my experience was terrible. One of the waitresses don't know how to understand English and gave me the wrong order completely. Then the owner of the restaurant came up to me and said I should explain it better to her. Mind you she don't understand English how am I supposed to explain it to her better if she don't understand English. Then she started arguing with my friend who can speak Spanish and saying I ordered this, but I didn't. moral of this review make sure you have a friend that speaks Spanish so they can order for you because these people can't understand nothing. my order was two tacos with corn on it and cheese. and she messed that up. I didn't even eat here because it is obvious that they do not serve black people. I came in on a weekday, nobody but one family and me in the restaurant so not busy at all, the young lady and young man at the counter look at me as if I've interrupted them and tell me I can sit anywhere. I sat down for about 10 minutes while they just stood and talked to each other, no menu was given, no order was taken, and they just kept staring at me. Well it took three visits but I can now heartily recommend Taqueria La Carrera. This place was highly recommended to me but my first two visits were average at best. Then I went back for a third try with the recommender and was told what to order. The Birria Tacos are off the chart. Best I have had anywhere. This is a very authentic Mexican restaurant. If you try to order American or Tex/Mex you may or may not get the results you expect. Order authentic Mexican like the Birria Tacos or Pozole or Mole or Barbacoa and you will pleased. read more

Very hole in the wall ish .. but that doesn't make it bad at all. This is the kind of place that if you didn't know where it was you may not know how to get there or what it is. It's in a very large strip mall area so there's a lot of things already there. But this one is in a spot to where it has some seating outside so you can't miss it. They're going to be probably a lot of people sitting around on a nice day so just look for that lol. I sat at the bar so was greeted immediately But they do have seating areas by the bar and upstairs as well. So it may not look like it but this spot is actually pretty big and they have plenty of seats. The bar does not have a drink situation that you would expect. So don't go if you want to order a bunch of margaritas for your people. Like I said earlier, there is a bar, but the bar itself is not a fully stocked bar. Quesabirria - I thought that this was a really good pic, the reviews I read said that this was the go-to so I had to give it a shot. It came with a bowl of juice to dip the tacos in, not like a little cup, you got plenty! And it was very flavorful so that was good even though the tacos themselves already have some flavor to them. I smashed those three immediately! Chicken taco - chicken taco was kind of what you would expect. Had the cilantro had the onion, but it was good. It wasn't out of the box excitement, but it was a good flavor. Barbacoa taco - This is about the same as the chicken taco. Still good, but it was just a taco. Now to note, I don't know what it was, but it felt like some of the taco shells were a little tough to tear when you bent into it. Which was odd, but I eventually got over that but I just happen to notice that when I was trying to bite my tacos. Steak taco Tex mex - This tex mex taco was actually about the same or similar as the other two, it had stuff on it like lettuce, but the meat will similar. Thought it was good. It's what you would expect from an American taco. Not like a street taco you would get if you were abroad. Overall I like the spot. It's something away from a lot of hustle and bustle even though they're going to be a lot of people in this area just standing and sitting around. read more

La Carreta Mexican Grill & Taqueria, located in Northeast Plaza, provides an authentic Mexican food experience. The restaurant has expanded since my last visit (Pre-Pandemic) and now offers ample seating. Despite the bright red and green wall colors, it has a humble feel. Customer service was very good. The staff are friendly, helpful and provide suggestions. I Ordered Horchata, Caldo de Pollo (Chicken Soup), and the Quesabirrias. The horchata was good but I would have liked more cinnamon flavor. The soup contained bone-in chicken, potatoes, corn on the cob, and carrots. I appreciated the cilantro, onions, jalapeno, and limes on the side for a more interactive and individualized experience. The soup also came with piping hot corn or flour tortillas. There were also plenty of sauces to choose from to season the soup (red, green, Valentina, El Yucateco). Stylistically, I prefer not to have to remove bones from my soup but the soup was flavorful. I loved their quesabirrias. The flavorful beef birria, the melty oaxaca cheese, the crispy tortilla shell ... what's not to love? It was also tasty the day after (using my airfryer). La Carreta now has alcohol options, so I must come back for that alone. However, there are also numerous food items that look tasty, including their seafood options. read more

