed it. It was busy. We'd asked another bartender to pitch in, but he said he couldn't work that side of the bar. This is one of the many Hilton Village hotel bar. Tappa bar. They have live music every night. The ambience is good. The drinks are a little pricey. $10 dollars beers and other cocktail drinks are $11 plus. Happy hour is from 430pm to 630pm. Beers go down to $7 along with some drinks like Mai Tai. Overall a happy place. The one drawback is the lack of food items on menu. Only pizza and its like $29 for a large pizza (King Arthur's Supreme and the Gourmet Veggie). Would recommend more appetizers like nachos, chicken wings or some snacks to go with the drinks especially most have children near the pool area. read more

I understand its a hotel bar and you upcharge things, but the fact all the food is $17 (including appetizers) and the food LITERALLY comes from round table is a little ridiculous. Especially since i could have ordered from them for cheaper and got more food.
