After a long day we all gather to have dinner Ajos y Cebollas. Is a very festive inside, cute chairs all different colors. A great menu we were 6 of us. We were only us another table inside for dinner But a lot of picks too. They serve beer and wine here. We all ordered it took a bit for our order but it was good. I had the pozole rojo it need a little salt But plenty in my bowl!! It made me happy I order corn tortillas and they came out hot. Menudo is the Best! The service is absolutely HORRIBLE!!! If a restaurant opens at 8:00 a.m., doesn't it mean that SERVICE STARTS WHEN THE RESTAURANT OPENS? The waitress had a horrible attitude when I walked in. She said that it is going to take some time because she had just arrived. I waited 40 minutes (I watched the time) until she served chips and salsa. The salsa came in the smallest cup. If I asked for more, she seemed bothered. By the time you get your food, it is almost 1 hour. I called several times to complain to Oscar (the owner's son), but I have not heard from him. Sadly, I will not come here again. I can't handle the waitress's rude attitude. The cook seems to hate working there, too! The food is NOT the same. I went in on a weekday. It was very quiet. I was the only one there. They took 25 minutes to get me my salad. I come here regularly and I noticed a big difference in service today. There was a different cook and waitress today. My husband and I were not greeted and told to sit wherever we want. We both got large pazoles and that took about 40 minutes. We heard the customers sitting behind us mention how long their food was taking and upset that they didn't have pancakes. I tried Ajos y Cebollas years ago when they first opened. So I stoped by today because I was craving a caffe de Olla. They did not disappoint. The coffee was authentic served with carmelized melted sugar (piloncillo). I ordered the machaca plate that came with refried bean and Mexican style potato's Como Tia made it. I started with a bowel of Fedeo soup. Like my Tia Carmen's. I also tried there capeotada. The capeotada was fancier than my Tia Carmela's. It was very good. Drizzled with chocolate and strawberry and peanuts and Carmel. Not too rich. I also tried there rice. The rice was very flaky and had good flavor. plan to return. It's worth the try. The only thing that was a negative would be the meal portion was a bit small for the price. You may not think so if you eat small portions. read more

This is a unique Mexican restaurant...this is truly a 'mom & pop' business and I hope it stays around for years to come! The vibe is always upbeat, the restaurant is always sparkling clean, the servers which are the family who owns the place are so kind and are always making sure that all is ok with what you have ordered, keeping your beverage filled or refilling your tortilla chips bowl full! The salsa's are so yummy here...there are many to choose from. We order many different items here, but my all-time favorite is the mug or bowl of Fideo - dont know what the heck Marcela (sp?) the cook does to the broth, but...it is so darn good!!! My husband's fave is the Cocido, Tamale, the Green Chilaquiles & the Huevo Ranchero...and, of course we both love the Cafe de la Olla - WOW!!! This was just a great spot and we really enjoyed the food. First off there were only two people working in this small spot when we arrived but they did a fantastic job. We started off with an awesome salsa bar. You go and get your chips and pick your own salsas. All were very distinct, flavorful and enjoyable. While we waited for our food there was a pile of Trivia Pursuit cards that were very fun to play. That was a nice touch. For an appetizer we went with the Rajas con Queso. Wow that was amazing. Pile of melted cheese in a small cast iron skillet with chorizo and some scallions. All melted to perfection and served with corn tortillas. I could have had a meal right there! I did the two item build your own combo. The chicken mole enchilada was phenomenal. I so enjoyed that mole sauce. Then I had the pork tamale. It was very good. I wish I tried a third item. I was excited to try this place I found out about it through restaurants.com where I purchased a $10 off coupon. A nice lady took my order, but when I went to pay, she explained that they haven't excepted these coupons for many years, even though I purchased it earlier that day. I paid the $50 for a wet burrito and a shrimp platter that had five pieces of shrimp a scoop of rice, which was very tasty and a handful of french fries. the only reason I went out of my way was because of the coupon so I was very frustrated that it was not accepted. I don't know whether a friend/acquaintance or a blog written by the then- Los Angeles Dodger Andre Ethier (Dining with Dre) brought me to this slice of home cooking (at least to me). The papas con huevos were like my late mom made for me. It was the same for the fideo, a pasta soup made with vermicelli, tomato sauce and chicken bouillon. The surprise touch is the cafe de olla, which is coffee made with a touch of cinnamon and other spices. My wife enjoys the enchiladas with mole, a sweet dark brown sauce made with chocolate and pasilla chiles. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone interested. NOTE: The majority of the above review was written throughout the last few years. They no longer have the papas con huevos on their menu and today, I tried to call them to order a takeout order. The call went to voicemail and gave the message that the voicemail was not set up. Since I now live fifteen miles away, I decided to drive down to order, thinking they were too busy to answer. I arrived about forty minutes later to find what is displayed in the following photos. It seemed that the restaurant is closed with no signs explaining the closure or whether they would reopen. I've been coming to this place for over 4 years since I'm big fan of their mole recipe and just overall a good restaurant. Even when this place had a bad rating I gave them my business but after today's visit I doubt ill ever come back.. right from when I arrived with my guest we didnt even get seated or aknoledge.. The girl who served our table was all over the place, she never brought proper silverware to our table, she seemed like she was having a bad day I understand. we all have bad days but don't ever forget that people aren't just there for the food they are also there for the service.. And if your going to say something about the customers make sure you do it from where customers can't hear you or see you. The last thing customers want to see or hear is you talking negative about then when there was an issue with the quality of food on your end. Not to mention found 2 hairs in the sopa de fideo.. what do you expect when the cooks don't wear any hair nets.. anyway thanks for the unpleasant experience also seems like the quality of the food is right up with the quality service POOR. TIP if your going to have an open kitchen where the customers can see you make sure you guys cover your head with a hairnet not sure what type of food handling training you guys got.. that ain't definitely ain't it. read more
