When I'm craving street food tacos, El Taco de Jerez is the move. This is not a "play it safe" taco situation, and I love that for me. If you're sticking to asada or chicken, that's fine... more lengua and tripa for the rest of us. The lengua is tender and full of flavor, and the tripa is done right. Crispy, satisfying, and not chewy or weird. My tacos came pre-garnished with chopped onion and cilantro, which they confirm when you order. Appreciate the respect. And let's talk about the champurrado. So good, especially on a cooler evening. Comfort in a cup and the perfect post-taco sip. They also have other menu options like burritos, tortas, mulitas, and quesadillas if tacos aren't your thing (but honestly, get the tacos). They usually add sliced cucumbers and limes on the side, and you'll get one salsa by default, so if you like it saucy, just ask for more. The cashier was friendly, and they call out your number pretty quickly. This is a takeout, stand-on-the-sidewalk kind of spot and that's exactly how it should be. Just moved to the Ave and moving day was exhausting. It was pretty late by the time the movers left and I was obviously in no mood or had the energy to make something to eat. So I drove down the Ave and saw this food truck with a line and people sitting at the folding tables. I got a Lengua burrito and I ordered it to-go because honestly I was too tired and cold to sit outside. The burrito was fire! It had great flavor, the meat was soft with a slight chew and it was a hefty burrito. I tried the green chili sauce and I liked it too. It wasn't spicy. I also got a Diet Coke which my total came out to $16. Not bad. They also prepared my burrito pretty quickly. I think I had to wait maybe 7-8 minutes with a few people ordering before me. First time here in Ventura & needed a late night snack. It's your general Taco truck experience, nothing crazy here, but there are a few folding tables & chairs to sit down at if you'd like. It wasn't too busy, but was never empty while we were there. It's on the corner, & parking wasn't an issue, but again, it wasn't too busy. The wait seemed pretty average all things considered. Got 3 tacos (asada, pastor, suadero) & 2 muelitas (asada & pastor). Toppings-wise, the tacos were decently garnished, but I wished they had a salsa bar for additions. I do appreciate the pepino (cucumbers) & limes that came with them, though regretted not asking for grilled veggies as well. The muelitas came with a green sauce, that wasn't too flavorful in my opinion. The asada & pastor weren't anything to write home about, I wouldn't come back for them given the bountiful options elsewhere. But the suadero? Juicy & flavorful; Not overcooked as can be common. And the muelitas were extremely cheesy, though a little bit too greasy for my partner's liking. Overall, I'm still new to the area so will be looking around still, but def wouldn't mind coming back for the suadero, or trying some of their other options, since they have so many in both meats & delivery method (tortas, nachos, etc.) read more

There's a reason the red taco truck on the Ave has been there forever and has plenty of customers on the weekends. Located on the Ave and Simpson in the parking lot of the tire shop. If you can't find parking in the tire shop- try across the Ave or the car wash. The food is priced very reasonably and is a great local spot. The food always comes out fast, and they have champurrado for when you're cold! When we are unsure what to eat on the weekends, tacos from here is always a go to option. They have seats to eat there but we mainly end up taking it home. They will charge if you use card I believe, so bring cash if you can. The tacos are flavorful and I love the cucumbers they give you. I usually opt for a burrito and a few tacos. Definitely try the food here, you won't be disappointed for the price and taste. I come here at least once every 2 weeks and have been doing so for many years. I recently came to get al pastor, asada, and tripa tacos. My personal favorite is the al pastor tacos but I get the other meats for my family. Their mulitas are really good too but I only like the al pastor ones. For this cold weather, this is the place to get a champurrado. I get one about every 2 weeks but you have to go before peak hours or they do run out of it. I also always ask for extra cebollitas for my tacos and they offer lots of salsa options. This place is also closed on Mondays so make sure to come on another day of the week. read more

Oh yes. This truck was just across the street from our Airbnb and it was awesome to walk over and grab some tacos. Prices are so good and wow were they fast!! We ordered 4 tacos and a quesadilla for $15 bucks! And they took credit card which was helpful. Extras like cucumber and grilled onion on the side were awesome. All very good! This is for a visit to El Taco De Jerez on Saturday, May 27th, around 7:00pm. After driving past all of the Taco Trucks on the Avenue for what seems like years, I decided to finally try one. Online research and reviews pointed me to what seemed like the best choice, so I trundled off in search of the perfect taco. Unfortunately, when I arrived my first choice was not there, neither was my second choice, so I ended up at the third and definitely last choice, El Taco de Jerez. I ordered a Pastor taco and a chicken burrito, and took them home. She told me the taco would be marinated pork. I don't know what the meat actually was, but it was dry, tough and flavorless, as if it had been left over from the night before. The only things with any flavor were the lime and cucumber on the side. The burrito was not much better. I did find some pieces of what looked like meat in it, and since they were light colored, it fit with the idea that they could be chicken. However, they also exuded the same dry, flavorless personality as the meat from the taco, so I can't tell you exactly what they were. In fact, the whole burrito was very bland and flavorless, although I did taste cilantro and onion. Granted, I did ask for the salsa on the side, so it was not souped up with salsa to give it some taste, but if you have to rely on salsa to give the meal any flavor, then something is wrong. Even Taco Bell can make a burrito with good flavor, without putting any salsa on it! There is always a crowd around this place, so I am guessing that my experience is not the norm. Nonetheless, I will not be back, and I will not recommend it to anyone else. The next time I decide to try an Avenue taco, if my first choice truck isn't there I will go to one of those illegal pop-up joints that are starting to dot the Avenue. Looking at them as I drive by, they seem to have a plethora of items and lots of customers. I would rather spend my money with the hard-working people in the trucks who pay all of the fees and have the required permits, but I can't afford to eat out very often, so I need to make sure the adventure is worth it. read more

