After eating the same healthy meals all week, I was really craving some Mexican food. I came here knowing not to expect the best customer service based on other reviews, but I was mainly looking forward to the food anyway. I ordered their mole dish...DELICIOUS!!!! It comes with the option of getting your chicken with or without the bone, which I thought was interesting, as well as the usual: rice, beans and tortillas. This mole was the right amount of sweet and spicy. Loved it so much I came back the following weekend! They do serve chips and salsa but please note, the first serving is free, any refills on chips and salsa are $0.75 each! Not that it's a lot but I definitely did not notice this the first time I came lol. As for their customer service...the waitresses are great! I think it's the hostess people that may need some work, but still not horrible. read more

This is my go to dinner spot when I'm in Salinas. My boyfriend loves both their green and red shrimp enchiladas, and my god parents try new things every time and have loved everything. This spot is authenticly designed. Brick and stucco gives the feel of a cantina in Mexico. There is a bar and pool table room. I came with a group of friends there was plenty of room. The sampler is big with plenty to snack on. Somewhat Not cool that the lady wouldnt take our food order until everyone arrived. Not much in the are you okay department. This place, as you will see if you visit, is next door to Aloha BBQ, a Hawaiian lunch plate place. Being a born and raised Hawaiian from Hawaii in Monterey, DUH I know about this place! But sadly, it sucks, so one day we made the drive from Monterey to Salinas just for a plate lunch. We parked in front of Aloha BBQ and BOTH said screw it, lets try the Mexican next door, the place we've never been to in all the years since Aloha BBQ opened. Huge portions! BF ordered a combo plate and wanted an extra order of sopes but the server encouraged us to wait until we were into our meal a little and decide again because like I mentioned, portions are huge! I ordered the chicken mole. I enjoy a good mole and that is why I am often hesitant to order such a dish, and yes the menu pretty much says on its own...their chicken mole is mole-tastic!!!!!!!!!! LOVE it, a nice half chicken topped with their homemade sauce, mmmm. We went for lunch and the place was quite empty when we got there but tables soon filled up. Lots of booths and large party tables also. Service is friendly and helpful. There are murals on the walls and fake plants everywhere so it made me feel a little dirty just knowing that dust accumulates on fake plants. Sowwy! read more

Yummiest Mexican food in all of Salinas/Monterey. Big portions for a good price. I ordered the chiles rellenos when I went and my sister had the chicken enchiladas, two things we usually don't order at mexican food places because we're scared they'll make them wrong. Not here. I enjoyed the food here. The guacamole was very good. And I liked the fact that they have shredded beef instead of ground beef. I have only been there once while visiting my sister in law, but she has been there many times and says the food and service is consistent and good. I had a combination plate that was very yummy. Oddly, finding good Mexican food in Monterey is hard. I think that too many restaurants stick to old standbys rather than be inventive and keep a sense of authenticity. Taquitos was an accidental find after a day of shopping and mulling around Salinas. The restaurant looks like another strip mall restaurant--however, once inside the decor transports you back to some hacienda in any tourist resort. The waitstaff were attentive and hardworking. The chips and salsa were fresh and full of flavor. We ordered a chicken chimichanga and a tamale and shredded beef taco. Both came quickly and served with great tasting frijoles and rice. I have to say that we were most impressed with the flavorful frijoles. Most of time, in Mexican restaurants, I think the refried beans are purchased at Smart n Final. These, however, were creamy but bursting with flavor and spices. We ate them all up. The shredded beef taco was crispy and with the typical pieces. However, I would have preferred more "wet" ingredients to hold the taco together. With a little salsa, it was great. The tamale was as expected and yummy. Both of us agreed that we would come back to the restaurant because it was worth it. Again, the frijoles were the best. read more

