So my buddy and I were in the area at a local brewery for a pretty special beer release and in doing so we had to arrive at like 8am and they were not opening until like 11am.To make matters worse,it's like 2 hours from home,so we basically have been on the go since before 6am. So after settling in line and realizing we were in for the long haul-my breakfast burrito craving instincts started kicking in,so I jumped on my phone and opened Yelp and saw this interesting looking spot wasn't too far away.With my spot secure in line by my buddy,I jumped in my car and headed to Taqueria California in Windsor. The shop is located in a multi tenant shopping center so parking is zero issue. Walking in I was greeted by the amazing smell of breakfast meats cooking with those beautiful Mexican spices,I knew I was in the right spot. The very friendly staff took my order of 2 breakfast burritos-I got a Bacon version and a Chorizo version-they cost $13.00 each Both came with a green and red sauce on the side and also a complimentary small bag of chips. I ended up trying a little bit of the bacon burrito,since it was my friends,it was pretty good and one can never go wrong with a bacon breakfast burrito-but honestly my chorizo burrito was amazing. It was perfectly seasoned-not overly greasy-and then paired with the two salsa-each bite was better than the next.The potatoes went so well with the eggs and chorizo and cheese-I enjoyed it very much. This was the perfect meal to start off what ended up being a big day of beer drinking at the brewery. I can only judge the burrito since my partner in crime did the short distance run while I held down our spot at Russian River for the Pliney release. As far as Breakfast Burritos go, This was top notch. A nice ratio of meat, potato,egg with sour cream and a fresh tasty pico de gallo all combined in a great tortilla and wrapped beautifully for easy consumption. First time here and we loved it! It's an order-at-the-counter type of place--they ask which table you'd like and then bring the food to you. They serve chips with two salsas (green and red--sorry, I don't know the names). Both are pretty spicy, so if you're sensitive to heat, it might be a bit much. And that's coming from someone who loves spicy food and could still feel the kick. My husband and I shared the carnitas quesadilla, which was a generous portion and tasted great. We also tried the Nutella-filled churros, and they were delicious as well. The service was lovely--despite ordering at the counter, they still checked on us, which I really appreciated. Came here with my sister and her man, it's a place they enjoy. My first time. I was hoping for a chicken soup but sadly they don't offer any here. So after pursuing the options I ended up getting the 2 taco combo plate with carne asada. The food was alright, not as seasoned as I'm used to. The beans were ok and the rice same. Service was fine, ambiance was bright and open and clean, that part was great. I've always seen this place as I visited the shopping center it's located in, but I never thought of trying it out. As I was approaching Taqueria California, I heard some music coming from within the restaurant which helped me become more comfortable with trying a new spot. I chose the carne asada plate either flour tortillas and a fountain drink. Rarely do I have soda, but it hit the spot with my dinner. Fairly large portions to where I was able to take some home. While I was eating, I noticed a steady flow of traffic. They must be on Uber Eats or Door Dash cause there were a lot of pickup orders during the stormy weather we were experiencing. In my opinion, my only dislike were the chips, but my mother liked 'em. Definitely will be back for lunch or dinner. I m not sure if they're open for breakfast. read more

I've been here a few times, and my favorite dish is the fried whole fish with rice and beans. It always hits the spot especially with red salsa and a squeeze of lime. The fish is super fresh and crispy every time. The chips were a little overcooked on this visit, but we still ate them anyway.My friend ordered the beef soup, which was also good, but I definitely liked my dish better. The staff were friendly and kind, and we were surprised (in a good way) to see a robot serving food! I've only seen that at sushi places before, but as long as it brings the food to the right table, it's all good! The environment was warm and welcoming. I've eaten here multiple times, dining in and take out, and only have amazing things to say about this Mexican Restaurant. The outside is unassuming, although as soon as you walk in you are met with friendly faces and the staff are all so nice and welcoming. It's a casual place to relax and enjoy an amazing meal. The menu is extensive, which I love. I also personally love that there are lots of pictures so you can visualize what you are getting. The service was quick both when I've gotten things to go and when I've dined in the restaurant. My go-to is the vegetarian burrito. It is so flavorful and delicious! It's large in portion and it's enough for me to have leftovers for lunch the next day. I'm looking forward to branching out and trying some of their other menu items because there is so much on the list that looks delicious that I want to try! read more

Looking on Yelp, we found Taqueria California. My husband was skeptical as we live in SoCal with some amazing Mexican food places. We found it in the same strip mall as all the Yelp 4 star places, making my husband even more skeptical. Once inside you order from the large picture menu on the wall. There was a very nice young man and woman taking our order and providing service. They truly provided 5 star service. I ordered a Chile Relleno, and my husband a couple of tacos. The beans and the Relleno were superb and the carnitas in the tacos were crispy. Everything was absolutely delicious! We love staying in Healdsburg and enjoying wine country. The service was quick and the menu is extensive, including Agua Frescas like Horchata and Jamaica which were super tasty. I ordered two fish tacos which had just the right amount of hot sauce. My husband had the biggest and beefiest steak quesadilla I've ever seen. It was yummy and about an inch thick and at least a foot wide! Even though this spot is located in a strip mall and is unassuming from the exterior, the inside includes some nice touches like Mexican music, beautiful Mexican plates mounted on the walls, a few nice paintings and high ceilings. Service was friendly and helpful with any questions, water refills at the machine. They also had a machine to bring food out as well that shows a kitty emoji after delivering things which was nifty. So, the burrito. In a number of places the veggie standard is lettuce, rice, beans, cheese, sour cream. So, I added fajita veggies and avocado for a charge for each to hopefully boost it, but there wasn't really any fajita veggies in it despite paying for it. There's better veggie burrito options in town with actual vegetables. For 15 dollars, this was a waste. On another note though, their salsas were good at least. read more

Best Mexican food in Windsor! My husband and I were looking for a new Mexican restaurant to eat at. We tried a few and were not happy. Luckily tonight we had a great dinner at Taqueria California. I called them to order take out. Girl on the phone did not seem like she understood my order. I ordered two enchilada plates-- one with cheese and one with carne asada. She asked if I wanted anything else, I said no. She asked again.. I said no. She asked my name for the order twice again. She told me my total would be around $50 for two plates... which seems pretty crazy. She said it would be ready in ten minutes. My boyfriend went to pick up and they said they did not have my order. I was very confused. I called ahead and had poor phone service and STILL my order was not in the system??? Seemed weird to me. I work in food service and this made me very upset. We had to place a whole new order and wait the whole time again. I order from here frequently and had never had a bad experience. I normally order delivery from Doordash.. and that's saying a lot. This looked like a cool place to grab dinner. I think this location used to be a Starbucks a few years back. I placed my to-go order. The cashier asked if I wanted napkins and forks with my order. I said yes. I paid for my order and waited over 20 minutes for it. When my order was ready I grabbed it and left. When I got home I opened my container to check it out. There were no napkins or forks in the bag Hmmm. I did ask for them. I tried the enchiladas. I chose the red sauce. There was way too much red sauce on them. The shredded chicken tasted good, but there were a few too many hard, burnt and grisly pieces to truly enjoy the enchiladas. The rice was good, just not enough of it. The beans were soupy and had not one bit of seasoning. They were super plain. I want to feel like I can give them another try and hope this was just a rare icky food encounter. We'll see. read more
