I first went to Taquiza over a decade ago when it was located at 15th & Collins; at the time, I felt that the tacos were too small and way overpriced, but I liked the blue corn homemade tortillas and the pastor and asado were perfectly cooked. Then, they moved to the Broadmore Hotel, quite possibly the worst hotel on Miami Beach. I stayed there once, only once, and still question why anyone would stay there, much less eat there. Therefore, I never ate at that location. Last week, I read that Taquiza was relocating due to that crappy hotel being torn down for some new overpriced condo hotel. It said that it was moving into its own tortilla factory in the NE 2nd corridor. Since this is near our home, I made a mental note of it. This area has one of the best taco shops in all of Miami, La Santa, so there is some stiff competition. Nonetheless, I convinced my wife to go grab a couple of tacos before heading home. We got there, no one was waiting, so we were able to order immediately. We asked was the most popoular items were and they said the crispy fish tacos and pastor. We decided to order the asado and carnitas along with the esquites. We were told that we should wait outside while they assemble it. We did. It took forever. I decided to go next door for a beer from Off Site/No Seasons while we waited...for over a half an hour. Way, way too long for tacos. When the order came, though, it was packaged extremely nicely. The tacos are small, very small, even for street tacos. My wife is Mexican, so when she says this, then you know they are on the small size. The asado meat was juicy and tender and perfect. The carnitas meat was cooked nicely but had the overpowering (and unnecessary) flavor of cardamom; carnitas should not have this flavor. In addition to the meats, the lovely blue corn tortillas of old were non-existant, replaced with what seemed to be day-old crunchy and curled corn tortillas. These were definitely not fresh, which was extremely weird given the time that it took to make. The onions and cilantro were nicely packaged up for us, even if the onions were a little larger chopped than traditional. The limes were super dry without any juice. Ugh, the misses just kept coming... Finally, the esquites portion was large, perfectly cooked with a little bit of char on most of the kernels. This looked delicious. But, it wasn't. There was no seasoning. No Tajin. No pepper. Not even salt. Just bland kernels. It did have a little cotija cheese, but ever so slightly, not enough to alter the flavor. We had asked for sour cream, but none was included in our take away bag. While we ate the tacos in the car, we made the decision to bring the corn home and add to it lime juice, more cotija, sour cream, Tajin, and salt. It ended up tasting quite nice, but it should have been presented that way when we purchased it. I guess, after this experience trying to help out a local company, I'll wait another decade to try it again. You know sometimes, you just want a place to be great, but it just isn't. For me, I have no clue how this place made it into the MICHELIN Guide; what you see in the Guide is not what you get. If you want good tacos in that neighborhood, go across the street to La Santa. This was my first time trying Taquiza. There was a lot of buzz around their relocation which is walking distance from my job. I tried the Fish taco, Chorizo, and Asado with the blue corn chips and Guacamole. I wish I would have ordered a head since it did take about 20 min to get my food. It's really warm inside and with this summer heat, I was melting. Highlights for me were the corn chips, guacamole and fish taco. I've never had anything like those chips. It's like a cloud chip. Hard to describe but really really good. I would go back just for the chips. Guac was perfect. $4 for a small serving but I feel like that's normal. The fish taco was not oily, perfect crunch and of all the tacos I tried was the most substantial in serving. I do think it could use a little something extra in flavor but I guess that was the salsas for. The mild salsa was actually really spicey for me so be ware. The Asado taco was fine just a small portion for $12. The chorizo was the most flavorful with a layer of melted cheese. I wish they gave a wedge of lime per taco. I only got one. Individual who took my order, greeted me immediately and was order to take my order and had a great attitude. Overall good first impression. It's just pricey for tacos but I understand the quality is better than most. read more

Came here for tacos and overall had a good experience, just a few things to note. The vibe was really nice. We sat outside and it was a beautiful day, which definitely made the experience better. That said, it's not beachfront, and there's construction going on right where the outdoor seating faces. Finding the restaurant was honestly a bit of a mission because we had to go around all of that. We did get seated right away, which was great. From what I could tell, there was only one server handling everything, so she was clearly busy and service was a bit slow. Food wise, it was really good. The carne asada tacos were flavorful and well done, and the guac stood out too. Their chips are house made and thicker than usual, which is different but still good. Overall, I'd come back. The meat was so tender, toppings and salsas homemade and fresh, and double layered tortillas. Then moving on to the margaritas- wow. When they finish the boardwalk/beach walk construction in front of Taquiza, this will be a very easy five star review! I came by with my friend Vancy for part one of Cinco de Mayo. Full disclosure, I walked by here a couple of times before while the full moon party or just catching a tan in this part of the beach, but I've never walked in. Being Cinco de Mayo, we were greeted with three varieties of tequila shots, which were smooth enough to set the mood for the night's imbibing. As far as bites, I enjoyed both their very loaded chicken and al pastor tacos. Served in a blue corn tortilla, the street tacos are full of delicious protein. The pineapple ones have actual piece of pineapple with it sweetly tangy flavor. They were also served with thimble sized salsa that's just "wow" in terms of heat. There may or may not have been another margarita or two involved on occasion of the holiday. We were amongst some of the partygoers who we were given shot glasses. Living on the beach for 3 years, this spot is a hidden gem if you don't know about it. The ambience after a long beach walk brings you relaxation