Decent tacos nearby. Don't fret about parking because there is a garage right behind the restaurant for the downtown area. We got lucky and got a spot super close. Not terribly busy but seems to do good business. I tried everything. The shrimp tostada was delicious, very tangy sort of like a ceviche in a tostada. I was a bit disappointed in the flavor of the carnitas. Carnitas is my benchmark for a good taco place and will keep me coming back. I didn't find the carnitas to be as flavorful as I would like and it tasted as though it was missing the flavor of good fat. I wouldn't get these again. I also tried the birria tacos. There were so good. I can't have dairy so I asked for them without cheese and they were able to accommodate which was awesome. The consommé was so good and flavorful, good enough on its own. The birria was tender and flavorful. The shells were a little chewy, since I've never had these before I don't know if this is normal but I would expect if they are fried that they would be crunchy. In the area where you would find so many big-name restaurants, I did not expect to be able to fine a good authentic Mexican restaurant like Taqueria Extra. I got their Limon Burrito. This burrito came with your choice of meat, beans, melted cheese, onions, cilantro and special sauce. I decided to go with Carne Asada. The burrito was really good and super tasty. The filling inside the burrito was very juicy. I'm not sure if that was from the meat itself or if it was from the "Limon" special sauce. However, despite this burrito being really saucy, somehow they were able to manage to keep the tortilla from getting wet or messy. It was super satisfying. With each order we also got a complementary side of tortilla chips, which were good as well. Price was $10.50 for the Limon Burrito (same as their regular burrito), as of April 2022. read more

This is my go to place for great Mexican food on Walnut Creek downtown. I recommend getting their california burrito and their super nachos. Most california burritos that I have tried elsewhere are super dry but Taqueria Extra on the other hand does a really good job with their California Burrito. The taste was amazing and they include guacamole in it with no extra cost. The burrito itself was only 12$. I ordered the super nachos with steak meat which also cost about $12 and came in generous proportion. It tasted really good and I was beyond full after the meal. They also include a free bag of chips and salsa like most other mexican restaurants. Service was quick and fast and I got my takeout order really quickly. When this place first opened up they were pretty good and a great price for the area. However last couple of times i have been very disappointed . Today I ordered a chicken enchilada and I think I've tasted better frozen ones. I don't know what they season with but it tastes nothing like Mexican food very sour and chicken was tuff. I am so happy that a decent fast casual Mexican taqueria opened in downtown! They have such a wide variety of items on their menu, even have a whole vegetarian section! In the past two weeks we have been here twice an both times were wonderful. We've hade their wet burrito with Chile verde, chimichanga, carne asada fries, and Chile Relleno Plate; all were amazing and had great flavor! I'm most impressed by their covid friendly salsa bar. Everything has been placed in single use packages which make it very easy to grab and go. Limon 3 just opened so we decided to give it a try. There is a few tables available outside but we decided to eat inside as it was not very busy and the tables were spaced generously. I ordered the 2 taco plate with no cilantro , and they had to remake it because they put cilantro on it. I also ordered 2 super tacos and 1 regular taco w/ guacamole. They gave me 2 regular tacos (1 with guacamole) and 1 super taco. Aside from just simply messing up the order, the lady wouldn't have caught it if I didn't bring up the no cilantro part when I picked it up. That's how she caught it, but what is annoying is that while they remade that, she checked the other tacos and didn't catch that the other part of the order was still wrong. Stop by here after going to Mike's bike shop. Thought we would try the other Taqueria Limon. We were not disappointed. I ordered the shrimp cocktail and my husband ordered the pastor tacos I ordered my shrimp cocktail cold. It was so refreshing and flavorful. It had a good mixture of cucumbers, tomatoes, cilantro, onion, and shrimp. My husband said the he enjoyed his pastor tacos. They provided us with chips and salsa, which were delicious. UPDATE - my follow up experience from management to my reviews was positive and prompt. I greatly appreciate that. Do not order from this restaurant - Jose and Maria specifically told us they were incapable of fixing this or providing us the right order. this is supposed to be a Super Quesadilla, two wet Classic Burrito, and a Fish Taco and Shrimp Taco . As you can see the tacos arrived completely smashed and falling off the plate. the two wet burritos are not wet because Jose said he couldn't press the extra charge button even though we have ordered this exact item on door dash before and never had issues, and the quesadilla came melted to a grease falling apart plate. When we called and spoke to Jose and Maria to make it right they pretty much told us nothing we can do have a good day. We offered to bring the food back and show them and they said no. We asked for. manager and they said tough luck. Such horrible customer service and it is truly a shame because this was my favorite find in 2023. read more

The service at Taqueria Extra is always courteous and prompt, whether it's for calling in an order, takeaway, or dining in. The staff goes above and beyond by bringing out a to-go order when I was waiting outside, wiping down the outdoor tables and chairs after a rain, and repeating the order back. The food was disgusting. The cooked it so wrong that my Mexican boyfriend who loves spicy couldn't handle my plate (I ask for no spicy ceviche) and it was really spicy. The lady from the register wearing 395857 pounds of make up was so rude. My boyfriend was dying because of the spicy and I ask for a water cup. She said she was on the phone and even though she heard me and the cups were right behind it, she was too lazy to do two things at the time. The bathroom was nasty as well. And also they wanted to charge us 6 dollars for a side of rice and six dollars for a side of beans and six dollars for anything. The lady didn't know the menu at all. I have to say, I'm surprised I've never been here before. I think it's kind of because of the decor. It just looks kind of gaudy. But then I finally went in there and had their food. It is in my opinion some of the best Mexican food in town. Their chips are perfect, crispy, a little bit thick and perfectly salted. The salsas are all very good ranging from a higher spice pico de gallo, to their regular blended red salsa which really isn't that hot (the pico de gallo was actually hotter on the day I visited) and the habanero was similar to chef Kevin's hot sauce at yacht club. As I waited for my order for take out - I treated myself to a Michelada and it was done right with Pacifico(you can choose beer). I ordered a wet carnitas burrito with the whole beans. I would go refried next time or the black beans. It hit the spot. Carnitas were nice and dry and they could use a touch more seasoning. This is a minor nit pick as the wet burrito was on the spot. The other order was a shrimp burrito that was tasty. They don't skimp on the shrimp they are small and plumb. Very tasty. First time here and I'd go back for more. Their special sauce is just a green sauce. The salsa and chips bar is good. I think this is always a nice addition for take out. Try it. read more

Food's great! I fell in love with this establishment at their Fremont location. Then their Martinez location. Tried the Walnut Creek location for the first time. There is a parking garage attached. Free for first 4 hours. And ground level is reserved for the patrons. However I left very dissatisfied with the Walnut Creek location. I went in for the happy hour. 3 tacos for $6. Great deal in this inflationary climate. But they don't offer the meat choice I like for the happy hour. They told me they'd just charge a little extra for the meat choice. I figured an extra $1 per taco was fair. Ends up they just charge me full price. $12 for 3 tacos. Fine, I didn't want to make a big deal out of it in the store. Be it that, I did ask if they could give me one little small salsa cup of cheese. Nope. They wanted to charge .60c for that. So in the end, NOT really friendly, accommodating, understanding. The other two locations are far better, friendly, accommodating, and a larger dining area. WC's too small. I advise to avoid the Walnut Creek location. read more

I can't get enough of this place. The burrito bowls are my favorite. I like to add lettuce to my burrito for a bit of greens. The shredded chicken is always flavorful and juicy.