Visited El Taco De Jerez for the first time around 8:00pm yesterday. It wasn't busy and there are some seating. I put in my order and everything was ready within 47 seconds. I ordered three rounds of tacos. 1. I started with the pastor and asada. They were freaking delicious, so I ordered a second round. 2. I ordered the lengua and cabeza next. The cabeza was soft, tender, and had so much flavor. 3. My last round was pollo and chorizo. The chicken wasn't anything special, but I just wanted to try it just to say I tried it. The chorizo was good. I'll def. be back. Such a good deal for six tacos. They take credit cards, but there is a 0.50 cent charge. read more

Usually always very fast! We frequent here a lot and have yet to encounter problems and our order has never been incorrect. We usually get the veggie burrito, steak quesadillas and switch off on different tacos. And the green salsa is our favorite. The I haven't posted a review here each time I visit is because I'm usually distracted by a) the anticipation of eating some tacos here b) savoring every delicious bite or c) managing my food coma long enough to get back home. In all seriousness these are so far my favorite tacos on the Avenue in Ventura and my favorite place to eat in the are as well. My favorites are asada, tripas, pastor, lengua. I always ask for extra cilantro/cebolla and cucumber. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars and not 5 is because sometimes the quality and service is inconsistent, meaning that the tortillas might be greasy and/or undercooked and the customer service might be a miss. 4.5 stars would be accurate because this does not happen often. Definitely highly recommend! If you happen to see me and wave but I don't wave back it's probably because I'm intensely focused on my delicious meal!! read more

This is my Tuesday spot when I drive by love the champurado and tacos can have a little more meat. To empty for a small tortilla. My most complaint is the service on getting an order right. On several occasions the burrito Eder is always wrong. Plain asada just beans and cheese. Get home to Oxnard every time an entire scoop of rice. Why is it so hard to get an order right? Stop being so fast that you miss the mark on getting a customers order right. Customers service can be better. Just so disappointed after spending $25 on a burrito and some tacos. Nestled in an unassuming corner on the road from Ventura to Ojai is where I found this delightful red food truck, quite by chance as it so happened to be right across from my work had taken me. I saw the excellent reviews, noticed the lines were short and a small group of customers were eating at the humble tables by the side of the truck, and thought sure why not give it a try. My work brings me from the far reaches of the Inland empire to the hustling and bustling neighborhoods of LA to Hollywood and the valley and beyond so I've certainly had my fair share of burritos. I ordered a lengua burrito from a friendly worker and it wasn't long before my number was called. The burritos are MASSIVE here, gargantuan and thick, warm and well wrapped. Unfortunately I couldn't stop to eat so I had to have mine on the road back to Los Angeles. It's strange to say but biting into the beast, I thought back to my childhood days when I was first discovering the pleasure to be had from a simple but delicious bean and cheese burrito. Yes it had lengua, and it was a delight to have, chewy and tender as good lengua tends to be, but combined with the copious cheese and beans and my thoughts told me this was comfort food, if a lengua burrito could be such a thing. Truly a hearty meal, the combinant elements working harmoniously together in such a lovely fashion. It may be some time before I return but from the burrito alone I would have to come back for their other items. May their business thrive on that sleepy little coast side avenue. read more

This is a great little taco truck located on the NW corner of N. Ventura Ave & Simpson St. in Ventura. It's particularly convenient when you're looking for something to eat after 10pm during the week and everything seems to be closed. The burrito for $6 ($8 for Lengua) is a great deal for what you get. I've had the Asada and Cabeza, both were good. Somebody mentioned in another review that the burritos were massive but I don't think that's the case; these are normal sized burritos. The tacos are flavorful as well and priced at $1.50 for most of the meats. It would be nice if they had some kind of "Taco Tuesday" where the tacos were $1 like some other places but I'm not going to knock off a star for that. The flavor and seasoning of the meat is really good...meat and tortillas are a bit undercooked ...more heating up of the tortillas and meat will help with the infusion of the seasoning of the meat as the lengua was raw and the chicken was a bit cold to the bite....I didn't see enough meat in some tacos except cilantro and onions...consistency would help. Also, I would recommend an additional cook to help on busy nights like Friday nights and weekends in order to prevent the undercooking of the food served. Ohh yeah, the champurrado...it's a MUST...not one...not two...but 4 or more serving...with a bolillo! read more