Run here don't walk. Let me tell you why! In a world where Tex-mex is considered authentic Mexican food, The food here is the real deal! And its absolutely delicious. There is live music and the energy is intoxicating. Everyone seem happy and engaging. There are tv's located throughout the restaurants playing soccer. The service was great. Our waitress made sure we were comfortable. She explained the menu and great detail. Was able to give some great recommendations and we weren't disappointed. I ordered the Camarones a la Diabla. I live for spicy food and this dish lacked no spice whatsoever. I loved that they were whole shrimp steamed to perfection and smothered in a spicy sauce. The shrimp does come with a salad, that's refreshing enough to cool your mouth down after such intense heat. I also ordered shrimp tacos that were so appetizing. The ceviche was by far the best thing I had from here. The shrimp were succulent and all the ingredients were fresh and it comes served on a tostada. My first time having it this way but going forward definitely my preferred way to eat it. Now I know must sound crazy but I do not recall their being a drink menu but they do have beer. But maybe it something I missed. There is more than enough parking being that this is located in a massive plaza. read more

I came here because they have good reviews and I wanted some tacos. This place is in a strip mall/shopping center. Plenty of parking but you have to get into the parking lot to see this venue. There is a farmer's market here. I came in and noticed they have outdoor seating under a structure and plenty of in door seating. I ordered at the bar and waited about 15 minutes for my order. They charge more for take out and using your credit card. I think 10% for take out and 4% for credit card. This is not a big deal to me so I still tipped on top of the extra charges. The birria tacos were great. I love how they put the menudo in a cup with a tight lid. The barbacoa tacos were filled with protein but could have used more seasoning. I got an order of the quesabirria tacos and one shrimp taco and one barbacoa taco. Everything was divine. Juicy, succulent, and full of flavor. It also comes with two salsas - a green salsa bottle and an orange salsa bottle. The orange salsa has a slight kick and the green salsa is nice and cuts through the fatty elements of the tacos. They were just eating, hanging out drinking, and watching soccer on the TV. I placed a to go order at the cash register after perusing the menu for a few minutes. The food was ready in about 15 minutes and I requested my sauces and we were on our way home. About 25 minutes later, I was eating my carne asada burrito. It was still fresh and the one carne asada taco I had was good as well. The burrito was packed with everything, and the ratio for each ingredient was just right. This is supposed to be a "Mexican" place, how can you have such bad rice? The food is not good. Normally the menudo I order has hominy- this establishments menudo was different. It's not the menudo I normally ask for. So I didn't want to pay for it. Used 2 tortillas per taco, but was a little smaller diameter than some shops. Taco was packed with meat and cheese. Greasier than it needed to be. Consumme was on the thin side lacking flavor. Tasted like a weak broth. Their salsa verde was great, and the orange house salsa was spicy enough to make your eyes water. Keep your eyes open in the parking lot if there late. It was a little bit later at night and they stay open til one and I love tacos so this was perfect for me. I couldn't figure out which door was open, they had to tell me twice, but I finally got in. I placed my order to go and they were really nice and really fast. I ordered three carne asada tacos and rice and beans. Let me tell you, for for a place I wouldn't have expected in Atlanta, these tacos tasted like Texas! The carne asada was cooked perfectly and they added limes and a roasted pepper along with a green sauce and another sauce that I didn't try, but the green sauce was amazing. The rice and beans were kind of disappointing. The beans were OK, but the rice was like an average white rice, I would've loved a little more flavor in it, but I mix it with the beans and it was pretty OK. For the three tacos and rice and beans it was a little over $16 which is a little more than I pay in Texas for the same meal, but it was pretty good and I was super full. They have a nice bar and it's a pretty big restaurant. For being in Atlanta, it was super authentic Mexican food. I would recommend. read more

I just left the farmer market and was looking for a restaurant to stop at to get something to eat before heading across town. I was in the mood for Mexican food so I decided to stop by Tequeria La Carreta. The restaurant is located within the shopping complex of City Farmers Market, just next to the nail salon and hair salon. Upon entering the restaurant I noticed the space is limited but there is plenty of seating as well as a bar. There was no hostess up front so I saw an open table and decided to sit down so I could view the menu. After about 5 mins in I noticed no one was coming to my table to greet me or take my order so I decided to order at the bar. While waiting for my food no one spoke to me or cracked a smile in my direction, and there were 4 servers standing behind the bar. As a customer I felt really unappreciated. When my food was ready I tipped my server for taking my order then I left. I ordered a burrito which was really good might I add. The burrito comes with 2 sauces: spicy and verde. I was a bit disappointed when I noticed the meal did not come with chips & salsa. I'm not sure if I will go back to compare my experience. read more

