I came here for lunch this past Monday. I actually love this place. The food is delicious. However, I saw quite a few things that disgusted during this visit. First off the bartender constantly was scratching his hair. There is no issue with scratching but why are not washing your hands directly after. Then I watched him open the drawer where the chips are stored and put his hand in them without a glove and eat a chip. Then he went back got another chip, with his bare hand, then dipped it in the guac and ate it. Then he back behind the bar to make a drink, still not wash his hands. So touching lemons, blueberry's, mint, etc behind the bar and serving the public. If the staff is doing this front of customers, I could just imagine how the food is being prepared in the back. It's so hard to find good (vegetarian!) mix and match tacos...luckily Taq delivers! This place truly is a hidden gem and has great options for everyone, along with reasonable pricing. Their classic margarita is delicious (they have a lot of different flavors as well). To begin, the Esquites are a must (love how they make them here, it's more like a corn dip!) and the Nachos are also solid (although I wish they used a queso rather than just melted cheese). There are so many vegetarian options for tacos - my favorites were the Buffalo Cauliflower and the Falafel. The Eggplant was also solid, but could have used a bit more sauce. Cute spot located downtown. I met my friend after work for dinner and it was really nice. The outside patio was busy, but we dined indoors and it was very relaxed/ casual. Overall, everything tasted great. I do think they make their own tortillas because the tacos were stuffed but didn't fall apart. Definitely worth a return visit. I used to come here quite often when they had the lunch promotion where you get 3 tacos and they take 5 dollars off. That deal made it a great spot for lunch and honestly I probably ended up drinking more beers than eating tacos. They no longer have that promotion and now it starts later in the afternoon at 3 which makes it less appealing as a lunch place. I came this time with a group of 7 and while there was enough room for everyone, the overall experience just didn't feel the same as before. The food was fine but not as flavorful as I remembered. Without the old promotion it loses some of the charm that used to make it a go-to spot for me. Still a good place but I would probably take more time before coming back again. read more

I Tried Toa Tacos in Tribeca and wow I'm officially hooked. The nachos were stacked and loaded just right perfectly crisp chips, melty cheese, fresh pico, and all the toppings without getting soggy. But the real star was the shrimp tacos. Juicy, seasoned shrimp with just the right amount of spice, topped with a creamy sauce that pulls it all together. Fresh, flavorful, and definitely worth the hype. I sat at the bar and the service was great!! The food came out fast and the drinks were Amazing. Fabulous tacos. Fabulous margaritas. Fresh ingredients. Lovely service. A bit too noisy at times. The bar can get really loud and the acoustics there amplify the sound. There is no kids menu but kids are good with 1-2 tacos. The tacos are regular sized and not small street tacos. Some tacos are slightly dry and could use some sauces on the side or drizzled on top. This spot just opened in Tribeca as an outpost of a place from Ann Arbor MI. The staff is super nice and accomodating, and it's pretty good for people with dietary restrictions because you can remove most ingredients. Tacos are sold individually and run about $7 per taco. That sounds steep until you realize how gigantic these tacos are. I got the frito (fried chicken) and eggplant tacos and both were good! They also serve alcohol. It's a sit down spot. read more

First time here. Staff is great. Drinks are great. Very cool vibe. Unfortunately, the tacos look a lot better than they taste. Disclaimer: Several of us are not fans of corn tortillas - they have that taste like you're eating wet cement, so there's that. Not sure why most places don't offer a flour option that doesn't interfere/alter the taste of the food. The guacamole was decent. A bit too acidic for me, and I much prefer chunks of avocado, like Dos Caminos. This was a bit too creamy. The corn is great however. That is probably the best dish on the menu. That being said, the overall issue we had with the tacos we tried, and we nearly tried them all, is they're dry. Only two exceptions - the frito which has dill sauce, and the pastor. The rest of the tacos had very little flavor combinations and were overall lacking sauce/moisture. Again, we're probably in the minority as most seem to love this place, but we're big time sauce/topping people and we felt the tacos look much better than they taste. read more