Upon dipping my chip I to the salsa I notice a moth, not a big one, but none the less. It's a Saturday night. The music is thumpin'. People are laughing loudly. There's a party in the other room. The nachos are greasy. The horchata is premade and so is the iced tea. It smells like a public toilet, dank and humid and the air is sticking to me and all I want now is a shower. I'm just meeting a friend. Luckily, I've already eaten for the night. I can't vouch for the food, so this is not the most thorough review. But for what it's worth, I wouldn't come here for any other reason but the beck and call of a friend. We have dined at Taquitos Restaurant in the Sherwood Gardens area quite a few times and have never be disappointed. The food is excellent as well as the service! We recently used their catering service for my daughters wedding. The food again excellent. Sandra (the owner) was there with her crew and made sure all our guest we're served as it was a sit down dinner. Sandra made sure everyone had plenty to eat as well as provided snacks and drinks through the the reception. We feel she made sure we had nothing to worry .... just continue to enjoy our special day . I diffidently recommend Taquitos for their food and professionalism !! read more

I am UTTERLY DISGUSTED and DISAPPOINTED with TAQUITOS MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN SALINAS ON N.MAIN ST! I ordered a couple of caldo de pollo (chicken soups) and 2 other soups and took it to go of course. Only to get home and open up the lid of the container to find a DEAD HORSE FLY in there!! I drove all the way back to talk to the waitress and voice my concern to her but she only found it fitting to refund me only $12.07.! Really??! I paid a total of $48.00 and some change for everything I ordered! I didn't want to stick around and argue because others had just entered the restaurant. This is SO WRONG on so many levels! I will never be ordering from this place again!! The Health department should check into this place!! read more

I really wanted to like this place my parents are frequent customers so they brought my family and I here for dinner. Food is OK you are better off getting Charrito in my opinion. That thing that bothered me the most was how much everyone including the owner lacked in customer service. Our waitress was rude and very short with us. Then came another "waitress" come to find out she is the owner who was just plain rude. As stated the food was just OK I got the red cenchiladas which were a 3/10. I used to come here ever so often and I've noticed that the quality of the food and the staff kept heading downhill. This very last time though, was horrible. The waitress wrote my order down wrong after I even repeated myself to make sure it was right. Then, after a forty minute wait I got my meal, which was all wrong. People are way picky and sensitive when it comes to restaurants, and reviews are sometimes hard to consider because we all have different taste and expectations, so take my review for what it's worth. Whenever I visit Taquitos, I don't expect Valet to park my car, or a red carpet to roll out for me, or even a back rub as I wait for my meal. I just want a friendly smile for my waitor/waitress, and a smile on my face after my meal. I get both every single time. I consider myself an "Horchata snub" as in I'm always on the hunt for the best Horchata around. Taquitos has fantastic Horchata, their quesadillas are exceptional as well, and, according to my close, picky friend, their arroz (rice) is "magnificent. These people are thieves. Go to Villa Azteca in downtown for better food. These people charged me an amout for me to pay and later came back with the amount crossed out and added more. Been here twice. I like the food that they serve. Big portions and pretty authentic to me. But what do I know. Some will probably disagree. Anyways, this place is big! Can hold a big amount of party. They actually have a reservation room which probably can hold up to 16 people in a party. Just have to call ahead of time to reserve it. Food is good, and the chips and salsa are great. Better than Hacienda (Chevy's). They have a bar area to just have drinks and relax. They also have a coin op pool table as well with TV in the room. Place can be packed, I guess there's a lot of fans of this place. So if you are planning to come here with a group of friends, (8 or more) I would suggest call ahead of time. The service is okay. First time I was here, the food took forever, and also bringing the check. We wanted to leave but couldn't, since they didn't bring the check for almost half an hour. They just keep passing by. Also, I didn't like the way they broke up our party. They sat 10 people on one table, and the four was across from us on another table. So that kind of threw the conversation a little. They could at least plan it better. Overall, I would come back to this place again. Maybe at lunch time would be recommended. Dinner not so much since they do get packed and busy. AMAZING!!!!! We come from Long Beach and San Diego California so we know Mexican food. THIS IS THE REAL DEAL. Best Mexican food on the peninsula. The salsa bar is really good, salsa verde is veryyyyy tasty. Their salsas are not outrageously spicy which we enjoy. I have tried to go here a couple times and every time has been a dissappointment. The wait time is always long, even just for someone to acknowledge you at the door. The last time a waiter made eye contact woth me, saw me waiting to sit, and kept me waiting another few minutes. The last time I went, they refused to replace my order after I told them it wasn't what I ordered (I ordered the regular nachos as there are two separate kinds of nachos) and the manager said she would just scrape off the ingredients I didn't want ????