Started off with a michelada. Nice and refreshing. Boy had the chicken burrito. Good size, boy is small so he didn't finish. Of course I had to sample. Nice flavor and good selection of innards--rice, beans, etc. I had the tacos al pastor as an app. Thought it was good as well. Nice seasoning, corn tortillas were flavorful and held together well. Standard toppings. Also got the shrimp a la diabla. Man this was good. Thick spicy sauce, mixed well with the rice and a salad. Ample amount of shrimp, 10+ and not overcooked at all. Bonus was the fries, some of the best I have had. So crispy on the outside, good seasoning, nice fluffy inside. Better than Arby's curly fries! Staff was friendly. Lady serving us fluently bilingual so no issues. They have El Yucateco hot sauce in the bottles but also a trio of I'm guessing house made sauces in a holder available. Price certainly ain't cheap but for the quality and quantity, this place is legit. I had no problems with the flavor or salt level. Will definitely be back for the fries and to try more stuff. The Q2/P (quality/quantity to price) ratio gives this 4 solid stars. If the other food is as on point, might need to raise it next time. read more

This is place located in the same lot as Panahar (On Buford Hihway). We went on a Sunday for Lunch. We ordered Chicken Soup, Chicken Fajita, 3 pieces of Taco, Chicken Flautas and for beverages we ordered Michelada. Michelada was nothing special, very standard. Coming to the food, at beginning we ordered 2 pieces of chicken taco, but it was so good, we ended up ordering one more. One chicken taco costs 2$, though it is pricey compared to other similar Mexican places, the quality compensates for it. Tacos come with onion cilantro and grilled jalapenos. They put plenty of meat in the taco too. Great, loved it. Chicken soup was hearty and flavorful, loads chicken and steamed vegetables like potato and carrots. Chicken Fajitas were very standard. But the rice needs special mention. This rice is completely different from the rice you will get at other Mexican Taqueria style places. They fry the rice in butter with vegetables. We ended up asking for extra plate of rice, it was that good. Flautas were also very standard, nothing special. But they served a consume as side to dip the Flautas, that was really nice. I have not come across that before. Our server took great care of us. Very good service. Overall great experience. Surely coming back. read more

I'm currently visiting a series of food places that have been on my bookmark list for a long time, with most of these being on that list for as much as 3-5 years. This one falls on the lower end, and has probably been on there for about 3 years. This place has very authentic Mexican food, and as a whole, it's a solid spot. It's on the smaller side, and only other people in there besides a few of my friends were Hispanic. You do get free chips and salsa, and the chips are on the thicker side, which isn't my favorite (I adore thin and crispy, but that's just me!), but the salsa was soooo good. I kept trying to get myself to stop, but I just... couldn't. Since we were waiting for another person for a little while, we ended up eating all of the chips and we had to expressly request more after being empty for about 5 minutes. There were 4 of us and one chip basket, so it's not like I was munching down on the whole thing myself. I also had request water constantly because it completely emptied out, and the restaurant really only had two other tables, so it wasn't terribly busy. So the service wasn't terribly attentive, but I don't think it was awful, either. THE VERDICT: I ordered 3 tacos, and my meal in total was under $7. The tacos here are good. Cheap, flavorful, and well-seasoned. They came with lime wedges and what I think were slices of radish. Great ratios of meat-to-tortilla, too. So I'd say if you're in the area, it's definitely worth a visit, but I've had comparably good authentic Mexican food closer to me, so I wouldn't make this further trip when I have closer options. read more

And one of the things I miss the most from my country is my family and food, food with that authentic flavor, not tex-mex, not mex-mex, but real mexican street food.... Well this is it, found my little Mexico in the heart of Atlanta! I can't believe nobody has rated this place yet... Yes, it's not a fancy restaurant; however, you will first fall in love with the aroma of warm, delicious authentic mexican street food or "antojitos". Later, you fall in love with the menu, I obviously wanted to order everything there!... Lastly, when your food arrives, it's like.... "Am I in Mexico?" ....
