This place has really good food and has pretty fast service. I'm not a huge fan of taquerias but this one is the best in Modesto.

This is an interesting place. We both ordered chili verde super quesadilla's. For 2 drinks and the quesadilla's it was about $20. When they arrived to the table- they were small (for an $8 quesadilla). But the kicker was- there was a sprinkling of shredded cheese- and what was there was not melted. I went up to ask what the heck was up with these quesadilla's. That usually a quesadilla has cheese on it- hence the name "quesa"-dilla. I was told that this was there version. Now is it just me or has this mexican resturaunts customer service gone way down since Donald Trump has been in office? My mother and I went in on a Sunday night and experienced the worst service ever. The hispanic young lady with braces took our order wrong and after we discovered it refuse to replace with what we originally ordered. The food here is almost always excellent. I live very close so I like to order from here so I don't have to travel too far, but the service here almost makes the food not worth it. Every single time I order from here, there is always something that comes out wrong. On top of the continuous errors in my orders, the employee Carla, is soooo rude I can't even believe her manager allows her to continue speaking or interacting with customers! After messing up my order, she proceeded to blame not only me, but my DoorDash driver of her errors. When I called her out on her mistakes she lied over the phone saying "Amelia" was the one I spoke to and messed up. I followed up with the manager, which I might add is very kind, listens well, and has excellent problem solving skills. I let the manager know Carla said Amelia messed up the order and was the one speaking to me rude, he informed me that Amelia works in RIVERBANK! Wow Carla! What a lack of integrity! I hope no one else has to deal with carlas ways. Literally TWO out of THREE orders from here were WRONG. Quite a headache, but other than that the food is pretty good. read more

The food at both locations of Taqueria San Jose has almost always been excellent - some of the best Mexican food I've had anywhere in this state. I am only giving it 3 stars, because almost every time I've been there, almost none of the tables have been bussed, and the place just looks thrashed. We have eaten here for years, weekly if not more often at times, but the last three experiences here have been nothing but frustrating. The food is consistently good but the service and treatment from the two women working the front is inexcusable. The owner should really reconsider their employment! We will not be eating here again. Ok I have been going here for about 12 years now.. Always good. The salsa is excellent (bigger Togo cups you be helpful) and the burritos are excellent. This particular time I was irritated. I don't get off of work till 8:30 pm but was very happy that this place doesn't close till 10. Yay finally get a chance to sit down and visit with my man before he has to leave for his work. Get there right at 9 and was told that they only do togos at this time ... Cool! So I asked if we get the chips and salsa Togo then.. She makes a dirty face (she just put them away) and says yes and gives me 2 containers.. Ya ok. So I ask for more she gives them to me. I ask for aluminum foil to take a couple lemons.. She says "we don't have aluminum foil" I smile and say ok what are you wrapping my burrito then. So she finally hands me the foil. We get home burritos are thrown together.. Me n my gf love Mexican food never been here before so we decided to try it out. Heard some good reviews by u fortunately our first time is and will be our last time here. The only thing I can say about this place that was good FOR ME AND MY LIKING was the grilled chickens flavor. Other than that horrible. The food was cold you can tell it is stored in the fridge all day. My grilled chicken was a little warm. They gave me enough cilantro on my tacos to last me 30 tacos. The tortillas weren't warmed up they were still cold and dry. The rice was room temp wasn't Cold but not warm either. The beans were cold and the cheese wasn't melted obviously. They forgot my second taco and thought I was lying until I had to show my receipt. The shredded chicken was the most nastiest thing I ever ate in my life. Huge chunks of chicken with globs of fat on it no flavor or seasoning at all. Very disappointed with the service the food and everything. The soda was good but that's about It. I have eaten at this establishment before. They make excellent food. However my experience today was rely upsetting. I ordered my food and after 20 minutes I notices that the 3 people behind me had already received their food and left. I decided to ask they lady behind the counter did you serve order #14. She looks back behind the shelf and pulls out my food and apologizes. I order 4 crispy tacos. Apparently my food had been prepared right after I ordered it...but was never given to me. We've been coming to Taqueria San Jose for years and it never dissappoints. The vegetarian burrito is my favorite because of all the yummy cheese and sour cream, and the taco salads are awsome and super filling. Although now and then I do get a stale taco shell, but the times its fresh and crispy...there's nothing better. There service is always great too. They changed their salsa about a year ago and I'm not as fond of the new blend, but the salsa bar is great none the less. this review is about the front counter clerk.i have been a happy custumer for aporox.10 years. most of the help know me and greet me very nice.on 7/17/14. i gave the clerk my order.there were 3 patrons waiting,i waitedthey were all served,as i waited 6 more patron came in and were all served and i am still waiting i asked the clerk why dont i have my order? this was a take out by the way.she looked at me with a dont bother me look.the wheel where the orders are clipped for the cook was empty and the cook went to the back.at this time i told the clerk to cansel my order.she told me that it would not take to long,and she went to the back room.the cook told me that it was not his fault.the clerk did not return to the counter untill i was walking out the door.the other clerk told me that she was sorry for what the other clerk forgot to turn in my order. the cook even expresed how sorry he was .i told my wife about the problem with the clerk and told her that we should look for another place. this is rufus valdez from modesto ca. i would like to hear from someone that handles emp. training.the clerk is the one that wears the dark blue cloth. read more
