Only been there a few times for the Taco Tuesday and Thursday Special... and they are Delicioso! There is a simple dining area with a few tables but this business is set up primarily for take out. The menu board is large and easy-to-read. They had a good flow of take out orders when I was there; the small staff busy but friendly. I have read some negative reviews, hopefully just due to the many small businesses that have struggled with staffing and inventory during COVID. Parking close by can be a little difficult at lunch time. read more

Great food! I've always enjoyed the tacos! The person who took our order was great! She wore a mask, while those who prepared the food, took the food to the table and even took some orders were not wearing masks. Most, if not all, food industry professionals are adhering to guidelines for masks wearing which is why I was surprised by this. I would give more stars but this reduced it. I won't be returning until those handling our food take more care about the health and safety of their patrons. My bf & I have gone here twice and have loved it both times. They're quick and pretty decently priced. The chips & salsa were yummy. Hands down the best tacos and amazing catering option. We had taqueria Modesto cater my son's second birthday and it was perfect. Booking the event was easy and the owner was so polite on the phone and explained all the options they had. On the day of the party they arrived early to setup and started cooking right away. Our guest loved everything about them. The food was amazing, but so was their service. They were polite and had conversations with our guest which was so personable and added the perfect touch for catering. We had three meats to choose from, but my favorite has to be their carnitas which gets the perfect amount of crispness on the grill and their rice and beans had me coming back for more servings. Got a burrito at this spot today just to walk over to the salsa bar to pack some salsa to go to see a napkin fully soaked in the salsa. Yummy authentic Mexican food (ironically hard to find in modesto). The price is very affordable and you can easily order for 2 with drinks for under $25. Having been here a few times a lot people come here for lunch or take out. The salsa bar is alright, but last time we came they didn't have the milder avocado green salsa. Instead it was the green salsa caliente leaving this gringo looking for a fire extinguisher. If you're dining inside it is very quaint and plain with about 3-4 large family size tables and then some small 2 seat tables hugging the wall. Ok for a quick pop-in but not for a fancy date. I know, it's Modesto. But if you have to stop and you're looking to throw back tacos, this place isn't a horrible option. It's an average strip mall taqueria and the food was good, the service was friendly and the prices were reasonable. Some things I really liked, somethings not so much. Working in town and from reading what the local Modestonians had to say, me and a co-worker stopped in here for lunch recently on our way back to town. The restaurant was clean and quiet, which was nice because their's some real frickin' weirdo's lurking around out front but they're harmless doing their own thing in their own little world. It just looked like a bunch of weirdos playing a game of charades with themselves. The bus stop out front probably helps promote this so I'm guessing our timing was a bit off and the 62 just hadn't been by to grab these folks yet. Anyhow, I noticed a few people mention that you had to pay for your chips and salsa here and they're priced on the menu board as $1.99. So, I ordered some chips & salsa with my four tacos - Pastor, Asada, Pollo and Lingua. Stupid me, apparently you don't have to pay for chips and salsa here because the folks behind me didn't and they were offered a basket for free. I must of missed the part where he offered them to me for free as well. Or he just didn't want to say anything. Either way, rookie mistake on my part, lesson learned. The tacos were good, the pastor was really damn good. Almost a cross between a pastor and a carnitas, it had those explosive pastor flavors and the crispiness of the carnitas. Nicely done, nicely done. The asada didn't have much character, a little sapless and uninspiring for me. The pollo on the other hand, pretty darn nectarous, and this surprised me because usually I find the asada with more flavor than the pollo at most places when compared to such things like the pastor or asada. The lingua - yes please! Taqueria Modesto is certainly throwing down the lingua folks and it's highly recommended if you like a little tongue on your tongue but in a taqueria kind of way. Moral of my story - It didn't leave me disappointed but it didn't sweep me off my feet. It's respectable food with friendly service and they did an excellent job making us feel like we weren't in Modesto. So, thank you. read more

I have been a regular of here for quite some time, my recent visit was horrible. I ordered over $10 worth of food, and after I placed my order I went over to the salsa bar and asked for some cups. I was told they charge for salsa if its to go. WHAT? I ordered my burrito with no salsa so I can add my favorite from the bar. I said the in house orders get free salsa, why not me. She said because people take too much. I said that was fine, but it would be my last visit since I cant eat it the way I like it. She said sorry and didnt offer any solution. I tried this place out on a whim based on the Yelp reviews. As far as service goes it's a great establishment. The employee was welcoming and gave my family a free order if chips and salsa for free. However I was appalled at the burrito I received. The carne asada was burnt and so was the tortilla. Never had a crispy burrito before. It was so bad my children noticed that the meat was "crispy" and "hard" The salsa at their bar seemed spoiled as well, so overall not a great first impression. Best Mexican food around! I absolutely love this place! The food is always fresh and never greasy like some Mexican places. The guys that work there are great. Always super friendly! The prices are reasonable too. $1 tacos on Tuesday and $2 beers on the weekend. My usual order is the carne asada taco and veggie taco. The meat is very flavorful. My fiancé orders new things every time and is never disappointed. He loves the crispy carnitas, chicken, fish, and shrimp. Other places I've been to, they either put too much beans or too much rice or worse, both! But here, they put the right amount of everything. Went there yesterday for the first time. The atmosphere is quiet and it's a small restaurant but that was besides the point. I ordered the Two Taco Plate with Rice and Beans. If you've read any of my other reviews, you'd know that I'm all about anything wrapped in a tortilla. I was in Modesto on business, staying in the La Quinta in Salida. I was absolutely starving but I was also tired of the fast food joints around the hotel. I found Taqueria Modesto on yelp so I figured I'd make the trek out to go and find this place. It took me a little while to find it since it's not really visible from the main street. When I did find the place I was surprised with $1 taco Tuesdays! Just my luck. The place was pretty packed but I was able to put my order down pretty quickly. Since it was $1 taco Tuesdays I decided to go all out and get 15 tacos. 5 chicken, 5 carnitas, and 5 carne asada. Grabbed some salsa and I was on my way. When I got back to my hotel I was ready to get at these tacos. I'm not really sure what to say about these tacos. They were good, but not amazing. They were just pretty standard tacos. I wasn't that big a fan of the carnitas tacos, I thought they were just a tad too crispy for my liking. The carne asada tacos were alright. The meat didn't really have amazing flavor. The salsa is also kinda weak, didn't really add too much to the equation. All in all, the tacos were alright but the salsa was weak. My boyfriend and I used to live right around the corner from this place and I LOVED their super burritos. After eating one of those suckers -- it was food coma city! The guys that work there are super friendly -- always had a smile on their faces and were so attentive -- even though it's a fast food sit down place -- they always asked if we wanted more soda or chips when they saw how fast we were stuffing our faces. I would highly recommend this place -- it's at the end of a long strip mall, next to GameStop -- it's easy to miss, but definitely worth it once you find it!
