We had the place to ourselves between 5:30-6:30 on a Tuesday night. I think they moved next door recently? We were served delicious, authentic Mexican food by a friendly server. We also had wonderful agua frescas-guava for me and my daughter and my husband got pineapple. I think his was a little bit better. My son-in-law enjoyed what he thinks is the best horchata he has ever had. He and our daughter are regulars here. (We are from a different state). Our kids recommended enchiladas, and 3 of us got. They included enchiladas rojas with beef, enchiladas verde (I got those and he let me try cheese, chicken and beef, since you get 3 per order), and enchiladas mineras, which have potatoes & carrots in them with a red sauce. I had a bite and they are surprisingly good! I think they come with chorizo but my daughter had them without. My husband liked the chile rellenos as well. I "Wish I had remembered I reviewed this place. The standout memory? Expensive drinks. Non-alcoholic options like Agua Fresca are $5-$7. Tried the 'Birria stew,' which turned out to be a few chunks of beef in a broth similar to what you'd get with birria tacos--more like ramen without noodles or beef stew without veggies. Adding rice and beans might justify the $18 price, but it's hard to say. Overall, the food is decent, but $30 for a drink and a small bowl of broth feels steep. We had a wonderful dinner at Tarasco's. The service was so friendly and our waitress helped us with recommendations - pointing us to two great choices. She even had the back of the house bring me a sample of the protein that I ordered to make sure that I liked it. The food was excellent, and the prices were very reasonable. I searched this place up wanting to get a quality smothered burrito experience that was also vegetarian-friendly. This was clearly the right place, with ample vegan variations on the menu (though I got mine vegetarian with a sprinkling of cheese on top). Options were distinctive, and I loaded up. My burrito was quite beautiful, and the sauce elevated the array of plant-based ingredients inside. A chocolate corn drink delivered the promised mix of flavors. I didn't need to add a lentil soup, and while it wasn't fancy, it was hearty and satisfying and lentil soup remains an underutilized food offering in my estimation. It's a cozy little spot of south federal with booths and tables. The food is authentic and made fresh. The service is quick and just right. We had street tacos and a chicken quesadilla on this visit but we have done take out here on previous occasions and the food was delicious. After a long day of being outside, we almost went for takeout. We're so glad we opted for eating at Tarasco's instead! Being from out of state it took a minute for us to find the restaurant, which is set back in the parking lot and next to a dispensary. We were immediately welcomed and given menus. Our questions about leaving out dairy were answered. And though we both ended up ordering the same thing, no regrets! The special, enchiladas con morisqueta, was amazing. A little bit of spice and a lot of food. Our drinks--the James Bond and a limon fresca--were also perfect. The restaurant is fairly small with four booths and a few small tables. Tarasco's is the ABSOLUTE bee's knees! Not only is it quaint and very inviting the customer service is immeasurable! Being a vegan and going out to eat can be rough! Especially finding delicious vegan options along with delicious non vegan eaters. Upon meeting Noe (the restaurant owner) I was informed that the ingredients used were sourced locally AND all made from scratch to avoid processed and GMO sourcing. The vegan Horchata, Elote De Tamal Plate, and Temptation aka fried plantains made my tastebuds do the happy dance! The carnivores with me loved their dishes as well! The customer service was above and beyond. The server was very knowledgeable about every menu inquiry and great with suggesting dishes. The values and integrity of this restaurant is top notch and can be felt everywhere from the food to the service, and even the cleanest restroom I've seen on Federal blvd! Noe and my server (I don't believe I caught his name) did an extraordinary act of providing desserts for my family and I to celebrate my birthday. I now have my absolute favorite vegan Mexican restaurant go to that caters to the nonvegans in my life as well! Being able to experience a meal that didn't sacrifice flavor and appealed to all of the people in my party made Tarasco's all the more impressive. I love good Milanesa, but it's hard to find. This was excellent - I ordered with flour tortillas, and it came with beans, rice, onion slices, tomato slices, avocado slices, and rice. I added sour cream and Tapatio - very, very good. She had the carnitas street tacos and said they were good, 3-4 stars. Kids had the carnitas burritos and ground beef burritos, they both said 3-4 stars, but one noted that they wished there was something other than meat in the burritos (didn't see a kid menu for her). Everything I've ever gotten from here has been delicious and made with very fresh ingredients. So far, I've tried their torta, burrito, and tacos....mostly with beef or chicken. They are batting a thousand. I've only ever gotten takeout, starting back in 2021 during the pandemic, and through just a few weeks ago. Their consistency is a good sign. The inside seating area is pretty small, and a little cozy with tables pretty close together, but not too close. It's easy to miss this place when driving down Federal, because it's tucked back a little bit behind the building next door to it. I had the Sopa Tarasca (bean soup)- my first time having it and pleasantly surprised with the flavor and spice. I also had the tamal oaxaqueño rojo- very delicious. 8 years after my first review of Tarasco's and it still stabs out as the best truly traditional Mexican restaurant in the state. Hands down! After spending the last year in Albuquerque and Santa Fe, this restaurant is on par with the best Mexican restaurants NM has to offer. Tarasco's would kill it in Santa Fe! For the record, I have lived in numerous locations across Mexico for years, and Tarasco's is as good as the best restaurants in Mexico City. If you know REAL Mexican food (from Mexico), THIS is all of that. Truly traditional. Fresh, quality ingredients. And a great vegetarian selection that tastes great! My wife and I stopped by Tarasco's after attending a funeral service. To start, we ordered chips and salsa, and then my wife ordered the Mole Siete with Carnitas, and ordered the Huevos Rancheros. My wife fully enjoyed the mole and found it rich, complex, with the right amount of chocolate and spiciness. My huevos rancheros tasted fresh, spicy, and delicious. The chili was flavorful, bright, and not too mild. It seems meals are cooked from scratch, so there's a bit of a wait, but well worth it.