and calmness. Taquiza is nothing short of spectacular when it comes to their authentic blue corn tortillas. Coming from a hospitality family, Tyrese who was on his first day of training made sure our table and every guest interaction with tables around were satisfied and full. Asking about recommendations, he was able to explain the flavor palates provided with tacos and drinks. Though $5 a piece for tacos, seems a little steep this is like a reasonable Miami price considering others are about $8 for one in other places. We tried the crispy fish, al pastor, carnitas and Arrecha tacos. They were spectacular, and the guacamole with totopos thick crispy but fluffy blue corn chips. We even ordered a dozen blue corn tortillas to take home for $9. I think this is amazing price considering their authenticity. We even had their horchata and I loved it bringing me back to my childhood days. Give Taquiza a try, though some reviews here are not 5 star satisfied, I promise you won't be disappointed trying this place out at least one it twice whether you're a tourist or a regular. I came here when it was located on Collins Avenue. I had no idea they moved. I also brought my cat with me so they're definitely pet friendly. I tried their Blue corn squash blossom quesadillas and they were VERY VERY GOOD!!!!! My goodness SUPER TO DIE FOR DELISH! The taste of the cheese was just very unique and tasted like genuine old fashioned aged cheese. As you can see in the picture it also came with delicious dry, crunchy beets. We are from Arizona. My wife, kid, I were excited to try the tacos here. We ordered the queso, which came with blue masa like thicker tortilla chips (menu said yellow corn chips.. no biggie). My kid ordered three carne asada tacos (when receipt came said arrachera) the meat was very chewy and was black. The blue corn tortilla felt like it was pulled straight out of the bag and thrown on the plate cold then topped with the "arrachera". As a Mexican, I was disappointed every time I tried this place out. Michelada has a 1/10 authentic flavor. Tajin replacement is a cinnamon forward bland seasoning with no understanding of the origin. Beans lack the essential flavor. Tacos were either dry or greasy. Service was horrendous. Silent when I went in and the whole room was filled by the trash talking of the staff. Finally got to Taquiza after wanting to try it for so long! Between COVID and the current construction, it's a miracle Taquiza is still in business. I suppose that is a testament to how truly amazing their tacos are! Taquiza sits right on the beach path in North Miami Beach (currently under construction as I mentioned above). Because of the construction, the view of the beach is blocked, so the current ambiance is a bit ehhhh but under normal circumstances it's quite lovely. They sell traditional style street tacos by the single taco, which makes it easy to try a bunch. I ordered the Al Pastor (pork), Barbacoa (beef), Pollo (chicken), and Shrimp. I tried about half of each taco, and would say 3-4 tacos per person would be a good serving size for a meal. In addition to the staple taco flavors, they also have more adventurous options, like Chapolines (toasted grasshoppers!) and Lengua (beef tongue). They do have drinks there as well - the margaritas look fantastic - and I believe they have happy hour specials on the drinks. I got the tacos to go, but they do have tables you can sit down at. You'll order your food and drinks up at the counter, and then once your food is ready they'll bring it out to you. The price per taco ranges from $4.50-$7, and the Mexican beers are only $5. We stopped in on a Friday around 6 and ordered 2 pitchers, which were on happy hour (until 7pm). We got 1 classic and 1 passion fruit. The classic was better in our opinion but as expected, both were heavy on the lime so If you have acid reflux--beware. The Totopas with guac and all the tacos we had were amazing! The food came out super fresh and quickly and the spicy green sauce they serve on the side was flavorful and had a bit of a kick. My absolute favorites were the fried fish taco and the Totopas! AMAZING is an understatement. We has Totopas with queso, bean, guacamole and salsa dip--the guac was my favorite. The Totopas though are amazing on their own. The taste is unlike any other. We had a variety of tacos from mushroom, mahi, brisket, chicken and asada--the mahi then the mushroom were my fav. For drinks we had the mezcal, spicy and sangria pitchers. The spicy was my favorite. The churros and Mexican chocolate were good as well and the bean squash quesadilla was also amazing. Parking is available for a fee. There is outdoor seating. Orders must be placed inside of the restaurant and paid for before distribution. When the order is ready it is brought out to your table as you are provided with a number after you purchase the food/drink. When I walked in I just grabbed a seat and waited, but then saw other people had order numbers so I went inside to order, which caused me to lose my seat. This price is probably due to the fact only the margarita was on happy hour. Happy hour is m-f from 4-7. The chips (totopos) and queso was $13 and to be honest, those chips SUCK. They are super thick and chewy inside. The queso was good though. I completely wasted $10 plus tip on the chips. And yes, I'm still mad about it. The margarita was decent but pre-made...I know I'm annoying but I want a fresh drink. Luckily that actually was on happy hour. The food only took 10 minutes to come out. The asada (steak) taco was great! I'd definitely order that again and I regret not ordering more. I did some digging before coming and it was hard to find out what was on happy hour and basically it's the pre-made drinks. The service was decent given the fact I didn't have an actual server. I would have loved a bar. You have a nice view of a parking lot and palm trees, if you sit outside. There are a couple tables inside, but it seems a little lack luster inside. The blue corn masa is very tasty and they way they make chips out of them is truly unique. Overall, we tried a variety of tacos, elote, chips and we were impressed with the food quality. Everything was so fresh. The restaurant is in a unique spot in Miami Beach, and there is construction going on right now on the street between the property and the beach. There is a parking lot just north of the restaurant/hotel, so there is easy parking, but it can be hard to find if you are not familiar with the area. Definitely go check this place out. read more
