This review is for the pollo and asada tacos. The tacos were just meh...too salty. The meat seemed to be more ground up meat versus grilled meat that was cut up. There really wasn't any stand out flavor in the tacos and they were greasy. Tortillas seemed to be homemade which is a positive, but they were a little stiff. I paid $14 and change. For the price, I rather pay a little bit more and go across the street and get Tacos Los Cholos. Also, the lady at the front seemed a little irritated with me. I noticed a change when she spoke Spanish to me, and I responded in English. I look Hispanic, but I am not lol. After that, she was a little short with me. I told her the order was to go when she asked. Then when my order was ready, she just said, "order ready!". I looked at the other person in the restaurant which was a gentleman, because I wasn't sure if it was his order. Once I realized it was mine, she looked at me and said, "it was to go, right??" I told her yes as I was getting up to walk over to her. Once I got to the front, she asked me if I wanted red and green salsa. I said, yes. I asked her if they had the pickled carrots and jalapeño and she didn't respond and just handed me my food and said have a good day. I asked again, and she said it was in there. Like, ok...how was I supposed to know that. So, with the lackluster tacos and what I had to pay for them, and the poor customer service I will not be back. You would think being across the street from a popular Mexican food restaurant, you would step up your game, but sadly that wasn't the case here. read more

Yummmmmmm..... very good home cooking!!!! I ordered the chorizo breakfast burrito, and it was HUGE... it comes with 3 eggs, cheese, potatoes, and your choice of meat. Red and green salsa. Green is spicy, and the red looks like fire, but it's mild. They also give you carrots, limes, and radishes on the side. Tried this place and as soon as you walk in there is a foul smell of old meat. The tables were not clean and there was food all over the flloor. There was nobody in the restaturaunt in the middle of the day on a Saturday and the staff was just standing around not cleaning hte dining area. Looking for a little place that has some tender, juicy, melt in your mouth lengua tacos? This is the spot. I have not been to another place that has lengua as good as this. Top it off with some salsa verde to add that fresh citrus kick and a sprinkle of salt, heaven! The Chroizo quesadilla was nice and crisp, the chorizo and melted colby jack cheese blended nicely with the fresh topping of lettuce and sour cream. Greasy but delicious. I was worried I would have a bad experience coming here based off the reviews but to my surprise I came by for some tacos and not only were they really ready quickly for me to be able to walk in & out but the women who had, had the previous rough reviews was extremely attendant she wrapped everything up for me perfectly include a bunch of napkins and salsas for me to go & was sweet. Unfortunately the tacos weren't the best, the tortilla double layer was really thick not easy and almost greesy as you'd imagine tacos would be. The tacos were simply meat and preheated tortillas. The salsa really helped in taking them on lol Anywho the price is $1.50 per taco and that's good but maybe I'll go back to try something else because the meat wasn't terrible. My wife and I started coming to Taqueria El Rancho about a year ago and it has become one of our favorite restaurants for authentic delicious Mexican food. I started with the bacon and chorizo burritos but we have tried a ton more of the menu and I have not had a dish that didn't absolutely smack. The asada nachos, Tacos, breakfast burritos, salsa verde, and soups are some of our favorites. The green salsa is great, a little more spice than most. The red salsa is also packed with flavor and is more mild with sweet notes. This is the same Taqueria El Rancho that was on Brookhurst and they just moved to the new building and the reviews didn't transfer. We normally order to go but when we eat inside they also have great service. I saw a bad review about a smell, and want to address it. It's always clean when I have gone in, and sometimes it has a smell which based on my experience working in restaurants, smells like it's coming from the drains in the floor and not from what the previous review suggested. I ordered an enchilada plate and menudo. It was my boyfriend and I this past Saturday mid morning. Enchiladas were cold. they were just rolled up cold tortillas and cheese that was not even melted and drenched in cold salsa. The menudo was very bland. No flavor at all. The staff were not friendly. Not as clean as I'd like, and all but one of the employees were just BS'ing and looking the other way. Parking is one big guessing game, as the lot has not been painted in decades. Ever since I moved to California from SW TX I've been meaning to find a Mexican restaurant that can cater to my breakfast taco cravings. My idea of a breakfast taco includes spicy sausage with potato, egg with potato, egg with spicy sausage, etc. And after a lot of searching I finally found it. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in Orange County. I keep their menu and business card in my purse and another at work. They know me as la guerita that speaks Spanish. The food is great for any time of day, but I visit during breakfast and lunch time. I usually order the combo plate which always comes with Spanish rice and refried beans. Although the bulk of the plate are the two tacos, you can order just the meat (i.e. carne asada, chicken, etc). I get either two carne asada tacos with everything (cilantro, onions, and green/red chile) or chorizo con papa (spicy sausage with potato) tacos. All of this for $5.43 is not bad. You can include a drink I guess and a flan too, but the plate itself normally fills me (BUT THE FLAN IS AMAZING! It tastes way better than Northgate Market flan). Their quesadillas are good too - both chicken and carne asada. They are large, cover the entire plate. They are thick and drenched in grease and filled with cheese with good portions of chicken or carne asada. The food comes out fast and you can order ahead of time and just pick it up if you're in a rush. Their liquado de platano (banana milkshake) is delicious. They have a lot of other selections of food, but I'm not very adventurous. They have soups and burritos, shrimp tacos, etc. *Update Dec. 2011: They also have chicken or beef flautas ("tacos dorados"). Basically they are tightly-wrapped tacos with your choice of chicken or beef, fried in oil, making the outside of the taco crispy. I've only tried the beef ones so far, but they are so good!!! It comes with 4 flautas (or tacos) with sour cream on top and guacamole sauce on the side, on a bed of lettuce, and a side of Spanish rice and refried beans, as usual. This is NOT a place for a date. I ordered four pastor street tacos with just cilantro, and onion. Got home and tossed them out. I went to tacos puro Jalisco on Gilbert and Valencia. The tacos at el Rancho didn't ever have the tortillas warm up. You know when a corn tortillas comes straight out of the bag it's cold dry and hard. It will break if you fold it.