Really great tacos with creative combinations here. Very fresh ingredients. The fried chicken and waffles with maple syrup taco (comes with bits of bacon) is better than the actual real thing. The Scallops Taco is amazing! I also love that the pork taco that comes with pineapple comes with real pineapple that's grilled and not from a can. The chocolate dessert taco was also delicious. My server was amazing & explained everything to me. During brunch on weekends, And maybe also during certain happy hours, It's $5 off when you get three tacos. Most tacos are about $7 dollars each. The food was very dry, tasteless, soggy and old. Maybe because I came at the end of the night, but it seemed rushed and was freezing cold by the time I arrived at my destination 8 minutes later. When I called to express my dissatisfaction of course the gentleman who answered the phone literally talked my ear off about how this couldn't possibly be the case (because obviously we sat together in my home to share this said meal). So much to the point that I had to let him go because I could tell I was getting no where. Why dine at a place that feels there's never any room for improvement or atleast listen to the customer so the next person wont have the same experience. At that time I had given up on this place and booked with another vendor who is MUCH MORE PROFESSIONAL IN ALL ASPECTS! And so I told the general manager at TAQ that we decided to book elsewhere due to their lack of response and the unprofessional email is the response their manager gave. This company does not know that I'm well known, and not only did they missed out on a returning customer, but referrals and not to mention that a $1000+ order. I will NEVER recommend anyone come here nor will I again. I own a small business and answer EVERY email in a timely manner no matter how busy we get. They should be ashamed! read more

I was here tonight, on a Friday night from 6-8pm. The place was empty, which should have been my first sign. Every single staff member that we encountered was rude, arrogant or condescending. From the host, to the waiter (a blonde new hire), to the manager. The food sadly was woefully inauthentic, bland, and boring. When paying the bill we asked the waitress to put $30 more on one card to which she responded with an arrogant attitude, "I can't do that. Our system doesn't allow that. We don't do that here." (So which one is it?) She clearly didn't want to be bothered. I told her that was highly unlikely, but asked what can be done. She begrudgingly said "Well, I can itemize it". As we began to tell her what we wanted on each bill she grew further annoyed. I stopped and instead asked her for a pen so we can mark the items for each card to make it easier (since itemizing was her idea!) She then with an increasing attitude said "I dont know. I don't have a pen. People don't usually ask for this." As if it was beneath her to have to split a bill with one person paying more than the other. I had to insist that she get a pen as she just stood there resistantly. She proceeded with a huff and a puff to the bar as I watched her theatrically act out her version of what transpired at our table to the other staff! The level of arrogance and lack of professionalism throughout this venue is an embarrassment. I would never go back. Don't waste your time here. If in the neighborhood instead go to the restaurant next door "Warren Place", which had every table filled and when I passed by the staff was nothing but kind and welcoming. If wanting Mexican there are plenty of other options worth the money. read more

I am worried this place may not survive. I want it to live! - The drinks are very good (genuinely quality tequilas, interesting cocktails, reasonable prices.) - Some of the appetizers are excellent, especially the nachos and the elote (they make their own chips and they are good) - Some (not all) of the 'weird' tacos are tasty, if probably a tad spicy for most people. The problems are that the place is very cold feeling, especially when it's empty as it usually is, and the main dish, the fusion cuisine tacos are mostly meh. Worse, they are almost impossible to practically eat without getting the food everywhere, because the corn tortillas (which make excellent chips when refried, see above) collapse immediately when you add the wet fillings. And there's no plates or cutlery, just these stupid taco holders on trays with lining paper. So the tacos fall apart, and you can't even eat the filling because it's stuck in these stupid metal racks and/or the pulpy paper. I wonder if anyone behind the restaurant has really tried to eat the food. I sort of doubt it. read more
